How does Android N work on N6? - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, guy. Did anyone updated to Nougat? How does it work? Are the any critical bugs? Does all apps work well?

Of course there are bugs because it's a beta.I have been using it since it was released and I love Android N.

I asked only about critical bugs, I know few minor bugs, like duplicates of icons in status bar.

The final version of N hasn't been released for the Nexus 6 yet but I've been running DP5 as my daily driver since it was released and I haven't found any major issues. I haven't even had the duplicate icon issue you mentioned. I only have one app that crashes on the developer preview but the app developer has indicated he is aware of the issue and is working on fixing it. Overall, my experience with N (the developer preview) has been very positive and I expect that to continue with the release version when it comes out.

I concur with this guy. As long as there is no major changes from DP5 to full release this source is very stable. Hopefully a new radio to rule them all lol

I did not enroll my N6 until I had been running DP5 on my other devices with no ill effects. I downloaded DP5 on 8/10 and even though my other devices updated to Android 7.0 on 8/22 I I'm still waiting for the N6 to update.
I am having zero problems with DP5 on my N6.

Mine is running like a champ, no issues or force closes here...

I wonder if the official 7.0 will have the color changes as well. Cause on DP5...I do not see it in the tuner. I do like the DPI changes. I may not root for Android N

There is no OTA release for the Nexus 4. The Nexus 4 will ship with Android 4.2. (For phones, it seems like a minor release of bugfixes and minor improvements + photo sphere). Maybe you're posting about the Nexus 10 or 7?

The 13th Google is releasing a new revision of 4.2 (4.2.1 perhaps?). Its just a bug fix update from the current N4 4.2.
I thought it was for those that had the N4 for review purposes. If I recall correctly those phones dont have 4.2 or it's like a 4.2 beta version of it.
They have 4.2, but lock screen and multi user not enabled and also presumably some optimization libs missing. We don't know which version of 4.2 will be shipped to us, but its highly possible we will have an update pop up the first second we open our phone.
The ota is already rolling out. Engadget has some screenshots.

like i said, was hoping they get some benchmarks or reviews in before release

New Android 4.4.3 Update Build KTU72B Under Testing

While most Android devices are still waiting on the update to*Android 4.4.2 KitKat, Google is apparently testing 4.4.3 already, under the build number KTU72B. This information comes courtesy of renowned developer LlabTooFeR, but there is no further info on what new features the update is likely to bring.
One of the bug fixes gets mentioned, though - LlabTooFeR writes that "probably it will fix known camera bug." Said issue could very well refer to the problem in*Nexus 5*handset. Users observed a pretty significant increase*in CPU usage when the camera application is operational, which puts unwarranted stress on the system, and its battery endurance.*Google quickly promised a fix for the Nexus 5 camera bug, allegedly coming with the next Android update, so that could be it.*
There are no details yet on eventual extra enhancements and fixes that the Android 4.4.3 KitKat update will bring to devices in general. Perhaps we will know as soon as the next few weeks, as we doubt Google will wait for the*I/O conference in June*to release a fix for the camera issue in Nexus 5.

Oh snap, it means I have to revert my phone back to 4.4.2 stock again. So soon after the 4.4.2 update, too. At the very least I hope it's a worthy update.
hopefully there will be HDR+ camera for Nexus 4 like Nexus 5. ART optimization will be wonderful thing (also for me myself).

Like the fingerprint states: 4.4.3 is definitely a thing in testing.
What it doesnt say is when/who will get it.
Fingerprints on chromium are concrete evidence that something does definitely exist, but not that we'll actually get it.
(chromium devs get access to builds that never get released)

Going a bit off topic !! Do you still have access to the .tot files from lg b2b servers since they updated their security ?? I think no one has updated the .tot files for mako or hammerhead after initial 4.4 ( I guess no .tot leaked for 4.4 mako at all )
I do not have files, only filenames.
I can tell you that mako has simply not received any new ones since 4.3 and I would not be surprised if it doesn't receive any more.
The thread is currently up to date with the known public ones for hammerhead, excepting that we do not have every variation of the latest one (KOT49H) (16/32gb D820/821)

The upcoming release of the Android camera app will feature refreshed user interface. Today’s increasingly popular background-blurring, portrait-friendly effect will be on board too, joined by improved panorama and Photo Sphere modes.
Support for third party filters is also said to be present.
Google has also reportedly resolved the photo framing issues of the stock Android camera app. The upcoming update will allow users to capture photos with no-crop viewfinder, which will allow them to see exactly what the final result will be.

Google has other things to do than to focus on a pesky issue. Only a small number of users who know how or willing to tweak their system just to gain LTE.

4.4.3 are just bug fixes for Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 (2013). source: http://www.phonearena.com/news/Andr...to-a-Nexus-5-or-Nexus-7-2013-near-you_id54536
But knowing our devs, it'll probably take less than a week after the code release before all our custom ROMs will be updated using the latest source.
We should be more excited for 4.5 somewhere in June-July along with the Nexus 8.

If we look at the releases order, nexus 7 2012 should be the nexus that loses the support first. But they should increase the time, just look at S2 how many updates has got and it';s not a nexus.
Hope it does come to the N4, as I'm having major BT issues at the moment. Surely the 18months should start at end of production as well?
So no fix for headset microphone volume issues? I know they may ignore us, but considering Nexus 5 having the very same issue, it seems a little bit strange...
I was just stating that it would probably be the excuse from Google. I sure as hell hope our phone will get the update as well. Mine is not even a year old, still got 6months warranty

Last time they made some excuse regarding Ti/OMAP processor. This time being a snapdragon thats also used in Nexus 7, I don't see any reason for non release of update. We should all in fact assume we will get the official update. Google need to look at Apple's support of old devices like iPhone 4 and get a damn clue.

Yeah, they should gimp the update, not include new features, and make the phone laggy. That's totally what Google should do.
No thanks. I'd rather get no update(or just get unofficial updates via ROMs) than get an official update that bogs the phone down.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk
Yeah, now the difference it's just a higher frequencies to make a equality between the higher resolutions and a little bit faster memory. We should definetly lose the support at the same time with nexus 7 2013 which has the same processor on a higher resolution which means worse performance in games especially. They have no excuse now ....

That is a clocked down Snapdragon 600. I suspected the 18 months period might have been the reason to go with this one internally instead of the S4 Pro.
Worst case is still that they keep the ancient linux because Qualcomm's mess is so huge they don't have a chance to support a newer kernel. But it might happen because the S4 Pro is in so many devices.

That was ICS to JB this is still lollipop, i dont know if that makes a difference though.
Besides bug fixes and minor tweaks, i don't foresee anything that Android could come out with that would blow my mind.
Everything that could be done with a rom seems to have been accomplished. Now it's all just fancy bells and whistles on who can look prettier.
hope bug fixes

Silent mode added after missing on Android 5.0
General improvements in system stability
Improved RAM management
Fixes for sudden app closures
Improved battery management
Excessive consumption of network devices when used Wi-Fi fixed
Issues with wireless connections fixed
Problems with Okay Google function solved
Notifications problems solved
Some sound problems experience by certain devices fixed
Other improvements and changes
Changes in the Material Design color palette (after users complaints, possibly for a higher version though)

::edit:: these are rumors and not actual changes. Sorry. Silent mode is up in the air.
I'll be happy with some RAM/Battery management, but I doubt it comes too soon since we haven't got 5.0.2 yet.
As you can see 5.0.2 it´s only for tablets....
Definitely looking forward to ram & battery improvements!
Wooooow! I can't wait!
i can't wait. i hope it also fixes the gps issues that 5.0 brought to my phone (as well as a few others). I've had to roll back to kk for now
I expect a better manage for battery, since I have android 5.0.1 it consumes a lot of energy and drains my battery
Still waiting on the Camera2 API being put to use. I Wonder if this will be the first step before an update to the Google Camera app
Is there any clue as to when 5.1 could arrive? Now the news is in the open and the software seems operational, would it be a matter of days, weeks or months to arrive on Nexuses...?

Sadly i don't think 5.1 brings any fix to memory leak and battery life. cos from 4.4.4 to 5.0 brings no improvements except material design. i don't want to rise my expectations cos i don't want big dissapointments.

Google-ish N build

So, it's quite possible that our much beloved Nexus 5 doesn't receive final Android N, afterall.
In that case, I was wondering it anyone would be interested in providing a custom N build, with no changes, compared to Google's own build.
I mean, ODEX, non-zipaligned, no root, nothing. Just stock like stock Google software.
I'd pay for this.
Is it possible for someone to create a ZIP that can be sideloaded in the default recovery?

When the final release is out, it's pretty safe to say that someone will make a build for the Nexus 5. Until then, there is nothing devs can do right now. Google currently doesn't have everything available to do so.
Yes, I know.
I'm talking about the future, after N is uploaded to AOSP.
I know there will be lots of ROMs, but I just wanted stock Google software, no root, theme, anything.
Basically, an unofficial Google OTA.
I'm willing to pay for this, and I can gather many people to join this cause.
probably Google will release android N to Nexus 5, but its the last official release to it. Just like Nexus 4 on Lollipop era, was pretty the same thing.
How is that surprising they want you to buy the next device so if they drop support look at it this way you can always install a ROM and I'm confident you will see something up fast

Nop, Google won't release the Android N for Nexus 5, as they dropped the support for newer releases in October 2015. But of course that as soon as the source code is out we'll get the update because the devs will take care of that

Since you aren't clairvoyant I'll wait to see. The N7 2013 got MM but if you go by the date listed on googles site they stoped officially supporting it in July of 2015. And if not, eh.. There will be tons of N roms once its released. Most likely day one.

We all know there will be lots of ROMs.
But the purpose of this thread, is to get to know if any developer would like to provide a stock "Google" equivalent, for those that want their N5 to feel like it's been updated by Google itself.
I'll sure try, especially if there is money on the line lol
I won't make any promises, but I'll gladly take a look when the source gets out if I still have the device.
I've been reading stuff on Reddit, and many people would appreciate this "Google experience" ROM.

No it is not officially over, nothing on that page confirms it is officially over. Only the ''Guaranteed" support is over for the Nexus 5.
That doesn't mean it won't get Android N, I think the chance for a official release of Android N for the N5 is really small but there's still a chance it will get it.
Till the final release of Android N is out no one knows anything for sure if it comes to the future of the N5.

I know he used to do it for the N5, pretty sure I've seen his builds for a few other phones as well. That was his thing. When a new Android OS comes out he usually releases a stock / AOSP build. Non rooted, no mods, etc. I'm not sure if he's still around though, but it can't hurt to ask.

Looking at the history of ROMs in the past here on XDA, there is usually always someone who ports a pure AOSP build with no mods. I wouldn't worry about it much. Especially this early.
I hope so.
Not really into modding/rooting/whatnot.
A stock Google-ish ROM for me, and I'll be happy.
Dont worry man.. Nexus 5 is still pretty popular phone and dev friendly so IMHO you shouldn't be worried at all.. There is i believe 99% chance u will have Android n, just be patient for a couple of months when the Android n will be officially released
