Zuk Z1 in India - Zuk Z1 General

I'm thinking to buy this phone but really confused ....can anyone write a small review of it and how is the development community

Typing this answer from my ZUK Z1 that I have been using since the last 3 months. Before using this phone, I used the MI3 for little over one year after which the motherboard got faulty and it would have costed a bomb to replace it, so thought of buying a new phone instead. I reviewed a lot of phones for one month before zeroing in on the Z1. He is a small review of the device.
Build*- The build quality of the phone is great. I am using the space grey model which has a matte finish at the back. The back has a subtle curve which helps to have a firm grip on the phone. However, I feel you'd still need a back cover as the phone is slim and could slip off from your hand easily.
Chipset*- Coming to the chipset, the Z1 uses a nearly 2.5 yrs old Snapdragon 801 which was a major factor for me choosing this device. I had used the 800 with my MI3 and the performance was phenomenal. Not even once in my year long heavy usage have I faced a single instance of lag or stutter and no matter what I threw at it, it simply knocked it out of the park. So I was looking for a phone that would have the 800 or a similar processor. The 801 is a flagship 32 bit chipset but can chew up any new low end 64 bit chipset like the 410 or 615 easily. The performance on the Z1 is overall smooth with occasional stutters. I still think the 800 was slightly better in terms of performance but there are many things to consider here, so I'd rank the 801 along the same lines as 800. In fact, the 801 excels in some areas which I will get to shortly. So performance wise, Z1 is top notch.
UI*- The Z1 runs on Cyanogen 12 based on Android 5.1 (lollipop). The OS is highly customizable and gives you a stock android experience. There is no bloatware on the OS. The COS 13 was supposed to be released for ZUK Z1 but it hasn't been released yet (not sure if it ever will be). However the CyanogenMod 13 based on Android 6 is available for the Z1.
Display*- The Z1 has a 5.5 inch full HD IPS LCD panel. Even though it's not as sharp and vivid as an AMOLED screen, but it is quite good. The colors are vibrant and the viewing angles are also good.
RAM and Storage*- The Z1 comes with 3 GB of RAM and 64 GB internal of which around 58 GB is available to the user. OTG is supported.
Camera*- 13 MP rear and 8 MP front shooters. It has Optical Image Stabilization and the images come out to be pretty good in outdoors and even under artificial lightning.
Heating*- Heating is a big concern for smartphone users these days. Surprisingly, the Z1 has minimal heating when compared to its peers, like the Moto G4 plus, which can heat upto 46C and above with extensive usage (20-30 mins). However, with the Z1, even with over an hour of gaming, I haven't noticed any significant heating issues. The MI3 used to heat more than the Z1 and this is where I think the 801 wins over the 800. Also with calls of over 20 mins, I haven't noticed any heating at all. However, be forewarned that many users have reported abnormal heating with their Z1 devices, so I guess that I just got lucky here.
Gaming*- Played Mortal Kombat X and Dead Trigger 2 and faced little to no lag at all. With MK X, I faced very little stutter at times, but most people won't even notice it. Overall, gaming is very smooth on the Z1. Even heavy games like Asphalt 8 and Nova 3 will run smooth.
Call Quality*- Very good. Haven't faced any issues with call quality, however the reception over 4G in my area is not so strong.
Battery*- 4100 mAh battery, which would easily last for 1.5 to even 2 days with moderate usage. Charging time takes around 2 hrs.
Some things that the Z1 lacks:
1. NFC
2. IR blaster.
3. Box doesn't come with earphones.
4. Front flash
Overall, I feel that the Z1 is a good device that you can buy within a budget of 15K rupees.

How does the development scenario feel like to you? There aren't a lot of ROMs currently. What's the possibility of this getting Nougat (via CM14)?
Also, what would you recommend? This or the SD 650 powered Redmi Note 3?

Hands-On: Galaxy Tab S 8.4 vs Z3 Tablet Compact

I have to decide between these two tables and I’m struggling. Sometimes it helps to verbalize my thoughts so I’m making a post. My goal is to hear your opinions and share my views on these two tablets, which are both great devices in different ways. I bought the Tab S 8.4 two weeks ago and received the Z3 tablet last week. I’ve had some time to play with both and I’ve come up with my personal list of pros and cons.
Tab S 8.4 (T700)
Pros:
Price - $360CAD = $400CAD taxes in
Display – higher res and OLED saturation, also slightly larger
Dev Community is active
Appearance – I really like the titanium/bronze color combo, it looks like a professional device
Cons:
Battery Life – Typical use I was getting ~5hrs of SOT with mixed gaming/clashing/browsing [Improvable w/ root]
Touchwiz bloat [Fixable’ish w/ root]
Performance – I’m listing this on-top of the Touchwiz lag because I’m not convinced the processor is enough to push the pixels under high demand. I was playing Hearthstone and the loading times were noticeably longer than on the Z3.
Physical buttons – After years of using android devices with on-screen buttons it’s hard for me to revert to using the hardware button on the Samsung. Even more confusing switching to landscape mode and having to use the hardware button on the right. [Fixable w/ root]
Neutral:
IR Blaster is nice to have
Fingerprint reader is nice, but I found it very finnnicky. Plus I will generally not lock this device because it’s being used at home 90% of the time.
Z3 Compact Tablet (SGP612)
Pros:
Battery Life – consistently getting 8+hrs of SOT with the same usage
Handling – the lighter weight and slightly smaller size make the tablet easier to handle
Software – Sony’s android software is close to stock and runs fast. Plus their built-in features (ex. Stamina mode, doubletap to wake) work very well
Remoteplay – PS4 controller / console connectivity is cool.
Design – nice industrial design overall, solid build quality.
Cons:
Price - $520CAD = $600CAD all-in. This tablet is 50% more expensive (inc. 32gb on-board vs 16gb on the Samsung) in my case.
Developer community – very small XDA community for this device right now.
Color – only the white version is sold in Canada and I’m not keen on all-white devices. The Tab S is much more appealing IMO.
Neutral:
Waterproof – I have no interest in testing this.
Display – smaller and lower res, but still a very good screen. Not a deciding factor IMO.
Integration w/ Sony Phones – I saw one review saying this was awesome but I don’t see much value. You can set the tablet up so it connects to your xperia phone using NFC and then you can use the phones mobile signal for data and also get calls/texts routed to the tablet. I won’t get much value out of this feature. Plus, I couldn’t get the NFC handshake to work (Z3TC on 4.4 stock, Z3C on 5.0 rooted).
tl;dr: I think I’ll return the Sony and stick with the Tab S. Price is the main deciding factor. I also think the Tab S is more visually appealing which is important to me. Rooting & customizing the Tab S should fix a lot of what I dislike about it and I like the active community here. I wish I could justify the price of the Z3 but the incremental performance and battery life just aren’t compelling enough. My typical use-case is playing games/browsing on the couch or hotel room. The Tab S is capable enough to play the games I want (Hearthstone, Clash of Clans) and the battery life is enough to last an evening at home or a domestic flight. I've realized that battery longevity on a tablet is way less important to me than on a phone.
Just a note

Appearance also preference.
Would be interesting to know if the cons about lag are less with lollipop.

I think there is definitely less lag with lollipop, almost non existent
Physical buttons can be huge advantage on a device with 16:10 screen ratio, especially below 8.5 inches. On screen buttons in a landscape mode take some space, which makes i.e. browsing web in a landscape very unpleasant. In recent days Xperia Z tablet had those buttons merged with status bar, so it was one black bar less than todays software. Think about it.
About display: Tab S of mine has a little brownish whites (even in comparision to other Tab S) which I hate. I guess Im not a Amoled fan, would rather have a IPS LCD on this tablet. And It is Pentile, so when you once notice it, it will never be unnoticed Colors are great, but its not perfect yet.
About software: I think that Xperia's software is more elegant, neat, clean and fluid than touch wiz. But it is only my opinion.
Would I change my Tab S for Z3 tablet compact? Definitely not, beacause that 8 inch screen with on-screen-buttons is simply too small. But I would change for Xperia Z4 tablet, Nexus 9 or Z2 tablet without hesitation.

I'm curious too. Now that I'm planning to meet the Tab I may also try flash some l
KK Roms to see how a tuned ROM performs.

The biggest thing for new is that these physical buttons are backwards! Multi task should be on the right and the back button on the left, just like the nav bar on my other devices. My brain feels dumb when I keep smashing the recent apps key on the Tab while trying to navigate back

I prefer on tab s 8.4
+best screen ppi tablet
+can call
+ average camera for tablet,
+ hancom office include ( best for bussines))
i'm really trying to wrap my head around their differences ,
by now, the price became comparable, in some cases the z3 is even cheaper than the tab S,
but the samsung has a bigger screen for roughly the same form factor, therefore it would be the obvious choice (apart for the portrait physical buttons that i also don't see the point of )
but testimonials and some reviews, like this one here, mention some battery life issues , i wonder if it's all bloatware's fault, or if the tab really does have inferior battery life , as i've seen some reviews claiming otherwise ,
for travel usage battery life and weight are the most important criterias to me and the reviews just confuse me further , so does the samsung beat the sony after software updates?
the Z3 also have the advantages of waterproofing (you never know when you're gonna need it.. ), front-facing speakers, magnetic charger and some cooler softwares coming with it (EQ, screen calibration, a decent video player, and of course, the stamina mode !) and it's a tiny bit lighter too so it's definitely a tough choice

Sony has backed off on their claims of what the waterproofing can do.. So that's not even a failure anymore since they won't back it up.

i don't think "failure" is the term there
but i've seen their statement, to me it sounds more like a fool-proofing disclaimer, discouraging the prolongated and reckless use of the tablet underwater; it still has the IP65 and 68 rating, but since it relies on flaps, it's more "water resistant" than "waterproof"...
so that's still a plus, even if it's a smaller plus than expected maybe, you can still have the tablet survive weather and accidents contrary to those who have no ip68 rating at all
of course it should not be the deciding factor when chosing the tablet though...
personally i'm finally ordering the sony, because of the samsung's battery life and performance issues that seem kind of consistent among reviews , and even more so by this guy:
youtube.com/watch?v=CMKonSEd7zc
who had a tab S for months, but then bought a Z3TC out of frustration with the samsung..
Guys, I have owned a Tab S T-705 for almost a year now, and I can guarantee that this tablet has no battery-life nor performance issues. My Tab S battery lasts over two days on average, and with the proper ROM everything is very smooth. Just install any Lollipop custom ROM (I am on PowerRom), flash Xposed from arter97 ' thread, and convert to the new F2FS file system.
I know, it takes a bit of reading and hacking, but it is definitely worth the effort.
I am also happier with tab s 10.4 than with tablet z2 which had a lot of problems and i almost threw it on the floor and break it...sony sucks...never again sony neither tablet neither phone...they have to step up with the quality control (my brothers z3 has bad screen, my mothers z3c has also a lot of problems...no thanks...i admit battery life was better on tablet z2 and games were runing better due to the pixel density but everything else was frustrating (display problems, touch problems, sqeaking tablet,...) browsing with chrome is better with tab s it was laggier with the tablet z2 the system was not laggy on neither one...

Coming from a Tab 7.7 (P6800), the battery life of the T700 is definitely awful. The battery lasts 1-2 days with light usage, while the 7.7 would go on for over a week with the same usage pattern. My experience with Sony phones say that the Z3C tablet should last much longer than this T700.
I have them both here side by side. My experience with both devices are more or less similar. Here is my personal list:
T700: Better display, it feels more solid, I like the speakers more eventhough they are located at the sides, more usable display area due to the capacitive buttons and the slightly bigger screen, the design is ugly, battery life is significanlty worse, performance is inferior but enough for me.
Z3 Tablet Compact (32GB): Nice design, doesn't feel as solid, slightly lighter, double tap to wake, better performance and battery life, faster software updates eventhough the 32GB version is still at 5.0.2. while the 16GB version already got 5.1.1. and can be updated manually to 6.0 beta from sony's homepage.
Verdict: Beeing waterproof is no deciding factor for me, nor are the front facing speakers. My Z3 Tablet Compact has a weird feel to it: when you touch the touchscreen it sounds hollow. Hence the T700 feels more solid. Pricewise the T700 is 50€ cheaper here in Germany (compared to the 16GB version of the Z3 Tablet Compact). I bought a used T700 for 200€ including a book cover and a 64GB SDXC card, so the T700 was quite a steal. A used 32GB Z3 Tablet Compact still runs you 300€. It really comes down to what you want and how much you are willing to pay. If the price is not an issue, then it would be an even harder decision because every device has it's pros and cons. In my particular case, I will keep the T700 since it was so cheap. If performance and battery life are you main criteria, then go for the Z3 Tablet Compact. The cons I've listed are noticeable mostly when you compare the device. The device itself is great! To make the decision even harder, what about the Zenpad S 8.0 CA? It has 64GB storage, 4GB of RAM, a Z3580 and an ok screen. It costs the same as the 16GB Sony here in Germany and has optional pen input.

[Q] G3 vs Z3C? Opinions

Hey there, I'm planning to give back my g3 to amazon spend 20€ more and get the z3c...
I know this is the z3c forum so I will get more positive reviews about it.
Some extra info: I keep using my nexus 7 2013 for reading and video, with the G3 I didn't use the nexus 7 2013 at all these days so if I keep the G3 I think I will sell the tablet.
G3 foto gets really good with XCam from xdabebb although you can't modify so many values as the z3c manual mode 20 megapixel...
Battery: G3 can give me 5 hours SOT MAX in a day of use, if I forget to charge it It wont get through the second day.
The best thing I like about the LG G3 are the thin bezels and the fact of a 5.5 inch into so small sizes + the screen for multimedia purposes can substitute tablet use.
The worst thing about the LG G3 is the size for 1 hand is nearly impossible and dangerous (phone can easily fall), and the battery + the camera is only good with xdabbeb camera XCam and now with lollipop LG has removed many functionalities about the hardware of the camara that can be accesed
Sorry for the long post
TL.DR: Why should I get Z3 Compact over G3, provide some links in your answers (even I've searched in google quite a lot and not many people compare these 2 due to different screen sizes)
I come from the LG G2 (1 year) -> Amazon Firephone (3 months)-> z3 compact (3 months so far) . However I help my friend to buy a LG G3 and use if for a couple of days. Technically, the LG G3 is mostly identical to the LG G2 (slightly bigger in screen and size, same camera, battery capacity, design and internals (S801 is just an overclocked s800)) However, when the G2 has very good battery life, the G3 is just average. G3 has better camera focus time thanks to laser sensor, but the image quality is mostly the same (they uses the same Sony sensor) The reason I switch to the Z3 compact is G3 is mostly the same as G2 and I need to upgrade my smartphone, as my father love to use the G2, and he's still using. And I advise 4 of my friends to buy sony devices. Our group now have 1 z3, 4 z3 compacts.
The reason for buying z3 compact is:
+ water proof: trust me, my s4 died for just drop into the water for 3 seconds. This z3c has several times accidentally into the water and she lives well. Plus one time listening to music under the heavy rain for more than 1 hour.
+ battery: The best battery life device for more than 10 smartphones I've used in my life. My habit is charge the phone over-night and I have to plug it in normally at 40-50%, 30% on the intensive day and even 70% on the easy one.
+ speakers: It has 2 stereo speakers towards your ears. Most of the other smartphone including LG and has speaker grill at the bottom (one ear in landscape mode) or in the back ?? after using phones with front-facing speakers, you will never go back. And my daddy love my mother's Moto G 2014 just because of those speakers haha.
The reason to not buy the z3 compact is:
-screen size: Depends. Yeah it's very efficiently designed since it has 4.6 inches screen and much smaller than the 4.7 inches galaxy alpha and Iphone 6. However, 4.6 can be considered too small for some. You can buy the z3 in this case, keep in mind that the bigger Z3 doesn't have the as good screen-size ratio as the z3 compact
-camera: IMX 220 is the very good camera (proven in other devices. However, I don't know why Sony can introduce the very bad camera software. It's hard to use, it's complicated, it re-focus when you hit the button even when you already focused just before. Plus, the camera software stays the same without any major updates for nearly 2 years since the z1 and z1 compact. It's a joke when Sony keeps updating theirs other apps like Walkman (now music), Gallery, launcher, themes, major android updates. And don't get me wrong, z3c camera is really good, it just cannot cope with the potential of the sensor itself, and ironically they are the maker of the sensor ha ha. And please not to forget the 2MP front facing camera is just average (with f 2.8 and bad quality) if you are the selfie person.
In conclusion, I'm very satisfied with the z3 compact and will stick with it for a long time.

Hello thanks for your post it was very usefull for me, I also owned the G2 for a while and I must say, from what I remember, the camera noise is much lower in the G3 under low light conditions. The main reason I want to get the z3c is due to the camera (in manual mode you can get impressive pictures & auto mode is improving from what I've read) and the battery. The biggest con I see with the z3c is non-removable battery. When the battery life ends it will mean you have to throw it away or take it to the service center and pay a big amount of money to get a new one.
EDIT: Damn, didn't read you already have a G3, curse my lack of reading skills.
I don't know much about the Z3C as I haven't had much contact with it besides playing with it at some store, but I suppose I can tell you a little bit about my G3
Pros:
+Screen size and resolution - it's just perfect for watching vids, playing games and browsing stuff in your bed. Everything you see is incredibly sharp due to the horrendous resolution. I can definetely say there is a difference between my dad's Z1 (it's FullHD, while Z3C is just HD so the difference is even bigger) and my G3 in terms of clarity of the display. You can literally read ant's-****-sized text.
+Camera - it produces really nice shots, in good surroundings it can give birth to magnificent images you will be proud of. And having the laser focus makes you feel like a James Bond... sometimes
+Performance - yes, the QHD sometimes makes the CPU a bit sweaty, but overall there is little to be desired. You may be disappointed if you expect your phone to switch to landscape mode in a blink, but for a simple user it is absolutely ok.
+Pretty and slim design - not as flamboyant as your favourite drag queen, but I really like the way it looks. Altough it is more like a matter of taste.
+Physical buttons placement - it may seem weird at first, but you will like it.
+Durability - I squeezed it many times in my pocket by sitting or kneeling abruptly, yet nothing happened and after six months my device still looks great. Also, the screen is really scratch resistant, there is no need to purchase any screen protector.
+Great standby time - it will live a looooooong life if you just leave it idle.
+Mod-friendly - easy to root, easy to flash, you can restore it no problem if you screw something up (no fear of permanently damaging the camera like in Z3C's case)
+Removable battery - you will love it if your phone gets stuck for some reason. Just pull the battery and all the bad dreams are gone!
Not-pros:
-Overheating - yep, sometimes it gets hotter than girls in your browser history. Hovewer, it occurs only if you push the phone to the limit.
-Need of tinkering - I mean, LG screwed up the software a little bit so you may want to get rid of some of the annoyances like screen oversharpening (it was so annoying that I've decided to root the device just to repair this one goddamn thing, I couldn't stand my mom's face oversharpened), heating, battery life, etc.
-Battery life - not as good as Z3C's, expect it to have 4-5h SOT and be battery hungry at the end of the day if you use it a lot. There are no perks like Stamina mode, though it can be dealt with through rooting or simply buying a bigger battery.
-Plastic - it doesn't feel as premium as the Z3, it emits some creaky sounds if squeezed, the back of the phone can get scratched if you place it on a harsh surface.
-Dimmed screen - not useless in a direct sunlight, but you will have a hard time reading the text on it.
-Not waterproof - unfortunately it's not as resilient as your ex-friend's head, you shouldn't try to flush it down the toilet.
-No stereo speakers - not like it is really needed on a mobile phone imo, but still.
So the way I see it... if you like small screens, perfect performance, topnotch battery life and water resistance, go for Z3C. But if these things aren't that crucial for you, then you won't be disappointed with LG's flagship child... oh wait, isn't G4 out already? Too lazy to check it, but this can only result in one thing - price drop.

Thanks for your opinion, I've been using the G3 for 1 week or so and I got exactly that, 4-5 hours SOT and at the end of the day you had to charge it. The worse part of the G3 in my opinion it is that it was too big and this made even worse the fragile/slipery feeling.
The camera are great in both smartphones, but just today I saw one which was even more amazing, the Microsoft Lumia 640 XL. I had it a while and besides 5.7 inch it felt very solid and comfortable. Now I'm between going full retard and buy the 640 XL for 200€ or the z3 compact for 350€. Both are the best in battery performance and camera (although 640XL goes a bit higher on both due to wp). But z3 compact being so smal and so good camera and battery...

Maybe it's just me and my sticky hands, but I haven't had any problems holding it. Never experienced any OMG-GONNA-DROP-IT scenarios (just being overly careful after shattering my last Samsung...). Moreover, I heard that the Z3C is more prone to being dropped due to the glass on the back... yet I'm not sure, the one I played with had some anti-theft gizmos attached to its back, so I couldn't compare :d.

Yea, Lumias are great photo-taking devices, but you would have to settle for Windows Phone, which is... well, let's say that not everybody likes it. But it's your call, as an Android fanboy I would, of course, choose the Xperia, even though it's photo capabilities may be a bit behind Lumias.

Which device are you coming from? Share your experience!

So I'm still waiting for my ZUK to arrive! It's taking forever!
I bought from AliExpress and shipped via regular post.
I currently have the note 4 so as you can guess, it may not be a very wise switch. But I was very impressed with the phone and ordered it as a birthday gift to myself!
I will be comparing them thoroughly!
So which device are you coming from? Share your experience and feel free to compare them pointing out in what areas you feel it's an upgrade and where it's a downgrade!
I am comming from an iphone 4S and I am not sure if I shall keep the device or send it back. Compared to the iphone 4s the screen and performance of the Z1 are magnificient. The camera is a little bit worse, but this does not bother me.
But what bothers me is the general network and talk quality. At my place the device is constantly switching across three different cell ids (once lte, once 3g, once edge). When I hold it on top on the upper side in my hand it looses network connectivity completely (similar to the death grip on the iphone 4). During calls there is always some noise behind - the person I am talking with reports noise and I am hearing noise when the person is talking to me (also after the latest updates). Unfortunately in the usual reviews there is nothing mentioned about this ...
What do others think - are you happy with the network and talk quality?

Well i have an Xiaomi Mi4 too, which is also a great devices and it supports inbuilt root on the developer roms without the need to patch something.
I would have prolly stayed with it to be fair, but it had a hardware defect so i bought something that is available in europe without importing.
I have to say i like the ZUK Z1 with the dual sim and big battery as i travel a lot it´s a great advantage for me.
Let´s just hope Cyanogen fixes all the little bugs and problems and gives us inbuilt root too, then it would be near perfect.
I also have an iphone 4S, but it´s too old and too small and a samsung galaxy s4 mini which is far too slow which a far too little battery and screen size.
For me a big battery is king, the Mi4 also have a 3000 mha battery but the ZUK even tops them.
But theres one thing i have to say, i miss some cool featurs CMIUI the xiaomi android fork has!
1) root inbuilt with permission managment, no need for supersu.
2) battery saver with different profiles and ram freeing etc.
3) edgetap for wakeup
4) a superb camera with a great camera stock app
5) File based OTA updates, even after installing Xposed etc and modding the system you can still just OTA upgrade
6) WEEKLY! Developer rom OTA upgrade
I come from Asus Zenfone 2 4GB, which is worst for:
- too much battery drain (maybe because android os in still 5.0), so I had to recharge before evening
- poor display (the sensor simply doesn't work)
while it has NFC and LTE band 20 (800).
I had Huawei Mate 7.
Nice phone, but the screen developed some white spots, the speaker is bad, ui not good either. Very slow updates.
I also owned 3 Oneplus Ones. All had issues :|
I really like the ZUK. Very smooth, the battery life is crazy good, the screen is beautiful, audio through speaker and headphone jack good, well as you know.
The only bad thing about it is the camera, but it's fixable.
I've sold my OPO today and bought the zuk... It will arrive next week. I hope I don't regret my decision...

You won't
I hope developers will start making custom roms.. It is way much better when you can chose what you want than having to stay with COS alone

I come from OnePlus One which is also a good mobile phone and I think ZUK Z1 is a little better than it as a whole.
I am coming from a Nexus 5 wich starting to fall apart and had pretty bad battery life even on marshmallow.
My zuk z1 arrived this Thursday, unfortunately my Sim didn't fit and I had to order a new one which arrived today. So far I am pretty satisfied with it, the screen is good battery life is pretty good so far as I had the time to play with it. I charged it till 80% on Thursday around 19:00 at the moment I have 7% left with a sot of 5 hours.
I am coming from a Nexus 4 wich is still very good phone, but zuk z1 is amazing
I also greeted my ze551ml!
I'm coming from Lenovo P780, that have in common the monster battery of 4000mah.
On my P780, with a Russian custom ROM I was able to reach 2 days.
Unlucky with this device I barely reach evening.
I'll try tu use with a single sim and see if the situation will increase

I had a Nexus 6 which i smashed. I loved that phone but thought I would get something slightly smaller this time and wanted the fingerprint sensor so the ZUK seemed like a good buy. It's a nice phone but a shame the fingerprint setup is not working properly
From a Oneplus 2.. Sick of battery life and having to use either OxygenOS (why not just use AOSP? Seriously..) or use a ROM I actually like, such as Exodus but then I lose fingerprint functionality.
Much rather the Zuk Z1 with a solid SoC and has a massive battery life, and all the features of the Oneplus 2 but with a good ROM as stock.
I'm very fussy with my phones.
Pleased. I previously owned these phones: BlackBerry 9720, LG Nexus 4, Moto X 1st gen (2013, ghost), and Sony Xperia M2 (D2303). And currently own one Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact (scorpion_windy). My Zuk Z1 brings stellar battery life (1.5 days), CyanogenOS is decent as compared to CyanogenMod (5 incremental updates within a month, no critical bugs or malfunctions). If you can live without LTE/4G band 20 (800mhz), a mediocre camera (pixelated photo, particularly in low light) as well as without NFC support then I do not see any major showstopper. There is no microsd card reader but 64gb storage is more than sufficient for a phone. The Snapdragon 801 CPU is blazzing fast (no stuttering/freeze) but does not support 64-bit instructions (it might not be future proof although I highly doubt it). 3gb of RAM is generous enough for all Android use. The 1080p (IPS?) display is nice although it does not match the Sony Triluminos (Z3TC). Bluetooth works out of the box without issues (as opposed to the stuttering Z3TC scorpion_windy)
Minor issues: the hotspot function (4G to WiFi) sometimes drops (not as stable as a Huawei 5776s-32 mobile WiFi hotspot), the default system font is not fully UTF-8 compliant (causes display issues related to French characters such as ç, é, è ê), does not come with an autoscreen off function when the lid case closes (at least I did not find this option) but such a gap may be closed using a 3rd party app.
No issue with the WiFi component (fast and stable), excellent 4G signal (note my provider does not make use of the 800Mhz band), no much bloatware (not loaded into memory at startup, no Microsoft application such as Cortana or Outlook)
Running CyanogenOS 12.1-YOG4PAS3AJ including Android (5.1.1) patch level 2015-11-01 on 2015-11-03.
coming from a elephone p7000 and previously samsung note 3..
have ma phone for 5 days now and its all smiles...
audio is top notch through both headphone and loud speakers..
os is very satisfying , the numbers of update is great and improvements are noticeable.
battery life is 10/10.......easily 8 hrs on screen time ..............
everyone was complaining about the camera but the updates seem to help..if not just use fv-5v camera app...
only thing i miss a the finger print app lock to lock my apps that was on the p7000.
my personal score 9.5/10 ...........paid 299.00 and very satisfied
Comming from a OnePlus One.
I'm happy with it.
Comming from LG G2. I was looking for another phone with decent battery life.
I resigned from oneplus two invitation and choose ZUK.
Till now I' very pleased with this choice, battery is amaizing, phone works flawlessly. Good choice.

Why should I buy Xperia X Performance?

I have been a big fan of Xperia Z series since the first Z. I changed my phone every time the new Z came out (except Z1 since I just started my career life without much savings).
Every time the new Z came out, I could find its awesomeness, imo, for example the first Z was stylish, waterproof, and powerful but it suffers a lot from heat, washed out display, and loosen waterproof charging caps. Then Z1 came out with more charming metal body, magnetic charging port, and 20 Mpixels camera, highest for a smartphone at the time.
Z2 came out as what the first Z should be at the first place with bigger and vivid screen, stereo speakers, and battery life is awesome to the point that I never found any others with this battery longevity at the time . For Z3, is almost identical to Z2 in term of spec sheet but I found it's very nice to hold in my hand plus the speaker is a lot better, far better than even Z5.
Z4 was very good on the spec sheet, especially with no more microusb cap but the battery life is a very big disappointment with almost half what Z3 lasts. It also suffers a lot of heat from normal uses. Z5 premium is, imo, the most refined Xperia with decent battery life, big screen, stylish material and colors selection.
Also, I don't know if it's me alone but every time I got the new Xperia on my hand, I felt really good and every single one of them was attractive.
Strangely, I can't explain but when I hold X/XP on on my hand, I didn't feel a thing, not even a glimpse of attractiveness although my country is offered 64GB/dual sims variant at the same price as Galaxy S7 (32GB/dual sims variant) with contract. I was never really into Samsung before (not because I hate it but I just neither found it attractive) but this time, I event think of waiting for Note7.
What are you guys' opinions? What are your before and after buying feelings toward X Performance?
How I've tired from this speech. Shut up and go to gnusmas, apple, htc, moto/lenovo, xiaomi, zte, huawei and where u want! DON'T BUY SONY! Moaner!

Thanks a lot for your opinion. Actually I was about to buy XP. The price without contract is very high but the price with contract is acceptable. The plan that I will have to pay for is quite similar to what I currently use but I have to stay with it for a whole year. That's why I ask foy you guys' opinion at the first place. Because I love Xperia but this time I'm not really sure if it worth changing (not in term of spec sheet but your real experience of using it.
It seems you are extremely not appreciate the question but you made a good answer anyway. If a current user doesn't have such a good thing about it to say but purely throwing back a bad temper. It absolutely clarifies my answer.
If you are a dual sim user, you should note that the S7 forces the 2nd sim to be in 2G mode when the 1st sim is in 4G/3G, and vice versa.
On the other hand, the XP allows the 2nd sim to be in 3G-voice standby when the 1st sim is in 4G/3G. This functionality is important for countries like Korea or Japan which no longer have 2G, or countries like Singapore, Australia or USA which are going to shutdown their 2G networks soon. The other phones such as Mi5, Moto G4, Zuk Z2/Pro, etc which support this feature are from Chinese OEMs.
Another advantage the XP has over the S7 is Sony's willingness to allowing unlocking of the bootloader.
Im also considering getting a XP but with its cost here in the Philippines, i might get a S7 or a Z5.
I always look at the batt first, then the speakers, then the cam, then lastly the specs.
Get the sony xperia x performance. Hope getting a blazingly fast phone with a processor that snap dragon actually really refined and improved with a bigger jump than previous iterations.
Your being the best camera in a smart phone and one of the best android UIs on the market. And a nice phone that isn't riddled by logos. It's Sonys best. Everything you need nothing you don't. And the best waterproofing.

^ I've been backreading the XP thread for quite some time now. How's the batt life and the speakers?
i bought mine for good stereo speakers screen size ,can change os if needed, underwater just in case , didn't but HTC cause is was to big and clumsy for me and mini specs wasn't the same at all
but sony dont have same and good speakers anymore
my last phone was twice louder and more bass (wt19i walkman)
but i would've wait for XP is about 50% different from Z5's( i have z5c) 80K and antutu against 120K (XP) and more 200$ bit didn't know how much it would take and my phone was really slow and old 6-5year old
btw Regular Xperia X is less fast than Z5's
anyway it was BIG different from my old sony (LWW wt19i) 10K score 700% LOL.... 1100% could be nicer.. but
to the point if you have Z5 dont buy the XP phone up to 40-60% overall performance does not worth spend another 750US$
The XP is waterproof, you have to get the S7 active of you want that feature, which is locked to AT&T in the US and is priced about 25% more than the XP. That made my choice pretty simple.

I had XPERIA Z5 and bought XPERIA X Performance. This is the best Sony phone to date with no good battery life (battery life is better then one on XPERIA Z5 at the moment). Only reason to buy XPERIA X Performance if you already have XPERIA Z5 is because of heat. XPERIA X Performance only heats when using camera longer or if you play games too long and now in Croatia outside temperature is about 35 C. So if the heat is your reason buy it. Otherwise don't buy it. But if you have some older phone you should buy it.
About swiching to Samsung instead I don't know. I am not Samsung fun because of their UI.
Coming from z1c, z3c, z5c to now owning the XP for less then a week.
Before the XP the z5c was a let down compared to its predecessor the z3c. Particularly in general performance but moreover the lacklustre camera performance (the plagued 810 chip didn't help the Z5 line.)
Now, the XP.
Hands down is a far more refined device. As refined as the z3c. The performance is lightning - thanks to the 820 chip and the extra GB ram (3gb.)
Coupled with the lightning performance on the camera FUNCTIONALITY (I'm not stating the QUALITY of the Shots are the best - however the quality is drastically better then the z5c predecessor.)
But what I am stating is that the camera responds and opens and takes pictures faster then on any Sony I've played with (those of you coming from the z5 line know exactly what I'm on about.)
For instance, from standby/sleep mode. As long as the camera settings are preset to 'Launch & Capture.' Then when taking a picture from standby you will notice the picture that has been captured is of that instance of when you clicked the camera button... Although the UI hasn't even rendered. Try this with a moving object and you will notice how frkin fast the capture time is.
Again not professing the QUALITY of the Shots are superior, but simply that the function of the camera is now quite sublime.
The XP works VERY VERY WELL, overall outstanding performance. Yes it will have its niggles. But generally it's the best of what Sony have been trying to achieve.
I don't care for 4k video capture. Nor a 4k or QHD screen. This 1080p is more then ample for a phone. For me coming from the zCompact series (720p screens), this XP screen is amazing and more then enough.
I am very pleased with this device.
The only drawback is the lacklustre Sony Stamina mode. But this is almost not there fault. For OEMs to provide Android phones officially they must adopt key features from Google's updates, hence Sony HAD to employ Google Doze feautre, in this forced effort they clearly couldn't employ Sony's native Stamina Mode (succesfully at least) in the way we'd been accustomed to especially on the z3 line (you can imagine Doze and Sony Stamina not working happily hand in hand, as they both in essence are trying to achieve the same thing, albeit Sony Stamina Mode was far superior.)
Just my 2cents on anyone fighting with Sony Stamina Mode.
Fantastic device.

Having read through the XP forum here, and then this thread, I felt some '1st Hand Heritage Sony User' experience and comprehension was required.
I also can attest that the fingerprint sensor on the XP is insanely faster then the z5c. Wasn't expecting it to be quite this responsive. Impresses on that front too.
Sony UI is second to the Nexus Line. That's a fact.
As good as Samsung's hardware is, there software is like a step backwards from Androids look/feel. Whereas Sony manage to keep the look/feel impressively Stock (replace Sony Launcher with Nova all day everyday, and I don't think you would notice much difference between a Nexus user experience and the Sony User' experience - again this is from my 1st hand experience.)
1 niggle I've noticed, actually since the z3 line, is that the WiFi signal has typically got poorer over longer distance from the WiFi router.
I can achieve a better WiFi signal on my z3c then I can on my z5c and XP.
This thread should be changed to 'Why wouldn't you buy the XP?' ?

I've been a Sony Fanboy since the Release of the Xperia S, I owned the SP, the ZR bought the Z1 Compact as well and finally the Z3 Compact and I must say they did really well on those devices, especially the Z3 Compact. But looking at the X Performance, I think they're just trying too hard, the price tag to begin with doesn't even look welcoming at 700 Dollars for a phone without any fingerprint scanner, and the battery life isn't any good as well reading from numerous reviews which compares it to the previous flagship the Z5. For now I have my eyes set either on the S6 or the One M9, especially the M9. Those boomsound speakers sound better than Sony's speakers any time.
This is just my opinion tho, If coming from the Z3 Device line, stick with your Z3 and wait for newer models. The Z3 is by far one of the best Sony Z Line phones, stable, doesn't overheat and an active community to keep it going.
So true RE Z3 as the standout of all Sony's.
When it comes to a price war, then yes, the XP price is very overzealous. Can't argue there.
But i find when it comes to a User requiring the 3 points below (such as myself, typically coming from Sony's compact range):
1. Comfortable 1 handed ergonomics.
2. Up to date hardware
3. a Nexus like - look & feel (an unadulterated Android experience.)
Then I conclude the XP is at the forefront in this regard.
Personnel preferences as always ?

How is the phone in 2017?

Hello everyone, just a few questions before I buy this phone:
1. How is the phone this year? - reception, screen on time, etc.
2. How is the battery life? Will I need to replace? I had z5c but wasn't happy with the battery and over heating...
3. Is the reception still good? Camera?
4. I've been reading some reviews about glass cracking and screen coming off because of the glue wearing out, is that true?
I'm buying brand new but still interested in your input. Thanks!
As a guy who is now waiting for his new LG G6 I can say some final words about my Xperia Z3 Compact before I sell it:
Reception - very nice, no problems with the signal at all.
Screen on time - non-root, bluetooth always on, mobile data always on, streaming with spotify, Android Wear watch always connected - ~4,5 - 5 hours. Android Marshmallow killed the Sony's wonderful STAMINA mode so the SOT is just... average.
Performance - very, very nice. Never had any problems with the speed AS LONG AS THE PHONE STAYED COOL. What do I mean?
The heat... - because the components are arranged in pretty DUMB way (I'm an electronic's service specialist and this is my opinion), the CPU and other heat-generating components are right under the display, then there is PCB and then the battery. On Marshmallow the phone tends to overheat pretty quickly and it's hard to cool it down sometimes especially when you are in urge of charging the phone... Good luck... This brings me to:
The GPS - AWFUL. AWFUL. AWFUL. Sony messed up the construction of the phone, the GPS antenna connectors are not properly touching the copper plates on the antenna itself which causes the GPS work like S.H.*.T. . Sorry for the offensive words but imagine Google Maps telling you to turn left... 300 meters after the corner. Your marker stays in one position, the phone is searching for the GPS, the position changes and the marker freezes again. Repeat it infinitely amount of times. I fought with this crap for more than a year now, just got the phone from the Service Center, they changed some parts and the problem remains the same so I decided to sell it and try another manufacturer.
Overall battery life is pretty good on MM as long as you have a brand new device which should be cheap now. On KitKat it's MUCH better but you lose some functionality.
Camera and photo quality - NO. Absolutely NO. After SIX YEARS of being loyal I will NEVER choose Sony over any other smartphone manufacturer as long as they will keep their VERY aggressive post processing in photos. I miss my Xperia T which took much better photos in terms of... pretty much everything except the resolution. Many people may disagree with me but check the tests. Sony tends to squeeze much more pixels in the same sized sensor as their other 12-13-16 megapixel sensors which are much better in LG, Samsung, Xiaomi phones etc. Every time new Sony flagship came out, I checked the camera quality by myself f.e. in the store or with help of my friends who bought the specific model. Compared to Z3C it's slightly different, but the overall problem remains the same. It's really sad their sensors are the best on the market but their smarphone's cameras are just... meh. And don't look at DxOMark results, look at real-life tests, GSMarena photo comparison tool etc.
Glass cracking, glue coming off - this problem affected early Z3C models from 2014, in 2015 they mostly fixed this problem. The same comes to glue comin off. Mine never had any problems at all, the phone was always sealed perfectly.
If you want to be loyal to Sony, buy Z3C, but if you're still not sure... think twice.
Yes, if romcio47 advise in the same way like he advised me.. don't listen to him. He said that I should not buy Xperia (pointing nearly the same reasons like in his post) so i bought... iPhone. Now I'm unhappy with that I spent a lot of money for a phone that have 16gb of memory, poor battery life and I'm always interrupted on street.
If you were not happy with your x5c, don't buy worse phone
Reception - haven't had any problems
Screen on time - I use LineageOS and I didn't really measure the screen on time, the last time I checked it passed 4 hours and that includes Snapchat,Facebook,Messenger,YouTube, music listening and playing 8 Ball Pool.
Performance - The performance on Lineage is amazing haven't had literally any lag, only needed to change the profile to performance in battery settings since my phone overheats like a b*tch and when it would get hot in normal profile it would thermal throttle so much(but this is just my unit because I saw people having much better temperatures)
Camera - In my opinion I think the camera is okay nothing special to be honest for me on Lineage it does take decent photos, only the colour is a bit off.,but I am not the biggest fan of the front camera, quality wise it is good but I wish it had wide angle lens like the Galaxy S6 or S5
Glass cracking and glue coming off - well I didn't have any issues with the glass cracking itself but from my experience the screen cracks very easily when it falls,I already had two screen replacements in a year because it fell, and when the glass cracks it kills the touch digitizer as well.
About the glue coming off,I didn't have problems with the screen itself, but the back glass started to come off,but I think this is because my device overheated so much on so many occasions the glue probably got very weak.
If you ask me,I would only buy the Z3 Compact as a replacement phone in case the main phone breaks to be honest,it does have qualities definitely for a daily driver and I do use it currently as a daily driver, but when my contract expires gonna pick up a LG G6,feels pretty compact but has a killer camera and a solid screen.
I am not going to sell it,going to keep it since it is a very good phone and not worth selling,as I said it is perfect to be a replacement phone.
Thanks guys! Really appreciate your input. I had a z5c and sold it for an iPhone SE, then sold it for a Leeco Pro 3. I really miss compact phone, so I will definitely think about this matter! I am currently looking at X compact as well

Sony Slim 5" works to me too, but not WP like z3 and z5 family.
iPhone 7 is ****ing perfect, and yu will be happy when yu see the taller iPhone 8. No more One hand device.

I have been using the phone in Glove mode for the past 6 months due to the touchscreen being unresponsive. As of yesterday, even Glove mode isnt working for the back and home buttons! Although I have liked the phone otherwise, this has seriously put me of getting another Sony phone in the future. Ive only had the phone over 2 years. My previous Moto ran for 4 years before I upgraded.
