Now, I'm not using any of the stock ringtones. I'm using MP3's that I've been using now for years and they are stored on the sdcard.

I have the same issue.

I have had to change my ring tone everyday and no mater what it seems like the next call i get its set back to the damn t-jingle

I have this problem too....I wonder if this is linked to the theme engine? Some themes have custom ringtones/alerts etc...does this happen only after rebooting?

Resetting back to stock ringtone happens to me as well, every time after rebooting the phone. It's a good observation that this could be due to the Theme, I have Blue Coral color, so I use Blue Coral theme from EiD.

I wonder if this is related to the fact that I can't set specific tones for SMS per person. It uses the default that I set but ignores the address book entries. Is this because they are ogg files?

I can confirm this happening to my first note 7, possibly with the update it was fixed because that no longer happens.

I found that a regular factory reset through system settings didn't do the trick to solve this problem. I did like 3 resets. What did work was doing a clear data through the recovery. Did that once and not a problem since. Try it, it may work for you.

Damn I'm starting to have this issue. Any solutions?

Volume question on stock ICS

Hi, as I heard that the ringtone sound and the notification sound are linked default on ICS. But mine didnt, any way to set it please? Thanks.

Same on mine (and also on S2 ICS builds i noticed).
For some reason Samsung have changed the default ICS behaviour of linked Ringer and Notification volumes, and split them...but not given us a tick box to link them if we want.
There are many apps out there written for ICS that can split the volumes, but we need one that links them! Audio Manager for example which did a great job for me on GB, doesnt give the option on Samsung ICS to link (because ICS is SUPPOSED to be linked).
I find it annoying that turning my volume down by the rockers leaves my notifications blasting out at 100%.
Is there some kind kind dev in here that could write an app (or hack) to relink the volumes? Please. Pretty please.
Installed an app called "quick settings". once installed, the volume of my notification and my ringtones linked automaticlly. So sad that the only function useful of the app. Wasting space but no choice.

After you installed this, you do the volume +- in the app, it will +- your both ringtone and notification alart tone at the same time. Cant do the +- with the physical key though. Still this is the best way i can find so far.

Screen randomly getting dim

I have auto brightness off, auto adjust screen tone off and brightness set to max. My screen randomly dims and then gets bright again...anyone know what's causing this?
sEnt from thE noTe 3
Hmm is it this adapt display option maybe?
sEnt from thE noTe 3
Same here then I went into my settings to check the brightness (settings, display, brightness) and it said brightness decreased to prevent over heating or something like that ..check it next time you notice it dimming and see if it's the same thing ..pretty annoying
Sent from my SM-N900T using xda app-developers app
power saver uses the dimming option for low consumption of battery and make sure auto adjust is off in display settings
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using Tapatalk 4
Power saving isn't on. Adapt display didn't fix it either

I have everything turned off also ..I checked in my settings every time my screen dimmed and every time the same message ..it was driving me nuts for days (still is)
Sent from my SM-N900T using xda app-developers app
I've had this happened to me also.
It seems to be more frequent when I'm using Chrome ( not stock browser ). It suddenly gets dim and then may or may not eventually brighten up again, it's pretty random
Also happens when I'm on the launcher but not as frequent
- Automatic Brightness / Off
- Screen Mode / Professional Photo
- Power saving mode / Off
- Auto adjust screen tone / Off
Is there something else I may be missing?
It happens to me while using the xda app. Annoying as hell. It has the same message as Melissa

Does anyone know if this processor does thermal throttling? That could possibly trigger a power save dim with overheating. If we get root this can be disabled using trickster mod.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
The Otimus G Pro had a setting in the hidden menu to disable thermal throttling.

Thought this was an issue with my phone when I got it from AT&T yesterday. Glad to know it isn't just me. It seems to only have the issue when I am in a low-lite area (at least on mine) but when I am in an area with good lighting and the back light is 75% or more it doesn't dim nearly as much. Would be interested to see what a fix would be for this.

So I've been having this issue and noticed it like two days ago, and reading all your responses I looked through and noticed I had one of the features that I thought I turned off. Smart Stay says that it starts to turn the screen off when we look away maybe it's a buggy feature (one I never intended to use but it might be the one doing this dimming thing (being one of the first steps to turn off the screen)

Htc one speaker phone stuck on

How many people are having the speaker phone issue where it automatically turns on when making or receiving calls? And has any one found a fix? I'm wondering if it's hardware or software issue. And does any one that had the issue flash a rom that got rid of the issue?

Thanks guys. I'm not sure if it's a hardware issue or software. I see this issue is huge on allot of HTC phones.
I did do a factory reset then i recalibrated sensor. Seemed to slow it down now it only turns speaker phone on once in a while instead of every time.

I have this issue also. Completely Stock. Started after the 4.4 KitKat OTA from Sprint. Sometimes it seems the mute button will activate as well, but 1 out of ~15 calls it mainly goes on speakerphone, completely random for me.
It's a problem with the KitKat update. There are several threads on this. Even other phones seem to have it. No solution so far

This is a verified issue with audio code in versions of Chrome from Feb 28 on.
Phone will function normally until Chrome is run and vice versa.
Reboot phone - make/accept call, all is well.
Run Chrome - make/accept call, lol speakerphone.
And on phones with separate media and earpiece speakers...
Reboot phone - visit website with audio, plays from main speaker normally.
Make/accept phone call - return to Chrome and try a site with audio, lol...plays from earpiece.
Workaround for now is to revert to Chrome from BEFORE 2/28 update and disable automatic updating.

I suppose one easy way would be to just grab it from the SVN trunk of a ROM that hasn't updated the app since before the update...InsertCoin for example includes a chrome apk under /data/app that was pushed to svn on 2/26
You don't need to install svn or anything, just browse to the appropriate folder, click the desired file, and use the "view raw file" link to download the individual item.
I couldn't believe chrome was able to distroy so many things. First the stupid overlapping and now this?? I found a link to 32.0.1700.99 released in the end of january. Hopefully it fixed the issue http://www.devfiles.co/download/HZbWUeks/ChromeBrowser-32.apk

Working great for me so far. thanks guys...
It seems that today's Chrome update (v33.0.1750.166) fixes the issue. Here's a link to the actual fix revision.
Edit: I got the update from the Play Store in case that was unclear.
So I tried installing the chrome update, did not fix it, it turns out the modaco toolkit update fixed it
At least according to my testing
Also I did not have chrome until I installed it to try to fix the issue

Silent boot possible without root?

One of the first things I always want to do with a new phone is turn off the stupid boot sound. Is there a hidden setting somewhere to do this on the AT&T GS5? With root it would be easy enough to change the audio file. Not looking for an app that kludges around the issue by muting when you reboot.
I only know about having the phone in silent or vibrate to have the boot silent.
