Has anyone been able to use Samsung Pay recently? - T-Mobile Note 7 Questions & Answers

Has anyone been able to use Samsung Pay recently? I've been trying to use up the $20 Samsung Pay gift card so I can double dip and see if I can get a $10 on my loaner S7 Edge, but all the terminals I've tried to use it on won't work with it. It just keeps pulsing while I hold it over the scanner but it never gets read by the register.
Target: bonus gift card and my regular VISA card didn't work on the self checkout lane
Walmart: bonus gift card and my regular VISA card didn't work on the self checkout lane
Walmart: bonus gift card and my regular VISA card didn't work on the normal checkout lane BUT this was the same register I first used Samsung Pay on to get that $20 bonus gift card and it worked then.
I want to try fast food places next but I really don't want to look like a total dumbass holding up the line while waving my phone at the card reader and frantically trying to go through different cards

Thought it was just me. I finally got it to work at Fry's (grocery store).

Mine wasn't working on my old Note 7, one I traded in for the new one it started working.
Ps. Make sure to update the the app.

I used it at a vending machine the same day i got the new phone..and it worked fine as usual.
I would suggest updating the app if you havent done so.

I Found you need to use it as a Credit Card to work. Mine only worked at Shell when rung as a Credit Transaction.

Thanks guys, I was thinking something was wrong with Samsung's network or the recent update screwed something up since it wasn't working anywhere when it used to. Guess I'm just gonna have to try using it in more places to see if I can get it to work.

i have been using it fine on my V1 note 7. even updated to the newest version on the note and it still works fine

Works fine every time with my v1 and v2. No problems here. It's usually quicker than swiping a card, or about the same speed.

I, not sure.
Everything was setup correctly and all my infor is there.
I try it today at the store and the pad said card read error. I did it to times and same thing.
But then i used my real card and same thing. The lady had to swipe my card on her side. So i think it was just there pad but it still seems to work.

V1 and V2 both working fine. And because I started from scratch on my V2, I got a second $10 Visa when I made my first transaction with the new phone. So all is good.

Same here and a second $5 Dunkin Donuts gift card.

It's always been finicky for me. Even on the note 5

Sim Card Reader Replacement DIY?

My wife dropped her Captivate in some water. After 24 hours in rice everything works except the Sim Card reader. I ordered a new sim card reader to install but I was wondering if anyone has a guide or suggestions during the install. Anything that would help would be great. Hopefully this wonder be as hard as replacing a broken screen on a Moto Backflip.
*Fixed: http://samsung-captivate.weebly.com/1/post/2011/09/sim-card-reader-fix.html
Part is coming in today. Anyone have anything?
No idea about that, but if you want to "fix" water damage there is this information available.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1073929
I'm not advocating fraud, but lets say your sd slot just stopped working one day without any water contact. In that case, the logical thing to do is walk into at&t and raise hell.
I got this fixed. I posted a DIY on my blog at http://samsung-captivate.weebly.com/1/post/2011/09/sim-card-reader-fix.html
Nice work man

T-mobile and AT&T (ISIS) blocking Google Wallet NFC

So let me start my story and then tell you why I made this thread.
Driving in 21 degree weather in Atlanta and realize my car is drifting to the right. Pull over see flat tire and nail in it. Get to gas station to air up and head to 24hr tire repair shop. Walmart has NFC air machine. Get ready to use NFC and realized I switched Nexus 4's today. (I have 2 N4's) and it wouldn't let me set the card up.
Google wallet goes through normal setup, get email saying I added new device. Application shows my usual debit card I use by default. Says click to setup card for use. Click card and after about 3 minutes of spinning I get an error. Error read "Error adding card". So I assumed it was just for the moment. Walked to attendant and got change to use air pump.
I get home to setup again and got the same error 4 times. So I called "Google Wallet support" and they told my basically "AT&T and T-Mobile have integrated an NFC chip in the new micro and mini sim cards that interferes with Wallet setup and NFC possibly but definitely Wallet support on nexus 4 devices on both carriers." He stated that the "Google Wallet Technical Support Team are aware of this issue and they've received floods of calls today concerning this and are working to fix the issue as soon as possible." Apparently T-Mobile & AT&T activated the beginning stages of ISIS in a test this week and whatever they did screwed Wallet from being set up properly. He is unaware if it affects those already set up.
I am really upset because the card portion of the air machine was obstructed so I couldn't slide my card properly and I didn't have change. The one time NFC was the only option and it didn't work.
So this is just a heads up for all of you so you won't be in a similar situation as I was. I think it's sneaky and underhanded for T-Mobile to do this and we should at the LEAST have been notified that they were activating or even including NFC in the newer SIM cards.
Anyone else had this issue? I will update OP when I hear more on this.
It's been discussed here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2020482
It don't have a problem because I'm not in a test market. It really does suck they have messed up wallet with their Isis BS. Hopefully Google can figure out a workaround.

[Q] your data plan does not work on this device

I just came home from the tmobile store with my brand new note 4. (Rooted and recovery before even charging the battery) I stuck the sim card from my s4 into it and get that message when I try to access the Internet. I'm on the prepaid unlimited data 70 a month plan. I put the sim back in my s4 and am writing this from it. Any ideas? :confused
Solved : I needed this line in the apn http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
Try a different SIM if you can. If not, I would take it back to the store and ask them about it.

Yeah I have 2 Sim now. The one from my s4 which I assumed was only a matter of switching out. And the one that came with the note. Which one should I be using? I will call to tomorrow but if possible I would like to resolve it tonight I can't wait any longer to play with my new phone.
when I was in the store, I've been using my phone with Sim card from different phone. I had no problems at all for about 3-4 months and after, my phones whole voice just dropped. When I went back into the store, they told me that my voice shouldn't have worked with different Sim, so I got a replacement. Maybe you just need a new Sim to activate with your new note 4?
and congrats on getting a new note 4!! definitely a top phone

Used it for the first time this morning at the car wash. Worked perfectly.
When you say it isn't working, are you meaning you can log in and setup your Credit Card and such or that is doesn't work at the terminal?
I got everything setup last night but haven't tried to use it anywhere yet.
Go into samsung pay settings and turn simple pay on for the number of options there.
Same issue on my wife's.. mine works fine (Black) hers acts like the service isn't available (Coral Blue)
Even though she was using it on her Note 5...?
What color are you guys that are having this issue? I am wondering if there is something different by color.. I know it sounds weird, but there were differences between my wife's White Note 5 and my Gold Platinum Note 5..
I haven't tried to use it yet, but the app setup fine. I was able to add a bunch of cards as well.

Then yours is fine.. what we're talking about, is it doesn't even allow you to get to the setup. It acts like the app is "coming soon"
I have a black Note 7 and had the same message last night after receiving my phone. I figured that it was not ready for the note 7 yet, and slept on it. When I tried again this morning it allowed me to log in and set it up just fine. Not sure if this is why it worked the second time, but I restarted my phone this morning after all the installs and cleared the cache. Maybe that had something to do with it?
Been using it perfectly since I got the phone yesterday. Added 6 cards and 3 loyalty cards. Got the 20 dollar promo at best buy getting a screen protector last night.

I just got off the phone with Samsung, was having the same issues, Added that card fine last night, went to try use it today and the card was gone and every time I tried to add it, it kept saying "cannot connect to samsung pay"
They had me open the application manager, force quit the samsung pay "samsung pay framework", clear its cache and then click on "samsung pay" force stop, clear its Cache and it Data.
That forced me to go through the setup again, but allowed me to add my card, and now it seems to be working.
Hope this helps.
Thanks.
I didn't use it. However, I noticed an update for it within the Samsung pay app settings, under "about". It should be version 2.2.02. I'm not saying that's the cause, but might help.
i setup mines up last night ok. i added two of my cards. One i did the resend for the activation code 2 times. The other card did work never got one. Then this morning i deleted it and readded and the activation card got sent and work this time.
I remember on my s7 edge when i first got it. samsung pay didnt work. woulnt get pass finger print. Call samsung and they said to delete the samsung pay app data and cache.
Once i did that the s7 edge setup fast and easy.
Worth a shot if you guys n girls are still having problems.
Mine worked perfectly at Walgreens and I got a 20 dollar Samsung gift card

Worked great last night at the movies. Even got the free $20 virtual gift card 2 minutes later. Be sure to use Samsung pay at least once to get your free money!

Samsung Pay working for me just like you see on commercials. I get the same reactions too.
I notice when I took off the locking on lock screen Google pay said it won't work due no lock on lock screen. May be this is same with Samsung Pay.
It stands that if you have stuff like Samsung Pay, Google Pay, etc in your device that you should lock your device too.

3rd day now and I still can't register the cards I had on my S7. Tried everything. I guess I'll call Samsung at some point today.

[Q] What is the draw with samsung pay?

I didn't want to clutter up the root thread asking but some people seem very bent on being able to keep samsung pay but why? Isn't it pretty much just google pay just from a different company? I never use things like this so I am not sure if you get some kind of bonus or something using it.

Samsung pay works anywhere (even terminals where apple pay &Android pay don't).
It's really cool when u pull your phone out and the cashier say w"we don't have that here" and it works.

Okay so it's no different from just cards with tap to pay chip in them. I can see why some people care then but I don't know root or being able to use my phone as my wallet is a toss up.

No it's different Samsung pay will work on a regular "dumb"terminal where others won't
Sent from my SM-N930T using Tapatalk
I use to root every phone I had within moments of getting it. I liked Android Pay and on the Nexus 6 was not happy when on Marshmallow they took away Android Pay if the phone was rooted, however someone very smart figured out how to get around this. However on the S7 Edge root was not there right away and got to where I was using Samsung Pay a few times a week. I like being able to not have to pull out my wallet in stores and just tap my phone and pay. Since this works at I would say 85%+ plus of stores it because a standard that I expect to be able to do. Now that phones don't have to have root and custom roms to make them work good out of the box I would not trade having root to give up Samsung Pay.

Used it in Walgreens yesterday and the counter person was saying it won't work because her Apple Pay doesn't work. To her surprise the terminal approved the payment in seconds. Her jaw darn near dropped. Walked out with a smile.

And you my friend made the best reason to get it, where do I sign?
The only time it won't work is on magnetic card readers that has a manual switch that a physical card has to touch to activate the magnetic head.
Can you guys list where it has worked for you (besides walgreens) so I won't look stupid when the clerk says "I told you so!"?

Works damn near everywhere I tried, even on those old school terminals with the keypad. Since Samsung pay started, I've made about $200 dollars from promotions. New device promotions, being the first 100 to use any hour on a specific day, and referrals.
Places I used it at ......
7 Eleven
Rite Aid
Nike Town
Random corner grocery stores (most have the old school terminals).
Paid a contractor that had a plug in mag strip on his iPad. (I was surprised that worked)
Best Buy
MicroCenter
Apple Store
Random Super markets
Random clothing stores
and etc ....
So.. the few seconds it takes for you to pull out your phone, you pull out your wallet instead.
Talk about lazy first world problems

Actually Samsung Pay is faster. Loading your card into chip terminals takes longer to process. Sometimes you have to swipe first, then insert into chip reader. On mag strips only, sometimes my card or the mag strip reader itself doesn't read properly, I would have to swipe more than once. And also, using Samsung pay is more secure.

Talk about extra security.... paying either way with Samsung Pay is tokenized... so even if they some "dupe" the transaction, the information is useless... that's not lazy, that's just smart.... :highfive: :good:

Why pull out your wallet from your back pocket, use the other hand to take your card out from whatever slot it's on, hold your walllet with one hand while with the other had making sure you have the card facing correctly so you can swipe or insert it properly, then swipe your card or insert your card in the chip reader (hopefully you won't accidentally leave it if you're in a rush), then when done, open wallet, put card back in with the other hand, put wallet away, then grab your stuff.
When you can just take your phone out with one hand, wake up your phone, swipe up from bottom to launch Samsung pay, approve to use it with your finger print and put the phone next to the magnetic card swipe. When done just put your phone away all with 1 hand.
But if you feel it's all about the same then who cares whichever people use. Having options are always good in my book [emoji106]
Unless you happen to forget your wallet and you have only your phone, without Samsung pay then there's no option but to drive all the way back home. Lol

I'll call from the year 2025 and let you know if it works. Still, that seems an extra step with less security.
