Note 7's Iris Scanner & Light Sensor Stopped Working... - T-Mobile Note 7 Questions & Answers

I finally received my preorder Note 7 on Thursday 18th Aug, was very excited to try the Iris scanner but unfortunately it stopped working after setup/transferring everything from Note 4 to Note 7 and also realized that the phone doesn't have auto brightness check box in quick setting or in settings->Display. So did a factory reset hoping to get Iris and brightness sensor to work but
no luck.
So I called T-Mobile about the issue, she told me to call Samsung. Called Samsung explained everything to the Samsung Rep, he said he is gonna put me on hold and phone got disconnected plus he didn't call me back even though he asked for me number in case of disconnect.
when i called the second time the samsung rep told me to take the phone to Best Buy for Samsung Experience Consultant to REFLASH the Firmware. I asked her if she can send me the firmware so i could flash it myself, she said No it has to be a Secure Flash.
Today i took the phone to Best Buy and samsung consultant check the phone and saw that Iris is keep failing when he tried to Setup it up so he connect it to his Laptop to flash but unfortunately the phone would register with his laptop so he couldn't do anything and told me to have T-Mobile replace the phone since it is defective.
Called T-Mobile after going through all that BS. TMO Rep told me since the phone is on JOD I'd have to return the phone by Mail and wait till they receive the phone then i can go to a T-Mobile store and buy a new Note 7.
I love the phone but all this BS makes me not to get another Note 7 after i return this defective one on Monday.
UPDATE:
Returned the defective Note 7 and bought another one from the store. this one is working fine and No issues yet. Thank God.
And it will probably take weeks till i get refund for the defective one that i returned...

I am sorry if you got a defective unit. Just be aware that T-mobile does treats this as RMA, which in this case, they will process it as a return, then they would send a new one. If I am you, I would return it, then get one from the store. If you had any issues escalate the issue because it's certainly not your fault and they should be faster!

man that sucks. I normally dont have to go through all that if i need a replacement. They send me out another phone and i put mines in that box and return it.
But i would try a full reset from the boot menu.
Once you done that add your patten then reboot.
Then try the iris scanner.
Also have you try to use odin yourself to see if the phone get detected?

I couldn't find the Firmware that time to odin it myself. I tried to Smart switch's device initialization and it asked me for model and serial but no firmware available to download.
I did factory reset from Recovery and from setting but didn't help.
it was definitely hardware failure not software.

My Note just got stolen, help login out of everything.

I just got my Note stolen a few hours ago, I am so pissed right now, but hey what can I do... I live in Nicaragua, so no warranty and no police claim will get it back for me...
Tomorrow I will call my carrier and see if I can block my phone through IMEI number so the son of a **** that stole it cannot use it...
I never kept my gps enabled unless I was using it so no tracking software will be able to track my phone, I already blocked my number with my carrier so I guess there is not much I can do to track it, but I would like to sign out of everything on my phone, and I was just wondering if I changed passwords on every service installed on my phone would the theif still be able to login if I had checked the "remember me" or "stayed logged in" options?
Thanks,

Try to install plan b from the market. You can install it remotely from Google play using a web browser and should be able to get the GPS coordinates of your phone providing the thief has not removed your Google account. Do it asap to increase your chances.
+1 Good idea, However The phone will need to have internet access to receive the remote download.
Dont suppose you had Lookout installed ?? On my device it is un-installable, and i can remotely turn GPS on / off, Track the phone, Wipe everything, Lock the device, and even make the phone scream !! (useful for when you are tracking and a close enough to hear it)
I hope you get it back !!
Changing the password won't let the thief use any of the services you have logged into. The app should request him for the new password. Do it ASAP!
I feel for you man! Had my iPod touch, Optimus 2X and Galaxy SII stolen!

first of all sorry you, that's one of the worst things that can happen to a phone.
if you think the theft is using your phone only with a different simcard you have the following options:
- try planb (as already mentioned above) to locate your phone.
- if you have a google account on the phone, try android lost that will gain you the full control over the phone including locating it, taking photos of the cameras and wiping the complete data of the device out. its a really great tool .
- if you have a Samsung account on your phone, try the samsung dive website with this you can also do things like locating or wiping data view call logs and so on.
if all the above fail you should change the passwords of all your accounts used on the phone, especially the email accounts. also try to contact your provider, really few of them provide a location service based on the imei number of the device. and also some of them offer the service to put the device's imei number to a ban list so the phone is useless at all because it cant login in to the gsm network.
*EDIT*: go to the police and let them give you a document that the phone is stolen, and the imei and serial numbers. give this document to samsung and they will put the device to a blacklist, so the device wont get service/support/repair anymore.
i hope some of this become useful to you
Best thing would be to:
1- Track it (with the app said above) or with Samsung Dive!
2- Find the perp
3- Beat him with a cow bone
4- Retrieve the phone
5- Send it to me for inspection
Hi guys, thanks for your help, I installed Plan B a few hours after the OP, but still no email...I would gladly beat the crap out of the theif, but I fear I won't see my note again, I have already ordered another one, this time I will install every tracking anti theft app available...
Anyhow, after this, I installed Lookout on my Girlfriends Note, and tried out the tracking, the tracking is not that accurate, it positions the phone within a 2 Km radius...any other app that would be more accurate?
Thanks,
Im using avast and i have to say its working well, it has a ton of features, you can make mobile data persistent with a single text making tracking that bit more accurate
combine it with the screaming feature of lookout and you should be able to hear it if you are close enough.
Try samsung dive
http://www.samsungdive.com
Lol samsung dive will dissapear when factory reset

Little late for the original poster but Cerberus is a nice app too. I got in on a free promotion. I have it activated and don't even think about till I get an email saying that I changed my sim. You can remotely hide the app, wipe phone/sdcard have a login screen pop up appear, record video and or audio and map in real time.
Even though I think tracking your kids is creepy, I can see how some parents would love to install it on their kid's phone.
Thanks again for all the info, I will try all these once my new phone gets here.
I have a question though, all of these tracking apps need data connection on the cel phone's side...correct? What if the theif turns off data connection? Is there one that works with only GPS?
Well in avast, you can remotely activate data network even if the thief switches it off, It also has stealth mode where it hides all traces of being installed.
If you are rooted it can even withstand a factory reset.

I've used GPS trakcing with data off before ...it will track you even if the map does not render...afterwards when you get connectivity the map will be displayed along with your tracking info.
GPS don't requires data connection thogh, tracking won't work without data connection.
GPS fix the position without data connection, but for tracking you need to pass that information to server, which needs data connection.

S5 Messaging (Just not receiving some NOT ONLY IPHONE) FIX

Well to all you out there with a Verizon Galaxy S5 I hope you haven't been stuck with this issue. If you have well I might be able to help.
I have been searching for 4 days straight trying to find anything that might help....EVERYTHING I found was useless.
Description of problem:
I would have a conversation with someone and then all the sudden about 5 or so messages in I would not get a response. After thinking that the person or persons did not want to talk anymore I came to the conclusion later that the one I was messaging said I was the one who didn't respond. I did see on their phone that they replied. YET I DIDNT GET IT. This has gone on with people for 2 weeks in my case. THIS IS NOT TALKING ABOUT THE IPHONE MESSAGING PROBLEM.
This I tried but a NO-GO:
1. Factory Reset.
2. Rooting/Putting Custom Recovery On
3. Using the Recovery to Wipe Cache/Fix Permissions
4. Accidentally Bricked My S5......Used Odin to ReFlash 4.4.2 Stock.
5. Started from the ground up. Back to out of the store condition. NO WARRENTY VOID
6. Went to the store I got it from (Cellular Sales Authorized Verizon Retailer)....They knew less than I did. (Hire me PLZ)
IN THE END:
Nothing made sense....Everything had been tampered with and no change what-so-ever.....It has to be Communication from the towers to the phone.
Here is the FIX that so far has worked. Only been a couple hours of testing:
I called VZW Tech Support. First Tier didn't know. Transferred up the ladder....Second Tier did some testing and told me this....He needed to reset the connection the towers had with the SIM Card. To let him do that and then turn my phone off, take the SIM Card out and leave it out for 2 Min. When he did, I was able to text 3 of the people that I was able to message...but had a few not received, and they all went through. Only way to truly know is at the end of the day after more messages.
So don't go crazy and try everything like I did. See if the Tech Support can reconnect the SIM Card for you. :good: :highfive:

Possible modem failure.T-mobile was not immediately helpful

Much to my dismay, I think device is dead, bit I was more wondering if anybody else has run into this at all. To preface I'm currently traveling in Europe, phone worked fine from the 17th of October. I have the International Data and every thing was peachy till last night when it stopped associating to the cellular network. I had been using wifi calling to home till I started getting the red wifi calling icon saying invalid sim. I started looking at settings and noticed APN settings we gone and it couldn't search for networks.
I tried restarting, puling sim, then I tried a factory wipe, ultimately culminating in the pictures attached below. I also attached a picture of the bootloader for added info.
I called into T-mobile, 5 representatives and an hour and a half later was told that the only way that I was going to get a replacement is to go return it to the store where I processed my pre-order, and that needs to be done within 14 days. I'm going to try today to see if Samsung can do anything for me, but this seems more of a hardware failure that should be covered by the manufactured warranty.
I do have JUMP but I don't feel I should have to pay the deductible for this.
:TLDR:
I've not rooted, flashed or other wise modded my phone, anybody else run into this?

If you traveling I think phone needs an unlock code and a different Sim card. WiFi calling probably just updated it self and kicked you off.

You don't need a new sim to travel with. I've used my sim and carrier many times in UK and Germany with out issue, you just get to pay a premium for roaming.
If I wanted to use a local carrier and then the local rates, then I need to be unlocked and then a local carriers sim.

Galaxy Note 5 rooted device No SIM Error

Hi,
I have got a galaxy note 5 on craigslist, Seller assured me that it's a factory unlocked phone. After purchase i did factory reset and started using it with my T-Mobile Sim.
It worked as expected for 3 weeks and then one day i lost my data connectivity, To resolve the issue i did factory reset and i got my SMS services stopped.
Next Factory reset stopped recognizing my SIM Card. And now in Mobile network i can see only LTE/CDMA option, earlier it was showing multiple options and i was using GSM.
I was not aware that phone was rooted and i called samsung repair and send my phone to Samsung for repair. After reviewing the phone Samsung is saying that Phone is rooted and they will not repair it, and they returned it without repair. It seems i have been cheated by seller in craigslist and now he is not responding.
I am not a mobile developer and i have not done rooting of this phone Also i have not done rooting ever in my life.
Now i want my phone to be back in business, Please help. I have Samsung kies installed in my Laptop.
Hardware version :N920P.03
Model Number : SM-920P
Thanks in advance,
Kapil
I would say that since it worked with no problem for three weeks, you really can't fault the person in Craigslist. It sounds like it may have a hardware issue - I would suggest you buy a new motherboard and replace it. Look on YouTube - there are videos on how to do same
did you see efs imei folder. if entering dial *$06# imei showing?

Likelihood of Warranty Exchange

Hi all,
Have a question for you. Bought a used S8 off of a guy on the internet awhile back. Phone worked fine for a few weeks, but now has developed a problem where it claims no service and as such there is no data/calling/texting. Factory resets sometimes do or don't fix this issue. If it is fixed with a reset, it reoccurs within some hours. I have sent this in five times to Samsung. It has been out of my possession for weeks and weeks with the constant shipping back and forth. It is currently being shipped back to me. I assume in a not-fixed state. The service center people can't replicate the issue because it magically doesn't occur when they run their suite of tests on the device. As a result, they literally do nothing to the phone and also won't replace it. What is the chance I could go into a T-Mobile store and have it replaced? Thanks for your time.

Normally in order for T-Mobile to exchange the unit, they would need to access the original buyer's account and see the warranty status. I first thought your phone's IMEI could have been blocked by T-Mobile, but you mention that after factory reset it works sometimes. Use T-Mobile's IMEI checker website and see what it shows you. https://www.t-mobile.com/verifyIMEI.aspx If you phone is unlocked, try another sim card, from another provider such as AT&T.

I was just assuming it wasn't blocked since it works on and off, but yeah, that site is telling me it is blocked on their network. Thanks. Guess this was a complete waste of money.

I believe there is a chance that T-Mobile might unblock it depending on why it was blocked in the first place.
