For Anyone Who Ordered Direct from Samsung - T-Mobile Note 7 Questions & Answers

I just got off the phone with a kind woman over at Samsung regarding my pre-order, placed on the 3rd of this month. I was simply asking her -- considering both t-mobile and verizon have begun charging/shipping phones -- whether or not I should stick with my order at Samsung directly, or cancel it and go through my provider (Verizon... I know).
She very warmly told me, that Samsung would not be shipping phones until mid-September... I got a little worked up at this point and said "excuse me? I ordered this on the pretense that it would be shipped AT THE LEAST by the 19th" to which she fumbled around for a bit and told me that, "No dear, all Samsung orders are going out mid-September."
Suffice to say - this was rather surprising news and I'm pretty damned upset about it. I think I'll be going ahead and cancelling my order and walking into a store on Friday.
Just a heads up to anyone else waiting (if anyone else is waiting) on Samsung direct.
ETA - I didn't mean to post this in the T-mobile section - my apologies!!

I had also preordered the Coral Blue Note 7 directly from samsung.com and chose T-Mobile as the carrier. After reading your post, I called up samsung customer service too and they told me that those that preordered will be receiving the first batch before August 19th. I'm not sure if its just a T-Mobile thing though, since I see that you ordered from Verizon. Maybe you should try calling Verizon too to verify this information before you cancel.

I actually called back a couple of times to get some kind of statistical honesty... Yeah I know.
Finally I spoke to someone high enough up the ladder who said, "the only people who know when the phones from Samsung will ship, are the corporate execs. Despite what anyone tells you, only carriers can release early, as the manufacturer, we just wait. However, if you did preorder early, you will get your phone around the 19th as we've been told."
It only took me 5 phone calls to get some honesty... Albeit bizarre honesty. ALL I WANTED WAS TO HEAR 'Hey man, I'm gonna ship your phone on Monday!"
BTW I also went with coral blue, ordered on 8/3

The difference is a carrier branded model vs an unlocked intl model...might be worth the wait to get an unlocked exynos next month than a carrier branded and bootloader locked device now (or within days...)

Yeah I'm realizing that now after I pre-ordered with a presumption that it would be unlocked. I cannot stand a locked bootloader with no root. Going to return it take a $50 hit for a restocking fee lick my wounds wait 2-3 weeks for the international version to come out.. they have them on Amazon already for $980 but you can't order until August 31st. I guess I'll play with this for 2 weeks before I return it cuz I'm getting charged $50 either way for a restocking fee whether I open the box or not... Plus China is getting a version with 6 gigabytes of RAM and 128 gigabytes of storage. That's what we were supposed to get the begin with from what I understand I've been waiting a year for this. I love the Note line..I have owned every Note ever made... in the last few years it feels like they add one thing and take away two! Samsung needs to be Samsung not copy or emulate Apple.. and also listen to the people because in the end it's us who spend our hard-earned money to buy these products they are now costing upwards to $1,000....if they don't... then I'll have to hit the lottery and start my own phone company with an S Pen...I'll call it Snapple....hahaha

Lol here's the deal- money talk and sh*t walks. Samsung will make WAY more money from idiots who haven't a clue what a bootloader even is thru samsung pay alone than what they'd lose if EVERY XDA member who's ever registered decided not to buy because of it...it's a no brainer for them. And as much as I've loved my Note devices (all of them since the N2) it's a real kick in the teeth smh makes me not want to buy one at all smh except I'll just wait on the 930F or get the Chinese 6gb model imported and activate on BYOD...

Anyone Pre-order a Galaxy Tab S From AT&T?

I pre-ordered an 8.4 and it's due to ship September 23. I've been salivating over the Tab S ever since the WiFi models dropped a couple of months ago. Just a few more days and the wait is finally over!
I just pre ordered after playing with the tab s 8.4 at bestbuy... Excited!!!
I don't understand "Pre-ordering"
So let me get this straight. Manufacturers want us to pay now for something they are not even selling yet. They want to take our money now but not actually give us anything for it until later. All for the "privilege" of owning it a few days before other people. Does that about sum it up?
I fully understand why the manufacturers like this arrangement. Get the money now and deliver later makes great sense for them. To me though, it makes absolutely no sense for the consumer.
Every time I watch the iSheep line up outside an Apple Store I think: "So what? Are they going to run out? Actually they might if you feel you must have one the first day (though I fail to see the practical advantage of that - they will keep making them after all). If I wait until next week will I not be able to buy one (hint: Yes I will be able to buy one next week)? Will they say, no you did not pre-order or stand in line all night so you don't get one?" I sort of doubt that will happen. They will still want my money next week. In fact, wait a little longer (for anything that's not an "i" product) and the price will actually go down.

If you continually wait for a lower price or the new device that's just around the corner, you'll never own anything. I pre-ordered because I could. I've been waiting for an LTE Galaxy Tab S ever since the WiFi models launched 3 months ago. I pre-ordered so that I can save myself the 20 minute drive to my closest AT&T corporate store and instead have my tablet shipped to my house and have it a couple of days early. There is no premium to be paid for pre-ordering. Sure, you're giving them money before you get the device, but there's no risk there. You'll get your device.

Or you could just get it from Amazon with (typically) free two day shipping. No 20 minute drive required and (also typically) notably cheaper than getting the device elsewhere. For example, a Verizon Galaxy s5 phone is currently $199 with contract direct from Verizon but $79.99 on Amazon.

You can't buy the AT&T version on Amazon right now, nor will you until some 3rd party seller decides to sell them. Sometimes they're cheaper, sometimes they aren't. There are sellers on Amazon selling the international LTE models, but those are useless to me because they don't work with US LTE bands. What works for you works for you. Pre-ordering works for me. All good.
Also, your example of the VZW Galaxy S5 is pointless in my situation because I don't buy devices on contract. Amazon doesn't compete on full retail price.

They actually don't get the money until the item ships just like any other purchase. You're only reserving a device or place in line if you will. I have to admit thou I enjoy the "privilege" of owning a few days early as most on this site do.

I want to pre-order, but I am going to wait until a few days before the Galaxy Note 4 release. I am hoping there will be a bundle deal with the Phone and Tablet. I will probley buy on the 5th of October so that I an return if a bundle happens.
So, do you have it in hand yet? How bad is the ATT bloat? Samsung bloat is bad enough (I have a Note 10 with a load disabled), but the tablets are nice. I'm waiting on the Nexus 9 for comparison, but interested in an ~8" tab by the end of the year.

Anyone receive their AT&T model yet? Does it have the Snapdragon or Exynos processor?
Mine is due Saturday (tomorrow). Will report back once I get it. I was able to verify that the Sprint Tab S 10.5 has a Snapdragon, though.
It seems like only Sprint/Verizon got the Snapdragon. AT&T lists the Exynos Octa on their website.
Damn.
Got mine yesterday. Can't wait for it to be rooted. It is a quadcore. Not the octocore.
EDIT: I was wrong it is Octo

Now my wifi version is going back to the store
Correction... The application I used to verify was wrong. Did it with CPU-Z... Verified it is the Octocore.

well...the POSSIBLE good news is that the current root method SHOULD still work with the gsm version as well as my SuperSamsung rom. So which ever one of u brave souls will be bold enough to test that please report back with your results....i'm assuming that the phone is disabled which means no calls on the ATT tab as it always is with every other samsung device? If so then i have created a modem thread which MAY help us out with that so once again whoever attempts to root would also need to flash that (link below)....if either of u guys locate an odin package for the ATT version (sprint/verizon too but for other purposes) then PLEASE provide me a link oh and if ANYONE figued out how to get this tablet to flash with heimdall a lil help would DEFINITELY be appreciated. Hopefully we wont run into locked bootloaders on the SM-T707A (could one of u please confirm if this is the correct/exact model number)...if i find out that flashing the brazillian radio will in fact enable voice with LTE bands then i will throw my T705 in the bushes in a heartbeat

^USA LTE & TALK THREAD
I don't think that CDMA has anything to do with it. I think it's more a question of size. The 10.5" LTE Tab S has a Snapdragon while the 8.4" LTE Tab S retains the Exynos. Why? I have no clue. An easy way to see if I'm right would be to see what T-Mobile's 10.5 has when it launches. If it too has a Snapdragon, then I think it's safe to say it's based on size.

AT&T Nexus cost more??

**Warning** Kind of a long read but I'm curious to other peoples thoughts.
Wanted to share my experience today. I went into a Corporate AT&T store planning on upgrading to a 32GB MB Nexus 6 on the Next program. I'm good with it being carrier locked and I'll just remove the AT&T bloatware. I was excited that they had them in stock, however I noticed that the retail price was for $682.99 instead of $649 like Google has it for. I asked the rep and he was surprised and looked it up. I told him that other carriers were selling it for $649 also, and he verified it but couldn't explain it and mentioned that they can't match it either. I asked why do I want to pay like $30 more for it to be carrier locked and have bloatware installed (okay with it but not gonna pay for it).
At home, I called 611 to see if they would match it and see if they knew why. The first rep basically said that was the way it was and didn't really seem interested. The second time I called (I know now maybe I'm crazy but didn't think its right), I asked for their loyalty department cause I know they have more power. The guy there said he was being told that its not ATT but the Manufacture that is dictating the price. I told him that Motorola has it for $649 on their website and it doesn't make sense that they are letting everyone else sell it for one price and making AT&T sell it higher. Told them that I may change carriers if AT&T thinks that its good business practice to charge more then everyone else.
I want to point out that:
1. I was never rude or demanded anything. Just told them that I hope it gets pushed up and corrected.
2. Realize that this is a first world problem and I could just go purchase it from Google or somewhere else but I feel its the principle. Its not right to charge like $30 more and add to the fact that I would have paid higher taxes.
3. They still ended up not matching the price but did offer me a $50 discount off the contract price but told them I didn't want a contract.
The extra cost is for the high quality paint used for the death star logo on the back. (The one that comes off if you stare at it hard enough.)
Actually, I didn't mind the extra 30 for one simple reason: it didn't require waiting 6 to 20 weeks for moto to get stock and ship.
Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
Ha on the paint. I'm still torn. Almost talked myself into going back and just pay for it.
You know what? I just bought a Nexus 6 from AT&T web ordering and I knew it was $30 more than everyone else, but you know what?! AT&T has them in stock and nobody else does!! Get over it. If you don't like it wait until Google has them on their site and then wait some more until they really have it and can send it to you! I had no problem getting mine from AT&T and I really didn't care that it has their logo on it!

Do you going to leave a service because they charge 30 bucks for a device no one got in stock? Sound like a great business strategy for me... They know they can provide it today while others can in weeks. I will advice you go back
Appreciate the feed back. I realize that's it only like 30 bucks but there is also the added cost of paying taxes on 682 instead of 649. Not outrageous but still there. I doubt they are charging higher because they know they have them in stock. Especially when they are late to the game. They had to send their initial batch back. I wonder if this is fair to be who don't realize they are paying more. I noticed the price difference and accept the added cost, I'm okay with it but it's not fair to an unsuspecting customer.
Complain about it on at&t's Facebook page. The first person that contacts you probably won't be alot of help. They will eventually have someone else contact you. This person can help you. They gave me a $100 bill credit. I could have paid the balance of $582.99 plus tax but I chose to do the next 12 plan. So I paid $682.99 in order to do next and the $100 came off my monthly bill.
Well to update. I ended up going back and getting it. Really wanted to check it out and decided it was worth to walk out with it now. I hope its corrected still though. Now to run it through its paces before the 14 days are up. Like it so far. It is my first nexus device.
Mine was 249.99 with the 2 year contract.
$249.99 + $25 per month extra for 24 months = $849.99 + tax and upgrade / activation fees.
Best buy has the at&t n6 for 649 but the sprint n6 is 699 dosent make sense

PSA For Note 7 Owners On JUMP

Hi All,
I called T-Mobile today trying to find out what I can do with my "recalled" Note 7. I had ordered replacements over the phone and today was my last day to carry out the exchange at a store. I've had no problems with the 4 of them in my house. I was denied the exchange for the replacement Note 7 at the store. And somehow was also denied a refund/exchange for a different phone.
On the first try with customer service they connected me with an account specialist. She told me that the phone had been completely pulled from their inventory. As of today, the 10th of October the phone is no longer for sale. Even the replacement Note 7's were recalled. But here's the worst news for everyone who wants to keep the phone. She told me that as part of the recall I had to bring the phone back. I asked her about keeping it then using a JUMP upgrade when a newer phone came out. She informed me that they wouldn't accept the phone for trade in because sales were fully halted and customers have an opportunity to return their device.
So you're pretty much stuck with the phone and unable to have a phone to trade in, should you keep your Note 7. We can of course return the phone for a full refund and get something else. I'm eyeing the S7 Edge for the water resistance and the Micro SD cards I got from Samsung.I really didn't want to let this phone go, but I'm paying for JUMP (the very first one when they started the Uncarrier movement) and would like to be able to trade my phone in for the latest and greatest. I hope this helps you ease our concerns about JUMP and the Note 7.
TL;DR: You can't keep your Note 7 if you plan on upgrading to a new phone on JUMP. They won't accept it as a trade in because they're giving you a "choice" of getting a refund and getting another phone.

Wow, didn't think about that. Not sure what I'm gonna do, however historically I've kept all my Notes (2,3,4). Choices, choices.....hmmm
Wow!
Reps really don't know what they are talking about either.
If I would you, I would screenshot your post and post it to the twitter handle. Tag @JohnLegere and @Tmobilehelp and see if they would comment on this.
I'm not sure about a regular CS representative. But she was an account specialist. They are the ones with the power to make any changes to your account right away. I've had them do it before where a store messed up my JUMP upgrades and changed all the lines to JUMP 2 as opposed to the original JUMP. It took over an hour to get ahold of them that time, but the process was painless as soon as I got on the phone with them. They even credited me the EIP I owed on 4 phones because they were out of my hands and hadn't been processed yet, but the charge was on the bill. It happened again today, I had been credited for 3/4 phones and was still charged an EIP on the 4th phone, despite sending out all 4 of them on the same day. She credited the amount due and my bill was reduced.
I didn't get the Note 7 off of Jump! but if I understand the policy correctly, then this pretty much pays off Jump for you and gets you off the contract, which is great.
Right now you're paying the EIP monthly for the Note 7. Why don't you just pay off the Note 7 completely today, and then return the Note 7 device for the full refund. Doesn't that make you finished with the jump contract and free to get non-carrier phones like the Pixel? It also means you paid less overall since they bought back your first Jump phone for half the price, so you only paid half price for the phone before the note 7 overall which is a great deal.
No idea why that would be a surprise, or a wow moment. T-Mobile doesn't want to have any inventory of a phone they can not, not allowed to sell.
Makes my note 5 all the more the superior device lol.
Add into the fact that JUMP is also INS and if you break it, you're probably NOT going to get a repair. At least it is if you're on the original JUMP program.
This doesnt come as a surprise.
Once they cancel or recall a phone its obvious you cant use it as a JUMP device.

Don't waste your time at the @Tmobile account. I spent six days there getting lied to trying to get assistance on a loaner for the first Note 7 recall. Go right to John Legere's Twitter feed. I got an almost immediate response.
Maybe if his executive staff gets pestered enough, he'll fix his ****ty customer service.
I always got almost immediate answers from @Tmobilehelp .

Has there been any date published on how long we have to exchange it? I purchased one after they went back on sale and was wondering if I'm able to hold on to it until the new LG V20 is released.

Same here. Have this phone for only one day. I will return it ASAP before I get too attached.
If that is indeed the case (per what the OP said), then T-Mobile can't charge you the monthly charge for the Note 7. Which means, when you're ready to JUMP, you won't need to turn anything in.. you just get the new phone and start your new lease. IMO
I had posted a separate thread on this yesterday. Those of us that used JUMP! to upgrade our Note 5 phones are taking it in the shorts here. I had paid off half of that phone, paid $69 for the upgrade to Note 7, Paid a month or so on the Note 7 itself, and now I lose all of that money since I have to get another (non-flagship) phone. If I want to stay on the Note lineup, I have to go back to the Note 5, starting over on payments and losing not only the 12 months of payments, but also the upgrade taxes and fees to go to the Note 7.
Sucks!
Does this apply to JOD also?
so will we get to keep our note 7 for free?!
I tweeted John and TmobileCS said All phones can be returned for a refund including purchased accessories.

from what I was just told apparently not but I was also told the first JUMP! program wont be affected either. You can JUMP whenever you want without a penalty but again different CS different answer
I called about the JOD this morning. We switched to T-Mobile in January and I had the Note 5, then went to the S7 Edge when it came out, then went to the Note 7 (back to an S7 edge and back to the new and improved explosive Note 7). I want to get this turned in because it has got hot a couple of time while charging. However I want the V20 so I wanted to make sure that if I go in now and get the V10 that I will still be able to Jump to the V20 when the pre order comes out next week. I was told there will be no issue with that, at this point T-Mobile just wants their customers safe. So I am heading in after work to switch out our two Note 7s for V10's and then pre ordering V20's next week.

Will T-mobile let us keep the note 7 for free?

Will they let us keep it and refund us and make us eligible for an upgrade, like some Verizon customers have stated?
My mother always told me (nothing in life is free) lol

Let you keep it AND refund you? Not very likely. And since every Note 7 in the field is a litigation ticking time bomb, I doubt they'd want you to keep it either.
I've railed about T-Mobile's horrible customer service throughout this ordeal. But the fact is: T-Mobile is the middle man here. Morally speaking they hold an obligation to their customers. Legally, not so much. That said, I don't see them doing much that Samsung won't reimburse them for.

Verizon isn't letting you keep the phone.. they're telling you to ship it to Samsung and letting Samsung be responsible for the return of devices. If owners decide to keep it, then I'm not sure what happens after that but I'm pretty sure it won't be a free phone.

I just checked T-Mobile and Verizon's website. Their instructions are pretty much identical. Bring the phone to the store for either an exchange or refund. It's not surprising that Verizon is more ****ed up about what to do than T-Mobile is.
http://www.samsung.com/us/note7recall/
Found this out at a TMO store when the first recall happened. IF your Note 7 was "lost or stolen" you'd have to pay the $175 deductible BUT that deductible went towards the cost of the replacement phone...let that sink in for a minute. Of course your "lost or stolen" phone would be blacklisted on the Tmo Network.
This was only for the Note 7.
BTW if you damaged or damage your Note 7, you do NOT have to pay an insurance fee due to the recall. You get a Get Out Of Jail Free card with this one.

That's old news buddy... Verizon is giving instant refunds and removing phones off customers accounts having Samsung responsible for retreating phones.

Then maybe Verizon should update their website. I take that as their official word over whatever some flunky customer service rep says.
. Every t mobile Customer should have their EIP closed so it's a free phone yes.... o Checked my t mobile online account today and it says that I paid off my EIP. Called the customer rep and she told me I don't have any EIP. Now it's time for some rooting lol

I already updated to the latest firmware, so rooting is out for me if I keep this phone through any eventuality. Oculus disabled the Gear VR, so I can't use that! Then there is always the small but ever present danger this phone could go up in smoke, probably at the worst possible time! What's more, Engadget says production has been 'permanently' halted, so, if true, no hope of a third 'fixed' version! Nothing else out there that I want, so, so depressing!:crying:

Then there's the chance that they'll shut your service off by the IMEI.
Wow, if this true x-mas coming early this year, I can always use tablet and still have my N3 for phone calls, my only regret is updating the phone to latest firmware (seems I can't learn this lesson, don't fix it if it ain't broke, updates are mostly not for my benefit), I wish I could root it now, more than ever. If I was rooted I could change IMEI to one of my older phones, I'm such an idiot for updating.
Nope, but I can confirm they let you keep EVERYTHING it came with. Just swapped mine for the S7edge again. They gave me the pen as a keepsake...lol, and didn't want the box or anything else.
LOL

Not mine. It still showing up on my account.
Eip still showing up on mine too...i dont want a refund lol I want my note 7 with future updates and support. This blows. I really hate downgrading. T mobile did tell me there isn't a time frame for a return/refund. So I'm keeping it at least until the beginning of the year or given a time limit. I also heard they are releasing the s7 edge in blue coral. I make swap the note 7 out for that if we can't keep these notes for free (which I doubt)
but if the phone is lost or stolen, are they going to charge you full price for it? all those returned phones should be going to landfill and I'm not sure they will be paying for shipping back to Samsung, which could be dangerous all by itself. Also, I'm not a lawyer but if they keep charging you for the phone, they keep the sale of the phone valid and possibly liability attached to that sale. If the sale is void and you're instructed to return the phone either to Samsung or Tmo store, then I would think liability would shift to person not following the instructions? I don't know, but we will see soon. I also don't think there should be a time limit, so what happens if I return the phone 6 months from now? In 10 months we should have Note 8 (or whatever rebranding they come up with). I'm going to wait and see, I think I have higher chance of getting injured by texting distracted driver than my phone catching fire and I wouldn't even dream of not driving anymore.

I so agree i am torn to stay with samsung or maybe try the new LG V20 but no other phone out there says damn i need to have that like the Note 7, I am thinking of going to the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge or just back to Note 5 because at this point i got the Gear fit 2 the Gear VR and the 256gig card was just shipped so best bet is just to stay with Samsung and wait till something better comes out.

I've had exceptional customer service with them through this ordeal. The local store wouldn't refund me for my LED case or Seidio case since it wasn't purchased from their store. I made a call to T-Mobile and told them I wasn't pleased with the experience and was credited on my bill for the two cases - just asked me how much I paid for them.

Ordering through best buy with trade in

Anyone know the correct steps to ordering a Verizon note 8 on best buy and getting the full trade in allowance? I'm not sure if I am suppose to pre order on best buy first then go to Verizon's site and get the $480 bill credit. I went through the process of pre ordering on Verizon's site and was offered the $480 but it's cheaper on best buy. Any help would be appreciated.
Wondering the same thing but with Sprint

Wondering if those of us in the UK will be getting any discount deals too, as I'd like to finally upgrade off my old note-3 having had the initial note-7 and then its replacement on the first recall and then of course that also got recalled. Not heard any news to say UK/Eur would get any sort of loyalty offer yet...
Anyone know how to get the trade in of $425 for trading in a Note 7? I thought I read that you have to do that direct through Samsung, but so far have not found a place to do so.

I don't know best buys deal - or any deals, I haven't looked yet. I will buy direct through Samsung IF they actually give me $425 for my Note 7. Often there is fine print and ways they can wiggle you down on what they actually give you for a trade in. So until I know for sure that I can get $425 for my Note 7 on a trade in for the Note 8, I am not doing anything. Although my Note 7 is not usable as a phone, just a smaller wifi tablet at this point.

just got done speaking with Samsung. here is the link to check your eligibility. I did qualify, they basically say the trade in has to be almost perfect, no cracks, black lists, powers on, good software. I think they should offer it through the carriers.
here is the link. not sure how long the promo is, they didn't have an expire date when I asked. I still think I may wait a little to see if they offer it in blue

Anyone willing to scan a note 7 receipt. I'm eligible for the loyalty promo by email, but I don't have any receipt docs from my original TMobile in store buy.

Thanks. I have already pre-ordered the Note 8. I did use the $425 trade in program. You cannot trade in a Note 7 if you have one, but you can trade in many other kinds of phones. I thought that a bit odd as I thought the point was for them to get N7's OUT of the hands of people still using them somehow (I haven't had mine activated since early February).
I am trading my S7E in, which I bought mint, but used back in early February to take the place of my soon to be deactivated Note 7. I paid $275 for it back in February, so that is a good ROI on the phone, which has just been sitting in a drawer since April. It has been my backup phone and is in very good condition (almost mint). I am currently using an S8+ but I will keep that as my backup phone most likely. Again, thanks for the info and link!

Someone on another thread contacted samsung about there note 7 and they are giving them a full refund for the note 7
I guess I order through best buy. Then go to Verizon's site to get the $480 bill credit which will put my bill at just under $13 a month. Tomorrow I'm going to call and double check before I pull the trigger. I wonder if Sammy would take S8+ for a trade in?
