Is the Verizon Galaxy Tab S2 rootable and retains LTE? - Galaxy Tab S2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Literally on my way to purchase a LTE Galaxy Tab S2 but don't know if I should get the Verizon or Tmobile version. I want the Verizon one but if it can't be rooted without losing LTE, then I will settle for the Tmobile version.
Anyone wants to chime in? I did a quick search but didn't find a clear, straightforward answer.
TIA!

If you know the model number . Maybe it's easier to identify if it's rootable or not .

Damn, I don't know it. I ordered it in-store and it should be delivered eitehr tomorrow or Tuesday. I guess I will keep my fingers crossed that I get a model that is rootable.

Seeing that the Tab S2 for Verizon is not rootable because of the locked bootloader, I have decided to return it and ordered the Asus Zenpad Z10 instead.
I see that the Asus Zenpad Z8 has already been rooted, so i expect the Z10 will probably be rootable as well.
Now I'm wondering if the Tab S2 was a better buy all things considered, over the Zenpad Z10.

No Plans For Galaxy Note 5 64Gb In Canada

No 64 Gb note 5 in canada
I've checked with all the carriers none have plans to carry 64 gb note 5 here in canada. Also they only have sapphire black for some reason for now.. dissappointed was looking forward to buying a note 5 64 gb I think I just might buy a note edge as it has micro SD support. Any suggestions?
This is such a disappointment.
I originally planned on upgrading to the S6 Edge Plus, since I never made any use of the SPEN from my Note 3, so I figured that was a logical decision. I just picked up the phone last Friday (the 21st - launch date) and after spending the weekend playing with it, I've come to realize that I absolutely LOATHE the curved edge screen, and decided to take advantage of Rogers' "Buyers Remorse" policy and return the phone for the Note5 instead.
Until I realized they only offer the 32GB variety. So then I was thinking, f#@% it, I'll just cancel my policy outright and go with a different provider, only to find out that NONE of the Canadian carriers are offering anything but the 32GB variant of the Note5. WHAT THE HELL? Is this 2015 or 2005? If I wanted a 32GB phone, I'd go with a goddamn iPhone.
Now I think I'm stuck with the Edge Plus, not that it's a terrible phone, I just personally don't care for the curved screen as it makes reading text and viewing certain things seem rather annoying, since it can "bend" around the corners of the screen (maybe I'm just used to a flat-screen device, and in time will get used to this thing).
I'm going to see if I can reverse the upgrade altogether and get out of my contract entirely, but knowing Rogers (and even though it's only been 4 days since I renewed my policy) I'm likely screwed or will have to pay $$$ in early cancellation fees. However, if it's feasible, it might be the better option, cancelling my plan outright, paying any and all fees and buying an unlocked or AT&T version of the 64GB Note5 -- rather than settling for a phone I dislike from the get-go.
Bastards.

maybe buy an internation unlocked version? if you're using it on a GSM network, of course. check the supported bands.

yea i am really disappointed myself. having the extra space would be nice. however, there are ways to work around it. I have everything synced up to google drive with 1TB of storage. for daily use i never have an issue with space. when i go on vacation or am away from the house for a while i just access everything on gdrive and download it to my phone when i have watched whats on there already. its easy enough to find wifi in most places.
I checked with Samsung Canada and was told that the 64GB for the Note 5 will be arriving soon. They did not give me the exact date though.

yeah, I looked in so many places for a firmware. I currently have the T-Mobile firmware and I don't like it being the original Bell. Guess I'll just have to wait a little for SamMobile to release the Canadian version of the firmware.
About the root, if you use Netflix, you might encounter some problems. If you are stuck in loading, use this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-galaxy-note5/general/easy-steps-n920t-aoge-odin-twrp-root-t3187422/post62539622#post62539622

I'm a total noob so apologies if this is a ridiculous question. I am also looking for a 64gb N5 for Canada.
I use Wind in Canada. Their web site says,
"The WIND Mobile network uses a frequency called AWS, with bands 1700/2100 MHz".
They list their 32gb Note 5 as:
GSM: 850/900/1800/1900
UMTS: B1(2100),B2(1900),B4(AWS),B5(850)
Now, there is a Taiwan seller of the Note 5 that offers a 64gb version (with dual sim) and they say the phone has:
Cellular Band (2G GSM): GSM850, GSM900, DCS1800, PCS1900
Cellular Band (3G): B1(2100), B2(1900), B5(850), B8(900)
Cellular Band (3G TD-SCDMA): B34(2010), B39(1880)
Cellular Band (4G FDD LTE): Band 1,2,3,4(AWS),5,7,8,12,17,18,19,25,26,28
Cellular Band (4G TDD LTE): B38(2600), B39(1900), B40(2300), B41(2500)
Note that 4th line, which contains AWS. However, it's also the LTE line, which Wind doesn't have.
So, what's the deal here? Will the Taiwanese phone work on Wind or not?
Thank you!
Was checking out the note 5 and s6 edge plus in a Rogers store today. They each have less than 10GB free! WTF?
I've gotta get off the Samsung train I think...
As has been stated before, the store demo phones are loaded with apps and stuff. A new 32GB Note 5 has approx 22GB free.

Canadian galaxy S9/plus thread (waiting room)

Its this time of the year guys! This thread is to discuss pre-orders across all stores and providers in Canada. To compare notes and ask ROBELUS related questions. I personally pulled the trigger for an unlocked (no subsidy) phone through best buy, delivery scheduled for the 16th and then I went back in an through Telus the pick up is on the 9th for some reason so I pulled the trigger on both. What did you order from where? What did you select? Pick up or delivery? Please share.
I'm waiting for benchmarks between sd845 and exynos, in order to decide on which one to pick. I'm probably going exynos route again, shame we Canadians get slammed with the Americans, even if we don't use CDMA networks anymore.

I thought Best Buy did not do this anymore.
I thought you need to buy a carrier subsidized device ?
I am not going to the S9 anyway, I just do not want another device where I will need to wait for at least a year after Android P is released to get it, also I do not want Samsung Bloat you know like Bixby.
...but I am curious will check the Best Buy website, sure enough for only $1100, plus tax and shipping I can get an unlocked device sent to my home. Thanks for pointing this out.

Hey guys. Thread moved to https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s9-plus/how-to/canadian-s9-thread-waiting-t3756539

[Q] Which version should I get?

After a few years with my Samsung Galaxy Note Edge (AT&T) [SM-N915A], which wasn't bad until the last 6 months and then the inability to root it made it worse, I want to make my next upgrade worth it. I'm waiting for the 500 Gb version, and I want to be able to root it.
Of course, my eyes are on the Note 9, but which version should I buy?
International (SM-N960F)

International because it gets updates faster
And it has more development support (custom roms, kernels, etc)
Also ive been in this situation with the at&t note 4 ?
Looks like at&t doesnt want us to root our devices
So dont get at&t

Simply put, If root is what you seek on Samsung devices these days, Don't get any of the U.S. carrier editions of the phone.
All of the U.S. Samsung devices ship with Snapdragons and Samsung has ultimately decided to lock all bootloaders on them as well, That's not to say that a Dev won't attempt to work on atleast a root method for Snapdragon devices but with a locked bootloader you won't be able to do much.
Samsung's also implemented a rather interesting tactic to deter rooting on Snapdragon devices, When they're rooted, The device will no longer be able to charge to 100% and instead will default to 80% only.
This can be demonstrated on the S8 and the Note 8.
The S9 Snapdragon U.S. variants still don't have root to this day, When and if it ever does, that same method may be usable to figure out the Note 9 as well, But don't get your Hope's up.
Now for the international and Unlocked devices they ship with an Exynos and subsequently unlocked bootloaders which allows for the creation of Mods, Roms, And the various other things most people root for nowadays.
All in all, You want an Exynos equipped Note 9, Hope this is useful for you.
Thanks,
Almost right after the the post I came upon this article
https://highonandroid.com/android-deals/best-deals-on-galaxy-note-9-new-galaxy-phones/
it goes a bit more in depth, covering GSM vs CDMA, when and where to buy it.
It seems that the Latin America Galaxy S9 and S9+ (SM-G9650) both had Snapdragon processors with an unlockable bootloader. You could then Odin firmware on them to be able to use them on Verizon, At&t, and T-mobile. I hope they will release a Snapdragon model of the Note 9 as well in Latin America! I need an unlocked bootloader on Verizon for sure.

It doesnt matter anymore which type of note 9 you get, because there is gonna be root protection where imei and network flies if you root, like the a8 on oreo
And also i agree with you, US carriers (especially at&t) prevent root all the way up to the fact that you cant root at all (the at&t note4 has no root but all the other note 4's have root)

I'm interested in the unlocked version instead of the T-Mobile, but I've read that the bands are not the same and wifi calling doesn't work. I'm over flashing ROM's, so that isn't an option for me. I'll probably get the carrier branded one to make sure I get the 600 band and wifi calling.

I have the old gUDP plan so I need a phone that does NOT check for hotspot eligibility. I understand the unlocked Note 8 did NOT check, so it's likely the unlocked Note 9 would be okay as well. So I'm definitely stuck with the US unlocked version, right?
Geez, I kind of hate both Verizon and Samsung, but I want to stay on gUDP and want a good phone that will work for me out of the box.

My understanding:
Verizon model WILL check for hotspot eligibility and thus won't work for us.
International unlocked models will not work on Verizon's network.
Therefore, we're stuck with the US Unlocked model. It has a locked bootloader, and thus may never be rootable, but will work with Verizon and NOT check hotspot eligibility.
To be clear, at this point I just think it's very likely the US Unlocked model will NOT check hotspot eligibility. I will probably wait to confirm that before I pull the trigger.

Can I trade in a device with a custom ROM on it for the note 9?

Pretty much the question in the title.
I've got a note 3 that's dying rather quickly and has been mostly a pain.
The final price is 500 euros via carrier so the deal is massively good.
Yes / No.
Here i describe if you are going direct through Samsung and the below is taking from the UK site T&C but most likely be the same worldwide
If you have not rooted and not tripped Knox then yes if you put a stock rom back on it. If you have tripped Knox then most def No as its stated in the T&C's

Lol... your not going to see root on the US snapdragons. Unlocked or carrier, BL is locked either way.
Root hasn't appeared on the S9 yet so unlikely the note will get it either.

Help Please ! which one to buy ? N9600 or N960U or N960U1

Hi guys i am new to this forum. Have downloaded roms and kernels before but never actually asked a question.
Any ways i tried finding an answer and i have seen alot of guys talking about the snap dragon on the note 9 not root able but i would like to know if any one actually knows any major differences between the N9600, N960U and N960U1 before i go and buy one and then realize WTF did i do.
I live in Canada and all N9600, N960U and N960U1 are compatable with the network that i am trying to use them for.
i do know that N9600 is for china or international market (correct me if i am wrong) and the N960U and N9601 are for US market only.
i was looking at on custom firmware thread where they were talking about the wifi calling feature and some other features that dont work and they were trying to install N960U1 custom firmware.
I also saw in 1 forum where someone from the US bought the N9600 and was not able to set the phone to us time or somehing like that or use samsung pay because the phone would show his location in china.
So please help me i would really appreciate it. it is a very expansive phone and i want to be sure.
Thanks in advance.
Depends. What do you want to do with the phone?
I have the N9600 and it works excellent on T Mobile. Also is the only Snapdragon model that has root. I also flashed mods to get all the features of the carrier version. Seems also faster without all the bloatware. I am running a custom rom as well.

Nah I bought it on Ebay for a good price. I paid 620$ on black Friday. Way cheaper than financing from the carrier.

Depends. What do you want to do with the phone?

For daily use. i am the kind of person who buys new phone and keeps his phone till it breaks and fixing it is not worth it.
Rite now i am using a Note Edge N915T. Bought it brand new from ebay unlocked but was from T mobile. my screen is cracked and to replace it, its arround 200 - 250 CAD (digitizer, screen and frame). so who not put that money towards a new phone. Also its very slow now.
Sorry for that long drawn story. I dont think i will be ever rooting the note 9 but if i would need to, i might.

Then getting a N960U or N960U1 is probably your best bet if you don't plan on rooting. In my opinion, rooting isn't needed anymore. You can adblock and disable apps without it. And with the N960U or U1, everything will work with no fuss, inlcuding Samsung Pay.
If you have to have root, then you'll need the N9600 or N960F. But once you u lock the bootloader, you trip Knox PERMANENTLY and lose Samsung Pay, Samsung Pass, Secure Folder PERMANENTLY. NOT reversible. Even if you don't unlock the Bootloader, you probably won't get Samsung Pay to work in the US, since it's region locked. Some people have got it to work, but jumped through hoops.

No. All Note 9s from T-Mobile are N960U.
