Rooting the xperia performance - Sony Xperia X Performance Questions & Answers

I just received my XP and to start off with I want to root.
All root methods I've found, need to unlock the bootloader before rooting.
I'm looking for methods to unlock the phone without unlocking the bootloader.

it would already help to have a temporary root to be able to save the TA partition. With a TA backup you could unlock the bootloader, install the AndoPlusKernel build and flash a prerooted image and look (restore TA) the bootloader again
Waiting for an exploit...

Unfortunately not

I found this link to towelroot. I do not know if it works (haven't tried it yet), but this might be a solution.
If it works one should be able to backup the TA partition with TA-Backup if this still works for recent devices.

It won't work as Sony already patched it.

Does anybody knows any of the methods mentioned in the following link, do they work without unlocking because unlocking is not mentioned.

It's scam website (copy and paste...).
All rootkit released before now won't work.

is the lack of root an issue from Sony or Android? I thought Sony was pretty welcoming to the Dev community and even allowed unlocking the bootloader

I guess until Nougat is released there will be no news. Maybe then there is some sort of exploit.

As far as I know - if the device is unlocked you can't use OTA updates?
How do you upgrade your android version if there are no custom roms then? (like when nougat finally comes out for the f8131)

With Flashtool and / or Sony Companion it shouldn't be a problem.

but what about your BRAVIA2/DRM keys???
I thought once you unlock BL it formats the TA partition...?
Ah I give up I'll wait until some easy options.... what I got was you cant backup your TA without root----> You cant root without your BL unlocked ( firmware .253 for now), you will lose BA2 and Drm if you unlock your bootloader.... So the question still rolls how to root your Z tablet with Firmware .253 without unlocking BL ?

maybe because the tablet is still very new, theres not many out there that people have their hands on..
might be best to wait until its been released world wide and a lot more of this is on demand?

From what I read, TA needs to be backed up before any BL unlock. once its unlocked the TA partition is gone for good along with the keys...no way of ever getting it back

I was playing around with 4.3 last night and found a solution
- Flash the .67 firmware via flashtool
- Root 4.2 as you would have
- Backup the TA partition and Unlock your bootloader to relock the boot loader and avoid losing any DRM keys later
- Using flashtool flash the new firmware .569 (4.3)
- Then flash Doomlords advanced stock kernel
- Boot 4.3 and power down
- Using the recovery installed with the kernel flash a superSU.zip from somewhere around here.
- Reboot and you now should have root
- Reflash ONLY the .569 kernel from the FTF
- Power on and Restore your TA partition to relock your boot loader and return everything back to normal with root

You can't backup the TA after you unlock the bootloader!
It's the unlocking that kills the DRM keys.

Do you think there is way to root 4.3 on locked boot loader without sticky thread or at least thread on the top list ?
No way right now to root 4.3 locked and when it will be found you will find a lot of propaganda & at least sticky thread for this in The Developer section .

I don't get it ... so you are saying that you unlocked your unlockable bootloader? And you managed to root the latest update? That would be cool! But if I am not mistaken there's absolutely no way of unlocking a bootloader that is not allowed to be unlocked by the device. Anyways that would be cool if the devs give us this nice gift! But then again I am unaware that you can unlock the 4.3 as yet.

[Q] Pre-rooted FTF over top of non-rooted? Locked bootloader.

My Z1 (C6906 sim-unlocked) will arrive tomorrow, and I'm looking for the simplest route to getting root and backing up my TA prior to unlocking my bootloader.
On other devices, the system partition is not signed, so I've been able to use the stock tools to flash just a pre-rooted system partition to gain root, without having to muck about with exploits. Is there anything like that possible on the Z1? I was all set to download the ftf listed in this thread, but then I realized it's for C6903.. I don't see a non-carrier-specific FTF for C6906 of the same version #.
I do see this thread - can I follow that to get root without losing my TA/DRM keys, and move on from there?
I apologize for having to ask, there is a LOT of info about these devices, some seems to be old and conflicting, and as a newbie to these devices, I can't really tell what's the good info yet.

Thanks both of you. I did understand how to backup the TA/DRM keys, but I wanted to make sure I could get rooted without losing them first (and I'm really glad there's a root option that doesn't rely on a chinese .exe of unknown repute).
Yes first root then backup the TA then unlock bootloader. It is safe and easy. Use this ta backup tool http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292598

[Q] Rooting ZR + TA partition backup

Hi,
I have a Sony Xperia ZR (C5503), with stock android 4.3.
My goal is to root it and backup the TA partition before unlocking the bootloader.
I found 2 ways to backup TA partition with a locked bootloader. Both methods however require me to root my device first.
The first one redirected me to DooMLoRD's root rool
However, when I try to use it, it gets stuck waiting for device. I made sure:
- adb was running correctly (ZR drivers)
- USB-debugging was enabled
- Unknown sources was enabled
- Tried both MTP and MSC (USB connection mode)
Eventually I gave up trying.
The second one redirected me to Root MANY ANDROID!, which is unforunately incompatible with the ZR.
Now my questions are:
Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong when trying to use Doomlords tool?
Does anyone know another root tool which works with a locked bootloader?
Does anyone know a way of backing up the TA partition without root access?
Thanks in advance

Hi friend, use prerooted 4.3 available in Android development forum of ZR.
It will not require you to unlock bootloader. It is very easy but carefully read all instructions.

*#*#7378423#*#* from your phone dialer, go to service tests, then security, if there are entries in there and show the status of ok then you don't need to worry, you haven't lost your ta partition. What I would suggest is that you then go ahead to the thread about backing up the TA Partition and do it.
Simple rooting via Towelroot does not remove TA partition. It's unlocking your bootloader that will remove the TA partition. So if you have not unlocked the bootloader, then your TA partition is still there.
you can find a useful tutorial of using "flash tool" and how flashing .ftf files, here:

*#*#7378423#*#* from your phone dialer, go to service tests, then security, if there are entries in there and show the status of ok then you don't need to worry, you haven't lost your ta partition. What I would suggest is that you then go ahead to the thread about backing up the TA Partition and do it.

Hi ! I am a new Xperia Z1 owner and want to root, unlock the bootloader and install a custom recovery so I can flash roms. I am on the new .108 firmware - any guides ? How do I do this ? Thanks for your reply in advance !

There's a thread that should explain everything you asked.. For root and custom recovery there's a really simple trick with towelroot (look for it), for everything else you should look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2439328

I've read it through already but it's for older firmware so I can't follow it... Is an option to root the Z1 whilst having the bootloader locked then backup Ta partition and then unlock the bootloader and install a custom recovery?

Look, you're right saying that's an old thread but you should just download the latest corresponding files (http://nut.xperia-files.com) and you should be done! Otherway Google "how to unlock bootloader xz1" or stuff you need and you'll find more recent guides.
