Basic Questions about le 2 - LeEco Le 2 Questions & Answers

1. Le 2 is displaying the date in MM/DD/YYYY in the notification bar. How to change it to DD/MM/YYYY ? there is no direct option in Date/Time.
2. Also when I am using the QR code scanner it is always taking me to the stock browser instead of chrome, though I set chrome as a default browser.

Don't know about the 1st one. But try clearing default settings of the stock browser and the next time you scan a barcode, it should give you a choice between chrome or stock or any other browser.

Observed it first time after reading . In X526, If I change Phone's Language to Tamil or Hindi, the date format is DD/MM/YYYY. But I can't use regional languages. 'm using English(UK), format is MM/DD.

How to Turn Off Mobile Version of Website

Is there a way to make it so the browser default browser shows the desktop version of the website by default? I hate going to web pages pages and it's the mobile version.
You could use the about:debug method, but I don't think that's permanent. I just use Dolphin HD browser and set it to desktop since I like it better than the stock browser anyways.
If your default homepage is Google, the setting is at the bottom of the page.

I'm pretty sure that is only for Google.com and not for any other pages.
this is my old gripe about the default web browser is the constatn mobile website crap, personally i think all mobile websites should be disbanded, no one even uses them.
Yeah, I'm using the about:debug method. I wish I would be permanent.
I completely agree with disbanding all of the mobile websites. They are just annoying and it's not always easy to find the link to switch to the desktop page.
someone needs to find a way to make the default browser (i like the default browser) able to permanently go full site, without rooting.
I know that this not exactly what you want, but Dolphin Browser HD has that option, to always go to the desktop version of a website.
That does not help for the default browser, of course, but maybe something to consider, if you didn't know about that option?
Cheers

How to set cool reader as defaut epub application ?

Hi,
I have a NST rooted with TouchNooter and I use the special Cool Reader application made for e-ink screens :
http://blog.the-ebook-reader.com/20...artial-refresh-and-page-button-support-video/
The browsing epub files system of cool reader does not find well my epubs on my microSD card and I would like to open them from my file manager but it always open them in the nook reader.
I have seeked in "manage application" /Launch by default but I cannot set it
It is said " No default set" and it seems it cannot be set.
would you know a way to set i as a defaut reader for epub files ?
It's ok I found a workaround :
I did re-install the cool reader application and now it can sees my epub files.
But I still wante to make it as the default reader, if you have any leads ?
I don't know if this will be of any help but as nobody else had an answer, Mantano reader is the only reader app I've tried which gives the option to replace the built in reader as default when a book is chosen from the built in library.
At least this shows it can be done. If someone made a custom Cool Reader app which works on the Nook, perhaps you might be able to get them to add on this function.
Cool Reader on my nook asks me if i want to set it as the default app. There must be something else causing it to not work correctly.. For the longest time coolreader was the only app that allowed you to set it as the default on the nook... when i opened a epub from the stock library app it asked what app i wanted to use... so I click the box and then selected cool reader.
What version of the app are you running?
What software version is on your nook?
What other weird random app are installed?
Why don't you look at a logcat to see what intent is flying around?
There are two main ways to open up an epub:
Use a MIME type
Use a path filter
Here I am, opening an epub (using the MIME type as interpreted by the Open Intents file manager):
Code:
I/ActivityManager( 1016): Starting activity: Intent { act=android.intent.action.VIEW dat=file:///media/Digital Editions/Hero.epub typ=application/epub flg=0x10000000 cmp=com.bn.nook.reader.activities/.ReaderActivity }
Cool Reader - Special Version for NST
Is there still a special version of Cool Reader for eInk readers?
I just rooted my new Nook Simple Touch yesterday and loaded Cool Reader from the Google Market through my Nook. Did this give me the special version for the Nook, or do I need to track it down and sideload it?
There is no "special" version for e-ink. The market CoolReader itself has some settings related to e-ink/Nook (e.g. partial refresh settings,..)
Btw, I would like to post some patche for CoolReader (better word selection for dictionary search purposes) but I am not able to build it on my Fedora - I am Android newbie. Is anyone willing to write a step by step howto? I am having issues with setting the project in Eclipse and building it. If so, please anwer it here or even better in the CR forum
http://sourceforge.net/projects/crengine/forums/forum/673936/topic/5339895
Thank you in advance.
No partial refresh settings, but there are Screen Update Mode (Quality, Fast, Fast 2), and Full Screen Update Interval settings? DO these settings control the partial refresh?
The primary reason I rooted my NST and loaded Coolreader is that I did not like the ghosting on the screen because the B&N reader only refreshes every 6 pages. I wanted a reader that would help eliminate this.
I also have a question about the dictionaries in Coolreader. Do I need to load those separately? When I select a word and select a-z I do not have a definition pop up. What did I forget to do?
Yes, Screen update mode Fast is what you are looking for. Full screen update settings means that after N pages the page is fully (not partially) refreshed. Stock reader does the full update every 6th page.
For dictionary you need to install a dictionary application, e.g. ColorDict, GoldenDict, Fora Dictionary, Aard Dictionary (and of course a dictionary for required languages) - did you actually read Cool reader description in the market? It would be good start. ;-)
Btw, it is possible to make coolreader in a way that when one word is selected it is searched in the dictionary right away, no need to choose A-Z option. Something like a "default action after one word selection" but I can't tell you the exact option at the moment.

The stock Reader has an undocumented setting for full refresh rate.

First week with Windows

Hello
And happy new year to everyone!
This is my first week on Lumia 735 after being 6 years with Android.
I like very much it's desktop, but there are some simple things that I thought until now I would figure out but I cannot find a solution....
1. How can I download a PDF from an email and then attach it to another email?
2. Is there a way to have a shortcut on notification bar for data connection?
3. Is there a way to remove Bing and get Google as default engine?
4. Is there a way to tide up settings? I feel that are randomly scattered...
5. Is there a way to open a new tab in internet explorer, but open in background? Cause we are always transferred to the new tab.
Thanks!
I'm on the same phone since about 4-5 days, so I have not yet answers for you, but another question to add:
- why on some apps the keyboard doesn't turn in landscape mode when I flip the phone? I found it working on some apps only, but in Bing search (just an example) it remains in portrait
EDIT: a bit of googling partially answers to 3: I'm a newbie so I don't know if I can link external sites here, but it seems you can change the default search engine in Internet Explorer in the browser settings (so when you type words in the address bar, it uses Google instead of Bing). Regarding the phone search button, maybe the trick is not so easy...
1. did you see download in email message? click on that link to download file to your phone.
2. with latest WP OS 8.10.14219.341 you can add mobile data shortcut in action center
or use Quick Launch app from store
3. settings - applications - internet explorer, select advanced settings and change to google
4. no... latest updated is always at end of list...
5. not exactly... try UC Browser 8.1, maybe you like it better than IE
Download a app named File attacher,it can help you to attach any files into outlook client.
Sent from my AT&T Nokia Lumia 920 using Tapatalk for Windows Phone
1) Download the file to your phone. You can then open it from the email (which will let you choose what PDF viewer to open it with, if you have more than one installed; some of them directly support sharing) or you can then switch to a file manager app (Files, Pocket File Manager, Aerize Explorer, etc.), go to the Downloads directory, and share the file from there. When "sharing" the file, one option will be to use email; this will attach the file to the email. This approach also works for other file types, by the way.
2) As dxdy says, you need to be on a new OS version (you may need to be using the "Preview for Developers" app) to get the ability to add mobile data specifically to the Action Center (swipe-from-top notification area thing) but there are lots of other ways (tons of free apps, for example) to pin a link to it on your Start screen. You can also have both WiFi and Airplane Mode toggles on the Action Center, even in less-than-newest versions.
3) Not unless you're in Russia, I think? You may be able to change the IE default search engine using the method dxdy posted above, but if you want to change the search button behavior, that's trickier. I think in Russia (or possibly just tell your phone you are), if you have the Google app installed, it may run that... haven't tried, though.
4) Settings are, unfortunately, not directly orderable. The default order for Microsoft-provided settings is basically "what MS has found people use most often", thus things like visual and audio customization are at the top, WiFi is on the first page, and stuff like Backup requires scrolling down a bunch. There's also OEM customizations, which are technically just Store apps that are pre-installed and use the Settings hub instead of the normal app list; those are always listed underneath all the Microsoft settings, and (as dxdy says), the one that was most recently installed/updated is at the top of that section ('top of the bottom of the list' if you will).
5) Doesn't seem to be any such way in IE, but there's lots of other browsers. Most of them just wrap the IE rendering engine, so pages will look the same as on IE but the UI can be totally different. This includes changes to tab management. They won't sync with your other devices, at least not by default, though. There's also a beta of Opera for WP8; it still has some bugs but mostly works and has a very different UI from IE. Annoyingly, though, Microsoft doesn't allow any of those apps to be set as the default browser (you can't change the URI association for http:/https: for example).
@axxel84: It depends on whether the app supports landscape mode. That requires work from the developer, since they have to change the layout of everything, so a lot of apps don't support it. If the app doesn't support it, then it will be locked in one orientation no matter how you turn it, keyboard included. Some apps (mostly games) are also locked in landscape mode only, and don't support portrait.
Hi guys, thanks for the help but I am still finding difficult to compose with windows after coming from fully updated Android phones.
- pdf attachments, not possible. You can see that you download files but no where to be seen in order to attach them in another email! What????
- the option to change Bing to Google was in the past, but they don't have it on new phones. And this is the company that wants to increase market share? With these kind of acts I don't think they will last many years...
- I found a way to have a shortcut on desktop that takes me to settings and there to click on for data. But why don't they include this in notification option? How difficult is this?????
- the other frustrating thing I am feeling, is that most other times when resuming an app when I go out and then in, it starts the"resuming" screen and takes 5 seconds to load... For example viber, I can't chat instantly with someone, I have to leave the program on continuously to do this
- no led notification. I should have known earlier by reading reviews, but there is no led notification!!
- no major apps as official pinterest, dropbox, instagram, sms backup to gmail. My biggest disappointment is Dropbox... I am thinking of selling the phone now and going back to Android. Having two small twins, I take continuously videos and photos, and I don't want to think about backup. I found another application but doesn't sync videos automatically. And also the backup app of windows doesn't do automatically the job... If I was windows I would hire people to help these companies develop the "big" apps...
- notification center doesn't always work. for example when a new app is downloaded, nothing comes app on notification. Or in viber you might get 10 messages on notification, if you click one and then in viber you read all, they remain on notification
Nobody seems to have emailed me a PDF recently, but I can download them from the web and they show up in my Downloads folder (on my SD card, since that's where I told Storage Sense to put new downloads). From there, I can see it in Aerize Explorer, select it, Share it, and choose an email account; a new message is created with the file attached.
Some new phones have the option for Google search, but it's not in all regions.
As you have ALREADY been told, the option to toggle data service from the Action Center is available in the latest version. It's also largely un-needed; Data Sense and related settings should give you enough control over your data usage to make it fairly unimportant. Mind you, I agree that it should have been there from the start, but asking rhetorical questions isn't actually helpful.
The "Resuming..." screen can come up for two reasons (or a combo thereof):
1) Badly-coded app that does a bunch of stuff immediately on resume, before it lets you use the app.
2) Your phone ran low on RAM and removed the app from background execution ("tombstoned" it, sort of like hibernating a laptop), so it needs to be restored from the Flash storage and then resumed.
Lots of phones don't have notification LEDs. That's not a WP8 thing, that's a "if this feature is important to you then you ought to buy a phone with that feature" thing. My HTC has a notification LED, my Samsung did not. Both are/were WP8 devices.
Automatic backup of photos and videos is included in the OS, has been included since WP7 actually, but it goes to OneDrive (formerly SkyDrive) instead of Dropbox. Microsoft software uses Microsoft services; this isn't really surprising.
SMS is automatically backed up as well, just not to Google. Why would Microsoft include a feature to back up your messages to a competitor's service?
Lack of official apps is somewhat annoying/disappointing, but you could have easily enough checked that before buying, and the apps will come in time. In the meanwhile, there's usually third-party versions of those apps.
App downloads are fast, and you know when you started them. Why would you need a notification for that? As for the thing with Viber, it's not the OS' fault that the app doesn't report when a message is read. Notifications are really easy to clear though, just swipe them to the right and all notifications for that app will clear (or hit the "clear all" button to get rid of all of them at once).

[APP] Chrome Customization - Homepage for Chrome

If you're like me, the default Chrome start page probably doesn't suit you. A homepage would be much nicer and so...
Here's a little app that will add a built-in homepage function/option to Chrome (it can be found in settings).
No, I did not make this. I simply noticed the feature is missing from most carriers and international ROM's. I extracted it from a stock T-Mobile 5.0.2 ROM, it has been tested and works for all devices and carriers.
Download, move to /system/app, set the permissions to read for all and write for owner (the same as all other applications in that folder and subfolders).
Reboot, enjoy.
homepage for chrome
I've been using centpage.com as my homepage for sometime.
I'll check this out, as i believe that the default homepage can be a lot better for chrome.

(No root) Chrome desktop view on main screen & mobile on cover automatically.

Hi all. Sharing a quick tip that made me a happy man. I have always preferred the desktop site view on the main screen. In the past I had to toggle on desktop view for each new tab but have found a method to toggle it on depending on the screen the tab is opened in automatically.
Launch chrome
Enter this url in the browser: chrome://flags
In the search box, search for “desktop”
Look for “request desktop site for tablets on android"
select "enabled for 100dpi+ screens" and restart the browser.
Chrome should indicate you need to restart the app and provides a button. If missed, make sure to restart Chrome later (use task kill or something similar) and it should now give you the respective formatted screen on the display in use.
I selected 100dpi vs a higher one, but it seems to work so I kept it in that setting. If others see otherwise please comment.
If not working, check post 2 item 2 as a newer build temporarily broke this. Hopefully fixed in newer. Please post if working on newer builds and I will update this post.
Also note: I use Resolution changer (again no root needed) to modify my resolutions somewhat by fine tuning the density to get more screen real estate. Another very nice update to get a better "desktop" browsing experience.
Change list and notes for post #1.
1. Corrected 1st post: updated URL removing HTTP.
2. Looks like the latest version broke this (96.0.4664.45 from 11/15/21). I restored the 11/4/21 version:
com.android.chrome_95.0.4638.74-463807410_minAPI21_maxAPI23(armeabi-v7a)(nodpi)_apkmirror.com.apkand got the functionality back. Hopefully this gets fixed in the next latest build. (Don't forget to turn off auto update in google play).
3. Corrected step #4 in post 1. The look for target was truncated and not completely written out.
4. The December 15, 2021 release of Chrome still is broken so stick to the known good listed above. Even the flag to set all to desktop does not work. If anyone sees otherwise do let me know. I may file a bug on this. I filed a bug on this here.
5. With the newer chrome version breaking this I did find one other useful tidbit. Setting the "Global setting to request desktop site on Android" to enabled (in the chrome://flags page) makes a new toggle in settings -> Site settings. This is labeled "desktop site" and turning it on will enable desktop site to be the default on all pages (main and cover). Not as useful as the intial post but helpful if you want to force it on or have it as the default (can still toggle it off).
6. Chrome beta is missing the "“request desktop site for tablets on android"" so possibly gtting phased out? Hope not.
7- I filed a bug on this here: https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=1280779
If you are using this, please go here and up vote the issue so it will get fixed.
https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=1280779
the builtin samsung internet browser (which is far superior to chrome and others) has the feature, together with dark mode, one-button adblock disabler for cocky sites etc.
thanks @vratnik that's good to know. I played with it some. It does not auto adjust to mobile on front and desktop on primary. That's the key thing of interest with this on chrome. But I do find the Samsung browser to be working much better than it did years ago and worthy of some more use.
Thanks for sharing. Are there any news to make this work??
