Google assistant on our Huawei P8 Lite - P8lite General

Hey everyone, I have successfully got assistant from google to work on the P8 Lite.
Here is a quick tutorial on how to get it on your device.
Requirements:
* Rooted MM 6.0
* Custom Recovery like TWRP
* Google App Beta ( https://goo.gl/SsMHkA ) use Google App provided from link, newer versions seems to break Assistant
* Xposed framework ( https://goo.gl/TYZ22v )
* N-ify Xposed Module ( https://ci.paphonb.xyz/jenkins/job/AndroidN-ify/ )
1. Get Xposed installed on your device by following instructions in the link provided
2. Download and install N-ify Xposed Module
3. Reboot device
4. Install Google app beta
5. Go to apps in settings and clear data from installed google app
6. Long press home key and google assistant should open
7. When first running assistant select do it later for voice setup as this will crash the assistant.
None of this work is my own and so I take no responsibility if you damage your device and won't be answering questions either.
I have followed this procedure on my own P8 Lite with Sokkoban's B574 rooted and deodexed ROM installed and it's working fine for me.
Here is a link to youtube for instructions if you prefer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ES3CZdUgoo

Tested on B560 official rom. No bugs uptill now.

Its work! THX!!

Hey guys, just a heads-up, the Ok Google hot word doesn't work, it will ask you to retrain every time you try to use it. Haven't found a solution for this yet, but will keep you updated if anything comes up.

Also I am unable to change settings of Google assistance. Whenever I ask about weather it gives temperature in Fahrenheit(I use Celsius) which is a bit annoying.

Quick update
I updated the Google App to the latest BETA from apkmirror which seemed to break Assistant, I am going to reinstall the Google App from the link provided in first post to see if it will fix this problem. Will post result.
Update 2:
I uninstalled updates for Google App and also deactivated N-ify and uninstalled it, then just followed the steps in first post and Assistant is working again.

I'm having issues with speaking "OK, Google" when I'm doing this, Google assistant opens voice recognition configuration Everytime

If you check the thread, you'll see that I did mention that the "Ok Google" hotword does not work. There is currently no fix for this unfortunately. If a fix becomes available, I will update the first post.

Works fine. Hope there will ba a Solution for the OK Google hotword Bug soon.

Enable Google Assistant on N5

So, i found a method to turn our Nexus 5 into a Pixel phone and enable the Google Assistant. Read everything before doing anything!
The link to the post is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/and...-assistant-t3477879/post69074667#post69074667
Instructions:
Download 3 zip files linked in the post. Flash the Velvet zip through TWRP first. Next one is the edited build.prop zip. Make sure the tweak.prop is in the same folder/directory as the other 2 files!!!
The tweak.prop is not for flashing. Just keep it in the same folder. After you flashed the other two, simply reboot and go to Settings>Apps>Google App>Storage>Clear all Data. Go back to your homescreen and make sure you had now on tap activated. Press the home button longer so Now-on-Tap plays its animation and what you should get instead of Google Now is the Assistant saying Hello to you!
Known Issues:
Ok, Google recognition.
Thats it. My first thread so im open for questions.
This Method is not by me!!! Im just sharing it .All credits go to FaserF.
I'm running it on pure nexus 7.0.. Its pretty sweet. Its like the siri we never had lol. Not as wide of conversation range as siri, but I'm sure that gets updated with time.

There is no fix for it, but you can automate the "skip" process with tasker. There is a post with images and another one with a text description on [this thread page](http://forum.xda-developers.com/and...ow-to-enable-google-assistant-t3477879/page40)
It works pretty well though saying "ok google" for a followup question starts the assistant over and loses it's context. Hopefully someone will get this fixed soon.

It's easy to enable google assistant using Build.prop by changing ro.product.model=Pixel XL and add this at the end:
ro.opa.eligible_device=true.
But anyway thanks for your thread

better yet, as you're rooted and if you have the latest xposed framework (v87) and xposed installer (v3.1.1) simply download and install the "assistant enabler (v3.1)" module, activate and reboot. it's much cleaner and easy to uninstall if you so choose; and "ok google" command works perfectly.
edit: xposed is not available for Android N (nougat).
the xposed module that allows for "google assistant" is on marshmallow.
i'm currently running this on cm13 latest nightly on an lg g3 d850 without any problems.

[APP] Google Assistant on HTC One M8!

Ever wondered how to get the new Google Assistant on your HTC One M8? Here is the ultimate answer.
What you need:
- A rooted device
- Custom ROM (Not compulsory but suggested)
- Xposed Installed (Guides online or follow the official XDA thread)
- Xposed App
Instructions:
- Go to Xposed app > 'Downloads'
- Search for Android N-ify' or just 'N-ify'
- Download and activate the module
- Congrats! You have Google Assistant, launch as normal. :fingers-crossed::laugh:
Any questions? PM me or quote me, pretty active. :good:
You forgot about Google App (Beta) and the right "n-ify" apk is not on the xposed app, you need to install manually.

I will point out though that it crapped out on me not long after i started messing with the header settings in N-ify and I had to remove xposed to get my phone working again

Tried the steps, but still facing that softbrick thingy. For some reason, if I install other than from xpose app, it goes to that softbrick.
Currently using exposed v86. Not sure if that's what you mean by "latest". Would want to update to the later version, but I read that I need Magisk? I can't do that because I haven't unlock my bootloader yet.

basically GA is exclusive to pixel phones and in this method we are using the official app, so hot word issue gonna exist until someone find a way to fix it.
I found a workaround for OK Google. 'ChopAssistant' Install this app, enable accessibility service, and voila. Say okay Google and Google assistant pops up.
Thanks to Daniel F Q for this app.
flashable zip works
the flashable zip method works but it has no memory. as soon as you ext the app it loses memory.
Will this trigger the assistant when the phone is dosing/locked?
How is the compatibility with the speech recognition chip that can wake/unlock your Moto with its counterpart in the pixel in general?
I hope this is not off topic.

Question Restore from Google Backup

Apologies if this has been answered already - I've searched and not found an answer.
I've just received my China version; having installed Google Play, is there any way to force a restore of a Google backup of my previous phone - it would be so much easier if it could (re)install my apps and settings in one go. I can't seem to find a way to do it.
Thanks
Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I think restoring from Google backups is only possible during the initial configuration. And China ROM doesn't have Google Play 'out of the box', it needs to be installed by the user. So I'm afraid it's not possible. But again, I could be wrong.
I would recommend unlocking the bootloader and flashing either the Global ROM or Xiaomi.EU. Preferably Xiaomi.EU because Global ROM is significantly behind with updates.
I couldn't test it but if you have installed google playstore and the google app basic android should be available. Then you can "restart" the inital setup via adb command:
adb shell am start -n com.google.android.setupwizard/.SetupWizardActivity
That should run the google setupwizard. I can't try it as I have already .eu rom on my phone installed and there it is available from scratch.

Starting: Intent { cmp=com.google.android.setupwizard/.SetupWizardActivity }

Ah - this is what I was afraid off. With installing google playstore the google setup is still missing. You could try the Android Setup Wizard from Google from APK mirror. This should install the missing files. But I really can't confirm that this will work. In worst case you need to do a factory reset. Or you just install the .eu rom and all problems gone .

The trick was – as you say – to install a fresh version from the Google play store and not to use the version which was already installed on the phone from the xiaomi App Store.
Once I did that, it worked a treat!!

Thanks - I may try that next time, although it's quite pricey at $40 per year or a bit more for an outright purchase
