Root and Cyanogenmod - Huawei P9 Questions & Answers

Hi all! I recently got a Huawei P9 vodafone branded (L09C02B123) and I am very happy with it. I wanted to ask if there is a safe unlock bootloader and root guide for this version or do I have to de-brand it? And if I wanted to unroot the device can I go back to the vodafone version as it first was? And since I don't like the MIUI software (the only downside) when will the CM 13 roll out to the device?
Thanks

Hi.
Please download the SRK Tool. It can do almost anything you need on your phone.
Wrt the custom ROM, you asked, unfortunately we only have one custom ROM and one slim ROM atm.
What i did was, root, debloat the ROM myself, flash a 3rd party launcher, and flash the L Speed app from Play store.

Thanks for the answer. Your method is smart but do you know when Cyanogenmod will be launched?

Cyanogen Mode is quite different from stock version of the p9 software or variants of it. Drivers would be a great issue in that way. Since the Kirin 955 processor is relatively new and not as common as Quallcom's Snapdragon, there would be a long long way to see a Cyanogenmod for our p9s.
However it is a job for ambition and determination. So, who knows maybe one of the great developers around will take a step forward

Hi guys again, I remember I am running the EVA-L09C02B123 which is a vodafone branded version. Can I root this version? I heard that you need to de-brand it first. Is it true?

You can root it without de-branding but you must unlock the bootloader first. That's going to trigger a factory reset, so back up your stuff.

ya. It is said jb is rootable. But as for 234-000 you are unlucky.
Root
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2180688
you can try og lockscreen too.
Ok thanks I am now rooted
Can I not Unlock bootloader/install custom recovery etc?
Or change to EUR rom and do it??
Thanks again!!!!
now is unlocking useless for normal users ...because no custom roms / custom kernels .
LG released the soucecode this morning. So now its only a bit of waiting before the first custom roms will be released.

So I can unlock using LG official and put CWM on now or not?
Sorry about all the Q's , EVERYother phone I have bought has had a great modding community with guides everywhere so this is a bit unusual to me

Not until you unlock your bootloader which, until they find a way to do it, can't be done in the 234-000 version.
Also, there are guides in this community, you just have to look for them (e.g. in the General Forum or the Development one). There you could have found answers for your doubts, as well as other people trying to get around the bootloader issue (there's even a thread dedicated to 234-000 users, and another for 262-000 owners).
Now we just wait my friend!

Well going by the fact that you have 234-000 You might not be able to unlock your boot loader as of yet.
There are 2 users that i know of from the UK that have unlocked their boot loader. I have tried and and tried again.
LG's Open source team have told me and a few other forum members that 234-000 and 262-000 are both unlockable.
The best bet is to wait for AGBRBK V20A... Which is the UK build of 20A.
Its just a waiting game. :good:

[Q] Custom ROM + Fully Rooted.

Hey,
I would like some help from you guys.
It's been a while since I put a custom rom on my previous phone.
So if possible I would like a comprehensive explanation.
Right now I have Emui 3.1 installed on my P7 L10.
I would like to install a custom rom but I'm not sure I got my bootloader unlocked.
If possible I would like to know how to unlock the bootloader and install a custom rom with full root.
I did some research already on the internet but all the explanations are so short.
The rom I want to have installed on my P7 L10 is the following:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/ascend-p7/development/rom-rom-v3-1-emui-3-0-t2977409
I hope someone want to help me with this.
Greetings,
Jornie

I'm afraid you will not be able to install that rom, since it is meant for emui 3.0 not 3.1
The only working custom ROM for lollipop is the Miui rom and that's it. All the other Roms are based on kitkat.

Isn't it possible to downgrade from 3.1 to 3.0?
And even if my bootloader is locked to 2.3??

It is possible and there are many guides out there which tell you how to unlock your bootloader. Just don't try to flash that rom while on lollipop.

I know, but I think the guides are not detailed enough of the download links are not working.
Just ignore that it says b805, because it works with all of lollipop firmwares.

thank you, but my phone was bricked but i fixed it thanks again
How did you fix it and which version ur running...plz I need help
I just got my phone, a VKY-L09 and its running B195 ...
I only seem to see B123 to latest B160 in stock firmware available.
I even tried using the aforementioned firmware finder.
Further, it seems that most of the roms (custom or otherwise) are biased on firmware many versions older.
I really want to root my phone but without a stock solution to flash I'm reluctant to do so.
Anyone have B195 stock or know where to find it?

It's because we're using the Canadian ( and probably be American) variant. Our build number is higher, but European builds are better. Try anything that's L09 B160, battery should improve

Thanks, I took your advice and downloaded a B162 build as a stock solution.
Took the plunge and my phone is now TWRP - Rooted with some small tweaks.
(Made a backup of my Rogers rom)

I highly recommend the Genesis ROM by @Blackball , it's really great.
It's what I'm using for now until I can get a working AOSP build created. Hopefully soon, I've been making progress

It seems I screwed up my data partition in my system and cant get the phone to make calls or the camera to work. Not even my backups get things working again.
Was thinking that If I need to flash stock or redo my phone fm scratch, may as well flash Genesis.
Can I just format data, wipe everything and flash the rom even on 192 base?
Or do I have to de-brand and install the 160 base to flash Genesis rom?

You can but he recommends rebranding to European L29. If I still had any FunkyHuawei credits left I'd hook you up but I've already used them

International version - Should I flash official china ROM and relock the bootloader?

Hi all!
Loving my new device!
I bought it from Gearbest and it's the International version that came with an unlocked bootloader and the Official Global ROM installed (no idea how they unlocked the bootloader).
Just after I booted it for the first time I got the official update to MIUI 10 and everything went perfectly.
My question is: should I reflash the official China ROM and relock the bootloader just to be able to unlock it again on my own? What's the advantage of doing it since it's already unlocked and with an official ROM?
Is it safer? Can I be in trouble in the future if I don't do it?
Sorry for asking this basic question, but this is a new ecosystem for me.
Cheers!

How to update Huawei Mate 20 With Locked Bootloader

Hello guys,
I saw on the forum of the M20P that there's a tool used to update the device using a locked BL.
I wanted to know if anyone of you tried this, and if yes, can you tell us the result
I really don't know if this method could actually works on our device...
There's the thread link : https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-20-pro/how-to/manual-upgrading-mate-20-pro-bl-locked-t3905924
Thks guys for your help with the community :fingers-crossed:
I'll answer to myself,
I tested the method just above, and yes I managed to update my M20 to 9.0.0.237
I followed this tutorial video : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bp4k3uFDxf4 , and i used the tool listed on the thread I linked in OP.
There's a screenshot of my phone showing the version and the security patch I have now.
For the next updates, you have the choice guys, you can use Firmware Finder app on the playstore or use this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-20/how-to/guide-manual-updating-firmware-t3892686.
BTW, thx to @OldDroid and @mikeos for their amazing job
I have HMA-L09 (single SIM) C432E10R1P16
Vodafone brand on the box, but software is unbranded, no vodafone crap stuff nor bootlogo, infact is C432
Just after turning on after hard reset I saw something branded, but 100% uninstallable
So, should I upgrade with this method, I'll definitely get rid of brand? and will I lose my data?
Of course I have locked BL, I used to have rooted phone since my first Android 2.1, so sad
