unlock Verizon droid 4 for use in EU (SOLVED) - Motorola Droid 4

Hi
Any advise on unlocking my recently bought Verizon Droid 4? I tried the service from sim-unlock.net and they seem to have troubles doing it, because the device uses CMDA and cannot be unlocked by code.
I am stuck right now and searching for a solution mainly provided unsuccessful stories or questions without answers. I have tried the default 000000 and 123456 and they failed and have only one more try left
Please keep in mind I don't live in the US and calling Verizon can be pretty costly. I've seen a post of someone calling Verizon for hours and never managed to unlock his phone.
Phone bought on ebay from a seller in the US should be unlocked to be used on a GSM network in Europe. I already bought a pre-paid sim card

Just replying to my own post to give an update.
The code that was prompted to enter was not to unlock it from the previous carrier, but the sim unlock code from the pre-paid card.
After unlocking that I could immediately start calling with it. So I assume this Droid is already unlocked... I was totally surprised by that, I was convinced that unlocking was necessary (it was even mentioned by the seller from ebay)
While investigating this I found out you can call to the US very cheap (1 ct / minute) by some services. So I've learned a few useful things
Now my next challenge will be to install cyanogenmod on the Droid

Imho all Droid 4's are GSM unlocked. GSM is what's been used in the EU so it will work just fine.
They are only locked to Verizon in the US (CDMA instead of GSM).

Droid 3 - Unlockable

Since the 12th, I have been trying to find an unlock for the phone, and stumbled upon a seller who goes by Swiftunlocks. He has provided excellent service, and his unlock code for the Droid 3 works 100%. I would recommend his service to anyone who wishes to have their phone unlocked. He charges a fee, but he's also the only one around to unlock phones for people who aren't with Verizon.
If you go on eBay and search this
verizon droid 3 unlock
You can find his services His support was excellent as well because even when out of business hours, he sent me my unlock codes minutes after paying.
But i dont think we can use this phone here in us with gsm even after unlock.
And why shouldn't GSM work after an unlock in the USA, you think?

The T-Mobile and AT&T bands are locked out, even with the SIM slot unlocked. Verizon does this with pretty much all of their global Android phones. It's presumably because they're the exclusive carrier for them in the US, so they don't want anyone being able to use them on another major US carrier.
Hmm weird stuff out there in the USA =)
And if I buy a Droid 3 in the USA, buy an unlockcode and unlock this Droid 3.
Can I use it on GSM-network here in Europe (the Netherlands) or isn't that possible?
Here we also have T-Mobile as a provider, will that work? And Vodafone? That's what I have...
I'm gonna start a topic here on XDA about the best 'version' of the Droid 3 for using in Europe / The Netherlands. You have the Motorola XT883 version in China, you have the Droid 3 version in the USA and there is the Motorola XT860 4G in Canada..
But that's offtopic, I'm gonna start a new thread about that!
I'm not an expert at this, but they should work if the bands are the same. They locked out the AT&T bands on the Verizon Droid 2, im not sure about the droid 3.

The GSM and UMTS bands that are supported in Droid3 Global will not work in the United States. The GSM and UMTS bands are only able to be utilized outside the U.S. A GSM SIM card such as AT&T or T-Mobile will not operate in the U.S.

I need to know if the phone will be unlocked for International use if bought from the Motorola store.
I can tell you in about one week...
I will hold you to that then. A week it is...

No, it won't be.
If it has the Droid 3 name (which means it's the Verizon version of the phone), the SIM slot will be locked regardless of where you buy it. Some versions released in other countries (like the XT860 4G in Canada) may or may not be SIM locked. That remains to be seen. But anything called the Droid 3 will be SIM locked out of the box from any retailer, even Motorola.
An unlockcode will cost you about $30,- so that isn't a problem

I suppose it will be locked, too, but I'm not sure. On the Motorola store site, nowhere Verizon is mentioned -- moreover, when needed, they generally refer to "your servive provider". And nowhere anything is said about a locking, not even in the "Product Disclaimer" link.
I will eventually know when I got the phone. Of course I'm prepared to pay $30 for unlocking, but if I have to, I'll write a complaint to Motorola.
Could someone please provide a link to a reliable service for unlock codes. I couldn't find anyone on Ebay with the name swiftunlocks...

Then I'd go ahead and get that complaint typed up and that money for unlocking ready to go.
They use "your service provider" because they sell phones for different service providers. It's easier to have a blanket statement rather than tailoring the statement to every single device. Verizon pays for the rights to use the "Droid" name. So any device with that Droid name is the Verizon version of the phone. There's no reason why Verizon would allow devices with the name they paid for the rights to (through a very costly deal with LucasFilm no doubt) to come unlocked to be used on other carriers if they aren't allowing it for all of the phones. In the end, if you buy it directly from Motorola, you'll just pay $65 more ($525 vs $460) than you would if you bought it outright from Verizon for the exact same locked phone.
Hello, anyone? where should I get the phone unlocked from? would be great if anyone could give me a link.

Go to ebay and search for droid 3 unlock. You'll find sellers: freedomobile and unlock_fusion.
I don't know if they will work, but more than 99% of their customers is positive about them. Keep us posted when you try it out.
I just hope everyone understands what "unlock" you are getting as it is NOT the boot loader. Seems like on other forums they think its a boot loader unlock
Got my D3 from Motorola store. As expected, it was SIM locked. But I can confirm too that codes from swiftunlocks work!
Fantastic! Motorola owe you a commission for selling another Droid 3 -- to me!
Like others, I couldn't find a retail site for swiftunlocks on ebay - I must be doing something wrong - but as others said, if you search ebay for "Droid 3 unlock" you will get a couple links to other sellers of unlock codes but
BEWARE
they say in the small print that they can only send the codes via post! (snailmail) per ebay regulations!

[Q] Unlock question

Hello I'm in canada and bought a Droid 3 (verizon) from ebay
I will unlock it with a code that is available from well known sources (swiftunlock, etc..)
the description says 'Ready to Activate' so this worried me abit, doe sit have to be activated thru verizon before the phone will even work or do anything
or can i punch in the unlock code (based on its IMEI) and start using it regardless of whether it is 'activated' or not
what im worried about is, if it hasnt been activated, will its unlock code (based on IMIE) even show up to these unlockers, or is the code generated right away when a phone is manufactured and stamped with an IMEI regardless of activation
THanks!
You don't need to have it activated on Verizon to unlock the GSM part.
You can easily bypass the activation by tapping in the four corners of the screen on the activation prompt.
As soon as it sees the foreign SIM it will prompt you for unlock code. Given you got an unlock code for it, you should be able to unlock it.
There are some horror stories with the older Droid 2 Global - some of them were custom locked by Verizon and standard unlock codes unlockers provide do not work.
I haven't heard yet of somebody successfully unlock a D3 using online unlock service (only Verizon Global support is known to provide unlock codes that work so far). But it has been couple of weeks since D3 is available, maybe unlockers are getting those codes already. Please keep us posted!
Personally I am going to wait for the Canadian XT860 that is coming shortly to Bell. Since I have some not so pleasant experience with the buggy Droid 2 Global radio/baseband and given the fact Droid 3 uses the same chipset (Qualcomm MSM6600), chances are GSM/UTMS radio of D3 suffers from the same issues D2G does.
From another side - D3 is cheaper than XT860. I am sure Bell will charge at least $550 for it, if not even $600 (and tax), D3 comes much cheaper at $475 US (even US-CDN$ rate is favourable) at non-contract price.
Keep us posted on how it goes with your D3!
There was a report of succesful unlock here in the forum, and now I confirm this too.
The code from swiftunlocks worked. I contacted the guy in advance, he told me about 90% D3 can be unlocked. And at least for me, it worked. I can really recommend his servive.

I wrote him an email to [email protected] (had it from ebay, wanted to ask him if he _really_ can unlock D3), he responded very quickly and offered me the code for $20. Had the code a few hours later. Really can recommend.
And no, I don't think it will work with U.S. GSM providers.

Unlock verizon droid 3 by flashing to use sim

i BEEN TRYING TO UNLOCK MY DROID 3 BY CODE AND IT HAS BEEN IMPOSSIBLE. I AM OUTSIDE THE USE AND EVEN WHEN I INPUT THE CODE THAT VERIZON GAVE ME I HAVE NO SUCCESS. THEY TOLD ME THAT THE PHONE HAS TO BE ACTIVATED ON VERIZON FOR IT TO UNLOCK. IS IT TRUE. IS THERE ANOTHER WAY TO UNLOCK IT.
I HAVE RDS LITE I FLASH MY PHONE TO THE ORIGINAL VERIZON AGAIN BUT IT DID NOT WORK. HELP PLEASE
1) Drop the caps. It's against the rules and is downright annoying.
2) Maybe can you call Verizon and see if they can manually program it, even if it is a dead number? Or have you even tried calling tech support?

Maybe U have wrong code. I have Droid 3 from Verizon. I live in Poland and I don't have a problem to unlock and using in 3G with my polish simcard. And I didn't have to activate phone in verizon...
Verizon tends to alter unlock codes on their global phones lately - not all but some I guess as some people unlock fine, others have issues. Same was with Droid 2 Global last year. All phones from 'first wave' weren't issue to unlock, but afterwards it got hit or miss..
There is no 'hardware unlock' available so far AFAIK. And might not show unless boot loader gets unlocked (since then we can thinker with baseband).

I live in Germany and had no problem unlocking the Droid 3 with the Code bought from swiftunlock.
I think it is a question of "how new" the phone was. From what I learned by reading all those threads on many forums (and I think it is correct, since mine was unlocked easily as well):
- if you buy a phone that was never ever connected to verizon, the unlock works and you don't need to activate it with VZW (the activation request just disappears and you can use it like any non VZW model, except for the USSD restrictions and so on).
- if you get a phone that somebody already activated for you, you will most likely be busted. VZW does change the unlock keys OTA.
The best idea seems to be: make sure to get your phone from somebody who assures you that it's never been activated or connected to VZW via 2G/3G.
Mine was never activated and i am in Colombia even called Verizon and a rep gave me an unlock code but it did not work. it has been almost one month.
I unlocked fine and I flashed mine to cricket....

D3 locked+Subsidy+Turbosim...no luck... any hope?

Hello!
Well, I am really pissed by now... after 3 weeks waiting, finally I received a turbosim clone, that according a research to my best, it could be the more probably such class device to be able to allow the locked d3 to connect at least... but NO luck... :-(
As reference to help other around here... the device was:
SMARTPHONE Sim Unlock Card and could check info for ebay item Item number: 270690911540.
I bought this, since after a long research, seems that in case of Droid 2+turbosim success, the key feature was that the sim must be the more recent possible (2011) and with Moto SidKick model losted, since this appears to be the key for success.
Well, by now, the "turbosim" seems that is recognized since the phone after boot with my local network sim installed with turosim stick to it, dont asks for Unlock Network code, BUT also do not reognize my network and do not allow clas none any kind of connection except for dial 911/112 numbers.
At this point I wonder if this is due that the phone is in Subsidy mode after the initial failed attempts to unlock with codes of internet sellers (4 diferent sellers, all have the same 2 codes, and also both fails...).
So by now without be in USA and without be a Verizon Customer, seems that I really pissed...
By now, I would like too share my bad result in order to save some money to another friend around here that may be wonder about try this turbosim option...
As a last hope, I by now wonder if I may be somewhat better luck, if I try to flash the XT883 rom, so I wonder and ask if may be some help/ inof about:
1) Flashing the XT883, may be possible that reset the SUDSIDY mode status, so, may be possible to the turbosim to recognize my local networks and allow calls?connections?...
2) May be posible that the radio part of the XT883 flash could help with the point 1 or with try again the unlock codes?
3) Is the chinese Xt883 rom still in study/hacking process for some kind developer(s) around her that may have a help with the hard locked D3?
4) May be possible that flashing some kind of rom from motorola, may be possible that the unlock could be made with the codes available (that seems that are the Moto original ones, but that after a phone is activated in Verizon network, ?they could be changed by verizon system OTA)...
Thanks for any help and best regards!
Why mess with a turbosim when you can unlock the phone with 10$ ?
Hi Solutor!
Thanks for reply... well, in fact, turbosim was my last approach, since middle september, I pass the proccess of bought unlock codes from 4 different sellers on internet, and 2 of them sold me the same 2 codes, and both codes fails, and in fact put my phone in Subsidy mode... the other 2 sellers after I send the codes and IMEI of my phone in order that they check if they may have a different code, both reply me that they have also the same 2 codes that previously fails... this point was reached by october begins... so I look for an option and found about Turbosim partial success on Droid 2 forums, so try to research and try by bought one that may seems the more possible for droid 3... but no luck....
By now, as I said, my phone is still Locked + in Subsidy mode, and by now I wonders if a Radio section flashing may help in my case, with unlock (not every probably...) or at least to make the turbosim that I already have may be recognized my network... (not sure if could be a improve in some way...)
May You have knowledge of a unlock code provider, that may be recently succesfull in unlock a Droid 3, that was activated on verizon, and that after that, the D3 was succesfully unlocked meanwhile is on an outside USA verizon network?... if so, I am very glad if You could give some suggestion.
Anyway, over all, thanks again for take time to reply, and best regards to all around here too.

Ok, I understand.
I've unlocked w/o any problem my Droid 3 (in Italy)
http://www.motorola-unlocking.com/unlock_Motorola_Droid-3.html
and (few hours ago) a Droid 2 global, here
http://www.theunlockshack.com/
In the D2g case I used a different provider because the former (for unknown reasons) asks 10$ for D3 and 20$ for D2g
The sim I used was a Vodafone Italy one, in both cases, I don't know if that matters, but given the relation between Verizon and Vodafone I decided that a vodafone sim was better than another.
P.S. I have zero experience with turbosims so I can't help with it, sorry.

[UNLOCK] What to do now?

Hi everyone,
i got a Sprint HTC One M8 from ebay, it is new but i was planning to use it on AT&T network, since it have a Sim Card Slot. Furthermore, even though i'm living on the US now, i'm from Brazil and i was planning to use the phone there as well.
And now starts the problem.
I called the previous owner, asked him to contact sprint to make the sim unlock procedure. He did so, providing me the MSL for the phone. The next step, he said, was to "flash" the phone on AT&T in order to get it connected to their network. I tried several sims, even bought a new one and activated it but with no success.
I spend almost 2 hours on the phone with the sprint's international support, and all they said was that they did everything that they could about unlocking my phone and now i should contact AT&T.
I'm afraid of staying on this infinite loop and i want your opinion.
Does anyone in fact unlocked their SPRINT phone to use on another GSM US carrier? If yes, what did you do? Because i'm planning to return the phone and ask for my money back.
BUT, with the "International Unlock" i should be able to use the phone on ANY international carrier? Because if that is the case, maybe i keep the phone to use when i go back to Brazil.
Thank you very much!

On the CDMA version of the M8, it lacks the LTE bands needed for Domestic carriers. You can use it overseas somewhat, but not too well. If I was you, I'd grab a Droid Turbo for ~$200-$250 off eBay. It just recently got its bootloader unlocked finally
