[guide] how to check for faulty device - OnePlus 3 Guides, News, & Discussion

Hi everyone ,my Oneplus3 just arrived.I am currently in UK and in a month I return home,in EU.So I wanted to know if my device had any faults so I could ask for replacement.
How to check if your device is good.
Step 1.Disable fingerprint scanner(when in pocket it keeps scanning=battery drain)
Step 2.Charge your phone to 100%.
Step 3.Make a Antutu 3d test.(if your phone gets warmer than 45-50 degrees, you need to replace it)
More later.Suggestions are welcome .

I couldn't find any publicly available information about the max temperatures of snapdragon 820. Temperatures as high as 40-50 or even 60 have previously been considered pretty normal when playing intensive 3d games. I'm curious, what source did you use when writing this guide?

Played for a hour NOVA3 and max temperature was 45 degrees.Older snapdragons had real issues with heat ,SD 820 is balanced.

2 things you might want to look into:
2.5D glass requires extreme precision otherwise the edge of panel will be defected, showing rainbow color
Some users reported that the camera is not centered in certain branches.

I'd firstly check for any screen brightness or color uniformity defect.

You can also access engineering mode and run a list diagnostic tests by opening phone pad and dialing *#808#

Go to cellular Network in settings and OPEN the APN access point network, and change the protocal from ipv4/ipv6 to just ipv4.
Hopefully it will fix it.

Especially bad low signal battery life

My house has terrible reception in general (T-Mobile!), but I've never had a phone drain THIS quickly due to searching for signal.
I've set it to 2G only (I only get EDGE at my house anyway, THANKS OBAMA) and it seems to be helping.
Is the Nexus 5 or Kit Kat in general aggressive with searching for 3G/4G signal in anyone else's experience?
Like I said, other phones haven't had this issue.
Cheers

I have terrible signal too and standby time is horrible. I'll try using faux kernel and report back.
I have same setup as you except my network settings are set to LTE even though there is no lte in my area. Not saying i have great battery life, but it isnt 49% looking for signal.

I have this SAME problem, and the signal on my phone is terrible compared to my last LTE phone.
same problem at work...... I dont know how 1 place can go from lte to 4g to edge all with in a small building with 1 floor. First day while being at school i got 3 hours screentime on lte, today at work i got like 1.5 hours.
27% over 12 hours with one bar seems just fine to me..

Mine reacts different with st att. I get 1 bar of lte in my home when I force lte. If I do auto switch gsm/lte it opts to 3 to 4 bars of hspa, which of course I prefer at home on Wi-Fi.
I've used tmobile for most of my smart phone life and always used tasker to switch to edge when connected to Wi-Fi. Saved a lot of battery. So your experience has been what I normally get.

I have T-mobile as well and my house is in a bad spot. I found that with my note 2 I could use the dialer debug codes to manually set the phone to what ever freq and service I wanted. I found this to greatly help my battery as the modems for T-mo are particularly bad at determining the correct type of service to use and needlessly killing battery.

At least I'm not alone. It's just annoying to have to switch to 2G only when I go home. -.-

Are you guys using wifi while at home? If not then you really should. It generally makes the data modem go into a lower power state if wifi is connected saving battery. Thats how it is on my VZW galaxy nexus.

I do use WiFi at my house.

I have full data bars in my area. If I turn WiFi off and just use data the battery drains significantly faster.
I am new to T-Mobile, I was with Verizon and my house on Verizon barely gets LTE. My galaxy nexus never got LTE but with T-Mobile my Nexus 5 has 3-4 bars of LTE. So I've been using LTE lately and my battery life has been great. I get 5 + hours screen on time with LTE.
Of course Verizon says my area has great 4g service too but anybody who has came to my house either gets 1 bar of LTE or 3g on Verizon. Trying to acquire a signal will of course eat battery though but I will tell you what I am very happy with T-Mobile so far, a lot better then I expected.
I am happy with the battery life and signal strength where I live and travel to.
I noticed this issue today as well... hoping for a solution...

Like I said, manually switching to 2G-only when you're in the affected area removes the problem, but you'll need to switch it back to LTE when you go anywhere with a better connection time. Settings > More > Mobile Networks > Network Mode.
If you're worried about battery life. There's a few things you can do. I found that turning off my "Ok Google" hot word detection increased battery life immensely. Also try turning off Google Now sometimes. I realize that the highlight of this phone more or less was Google Now, but if you don't need it for a certain period of time, turn it off. Doesn't hurt to try.
Try out Faux kernel also. On his test 7 (I think he just put out test 8) I was on track to get 60 hours of standby time. I'll try and dig up the screenshot..hopefully I didn't loose it one of my many wipes..

I had this problem and I sent my phone back and got a new one. The new phone doesn't do it at all just got a day and a half with over 4 hours screen time. I think some of the nexus 5's are a bit dodgy.

Xperia Z upgrade to M4 Aqua?

I wanted to know if any of you have an M4 Aqua or Xperia Z, so i can know if it's a good "upgrade"
My Xperia Z does almost everything I want, but has terrible battery life.
My main problem is that my internet/4g keeps saying I have no connection, even though I do.
I've had issues where I can load say xda developers site, but not any other site. I find it very weird that I can load only on site, but trying to load anything else says I have no connection.
Other times I turn on data and I can't access/load some webpages. It can be the same location, but sometimes I loads and others it doesn't.
Another issue is the "No sim card" error I get from time to time. It looks to have gone away, but not sure.
Xperia M4 Aqua looks good on paper at $200-$250.
Main reason I'm interested is because it's unlocked already and has Band 12 for tmobile!
Screen is 720p, but I can deal with it honestly.
Looks like a cheaper Xperia Z3, which I like.
S4 Pro(Z) vs SD 615(Aqua)
S4 pro likely has raw power, but is SD 615 is likely more efficient.(maybe faster)
Any recommendations for under $250 and preferably have band 12?
So do you think this is a worthwhile upgrade? Any better options?

Search for Xiaomi Mi4i.
I've heard of them, but don't I have to import them?
Since they're not released in the US.
Rather have a phone that I can buy here and has tmobile LTE speeds.
I saw this:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/sony-xp...lack/4346600.p?id=1219734737974&skuId=4346600
Looks decent for 5.5 1080p phone.
Also can get G2 or G3 for that price range.

This can be fixed in 3 ways:
1. Using a custom rom and/or using apps like amplify and greenify
2. Replacing the battery with a new one
3. Replacing your sim card

The first thing you should do here is get a new sim card. sounds like yours is broken or outdated.
You can also try upgrading your baseband to the newest version
Finally a custom rom and/or kernel could clean up the remaining issues.

You should be able to unlock your phone with relative ease and at the very least for cheaper than buying a new one.
Also you can probably unlock band12 with the instructions available elsewhere on the forum, these explain how to open all the bands on the radio.
I can't comment on the M4 itself since i have no idea.
TLDR: Replace your sim card
Like I said the sim issue stopped completely, I just took out the sim and put it back in. No problems.
One thing I can't fix is battery draining 1-2% a minute with screen on using 4g. I always turn off data when not in use, I am trying to save as much battery.
I've had issues with data not working when it's on.
Example, xda sometimes says I have no connection. It's a lie, since another app pulls data fine. The weird issue when no websites load in any browser because no connection, but Facebook/email/YouTube work.
Honestly I just want something that can get through a day of moderate use.
10:30 am to 12:30 pm, 1-2 hour of music,15-30 min. using data screen on. Battery is usually at 70-80% by then in 2 hours of light use.
2:00 pm to 3:00, hour long video,720p. Drains like 15-30% of battery.
Watch 15 ninute YouTube video at 720p,drains like 5-15%.
The screen and data/lte on this are not efficient, which is the main problem for me.

That 4g drain could still be related to your sim card, if its more than 2 years old i would get it replaced.
It sounds to me like you are suffering from the regular mobileactive and/or play services drain.
I suggest you install this rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z/development/rom-official-sony-lollipop-5-1-1-t3196237
And then follow the instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/guide-extreme-battery-life-t3095884
If you dont mind unlocking the bootloader then you can profit even more by using this kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z/orig-development/kernel-zombie-t3126417
Also 4g will not work if sim card isn't the right one

Are you looking to stay within the Sony ecosystem? I would stay away from non-flagship products from Sony, I've heard things about terrible support, 16gb storage that's gimped out the box and prices far higher than equivalent devices from other manufacturers. Perhaps a OnePlus X or something?

Woohoo! This phone is a complete beast!

This phone is an absolute monster. Wouldn't change a thing about it! It's so fast and smooth (coming from tmo s7 edge) battery life has been great for first cycle use (I know my battery isn't a dud lol) and it works great with T-Mobile after changing the APN to regular T-Mobile LTE I'm getting great LTE now and at work my speeds have triple. charges much faster than s7 edge and for being 1080P it's such a good display and knowing it dropped less juice then QHD, big W. Haven't gotten into development much just yet. Or have done any system updates or gaming. Today is that day, was just testing how well battery performed and after unplugging at night 1/18 throughout all day yesterday, had 12% at night. Plugged in this morning have 3 accounts and have used GPS and BT (not all the time). Is there anything you vets can share a few tips and tricks with our OPO? What are your thoughts on this Device?

Hey I have a tip, I just got my 3t the other day and just realized WiFi Calling & VoLTE Calling is OFF by default. You can turn these on in Settings -> SIM & Network settings.
Having those on makes it sound like phone calls are much louder & clearer instead of using a tin can to communicate.

mine was actually defaulted to T-Mobile GPRS (fast.t-mobile..com)
I just got my OP3T yesterday. I unlocked the bootloader, installed TWRP and OOS4.0.2.
I agree though, this phone is INCREDIBLE. It is by far the smoothest phone I have ever used. I also had a Samsung Galaxy S7 (not the edge variant though), and this phone runs laps around the S& (in terms of performance).
I know a lot of user complained about camera quality, and I think the main thing with the main back facing camera is that it's VERY sensitive to movement, so you need to have a steady hand otherwise your pics can come off a little blurry. I'm playing around with different camera apps right now to see how they compare. I will say though that the front facing camera is really great quality and doesn't take distorted or blurry pics at all.
The only thing I would say is if you want, I installed 2 apps to help out with the battery even more. I use LeanDroid and ForceDoze (both on play store)
I also use Nova launcher to help organize my apps (although I have no complaints with the stock OOS launcher)
I use ccleaner from time to time to clean up "crap" from my phone
I also have Blokada on my phone - http://blokada.org/ (prevents advertisements on sites and in apps)
Other than that, everything else is working GREAT! Phone is very responsive.

Serious WIFI Issues

Yet another epic fail on Nokia 8: WIFI keeps failing, disconnecting, or simply sliently not working most of the time. Speedtest shows 0.00 MBps download speed when this occurs, while upload is just fine. Happens at home as well at work. Needless to say that I have plenty of other devices working absolutely fine on the same networks. After flipping airplane mode, returns to normal.
This phone turns out to be a big joke. Nokia should better get their act together quickly.

i strongly suggest u attempt to send in nokia. i am having fast connecting on both wifi and mobile networks. Both on nougat and oreo beta. Sometimes out of the thousands of phones. Hardware or software might be glitched. However it does not represent a consistant pattern or outrage. Compared to a note 8 or S8. Their faults is widely known. To address the grievances, head in and just send in the phone. Let them make it right
No worries here thankfully

Dual SIM does it drain the battery quicker ?

I've just moved from the iPhone 8 plus to the p20 Pro Jesus I am blown away it was a hard decision as I've been a loyal apple fan since the 3g
The pro is quick , no sluggish and now they have fixed the routing issue my banking apps work also
I got a dual SIM off three UK and have my work SIM and my personal SIM in the phone
Does having dual SIM drain the battery quicker ? As I've got two network running at the same time
I love the camera and the screen and phone so think my days are gone with the apple world
Thanks in advance

I love the camera and the screen and phone so think my days are gone with the apple world
Thanks in advance

Hi,
To answer your question. No it should not take up much more or noticeable battery drain during normal use throughout the working day.
The reason to this is that when you use both of the sims you would have manually selected which sim is used for data connectivity which means that the other sim won't connect to its' network for data.
However, yes both sims will be receiving a network signal to maintain normal operation, but won't also be sending or downloading data until you have either manually selected it to do so or if you have received or are receiving a call.
If you have enabled dual data then it may. But that wouldn't be ideal for everyday functionality per se
Hope this helps
Can't say whether the dual sim drains battery quicker however I guess that it would as compared to a single sim phone. Nevertheless, the battery efficiency of this phone is crazy, even with HEAVY use you won't be able to drain the battery in one day; I always go to bed with min 30ish percent left. As we speak I have 35% left and I used the phone too much (mind you, its 01:06am [emoji16])
My girlfriend has the 8 plus and I always have way more battery left than she does at the end of the day.
That aside, even if it drained quicker, the benefit of me not holding/charging two phones every single day, makes the p20 pro a winner.
Tip.. If you use apps like vibe, WhatsApp etc in each sim, the phone has this twin app option for apps which are registered to phone numbers.

Dual SIM doesn't take up anything noticeable compared to single SIM, the difference is neither here nor there.
