Help taking first step to rom my new smartphone - Verizon LG G2

Hello,
I got my G2 two days ago (used), i come from an htc one m7, i use to unstall all kinds of custom roms and recoveries, but scrolling through this forum i can't seem to understand the best way to install TWRP and rom the phone.
WHAT I HAVE :
- verizon LG G2 completely stock non rooted, software verison 3AA
WHAT I WANT :
-install latest TWRP to be able to install custom roms like cm13
WHAT I DON'T UNDERSTAND :
-Some tutorials mention something about flashing bootstacks, others tell me to root then install twrp directly using some app
-i presume that my software version 3AA is greater than 39A, the latest bootstack is made for 39A so will it cause a problem if i flash that bootstacks ?
all explanations will be appreciated

NVM i figured everything out

For this Rom to flash and function properly you need:
An LG Optimus D415 (T-Mobile USA) which has a custom recovery installed.
As far as the boot loader being unlocked.... I never had the LG bootloader to begin with, only fastboot.
The current functioning ROM is FULL stock. You must flash SuperSU before rebooting or you will lose ROOT!
**************INSTRUCTIONS*****************
First download all three files in the next post. they are:
1. ROM Zip (LG/TMO packed by me.)
2. SuperSU update Zip (Mediafire)
3. TWRP.img (shoxxy)
++Ensure you have TWRP installed.++
Then do this:
1. Reboot into TWRP (CWM works too, I reccomend Shoxxys TWRP)
2. Flash ROM
4. Flash SuperSU zip to keep ROOT
5. Factory reset via TWRP
6. Reboot
You're DONE!
It will take several minutes to begin booting, be patient. You MAY see the LG logo for a minimum of 5 minutes, don't freak out!
************************************************** ************************************************** **************************************************
FRIENDLY HEADS UP:
The Stock ROM file is more than 1GB (1.07gb actually) so you'll need to have enough free space on your SDcard.
YES, I reccomend flashing it from the External SD Card.

LollipOptimus™
I have put together a modified version of this ROM. It's the stock OS with many changes..
Debloated and trimmed to where it is as MY daily driver..
It's stable, smooth, and functional. There are many things removed, like the quick memo app and quick remote app, I will not put them back in. You could just trial and error debloat the system on your own, like I did this week..
Anyway, here's the ROM:
https://mega.co.nz/#!B4EEXZxZ!40XcuPjeFMUVcW0TpAOeQwVkuZNNCzs9OtH9V-TJVl4
There will be updates made periodically. It's not fully done yet, IMO.
Make a nandroid before flashing this! Just in case!
Let me know immediately if there are any issues!
I'm so ready for this. I can finally have my camera back.
This is gonna be too good. Thanks for all the legwork so lazy bums like myself can enjoy the goodness.

The Camera works! everything except the baseband for some reason...
I'm going to figure this out.
then provide a link to the ROM and SUPERSU zip to ensure you stay rooted.
I had some problems and the zip I made accidentally flashed the stock boot loader, OH NO!
adb reboot fastboot
then
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
YAY I learned things today!

I used the LG firmware extraction tool.
I've fixed the issued! Uploading SOON!
Currently debloating. I will release debloated with SUPERSU and busybox preinstalled. I'm not going to deodex, I'll leave that to the individual.
This ROM is amazing. LG is really out doing themselves!
As it stands, my ROM is 1.07GB as a zip. I'm timming it down. Hoping to get somewhere nearer to 700mb..
Keep your eye's peeled. It's coming!

I know, that if i will flash twrp on stock lollipop D410 it will be bricked. Are U changing loader to avoid this? Or u create flashable 5.0.2 that working on older loaders?

Nope, none of that.
I will say this, @Quarx has a Lollipop CWM recovery if you're worried about recovery compatibility....
I honestly prefer to use the FLAWLESS TWRP from @shoxxy .........I mean, it's simply the best!
I flashed via TWRP with no problems whatsoever/
I flash the ZIP, then SuperSU.zip, then just to be extra safe I reflashed the TWRP.IMG from recovery.
then I rebooted recovery to ensure TWRP was installed.
then simply rebooted the system...
everything worked great so far.
I just want to test it a few more times and make sure I don't kill anyone elses device. I had a WiFi only phone for a good 7hrs. nobody should have to deal with that.
I bricked this device several times today already, i need to ensure everything is working well before I have someone test.
I currently have a few people in mind to test. if they agree and try it out with no problems, it will be free for the taking!
Should I leave it stock with GApps? or remove all the GApps so users can flash their own..?
I say remove all gapps so we can flash our own.
Might give a little bit of freedom for the users. But I don't really care! I wanna try this out!

no, i mean that you are creating flashable 5.0.2, that will be flashing from recovery on 4.4.2 phone аnd after flashing recovery still properly working? It is?
But the official firmware via LG Support tool reflashes boot, aboot, laf, recovery, system folder etc. Does this mean that your firmware flashes only kernel, folders systems and data, but first levels of loading(like aboot) stay from older 4.4.2?

No, this ROM will flash all those, then just flash SUPERSU and TWRP right behind it. it typically works. Try it out.
I uploaded a BETA, be careful!

[Q] General questions about ROMs and the rooting how-to

Hi, many thanks for the great and detailed how-to. However, I think it may lack some answers to a few important questions that people who come from other phones could ask. Until now, I've been used to rooting and flashing my Galaxy Nexus which appears to be rather different from the methods on this phone. Anyway here goes: I just got my Z3 Compact. I'm willing to give the stock UI a try, especially because it has some very nice features (noise removal on camera, STAMINA mode) and a clean enough look, however I need root and don't want to put up with some of the preinstalled apps. I can then either create my own pre-rooted image or flash a custom, stock-based ROM w/ root such as SLiM. Here are my questions:
Based on the how-to, if I want to install a custom ROM such as SLiM, at which step do I need to flash it? In particular, that ROM requires "root and recovery", does that really mean that I first have to root a stock ROM and install a new pre-rooted ROM + recovery, and only then flash SLiM from recovery, or can I install it during the various stages of the how-to?
I was used to TWRP recovery remaining on my Galaxy Nexus for pretty much all its life. I don't understand: why are there so many different recoveries for the Xperia phones and why do you apparently need to flash them so often? Can't you put one there and never touch it again? Why do they sometimes come with the ROM?
Why do some custom ROMs have requirements to be running a specific version of the firmware to be installed? Can't they just be flashed from recovery? Oh and btw, is there a difference between a ROM and a "firmware" as far as Xperia-specific vocabulary goes?
Putting those questions into words, I realize I may be missing something crucial about these phones that ties recovery, ROM and kernel together in a way I'm not used to. If there is any documentation about how these general concepts work on Sony phones, I'd be happy to read it!
Thanks in advance.
Answering myself, hoping it can be helpful to people who are new to the Z3C and wondering about the same questions:
SLiM is a complete ROM, it only requires "Root and Recovery" to mean that it must be flashed from recovery -- and recovery must be installed from root anyway.
If you want to install SLiM on your first root, you must follow the how-to down to the point where you've downgraded, rooted and installed XZDualRecovery. After that you're good to go, you can wipe everything (or not) and flash SLiM.
There aren't in fact that many recoveries. Basically, the CWM recovery and its derivatives (PhilZ Touch) and TWRP. Both have different UIs and a few different extras in the way they manage backups, but they really serve the same purpose.
And then, there are things like XZDualRecovery, which includes both standard recoveries and allows to choose between them. Why include both? I don't know -- it may be related to CM ROMs needing their own recovery or just user preference --. Anyway, I suppose what makes XZDualRecovery the standard on Z2+ Xperia phones is its ease of install and the fact that it works out of the box.
Now, you need to reflash XZDualRecovery after installing a new ROM. There's a part of it that resides in the system partition and you'll lose it when you flash a new ROM; that's a big difference from what I was used to on the GNex, and many custom ROMs already include the necessary files. Be sure to check that before you flash, though.
I was mistaken, no ROM comes with a "previous ROM" requirement. Some packages (debloat releases such as serajr's for example) require an already present and rooted ROM to be installed, as they don't contain the whole system + data. They are not complete ROMs and must be flashed onto an existing, rooted ROM of the same version.
There is no real difference between ROM and "firmware", the latter is mostly what Sony uses to describe their flashable tool format releases while the former is more often used to describe custom releases. As a consequence, you'll more often see Sony's stock .FTF files described as "firmwares", and custom flashable .zip files as "ROMs".
In the end, here is what I ended up doing yesterday to my new Orange FR Z3C:
Follow the how-to to:
install the PC drivers;
downgrade to 23.0.A.2.93 stock firmware;
root the phone;
install XZDualRecovery;
Download Pandemic's pre-rooted stock 5.1.1 rom (23.4.A.0.546), reboot to recovery and flash it;
Download serajr's debloated, pre-rooted system and flash it;
Download and flash RICDefeat just to be safe;
Download and flash/install the Xposed framework and serajr's Xperia Xposed, although right now I only use it for its ability to load custom icon packs.
Huge thanks to everyone involved in the development of these tools, apps and ROMs.

Custom ROM install

Hi I'm very new to android rooting but after loosing my brand new lg g4 I bought a k3 note to have a play with, I have rooted it using the kingroot app and installed trwp custom recovery with another app my problem is the ROMs I have tried to flash fail? Gapps is fine and installs but the cm 12 ROM from rootjunky fails every time anyone have any ideas? As I said this is my first rooting so I'm probably missing something simple! Thanks for any help
refer this thread on xda forums http://forum.xda-developers.com/k3-note/general/organized-thread-lenovo-k3-note-k50-t3158522
you will get the necessary help there
@Bigbainy Don't install cm12 from rootjunky instead go to index thread by @hackerpower he have every solution and he had made a list of roms plus there are backups by hackerpower too... Or u can to www.needrom.com for latest k3 note roms or there are chinese forums too like bbs.ydss.cn

Root OnePlus 3T running 7.1.1 Android Nougat and Oxygen 4.1.1.

Hello all.,,
I checked and read many thread slowly and steadily ,but couldn't find a good solution to root this phone 3T.
I just bought this Beautiful Device runing so smooth but with Hands tied too hard unable to run many apps and many ads and Bloatwares..
Thought to Root this device ,but all are mostly either Oxygen 3 or Marshmallow or 7.0. Version of ANdroid..and DW Error,is also a major concern to look out..
So Please help me to root this device running O2 4.1.1 (I literally dont want to change the stock,as of now) and Android 7.1.1 ,some simple steps...
Thanks and Regards
Awaiting for replies!!
I'm about to get this phone so I've been doing a lot of research myself. It looks like you can follow the steps in this thread and you can flash supersu through TWRP once you've unlocked the bootloader.
Unlock bootloader.
Flash TWRP.
Flash your preferred root zip in TWRP (SuperSU or Magisk are two good choices, I prefer Magisk).
That's about it...
i too tried the above method,,But I got struck with Logo of TWRP and got enabled only after 6 Hours.. But to my fate,,i'm still running on Stock recovery.. Not on TWRP !!
Use the latest official TWRP (currently 3.1.0-1). Works just fine.
i can relate to your question.
however, i discovered how to root the 3t and flash the usual zips files the finally the freedom rom, on my own.
it was a thrill.
i advise you to just take the blue pill.
I installed Blusparks Version of TWRP ,,but still no use,,SuperSU or Magisk both says My phone is not rooted!!!!
I want to live the Stock ROM and just to root the device,,But the steps are not futile for me!
What I would do if i was you.
Unlock bootloader
Flash TWRP
Flash latest Magisk 13.2 zip
Hey,
Is this method still valid for rooting the 3T?
https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/...wrp-root-nandroid-efs-backup-and-more.475142/
Yes, that is still valid, more or less. Might be a more current version of blue_spark's TWRP (official TWRP is on 3.1.1.2) although the link only says 3.1.1-x, so I don't know what that means. But probably won't make a huge difference.
Can't see what version Magisk is linked (my office network is blocking the link). If you choose Magisk, flash latest version 13.3, especially if you want to hide root (from Snapchat, banking apps, etc.). Older versions of Magisk will fail to hide, due to recent changes Google made to SafetyNet.
And what if we want to flash this beta to a brand new device?
http://downloads.oneplus.net/oneplus-3t/oneplus_3t_oxygenos_openbeta_12/
Should we first unlock the device, then install the TWRP recovery, then flash this beta rom and then root?

Got new One+ 3T Some questions

I have received today my new mobile 1+ 3t a3010
oxygen 4.1.3
where should i start ?
tweaking kernel, roms...
please refer me to the right threads
thanks in advance.
- Unlock bootloader first: https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/...wrp-root-nandroid-efs-backup-and-more.448149/
- Flash OOS 4.1.5 or the newest Openbeta (or Freedom OS if you understand what you do)
- if you need root: flash supersu or magisk
- if you want: Flash Kernel (ElementalX, Franco, Blu, Flash, etc)
- very optional: https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3/how-to/advanced-interactive-governor-tweaks-t3476589
How one decides to mod the phone (custom ROMs, kernels, etc.) is completely up to personal preferences and tastes. Everyone will give you a different answer to your questions, and many owners of this phone will never mod it at all, and be completely happy. Read up on existing threads, and you'll figure out what are the best options for you. There are also plenty of existing threads with suggestions and favorites regarding ROMs, etc. so no need to start another such discussion.
So really, my advice on where to start, is to read read read. Understand the methods and steps before you begin (and that goes with any of these devices). The previous answer had some good resources, for a start. And you'll find many more useful threads in the "Guides" forum section. My additional suggestion would be to know how to return to stock with the full zips: https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3t/how-to/rom-oxygenos-3-5-4-mm-ota-update-t3519074
Along similar lines (and in agreement with the prevous answer) I would recommend updating to latest OOS 4.1.5 or Open Beta, to ensure you are on the latest firmware and modem, before doing other mods.
Thank you both for great answers,
i did successfully bootloader unlocked and twrp flashed
Now which is oos 4.1.5 you talking about ?
like https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3t/how-to/rom-oxygenos-3-5-4-mm-ota-update-t3519074
and this https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3t/how-to/rom-oxygenos-3-5-4-mm-ota-update-t3519074
is ok to flash now ?
You posted the same thread twice. But yes, that is correct. You'll want the full zip from Post #2 of that thread. Then follow the instructions in Post #3, using second method, for users with TWRP. It also says for root users, but it's irrelevant whether you are rooted or not, as long as you have TWRP installed you'll need to use the full zip; as stated at the bottom of Post #3, if you use the OTA with TWRP, it will fail or you will soft brick!
Also, if you root, TWRP will stick (this is what I always do after flashing the updates). If you choose not to root after installing 4.1.5, you might find that TWRP is removed. But you might be able to avoid this by booting back to TWRP after installing 4.1.5, butbefore rebooting to OS. Otherwise, if you find TWRP is gone, just flash again using fastboot.
Tell me please,
can i flash custom kernel being on stock 3.1.5 with stock recovery?
Just stick with stock. LineageOS is kind of awful. Theres a million bugs that affect daily usage even on a perfect install and setup. Its just not worth it. I'd go with freedomOS CE 2.10. Very solid rom with nice extra options to remove useless google apps like photos and google music youtube and the like. It even allows magisk which is a fantastic rooting systemless method. I would also add the adblocked youtube module or app from a thread by Master_T. Just stick with basic rooting function and your experience will be superb. The more advanced you go with this phone the more prone to breaking something you get.
You were already advised how to mod the phone, back up in Post #2 above. I assume you mean locked bootloader along with stock recovery. I believe what you suggest won't work, and the stock recovery will not let you flash an unsigned zip. You need to unlock your bootloader and flash custom recovery TWRP. Then you can flash a custom kernel. But again, it's already been described by another back up on Post #2.
Also, I'm pretty sure you mean 4.1.5 (not 3.1.5), as you already stated the phone came with 4.1.3 (so 3.1.5 wouldn't make much sense). So please proofread before posting, to avoid confusion (and I was really confused by the number 3.1.5 at first).
