Nexus 6 Nougat Root with SuperSU - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I can't seem to find the answer to this.
I've just flashed the Nougat Factory image for Nexus 6 and want root. Can anyone confirm is the latest SuperSU is compatible? I've flashed TWRP and downloaded the latest SuperSU but just a little hesitant to flash it in case of issues.
Thanks a lot.

Yep I rooted just fine. works ok.

I had no problems with the latest version, which I installed last night (downloaded factory image, extracted to PC and fastboot flashed through bootloader, rebooted to recovery and flashed SuperSU 2.78-SR1).

Perfect. Flashed and working great. Thank you! :good:

If you enjoy having an unknown organization having absolute godlike control over your phone, then sure, use stupidsu.
But if you like to have auditable and sane control over your own device, I would very VERY much suggest that you instead use https://github.com/seSuperuser/AOSP-SU-PATCH

I flashed factory image today and went to Nexus Root Toolkit to root and flash recovery. It went well.

new to Nexus 6, just got Nougat OTA, whats the best way to root and have double tap to wake (will it drain battery big time?) and notification led? pls help, tia
btw I use Mac

Isn't the nexus 6 supposed to be 100% stock Android and with that being able to be rooted by any root method? I know I've read many times that if you want to get into root and hacking to pick up a nexus device as they were easily recoverable and weren't root blocked by any means

Not sure what exactly you're asking but the Nexus 6 is easily rooted when using the proper methods. Unlock the bootloader, fastboot flash TWRP recovery and then flash SuperSU or Magisk in TWRP.

Running 4.2.2 rooted thanks to goolge nexus toolkit!!

For those who want a stock rooted nexus 7 you can find the full 4.2.2 image here,
https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
You can find the nakasi image 4.2.2 and download the tar image.
Then I would download and install the google nexus 7 toolkit here,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1809195
Then install the sdk manager and update.
http://developer.android.com/tools/h...k-manager.html
Once all is installed then in the toolkit make sure you install the android usb drivers. I would then reboot your pc.
Then take the factory tar image and move it into a folder called "put factory image here" in the nexus 7 toolkit program files.
Then follow directions to flash it. You can then after it is flashed follow directions to root it.
Now you have a stock rooted version of 4.2.2. That is what I did and it worked for me. I am no expert by any means. I hope this helps.
I used the Google nexus toolkit from skipsoft and I am very grateful to the developer for this software. It made my efforts easy to get a stock rooted updated rom. I hope anyone else who is not a technical expert like me can use the instructions provided and find them useful.

Did you have to unlock it again or not? Did you lose any of your data?
Thanks , but toolkit and sdk manager links are dead

Try those.
So I downloaded the image, moved the tar to "put_google_factory_image_here" in the toolkit folder. Now what, do I still choose 4.2.1 for my device even though Im currenty 4.2.2? My wife accepted the update yesterday while I was at work . Ive used this toolkit before, but thats when all the version numbers lined up and without having to download anything.

Yes just use it as you normally would even with the wrong version for the device. It still works and will install fine. At least it did for me.
Good luck.
LOL this is too long. Just flash SuperSU zip on unrooted stock.
I have my N7 (GSM version) unlocked, rooted and with clockworkmod recovery.
I donwloaded and installed the OTA (beforehand I had supersu and clockworkmode in "Survival" mode ... When I told the OTA to install, my device rebooted and clockwork recovery took the update zip... after some questions "do you want to keep your bootloader", "do you want to keep recovery", "do you want to keep root" (I only kept recovery and root) everything worked fine.
Now I'm on 4.2.2 with unlocked bootloader, clockworkmod recovery and root whitout any problem or anything deleted.
Cheers!

You will need an unlocked bootloader. You kept it unlocked right?
No need to use this toolkit at all really, I did it all manually yesterday. I just flashed the new image and then flashed supersu

I used install from zip, and it gives me errors. Help me out please.

Can you switch from LMY48W to LMY48T in order to upgrade to 6.0?

Hi, I have an unlocked Nexus 6 bought direct from Google. Somehow it became the AT&T version of 5.1.1 (LMY48W). This means that there is currently no OTA upgrade to Android 6.0 Marshmallow for LMY48W.
However, as there is an upgrade to 6.0 from LMY48T, it is possible to either:
Edit the build.prop to trick the update –*and would this cause any problems?
Change my Nexus 6 to LMY48T some other official way?
1 - I wouldn't.
2 - Yes, by flashing a factory image, but in that case you might as well just move straight to Marshmallow. If you don't want to wipe your phone, just skip flashing the userdata image.
(There's a bunch of guides for this, search or check the stickies.)
1. Even if it did download an update, it wouldn't do anything but cause problems for you as the file verification would fail.
2. Why don't you just download the official factory image for Marshmallow and flash it via fastboot?

It doesn't take much to do it manually. Learn to do things without a toolkit and you'll be much better off.

Rooting MOB30I on Nexus 6

I am brand new to the Nexus 6 but not Android. I cannot for the life of me obtain root with Build Number MOB30I. I got TWRP installed correctly and tried to install SuperSu but after I do and reboot my system, it goes to the "unlocked bootloader" warning then shuts off. What am I doing wrong? I have never had any problems when rooting before. Am i swiping/selecting something wrong when installing SuperSu?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

You need TWRP 3.0.2.0.
When bootloader is unlocked you may try to flash a prerooted rom in TWRP.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3059493
And what version of SuperSU are you using? No reason to use anything but the latest (currently 2.72).
I also have MOB30I and have flashed SuperSU 2.72 in TWRP (3.0.2-0) without any problems
Thanks guys, do I allow system modifications in TWRP or leave it as read only?
Depends... Do you need system to be completely stock (apart from rooting and custom recovery, obviously) for some reason? If the answer is "no" or "I don't know", allow.

Downgrade 7.0 to 5.0

Hello. I want to downgrade my Nexus from 7.0 to 5.0 so i can use xposed again. Can i just flash a 5.0 rom or do i have to flash to the images using a PC?
Sent from my Nexus 6 using XDA-Developers Legacy app
If you have TWRP installed, you can download the 5.0 image to the phone and restart in recovery.
If you don't have an alternative recovery on your Nexus 6, then you'll hav eto flash from a PC via USB with the adb/fastboot from Google.

Hello just be careful with flashing 5.0 bootloader... Not 100% sure but it may brick your phone. Just search a bit more before you downgrade...
Good luck...

You can downgrade... just download factory image 5.1.1 then flash it via adb.
i don't Recommend xposed, but if you want, just flash it.
If you want xposed, why don't you use Marshmallow? Xposed is available (heck, even systemless xposed with Magisk).
To clear up any confusion, you can keep your phone on the latest TWRP recovery, bootloader, and radio and just flash any older ROM no matter if it's based on N, M, or L. Doing an entire factory image is 100% not necessary. If you flash the whole factory image from Google you will wind up with outdated bootloader and radio, and also you will have to put TWRP on it again as it will replace the recovery with stock recovery.

I don't know if it's the case, but if partition table changed with 6.x or 7.x and he downgrades, he could brick it... I remember I saw some reports in the past... Not sure if it was only 5.0 or also 5.1 bootloader...

I totally agree - downgrade to 6.0.1, not 5.1.1 - xposed is available for Marshmallow, no need to step back all the way to Lollipop.

Should be enough... Do a factory reset afterward. 7.x.x datas may be incompatible...

Did you do a clean flash? Like wiping all paritions in TWRP except internal storage. If you don't you're gonna have a bad time.

Which twrp for p10 on 8.0?

So I have spent a lot of time messing around with roms and roots on nougat but I have recently restored my device to factory to use the recent official 8.0 OTA update and I now want to root the device. However with the new kernel Im not sure if I should use a different twrp or I just install the same as I used before with the modified flash command (recovery_ramdisk).
I used to use twrp-3.1.1-0-vtr.img or twrp-3.1.0-0-vtr.img, can I just flash this or do I need an oreo version?
If so what new twrp should I be using?

I guess you should go for 3.2.1-0
I use this since @espaciosalter20 posted it and it works very good, I never noticed any issues. Data encryption works well.
