[MOD] Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Surround Sound - Verizon Galaxy Note 4 Android Development

History
My son dropped my Samsung Galaxy Note 4 in the toilet. I own a computer and smartphone repair shop. So I immediately disassembled the entire device and cleaned it. Everything worked great but the sound was lower than usual. I haven't had the chance to replace the loud speaker yet. I remember an old mod that was available for the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 that would allow sound to pass-through the front ear speaker. I found this MOD over in another forum and it works great for our SM-N910V
Just rename your original mixer_paths.xml to mixer_paths.xml.bak and manually replace with the file provided below. File location system/etc/mixer_paths.xml
I am not the creator of this MOD. I just thought it would be useful and a good contribution to our perspective forum.

Original thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-edge/development/mod-sm-915t-surround-sound-t2955648
Just extract and paste to correct location and set permissions to RW-R--R-- or 0644
Reboot and enjoy!

Thanks that is wonderful for this info. man Pandora sounds so much butter.:good::highfive:

Does this damage your earpiece with long term use?

Not sure... You can check the original post. I've never had issues using it on my Note 2

Works great, sounds great, thank you!

Same thing happened to me. Just restart the process.
Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk

What do you mean. I changed the files and restarted. Pandora kept skipping tracks and youtube didnt work. It was pretty bad
Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk

Sounds like a connection problem. I found this mod while running MM.
Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk

If you're running any other mods like viper or xposed, set those up first then swap the file.
Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk

Funny i did. Ill redownload again and see
*update* so i figured out the problem. I didnt give the extra permission for read on others. Iono i didnt have to do when i was on LL. But i guess i had to do it for MM. Thanx everyone for shooting out ideas. So for anyone using root explorer. Make sure u have the permissions correct.
Lol i just relooked OP. Sigh smh. Sorry been sick and out of it
Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk

Lol. Glad it worked.

Hi, I know this is an old thread but if I use this will sound pass through the ear piece and the speaker on back?

Did I get a clone phone?

Hi all. I recently bought another S3 4G and it feels no where near as good as my old S3 is there a way to tell if I have received a clone phone? It says galaxy S3 and I successfully installed ripper rom on it but it just don't feel right.
Also what is a room that has 0 system apps on it and is bare so I can start from scratch?
Thanks

Well when I plugged it into the PC it said hardware ID missing but then Kies installed drivers so I'm guessing so but not to sure.
Sent from my GT-I9305 using Tapatalk 2
Simply put: If it says it registers to be a SGS III and you can install a ROM that is device specific then it is an S III. If you are still curious though try finding a hardware reading or something and compare it to normal S IIIs

If it is running a Samsung ROM that would brick any other device other than the I9305, then it would have it.

Okay I'll check everything as soon as I get home . Thanks for the help everyone.
My other question is what's a rom with everything removed and just the important things like phone and messaging ect
Sent from my GT-I9305 using Tapatalk 2
Well it was detected as a S3 and I installed 2 I9305 Roms on it so must just be because....... Well I dunno. Its black maybe lol? Just doesn't feel the same as my old S3 4G did.
It will grow on me

Hahaha I can imagine the feeling actually, well enjoy and I strongly recommend Liquid Smooth ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2149746), it is basically the same as Cyanogenmod (both AOSP) but unlike CM it has an official build, less bugs (in my experience), proper support and a proper maintainer though it would not be there if not for CodeWorkx so many thanks to him.

Yes I have it on my phone, it has never bugged flashing. If it were to have the Samsung features then it would have a crap load of bloatware on it, making it slower etc. It doesn't even come with the calendar installed so it doesn't like bloatware (excluding GTalk)

Yes real write it in the search all forums box again it's called viper4android and it's a sound mod believe me look it up and let me know.one
It sounded great on my evo 3d before upgrading to this. But would rather not mess with the audio of a phone that's already supposed to have great audio - don't wanna blow a speaker or anything.
And thanks for caps lock, it was so much easier to read and got me super excited.

I was using it on viperROM 1.1.0 and it sounded great. Haven't tried on 4.3 yet.
Sent from my HTCONE using Tapatalk 4
I use it on my one with 4.3. It's the best sound mod. Nothing else like it
Sent from my HTCONE using Xparent Blue Tapatalk 2
It's simply the best mod out there with a ton of customization. It's not one of those other mods that you just flash and it sounds however the developer likes it to sound. You're in control and you have different settings for headphones, speakers, and Bluetooth with the option of having multiple profiles if you use different hardware. For example, you may want to have different setting for your car's stereo instead of using what you have set for your headphones or other things. If you want the most out of your music then I highly recommend it.... It's even coming to windows.

Within busybox, there's an option to install full busybox, or something to that degree. That's what you need

crackling sound with a voice

I have my galaxy gear from att running stock with a few sideloaded apps. I have really enjoyed using the watch and use s voice for responding to texts. However the speaker sometimes sounds crackly. I don't know if I can fix it or need to take it back to att.
Any advice?
Yeah I'm having the same issue I returned the first one I had cause of that issue I'm rooted and on null 18

The farther I am from my phone when using s-voice, the worse it gets. If I'm next to my phone, it's fine. Go upstairs and phone down, it's crackly. I feel it's not the speaker but just the relay between phone and gear is weak, like when I used blue tooth headsets and would push the limits on distance.

i have same issue while using mostly at time the svoice app... thought it was a defect but sounds like a app on the most part

Omg thank you so much. Was blowing my mind how music/video, sound just fine. While S Voice kept cracking "manly used it when phone was away on charger" kept cracking. Then I put it in my pocket while standing and sound just fine.

Very low volume/sound...

Hi guys my gear is suffering from very low sound volume from the speaker, I can hear it its just very faint. It used to work fine, here is my set up ...stock NA3 which I have since downgraded to stock mk7 I also downgraded the gear manager and have performed multiple resets nothing seems to help. Is my only hope to send it to Samsung? it works, i just can't hear the bloody thing!

I don't think so though but I guess it's possible. ... It's in for warranty repair at the moment, I will update when I get it back. On a side note I find myself really missing the convenience of staying in touch with the world at the flick of the wrist, after having a smart watch I can't imagine myself ever not owning one.

Okay, I called Samsung last Friday morning and by Saturday morning they had sent out the return envelope... Posted Monday morning and have just received a brand new watch and cradle back from them! So 6 days in total from 1st contact to new watch on my arm, THANK YOU VERY MUCH SAMSUNG.

Do you happen to have the contact information for them? Mine is doing the same thing. I don't think it's a water issue either. Thanks a million

I think I may go to best buy and mess around with their watches and compare sound levels. See if it's normal to be lower or if mine is just low. I feel they should have included the speaker on the actual strap facing you (opposite the camera).

Maybe some funk got in the speaker hole or the speaker itself got inverted somehow.

I blew some compressed air into the speaker and it seems to be louder now.
Hope this helps someone else in this position.

M8 vs Note 3 user experience.

Anybody come from a Note 3? I'm thinking of trading my Note for one of these.

The only thing I can see that you'll miss is the screen size.. and maybe the stylus.. otherwise everything else beats the note 3. I did notice that even with a gig of less ram, this phone still out performs the note 3. Oh and the sound is worth the switch alone.

Agreed 100% The stylus was great for a while but like all Samsung gimmicks, they just get in the way after a while.
And I know not everyone likes it, but BlinkFeed is a feature I use every day.

I made the transition from the Note 3 to this phone. The Note 3 ran pretty much flawlessly for me and I had no real complaints about it. It's just that I'm kind of phone obsessed and really wanted this phone.
This phone definitely has a way sexier build and feels like a quality device compared to the Note 3. I also feel that the camera is better on this phone than the Note 3. The difference in screen size is noticeable but this screen is not exactly small so you will get used to it after a little while.
Overall, if you are a phone fanatic who needs the latest and greatest I don't think you'll regret getting the M8. It's a sleek and sexy phone that takes better pics than the Note 3
One of the features I love on my Note is being able to assign a Notification Tone to a contact. Is this possible on the M8?

I currently own both (Note 3) and (M8 Harman Kardon Edition).
While the M8 has superior build quality and superior sound it does not beat the Note 3 imo...Especially if you use and love S-Pen functionality and care about camera quality.
