Xperia X Performance vs Xperia XZ. Which one to choose? - Sony Xperia X Performance Questions & Answers

Can we draw out the real differences between X Performance and XZ. I bought the X Performance already and now I feel I should have waited for the XZ.
Sent from my F8132 using XDA-Developers mobile app

from what i gathered they are the same except the laser auto focus, everything else is just software improvements, i have an x performance dual and i love it, didn't even mod it yet cause its just amazing,

I also have X performance and I love it the camera is just limited on new 275 heat isn't a issue like 227 so they need to add 4k back to camera and unlock options so it's not just 8mp. Other then that I love it would like root on lb cause my carrier locks bl but all amd all I'm pretty happy replaced my Z3 with x performance but still carry Z3 cause I have cyberian camera on z3

I like the looks of the X performance, and I might pickup the X compact, I like the lite blue color one, may be I can use the X compact as a spare phone, Have no intention of getting the XZ.

What made me recommend the performance was holding the XA (same body size) in my hand at best buy yesterday. It's the perfect size with the 5" screen and small bezels.

The diff in size is just mm. Screen is 0.2 inches bigger on XZ where X Performance has 13 ppi more
Camera, proc, ram is identical on both devices.
The XZ has a 2900 mAh battery, 200 more than the X has The XZ also has a USB-C connector !!
Camera controls are a bit better as it has more manual settings, ISO and shutter speed.
I have used my X performance for some time and waiting for the XZ to arrive any day )
The X Compact was to much plastic fantastic to my taste :-O
Either way, they are all very good devices!

Xperia V or Xperia M2?

Hello ! First,im sorry if im not in right section.I coming from Galaxy S Advance subforum.Soon i will sell my Galaxy S Advance for like 100-120 euro, then i must collect more 100-150 euro to buy a sexy Sony Xperia M2 which will be released in April in shops with price like 200-289 euro.Im still wonder which to choose:
1)Xperia M2 :
-sexy and premium design
-4.8" screen
-snapdragon 400 quad core 1.2 Cortex A7
-adreno 305
-8 MP camera
-but not water and dust resistant (i wanted just water resistant)
2) Xperia V :
-sexy design too,but i like more design of M2
-4.3" screen ( its little small for me because that navigation bar in touch)
-13 MP camera
-MSM8960 Snapdragon Dual Core 1.5 GHz Krait
-Adreno 225
-water and dust resistant
-cool video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sabceviTlEE (0:11 look awesome)
I saw on internet that a Adreno 305 + a good processor its same with a dual processor + Adreno 225.I dont know if its right, but what i know its that both can run all games
Xperia that i want :
-screen size like M2
-design like M2
-gpu and processor like M2 or Xperia
- 8MP / 13MP camera
-i dont really want water and dust ressistant, but if it provide more health of phone i want it.
Its hard to choose between these two phones.I want suggestions.
I would go for the newer one.
maybe take a look on the hardware size also. not only screensize. so if you are fine with a 140mm height^^... then guess nothing speaks against the m2?
xperia m2: 139,6 x 71,1 x 8,6 mm / 4,8"
xperia V: 129 x 65 x 10.7 mm / 4,3"
xperia T: 129,4 x 67,3 x 9,35 mm / 4,55"
by the way, the XT has 4,55" screen with under 130mm height. no idea why the M2 is so big. i wouldnt buy a 4,8" phone with such dimensions
but that just my personal taste^^
T,V probably end with 4.3jb. who knows. not sure about the M2.
Also you should compare the camera reports in the net.
besides that, i guess the XM2 is a good phone, if you prefer the omnibalance design over arc design.
you should feel them in a shop.
Screen resolution on M2 is mediocre comparing to V or T or TX.

Wait until Z2 is released and buy Z. It's water and dust resistant and a good phone. I'm sure you can buy it for less than 300 euros in April

Price depends on every country, and in Romania right now its 400-520 euros if im not wrong...And what worrie me at xperia Z its unremovable battery.
Now im wonder other things too: .
1.Whats difference between much and less ppi?
2.I searched on google but not so many results. A screen with 4.3",high resolution and high ppi its better than a screen 4.8" with low resolution and low ppi?
3.I saw somewhere on xda that xperia v (and others too or all if im not wrong) its sold with 3 variants of display: Sony,Sharp (something like this) and Toshiba (which is more bad than Sharp). How can i know if display its made by Sony when i go in a shop?
4.Noob question: Lets take M2 as e.g.If i change dpi resolution after i root it,will not be ok?Resolution from specs its not same with this one?
Xperia Z its perfect for me,but battery its unremovable and it worrie me. Also, its expansive in my country. Its still hard what to choose between M2 and V.
ppi - pixels per inch, aiming at ~300 is great, less becomes more grainy, more is overkill in sharpness. A 720p resolution screen at 4.3 inches (Xperia V) is 342ppi and a bit of an overkill in sharpness. Same resolution at 4.8 inches is 306ppi (Galaxy S3) and it's still sharp enough not to be grainy. Basically you're stretching pixels (making them bigger) with each added inch unless you increase resolution (and you cannot increase above max screen resolution).
1080p resolution at 5" inches is pretty pointless (consumes more power probably also, more pixels to display etc). At 7 inches it's pretty great, sitting at 323ppi (nexus 7 2013).
dpi is something else entirely.
edit:
Personally, I'd probably pick Xperia V from those 2, mainly for the ppi. Xperia ZR would be ideal. Xperia Z would be the next choice.
If you can get a ZR for the same price as M2 then i would go for that instead. ZR is like the V. It's waterproof, slightly bigger screen, way better battery life and quad core snapdragon S4 with Adreno 300.

Navbar takes about 1cm of vertical screen size. Don't know the inch tho.
However, there are several apps and mods around that allow a smaller navbar. So don't worry too much about that

1.TFT screen its good?
2.Design of xperia v its like e.g. M2? I mean, its curved at frames or in top /bottom of phone?I cant make difference in picture.
3.I saw on some websites that waterproof its voided in warranty? Its true?

1.
TFT:
+ much higher max brightness
+ more efficient on low brightness than led displays (with exceptions)
LED:
+ more contrast and color intensity (might even look unrealistic)
+ black themes save lots of energy, as the screen is practically off when showing black pixels.
3.
This waterproof thing is quite risky with all phones. The reason is that the charger cover looses its waterproofness with time. And how might you prove to Sony that the charger cover was actually closed when you put your phone into the water, while the indicator within the cover had turned red of water?
4. You can check by dialing *#*#SERVICE#*#* at the XV you want to buy. Then a menu will pop up and you just need to check the touch firmware version. If it's type b, you have the Sony display.
5. XV does have an ambient light sensor, however this one is only capable of registring values up to ~ 180 lux.
You will however not notice this issue when using the phone
Also, OTG should be possible, as I noticed the system app related to this.

1.Xperia V look like e.g. Xperia L ?
2.M2 screen its so bad?
3.I saw somewhere that a dual cpu ( e.g. dual 1.5 ghz from Xperia V) and andreno 225 (e.g. from xperia v) have same performance with a dual cpu (e.g. 1ghz) or quad core(e.g. M2 processor) and adreno 305.Its true?
4. How i can write service at dialer? ( *#*#SERVICE#*#* ). And 3 manufacturer display are available for all xperia (e.g. M2 too) ??
5.You are sure that type b of display its sony manufacturer?Because i want sony
These are my last questions.

1. Xperia V has a curved back, being 0.7cm high at the slimmest point. Also, there is some kind of dark silver colored frame on the side of the phone. I think the design is quite similar to Xperia L, however the pet button is a little different (small and in the same color as the silver frame, as opposed to the bigger on/off button of the 2013 Xperia devices)
If this doesn't answer your question, just check images on Google.
2. Don't know anything about M2 screen, but as XV screen is said to be extremely good, it's not so likely that M2 screen is better. But I don't know. ^^
3. This one is partially true.. When I started tweaking my phone some months ago, I managed to beat the S4 in 3D benchmark. So, compared to the device's resolution, the gpu is pretty good.
However, nothing really can replace a quad core. It's just faster.. The cpu is actually the only thing of my phone that I'm not happy with. ^^
The ui is still extremely smooth, however (thanks to the wonderful 4.3 update ^^)
4. Just write the numbers that are on the dialer keys, like you were typing on a t9 keyboard.
You'll have to check the M2 forums for this display stuff.
I only know the XV displays.
5. Well, I am sure I read the character b in a thread some time ago, but I can't confirm if the information given the is correct. (However, it is likely )
My advice: Get the Z1 compact, or a similar device.. M2 screen resolution is too small (imo), and XV cpu not too awesome
Also, consider that the battery and ram size of the devices are important when buying.
768mb as the XV has sound much, but 4.3 ram management is quite bad, and even with 4 apps in background, I have only 150mb left.. So check of M2 has more ram, it is pretty useful, also for playing games
And the XV's battery is quite small, it only lasts one day of normal usage for me. Or 2 hours of 3d gaming.

Both phones have 1GB RAM.
@WhiteNeo : Z1 compact have unremovable battery.Phones with this typw of battery worrie me... Still prety hard what to choose between V and M2...Im waiting for a review of display and then i will choose...
Thank you for answers guys !
I've been using Xperia V for more than a year now. I would recommend you to pick the V than M2. I compared my V with my friend's M2, V seems to have better sceen, a lil bit faster processor. But I have to warn you those water resistant cover are very easy to fail, mine failed after 10 months of using and I'm a very careful user though.
Hope this can help

[Q] From LG 4x to Moto G 2014?

Since I'm fed up with my damn lg phone (my worst mistake ever in technology), do you think that it is a good idea to change it with a Moto G 2014?
I'm happy after switching from a sony z1
Sent from my XT1068 using XDA Free mobile app
Why would you do that? I like the phone too but a Z1 is leagues ahead.
Sent from my XT1068 using XDA Free mobile app
smashed the screen of the z1 now using it with a mouse,
also the moto g 2014 is just a pleasure to hold and the bezels are much smaller making it easier to type on and use, the phone looks great ,has dual front speakers, it doesnt overheat like my z1 and it has less sharper(lower res) but much better screen z1 had horrid viewing angles and a yellow hue
performance wise I didnt notice much of a difference in fact apps like reddit is fun and xda did shutter while scrolling on the z1 but not on the moto g also the most demanding game i play is avabel and it runs just as well on the moto g if not better, also bear in mind that i was using slimkat and a custom kernel on the z1 with overclocks on the cpu(with undervolt) and gpu, on art runtine... on a side note even on 1.2 ghz cpu and 200mhz gpu the z1 would heat up a lot more than the moto g
end rant...
Yes, it is a great idea, go for it, you won't regret it
+1
I had a LG P880 before, Moto XT1068 is more responsive, has better battery life.
You won't see difference beetween 720p and 1080p.
I don't regret the change

That's really good to know, I thought so but I wasn't sure.
Did you noticed anything different in a negative way from the lg4x to the Moto g 2014 (apart from half the internal storage)?
Not really.
Some widgets and minor functionalities are missing (espacially compared to CM11 I'd installed on my LG...), but you can easily install xposed framework and gravity box.

More than about software I meant about hardware (screen, camera, size etc).
Screen has good quality (maybe brigthness should be higher outdoor compared to LG)
Camera quality is very good too, responsive enough.
Audio stereo not too bad
GPS fixes very fast (within 5 seconds !)
Battery life : 2 days 1/2 (airplane mode during night)
From now on I didn't test everything, like front camera for example.
I was looking for a phone with a 5 inches screen, smooth UI (despite only 1gb), evolutive (soon Android L), cheap. Moto G 2nd Gen is one of them.
Thanks for the opinions guys, I just got my Moto g 2014 from Argos

[Q] Moto X or Sony Xperia Z3 Compact

I like stock android and moto features but it looks like the z3 is better when it comes to specs. which one do you prefer?
Better in terms of what specs? Both have the same Snapdragon 801 2.5GHz processor, same amount of RAM. The Moto X in its favor has a 1080p AMOLED display, a larger 5.2in screen, stock android, and customizability. The Z3 Compact in its favor has a slightly larger battery (2600 mah vs 2300 mah), a greater battery life, a microSD slot, and a waterproof (vs splash resistant) design. All I will say is that if you're looking for updates, there's no question that the Moto X wins out as it is already on 5.0. The Z3 Compact will likely receive it early next year. There's also the fact that the Moto additions such as Display, Assist, and Voice aren't available anywhere else. Your choice depends on whether you prefer battery life, a waterproof design, and a microSD slot above stock android, fast updates, hardware customizability, and a higher resolution screen.

yes but which phone do you think has a better investment, future proof and overall?
The Moto X is in another league compared to the Z3 Compact, build quality alone sees to that.
A better comparison would be with the Z3 proper.
If by future proofing you mean updates, then there's only 1 answer to that: Moto X. You've seen by now how quickly the Moto X got the updates to KitKat and to Lollipop. Sony can never be as fast as that simply because they choose to put their UI on the phone, which, unless it undergoes some plastic surgery when their 5.0 update rolls out, looks extremely boring and dated. I've had a Z2 before, and trust me, its UI got tiring after a while, especially when you see all the little places where the system lags in comparison to stock android (try pressing on the multitasking button with the X and the Z2/Z3 side by side, you'll see what I mean).
I used the Z3c for about 10-days before I sold it and got my leather backed Moto X. The Z3c is a decent phone, but it feels so delicate, and the super slippery glass front and back made me feel like I was going to drop it all the time. The speakers are horrible, supposedly from the waterproofing, but they sounded very muffled. My Moto X, even compared to 1st gen, has a wonderful sound quality, and is plenty loud enough. The flaps on the side (Z3c) are not very attractive, and it seemed like over time would get very tedious to use. One cool feature though is the addition of the magnetic charging port (like on a MacBook), but it was pretty fiddly to get it to seat right, and didn't play well with my car dock. The Z3c screen is really bright and clear and could easily be seen in direct sunlight, and the camera is leagues ahead of the MotoX despite having dozens of camera filter modes to wade through. On paper the Z3c comes out ahead of the Moto X, but as far as usability, ease of use, feel in the hand, build quality, and pure(ish) android the Moto X is a much better phone. And, one more thing, one you get used to the Moto's active display, driving mode, and always listening stuff it's really hard to live without.
Pretty different phones. I think the compact is more similar to the 2013 Moto X (screen size and resolution). I would take a compact over a 2013 X. The new 2014 X compares much more closely to the full Z3. I looked at a Z2 a while back, and it felt a lot bigger in the hand than the 2014 Moto X. I don't think it was really that much bigger, but the appearance in the hand was. If you are all in the Sony experience, have a PS4 and all that, then the Z3 could be cool - but for a straight-up clean Android experience phone, I would go Moto X. Now, the Z4 looks to be pretty cool with an 810 and Sony's new camera hardware. About 6 months out.
I happen to own both a Moto X and a z3 compact. I love love love my z3 compact. Best battery life I've seen on any phone that I have owned and I own at least 6 or 7 different phones per year. Both the Moto X and the z3 compact feel really good in the hand. I was using my z3 compact as my daily driver until 5.0 dropped in the Moto X. I will be switching back to it when lollipop drops on it. I really did not expect to like the device as much as I have. I raved about the device so much to my co-workers at swappa that two of them went out and bought the phone. The skin on the sony is not bad at all either. I think both are great phones but I will admit my z3 compact is my favorite. I buy and sell phones all the time and my z3 compact is one I don't even consider selling.. And I love the device so much that I got square trade on it just in case something happens to it.. My 2 other current phones and any of my tablets do not have square trade.. Only my z3 compact. If running stock Android and the latest version of Android is important to you then I would say stay with the Moto X. If you want a perfect size device, with a great camera and don't mind waiting for Sony for lollipop and want a phone with amazing battery life (with heavy use I get over a day and a half with very minimal usage I've gotten 4 days!) I really am impressed with that device.. Much more than I thought I'd be. You can't really lose either way honestly.

[Q] Z3C or Moto X 2014?

Hi, i'm planning to buy a new phone. Currently i've a Samsung Galaxy S2 (i9100) and want something faster and updated.
After consider various options (phones features, prices, availability in my country) i reduced the list to the Motorola Moto X 2014 and the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact.
The things that interest me are:
Good audio quality and volume with headphones. I own a Sennheiser HD 429s headphones, wich have 32 ohm of impedance, so with the S2 i must use headphone amplifier (FiiO E6) for get more volume and "definition". My idea with a new phone is use the headphones without the amplifier (because the HD 429s have mic, and with the amplifier i cannot use)
Good Android support and fast updates. I think the Moto X is best on this point compared to the Z3C (pure Android & updates), but also know the Sony AOSP project and the efforts of Sony to bring Lollipop quickly.
Good community support and ROMs. I love to install ROMS and get the better of my device. Currently have CM10.2 on my S2. I think the Moto X will be better on this point
Powerful performance. Both devices have Snapdragon 801 @2.5 Ghz, so i think the performance is guaranteed. But ¿the customized UI on the Z3C affects the performance of the phone? ¿is best to performance getting pure Android, as on Moto X?
Good battery life and construction quality. I want to escape from all-plastic Samsung devices. Also, i don't want a big phone. The 5.2" screen and phone size of the Moto X is the maximum size that i can bear
So, what phone you recommend to buy guys? Someone have tested the phones with 32 ohm headphones?
Thanks.:good:
If you read through some of the other threads, you'll find answers to most of these questions pretty easily, as this has all been discussed. But... I'll summarize.
Audio is "fine". Some details on the actual output levels here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=55794990&postcount=13. You'll also easily find references to other users with similar headphone setup and without complaints, but everyone is different.
Unknown about updates yet, as there's only been one revision to Android of concern, and it's still rolling out. Supposed to be available on Z3C but who knows until it actually releases. If you unlock bootloader you lose DRM permanently, so this is a big barrier to entry for other ROMS.
Performance is on par with other platforms with same hardware.
Construction quality is GREAT, IMO, and this really feels like a premium device. Big size difference between this and 2014 X though... I prefer smaller.
Curious why you're considering two phones so different in size. Why not the regular Z3 if you're also considering the Moto X? Many people seem to buy the Z3c for its size and battery life (me included) but the regular Z3 would be a no brainer if I was willing to tote around a 5" phone because it has arguably better build quality than the Z3c, a better screen, and just as good battery life.
Additionally the Z3 has a higher voltage output so it will drive your headphones better. The Z3 compact has a slightly lower voltage output than the Z3. I saw it somewhere but i cannot remember the exact values.
The Phone with the highest voltage output is according to this (http://forums.androidcentral.com/sony-xperia-z3/451120-z3-headphones-earphones-audio-output.html) the HTC M8. If you dont mind the size, and you want the best soundexperience i guess it is a phone that you cannot go wrong with. Also it does not have a plastic body.
As regards updates i think the new lollipop android for HTC was supposed to come earlier than for Sony phones. This is as far as i remember.
Performancewise the Z3 compact is top notch, you cant go wrong.
Batter life is excellent.
720p is totally fine for the screen size.
Sony UI is okay, but i would not worry too much it may look a bit outdated but runs fine and lagfree. And a new system is coming up anyway.
As for the Moto X i cant tell you much , in the end just read a couple of reviews and find out what you need/want in a phone. Then consider the prices, if you care about them. Then your decision will be made.
Pardon me the OT: Santiago, as in Santiago, Chile?
EDIT: Realized you are from Chile haha. Im too. Im betting you want to move to Movistar to get one of the two.
I have the same doubt, whether to get a Moto X 2014 or a Z3 Compact hahaha

Because in our country, one carrier company is selling the Moto X and the Z3 Compact + Smartband, at a very reduced price on 18-month contract (that's common in Chile). The regular Z3 is expensive.
Matter of fact, the difference between Moto X and Z3 Compact is that the Z3 Compact is (proportionally) 10 bucks (Z3 compact being the ""more"" expensive device)

Moto x4 or Moto Z?

I have the 3/32gb version of the x4. I have the option to get a brand new Moto Z with 4/64gb which as you know is also AMOLED screen and Snapdragon 820 processor with adreno 530. However it's a single camera. Should I do this?

The problem of Moto Z in my opinion is not having IP68 protection and the fingerprint sensor is that poor square with no gesture support. Otherwise it's a great gadget, I heard this Phone got a great price on Gearbest now.
64 GB vs 32 GB, new battery...
So I got to own both. Sticking with the x4.
On paper the Z sounds better. But the processor slows down significantly when using multiple apps. I would even compare it to the new gen of Snapdragon 4xx series. The 64gb doesn't mean much because a large chunk is taken up by the software. The ram is an extra GB at 4 vs. the 3 on the x4, however running all the same apps, the x4 had much ram left open for use than the Z did. Ram management was terrible. Other than that, the camera was the worst in low light I've seen in a long time and bad in general. The battery was the worst and it also gets really hot really fast. Lack of fingerprint sensor gestures. The screen was very nice and vibrant but the x4 screen was also very good, just not quite as good but the no reason for me to keep the Z over the other cons. I wanted to get in detail with my experience because I got to use both extensively and there is no real world comparison anywhere on the internet other than the spec sheet which sounds good in favor of the Z, but it's definitely not in real life. Even the quadrant scores were way higher on the Z, but actually the phone felt useless with a few apps open.
