Most apps open in less than half a second. Intensive ones like games (clash of clans) are just shy of the one second mark, if that slow, when cleared from ram.
Most apps open as fast or faster than any phone, but I have experienced 2 apps that sometimes have a significant delay. Not every time, but sometimes. These are lastpass and network signal info. Only happened a couple times, so if they work well from now on I may upgrade from a 4 to a 5 star rating.

^ Yep, app opening speed is impressively good, better than you would expect to say the least.
There was never an encounter in which I had to wait, have enough time to even notice it, while I was launching an app other than a game.

I don't know which part to post this but the X240K I've used has terrible app install speed.
My other phone (another brand) installs an app in just a few seconds while the LG K8 (2017) I have installs an app for minutes. Facebook install takes more than just 5 minutes. The phone is so terrible with installing app updates too.

Again laggy and not snappy.
Not much to say except that launching apps is pretty slow. I's bearable sometimes, but there are moments when it can be pretty bad. It may be a tiny bit better with 8.1, but that might also be placebo.
