Touch screen inconsistency - Sony Xperia X Performance Questions & Answers

Hello all,
Does anyone have issues with their xperia XP's touch screen being funky at times?
I notice this most when I type by swiping ( Google keyboard, swift key, xperia keyboard)... The swipe will break half way, kinda annoying but I've been dealing with it.
Is this fixable with a custom ROM or software update in the future? Or is it more a hardware issue?
Any advise is appreciated, thanks!

Yes, has been written many times before.
The touch screen sucks
Sent from my F8131 using XDA-Developers mobile app

There is, 100%
Turn on developer mode and enable touch and turn on "SHOW TOUCHES". Play around with your phone, occasionally you'll notice your touch registers (dot on screen after touch) but the phone doesn't recognize or register your touch as an interaction with the device. It's like it happens, but it doesn't process your request.
Exchanged XP for X, exchanged X for another X. After two, I settled to keep this one, it's consistent across the board and it makes for a terrible typing experience if you're quick, you have to slow down your typing by about 75% and the keyboard is working overtime to correct missed keys and typos.

Maybe changing the keyboard will improve it? I mean, I only experience it when typing in the keyboard but other activities like swiping and dragging does not show any inconsistencies

Not the issue here... Mine is not normal, it is in every app and one time is went crazy and registered touch on its own on the table. Bad quality.
When using any keyboard on mine with swipe with two fingers for typing it simply is impossible to write and often when swiping it stops and writes on its own

I will have to wait as I need my phone. Maybe updates will fix this issue, I will give it one more update

Restarting the phone usually fix the issue for me so pretty sure it's a firmware/ROM issue ( also fix auto-rotation issue)
Waiting for update/custom rom =P

I used touchscreen calibration and have not had any issues with the screen going crazy for two days now.
Typing with two fingers does still not work though, but I can swipe without issues now.
If the problem comes back I will let you know, but two days without problems is brilliant

Is this software or hardware? Its really bad on mine,. Along with my signal. I really don't like this phone. Not to mention the lack of development or updates. My phone is almost unusable half the time between the screen and signal

hm..

Non responsive touchscreen

Hello,
Since I've bought my Incredible S about 8 months ago, I've been experiencing this problem. Somethimes, when I'm writing a message, there is 1 letter that doesn't work, if I press on it, it chooses the letter besides it. If I exit the app and reopen it, everything is fine. So its only the keyboard that's acting weird.
I had this on the standard 2.3.3 and 2.3.5 and now on 4.0.3 with the Virtuous Quatrro ROM.
Now I'm using the default ICS keyboard, on Gingerbread I used Better Keyboard.
Does anyone know a sollution?
Just to notice, my phone was send to HTC for repair somewhere around Octobre last year, and they replaced the whole front, including the screen. 2 weeks before that, they replaced the motherboard. So I still had the problem after the repair. And I think it's not software related, bevause it's just when I'm typing something, and not when I'm scrolling trough menu's or something like that.
Had the same problem. And I have a solution: don't notice it
I know its irritating sometimes, but that's not a real problem, so take it easy

Well, half the times I'm writing a message there is at least one key not working, and I have to reopen the app, it's quite frustrating...

I have had that problem with my mum's Wildfire S as well.
But then i realized that the phone had not been rebooted in a while.
Restarting the phone did the trick so i assumed that there were too many programs running in the background.
However, now after i guess a couple of months, the problem still persists albeit at a very minor stage.
Either lock the screen then unlock it. Or reboot the phone.
Both methods work for me when I get this issue. I use the lockscreen when I need my phone but if I've got a 5mins spare ill reboot.

The funny part is when this issue occurs, sliding the lock screen also seems impossible
Then lockscreen and unlock it again and all is fixed? ..... when I have issues with lock screen I just lock and re-unlock then it fixes it.
Does that work for you?

Locking and unlocking the lockscreen helpes, but there has to be a permanent sollution for this right?
Not that I know of. ....are you using just stock lockscreen etc or do you have 3rd party apps like widget locker?

Ahh. Could try a clean install of a different rom see if it happens? Tbh I'm just learning to live with it I get it once a week even less than that sometimes.

I get it like 20 times a day so it's pretty annoying..
Sent from my HTC Incredible S using XDA
Ahh then I honestly have no idea. I get it nown and again so it doesn't bother me too much.
All I can say it maybe try a different rom or kernel. Other than that I'm unsure maybe something internally it knackered as a worst case scenario.

I had this problem aswell. It started out in the same way as yours just being a tad un responsive, but slowly got worse. What it turned out to be was that digitizer was faulty as I replaced the digitizer myself and the problem was solved. As you say that the screen etc has been replaced before this could well be the case. I would recommend getting in done professionally as it isn't an easy job. Look on the market for a touch screen test app and see if you have any dead spots.

i've had the unresponsive lockscreen issue when using cm7 and cm7 based roms, then today i checked set cpu and i had a profile for screen off - a low clock speed with conservative governor. Changed to interactive and slightly high clock speeds and dont seem to be facing the issue any more....at least its been okay for the past 6 hours...hope this helps
I find if you lock the phone and wipe the screen until it's nice and clean it fixes this problem. It could be caused by a buildup of finger oils on the screen, or from your face after making a call. Not to sure though.

Ya know, my old HTC phone had this delay and I thought it was b/c my phone was old and slower... I still notice some lag here too. Sometimes it's 1 sec, others though I take note of a 2-ish second delay.
Might be something we have to live with for now.
i havent noticed lag after removing the vibration feedback.

Pinch and Zoom issue

It looks like Sony messed it up again after it was prevalent in arc. The below video shows how the pinch to zoom works jerky and doesn't work properly at times. To better illustrate,
* I have zoomed in using default Album app
* Used QuickPic as well
* Zoomed in a website in Chrome
In all cases, the zoom doesn't work. It simply doesn't record my gestures properly. Many of the users have reported in the issue, I'm hoping myself that it's a firmware issue. But as time passes, it makes me think that my panel is faulty as well. Please report or suggest guys. If you haven't tried this yet, then please do across all apps which this zooming feature.
Steps taken:
* Ran Xperia Diagnostics app.
* Full repair in PCC and also in FT as well.
Note: The video is hefty at 78 megs, sorry in order to show you how clearly it was misbehaving, I couldn't compromise on quality. Please do watch.
Box link: https://app.box.com/s/mas3tj8gvaqctn19dq1n
Update: It's a hardware issue. Gave my device for replacement today.

Hmm have to say not come across this issue, pinching and zooming is fine for me. Things that you can try: Update the phone to the latest firmware to rule that out, if you still have an issue then it is a hardware fault with your panel, i really do hate how people are so quick to bash Sony. Things like this happen, hardware faults do occur from time to time, get a replacement if that is the case, warranty should cover it.

They will and they should. I was told that if Z1 was bought a week back or within a week, they will replace the entire kit (box). As mine's 2 weeks old, I'll get the device only it seems. They've quoted me a max of 3-5 days. They told me that I'll also get a backup phone after 2 days.

Do you know what? When I gave the device, the issues I mentioned were the zoom and yellow hue issue. The rep didn't agree with the hue issue although he agreed with the zoom issue. But after he started using the device, two additional issues were found. SoD and random reboot. My Z1 started rebooting randomly.Phew, I gave it at last. The problem sheet of my Z1 has four issues in total now.

Same, same same!!! I had the same issue too after disabling it. Don't worry. A few reboots should do. Also you can leave as it is for some time then try again. If not, then start the device - Power off using the red colored switch present in the SIM card slot. Reboot again.

Digits not showing up when pressed in call

Scenario: on call with any service center, they ask u to press bunch of keys according to which department u r trying to reach.
In my case when I'm in call, I can press the keys on on-screen keyboard and they take effect as required, however I don't see what key I've actually pressed.
Is this common issue for everyone? It's not big of a deal only thing is I need to be very sure what exactly I'm typing even then I would like to fix it, if fix is out there.
I'm guessing it will be fixed with custom Rom or an update so I'm not worrying too much (but that seems bit far fetched - due to bootloader camera issue )

First, verify if it is a software issue by factory reset and/or flashing a new rom. If that does not work then it's most likely a hardware issue and the only solution to hardware problems is to bring the phone to Sony if you're willing to pay or to a black market area in your city if you wanna pay less, either way the screen replacement won't be cheap and if its not OEM quality might be compromised. Good luck

I got that cause too.. I thought that was hardwere problem.. So the best solution i used gravity box xposed. And i was activated double tap home to scroll a notification bar
Had the same problem. Did factory reset but the problem was not solved. Unfortunately it is a hardware issue. The phone was still under warranty so I sent it to sony service center. I got it back in three days. They changed the screen and a banch of other things as well. All is working ok now.
