V2 battery life - T-Mobile Note 7 Questions & Answers

My replacement is not as good as my V1. It's a bit lower. I used to get close to 7 hour SOT. V2 I get about 6.

I don't even care right now, I've got bigger concerns. I've had several freezes across several different apps! I was looking for a thread where others have had the same issue but haven't found one yet.

It really depends on the crap that's running in the background and some of it doesn't even show in the program list under battery usage. V2 in my case runs much more efficient than V1. Right now I'm at 78% with 1hr 40 SOT, total run time over 12 hours. But to put things into perspective right before exchange my V1 started running 6% battery usage per hour, IDLING and nothing extraordinary showed up. I would charge it before sleep and in the morning it would be like 50%. After killing everything I didn't use it went back to normal and then I exchanged it, so never figure it out which particular program was causing this, but if this happens again I won't rest until I find offending apps and out will it go.
BTW I have everything on: GPS, NFC, BT, Wifi etc.

that looks like stellar life! I get max about 3 and 1/2 hrs SOT.

Same with me I used to get 5 sot average.... now I'm struggling to get over 3 and 1/2

I'm getting awesome battery life. I'm even running a gear s2, GPS on, Bluetooth on streamed music. Only Facebook disabled.
I do run it in mid power saving mode though but 7 hours with 19 percent left ain't bad.

This is running it down to 8%. Changed themes but it's same usage day from previous post.

While my SOT this cycle isn't much, I'm happy with the battery life.
Sent from my SM-N930T using Tapatalk

That's good considering you had 1 day and 14 hours of total time. My SOT was with heavy use so total time was less. I'm happy too. SOT is comparable to my old iPhone 6 Plus. Only thing is standby time on the plus was much better. That doesn't matter though because I love the features of the note 7 better so it was a trade off.

I've been getting pretty much the same as before. About 4 hours screen with 20 total.

Almost 1 day 15 hours actually, but yeah normally I use my phone more than I did the last day and a half. But overall the battery is outperforming any other phone I've ever owned.

Op here. Been a week and it's getting worse. This would only give me 2.5 hour SOT
Sent from my SM-N930T using Tapatalk

Don't think it'll last all day since I unplugged it at night

Tried factory reset and it's a little better. 5 hour SOT. Still not as good as 6.5 hours on my V1.

what are you showing us, that after five hours you plug in??

Haha. Yea, he's showing that his battery meter is not accurate. Lol.
I lasted 3 days and 9 hours with my $10 extended battery. It was at 1% for a good 36 hours of it.
On my standard battery after 16 hours of "normal to light" use, I'm usually around 60%. As long as I don't have to charge it during the day, I'm happy. Plug it in every night when you go to bed and unplug it in the morning, you will last all day.
lmao wasn't the planning on that ill give a more accuarate battery in a few hours i actually went from full at 12 pm to about 5 brinking me to 10 percent in 5 hours

Other than the incorrect meter LucasMN, how much better is the extended battery in terms of single full charge. I am debating on getting an extended battery because I use my droid heavily throughout the day for work. I charge with the same habits as you. With my current standard battery I get to about 50% by 2pm (my day starts at 8:30a)

I cannot compare it to the standard battery as I've never let the standard get lower than 30%.
3 days and 9 hours on the extended battery included 2 full work days. I work in IT and will quickly check e-mails throughout the day on my phone. Out of the office I use it quite a bit for facebook and streaming music. 95% of use was over Wifi though.
I bought the battery + cover off ebay for $10. It's about 3x as thick as the original battery.
So I was a bit concerned about battery now seems to be pretty good strange how some days I get 5 hours to 20 percent now going on 7 at only 50 percent

a half hour for a extended battery are you freaking kidding me and i thought this was bad i sms a lot too facebook and xda mostly through the day that is just crazy i am still at 50 percent and now at 7 in a half hours looks like i might make it to almost 12 on this one

I would love to see this. With my extended battery, I stayed at 1% for over a day though. Unless yours is powering off, I bet that would be the case. 30 min for an extended battery, even an OEM standard battery sounds like BS to be honest, unless it is physically damaged.
I don't know what happened to mess up everyone's battery life, but when I flashed the 904 update mine all went away!

4.2 battery life.

I think it's obvious there are some serious flaws with 4.2, everyone has made that evident. I just wanted to ask you guys what kind of battery life you all are getting out of your N7 with the new 4.2 update?
EDIT: Im not so much worried about the battery life regarding 4.2, just battery life in general. Ive got everything turned waaay down and am only getting roughly 20 hours with moderatly heavy use. What do you guys get?

Same as 4.1.2 I believe. I can't tell a difference.

I actually haven't had any issues as of yet. Been running it only a week. I did update all the apps right away, which a lot of people that had problems related them to the apps.
Haven't had one force close and battery life has been right on par with 4.1.2.
Sent from a galaxy far away!
So far mine has gotten better. I cant say for certain this is due to 4.2.1 however since I switched ROMS and Kernels to get it. But it certainly hasn't gotten worse!
Getting two days out of it which is perfectly fine with me. I get the same out of my Asus Transformer Infinity as well. Seems reasonable to me. What type of battery life were you expecting our need? Can't find a time to charge in a couple of days or something?
Ohh ive got the time. Was just curious as to what other users were getting. Guess i just expexted more battery life outta the N7. I usually get one solid day of use out of it, granted i do use the hell out of it and so does my girlfriend

I think that the batery life when you flash 4.2 is very badly.
I generally charge daily due to extremely heavy use, a few hours worth of gameplay while at work and use as my primary computer while at home. But I have went as much as 3 days with just light browsing here and there.

My battery life hasn't been that great when i was on 4.1.2 i lost like 1% over night now im losing like 15% even tho i just charge it up it seems thats its the Android os and google services thats killing the battery. I never had that much battery drain untill 4.2- 4.2.1
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
I've got to say mine's far improved... To be honest I've now set WIFI to off when in standby and screens always been down to 25%, so I'll get 2-3 days out of it with average use!
EVERYONES battery usage is going to vary... Wifi on during sleep with media syncing etc etc.... Is going to be much higher than me turning off wifi on sleep and not that much stuff running, etc...
My N7 is still at 100% if I take it off the charger at 9am and don't pick it up until 1-2 in the afternoon, which happens sometimes when I'm busy at work. There have been days that I didn't touch it all day at work and got home at 6pm and it's still at 100%.
In actual use (news, browsing, etc, not games) I see about 13-14% battery usage an hour, depends on the backlight. Games or movies, more like 16-17%.
And I've seen no obvious difference between 4.1.1, 4.1.2, 4.2, 4.2.1, etc....
My battery life so far has been amazing.
I always make sure it is fully charged when I leave my home at 7am. I have syncing, wifi and gps always turned on. While traveling I watch videos most of the time (around 1 and a half hours video screen time in total). During the day while working I use my N7 for web browsing, social media, taking notes, agenda stuff, etc. Most of the time I'm home around 6pm. Then I have about 60-70% left. I'm using stock 4.2.1, no custom kernels, root or roms whatsoever right now. I could make 2 days with quite some heavy usage, which impresses me a lot.
Took a screenshot of the battery run time. This is what I'm getting with basic web surfing and watching YouTube.

Battery life has been good so far. I'm running a 3G Nexus 7, as said previously though it is all relative to what you're doing with your device.
12hrs of moderately heavy use for the OP, and he's complaining about batt life?
Isn't the batt on these things only rated for 10hrs anyways? Maybe I'm missing something here. Google states 10hrs for reading a book or browsing the web, and only 8hrs for 720p video.
OP - i'm sure your batt life went down, but you DO realize that you're already getting more than it's rated for, right? There's so many factors that go into determining batt life, that's it's impossible to give a realistic figure.
Who knows how many apps you have in background, your WiFi signal strength, brightness of display, etc.
My battery life had been crap since day one.

Light day today, off the charger at 9am, this screenshot taken at 6:10pm. Used for 30 minutes according to the screen on timer, about 20 minutes of that was doing something on a server in irssiconnectbot and the rest was probably "glance at the weather" or "next meeting" etc.
It was at 100% around 2pm ish when I was in a meeting using irssibot, it dropped 3 or so percent while I used it there. I've never noticed this, but if you look close under the graph, it appears to have an bar for device awake, although it's dark blue and thin.

5 hours Screen on time

To get 5 hours of screen on time I ran CyanogenMod (official nightlies) with Franco kernel. The first day I ran this I only got 3 hours of SOT but second day I got 5. I am amazed because my s3 only got 4 hours of SOT. I noticed auto brightness seemed to be draining some battery so I kept it fixed. And I was running 2g the whole time because I have no internet. I plugged in my phone for a second in my ps3 that's why my phone is being charged which it didn't even go up a percent.

Just curious, how do you guys actually achieve using the screen for 5 whole hours in any given day? I don't mean in terms of battery life but purely in terms of actually spending 5 hours using the phone. The most I've ever gotten was 3.5 hours and that was on a day I had literally nothing productive to do whatsoever. Is this a normal usage scenario for you guys or just heavy usage for the sake of comparing battery life with different kernels?

Use lte it performs better battery wise than 3g/HSPA+ since it's faster, so downloads are over quicker and this should lower the msm wake lock. Also I recommend the 27 radio, then others seem to have poor signal strength and speed.

I worder how many "battery threads" are they in this forum? and all the time the same nonsense.:silly:
I think I could get up to 6 hours of SOT if
1) I remove all apps excluding settings and a few more important apps for battery
2) disabling 3 cores and taking it to 300mhz when its undervolted
3) use no wifi/2g/3g
4) brightness at least
But this would make my phone completely useless and take me back to symbian days!

Galaxy S4 Active Battery Life

Just got the phone today and have not had a chance to calibrate the battery but the battery life so far is horrible compared to the original S4.
Anyone else experiencing bad battery life on this phone?
I'm the opposite. I had the S4 for a week and a half and traded it for the Active a couple of days ago. My battery life has been better than the original. I've got this phone set up the same as I did the s4 too. It probably just varies on what apps you have installed.

The battery life on my Active is far better than any other phone I've owned. I got 5 1/2 hours screen time yesterday with over 16 hours uptime. Still had 15% left when I replaced the battery this morning. Never seen anything like that before.

I had the S4 for a few days and I was worried because my battery would be drained in less than 8 hours. Coming from an S2 that I had to baby to get through the day I was worried. Ever since I exchanged the S4 for the Active I don't really worry about playing games, even for a couple hours, because it easily gets me through the day.
Disable the only big battery drain I had was maps constantly updating my location. I disabled that and run on power saver. I woke up at 6am this morning and its 7:30 now, I still have 59% left. I used to average 22 hours on my old captivate so I guess I'm not doing too bad. I realize that having a phone that out performs most PC's is going to munch some milliamps.
I'm rooted, debloated, and try to avoid constantly updating apps. I use better battery stats to "tune" my usage too.

I had the phone for a week, and after a few days my battery was draining like crazy (lost 90% overnight with everything off).
I went to the store and got a new battery...so far it's been amazing. I think my back cover may not have been 100% locked in to be honest, not sure if that would affect it or not.
I used to get between 4-5 hours on screen time. Stand by time doesn't mean much. I have noticed that the display is brighter so that could do it.
I also tried the battery from my S4 and same results.
My original battery is on charger. I am going to charge to full and completely drain it and check on screen time and report it.
After I recalibrated the battery it is looking great now. 1 hour on screen time only used 10% battery.
I will keep you posted.
The battery on my active is much better than on my regular s4. The standby time is actually good. My regular s4 always loses about 15% an hour in standby with nothing running.

I am at 13hrs with 30% remaining. I have 2 email accounts, weather, and a network monitor that sync actively. So far, I like this, coming from a note.

Getting good battery backup [Not Rooted][Review]

Hey,
It's been 2 weeks since I got my Black 32Gig Nexus 5, I was a little bit afraid about the battery backup of N5 from reviews, every reviewer pointed out that N5 battery is downright bad but after getting my device I found out that N5 battery is NOT that bad but actually offers good backup :fingers-crossed: , the funny thing is when I charged first time and used my N5 it went down after just 5 hours with SOT of 2 hours !! but what makes me wonder is that after my first charging backup starts to increase !! I don't know why is this happening but battery backup actually increased noticeably day after day, I just don't know how this is happening may be battery is taking time to set up, I know first days we use our device with everything turned on thereby draining battery more than after getting used to but I can confirm that's not the case, backup is actually increasing. I have attached images of my current backup+settings.
Battery Status
Total time on battery : 20 Hours
Screen on time : 5 hours
Settings
Not Rooted.
Brightness: 20%(Approx.), Auto was too bright.
Location : On all the time with Battery saving mode.
WIFI: On all the time
Data: On all the time(HSPDA)
Bluetooth/NFC: Off all the time(I didn't had a chance to use it)
Google Now/ Location reporting : On
Vibration on typing(Key touch): Off (prolly most don't care about this but a big battery drainer)
Usage
30 mins of phone call
30-40 mins of web browsing with Chrome
30 mins of gaming (Temple run and NFS)
20 mins of music
Couple of photos taken
Couple of apps downloaded with playstore etc
I know battery is NOT a pro side of N5 but 20 hours is all I expect from a quad core smartphone !! also backup is really not a dealbreaker for Nexus 5.
My humble small review
Cons (That would go first)
Speaker - This is the biggest problem and a "can be deal breaker" con of N5, I never expected BOOMSOUND from this phone but current ouput is downright bad.
Camera App - Sucks big time, lot of time to focus etc but don't take me wrong image quality is NICE.
A bigger battery would have been better (Not saying current backup is bad)
Button rattling, negligible but shows production carelessness.
IR Blaster would have been nice, It's kinda asking a lot for $350 device it would have been a bigger plus since Kitkat is natively supporting it.
Pros
Everything else than cons about the phone are huge pros

While I haven't seen any crazy battery life from this phone I have been getting 4½ hours screen time with 20+ hours on a charge consistently. After I figured after that touch sounds were causing a bad wakelock I was having the first couple days.
So I'm perfectly happy with battery life, its an improvement over my G'Nex and that's on LTE the entire time.

So you're saying touch sounds can be a huge battery drain?
Wow never thought that the N5 can achieve 5 hours SOT!
I have a very similar phone usage, so this is a great post, thank you!
