Tmobile forcing me to pay off my Note 7 - T-Mobile Note 7 Questions & Answers

Did anyone else get this? I was financing my Note 7 through Tmobile and I got my phone bill with the full charge of my phone.
I understand why they are doing it. Just sucks. I can't afford to pay off all $900 at once. I guess they are finally forcing me to return it.

It's a recalled device. Tmobile still owns it until it's paid off. They can't own this anymore.
The phone is dead. No support. No insurance.

If they do this to me I HAVE to return it asap.

No I didn't, when did you get it and how did they send it to you?
Sent from my SM-N930T using XDA-Developers mobile app

Yeah I guess they tried that with me but I show a credit of the phone on my account page. Maybe cause I called last week to get details and they said they were going too follow up next week

I'm under my sister's account who works for tmobile. So our regular phone bill was +$900(the cost of the phone). When she looked into to it, she was told that i need to pay off the phone.

More than likely it is because she is an employee, as an employee she is held to a different standard when it comes to protecting the brand. Turn the device in so your sister doesn't get in trouble for not following proper procedures.

It is likely they force people to pay off phones so ownership of phone would be transfered from Tmobile to customer and Tmobile wouldn't be responsible for any future lawsuits.

That's true... It's possible. Yes i will be doing that this week sadly.

Is it that the credit for the first N7 you turned in hasn't applied yet to your account? I had an $871 bill on tmobile till yesterday because the credit for the first N7 I turned in didn't apply. I went to the store, they made a phone call and my bill is down to $90. All I have on my account now is the EIP balance for the second N7 that I haven't surrendered yet. Try calling them and ask what is going on.

My bill somehow turned to negative $650 when I turned mine in

Actually the way I see it, if OP paid the bill in full, then T-mo would be selling at that point recalled device that shouldn't be sold at all and me think that would be illegal regardless of any possible future lawsuits, but I'm not a lawyer, also the fact it is under T-mo employee account makes it even more tricky. Either way they will probably put some deadlines in place soon, so free ride may end soon for everybody.

how did that happen. so your current phone N7 shows no more payments needed?

I have a similar issue. They had to escalate it to see where it went wrong. They removed the EIP, they have the phone, they credited only 425 of the eip. Waiting to hear back. The lady did state I was NOT the first to call in with issues relating to the 2nd recall.

I had similar situation as you. Yesterday I have received an SMS from T-mobile with my next bill due November 12th. Amount $519. $380 is an amount for galaxy note 4 that was waived the moment I upgraded to Note 7, plus I could keep the Note 4.
Just 2 days earlier I saw $90 as my next bill on tmo website.
So I went to T-mobile store. Explained all to the manager and he called T-mobile billing department and they rectified the my bill back to what it suppose to be. Today on T-mobile website I still see EIP outstanding balance of $780 for the note 7 as I write this.
I think that the carrier(s) are trying different tricks to let us part with our Note 7. Harassment so to speak.
The most ironic thing is that the manager in the store was on my side. Pulling out of his pocket Note 7 and saying until the recall is mandatory he will keep it too. With the smile on his face. This is no joke. I felt like I found an ally.
Also they had v20. (not on display but in the back of the store) So I could have it in my hands.
I was toying with the idea of jumping the ship before but after playing with v20 for few minutes, there is no way that I go for this device.

Has not happen to me but if it does im going to be piss and will probably leave samsung and tmobile altogether.
I try to play nice and was going to return the phone, even know i dont want to.
But every tmobile store i call tells me there out of stock of s7 edge and to just keep calling.
Went online ans there out of stock until Nov or Dev.
Not the kicker here they dont even carry the black s7 edge any more. Which i traded mines in for the note 7 at launch. And now gotta start all over with payments and now they dont even have them on in there systems any more.
And to top all that.
Samsung website is out of stock also. Without a date.
And there are reports that the s7 edge are catching fire also.
So all this is turning into crap.
But yes i can see tmobile doing this.
Getting the end user to pay it off and deal with samsung direct for the exchanges and problems with the phone.
And thats how they get you to return it. You dont wanna pay it all off so they , tell you, you can exchange it for another device and they will credit you whatever you already paid.
I guess we shall see what happens.
Samsung is releasing a UK update to kill charging to 60%.
This will got ota on the 30 or 31

I had the same thing happen see my attached upcoming bill but I'm gonna argue it because they ****ed up and are charging me for my previous Note 7 the one I returned.....idiots

[Q] Buy Phone Outrgiht at T-mobile Headaches ?

Since right now online sales are filled with scalpers overpricing for the first time ever i might just buy the phone in the store outright. I usually purchase them online. Anyway, I have a t mobile account can i just pay and get the phone. Will they try to bundle/change or add stuff onto my plan ?
Anyone have a past experience with other phone purchases ?
I've never had a problem. If there is a better plan they'll let you know. I only preordered this time due to the Samsung promotion.
And by the way... this phone is amazing.

If you go into the store with the seven hundred and change in hand then no. However they still will try and push stuff on you but it's no different then what I did with pre ordering the phone and when it showed up on saturday I just went online and paid it off. It would be different if you didn't have a plan with then I could see them giving you grief over it or some BS about not having any units they can sell at the moment.
I just bought GS5 for my wife in the store, they mentioned if I want insurance, I said no and it was the end of it, but she may have switch me to paperless statement without asking or saying so, my bill is due in 2 weeks so I should see soon enough.

Online I am pretty sure you can't buy phones without a plan. You will have to deal with a human in person or maybe over the phone but more then likely you have to go to a store.

Now, while it still is in pre-order phase, you need to purchase a plan with it, even at full price. Same goes with the stores. You can only purchase 1 phone per existing line or sign-up/add a line for every Note 4 pre-ordered.
This might change after the official release on the 17th , given a few weeks.

I have a plan already. figured it out , to order you have to go to upgrade a line. It lets you pay full price at once. My main concern now is that if anything is wrong with the phone I have to mail it back to them instead of return it in the store and you will be left hanging for a while. Will decided over the next few days what i want to do. Anyone have any experience ordering from them online ?

Yes, that's the way it is. Others fix this by ordering another unit, get charged for the purchase then get credit when the other phone is returned
By the 17th it would be available in stores. I think they will sell you one without adding a line if you show them your return label for the defective phone. Depends whom you deal with. Ymmv.
Stay positive, your phone will be fine.

Screen Burn In

I am so not happy about this. I had many other issues with my Note 4 and now I just noticed this strange microphone in the right corner. It is very faint in the picture but noticeable. Has anyone else had screen burn in on the s6 or am I the only poor sap? Now I have to go through the exchange warranty BS. Every time they give me an exchange warranty replacement I get a phone with more problems than the last. I was so happy with this phone since I got it brand new except for ram management issues but now this. I dont even know what stupid app burned in that microphone symbol. Probably another gift from Google. Ughhhh.

My S6 has a dark spot in the top left corner. I can only see it on certain backgrounds. I would exchange it, but it didn't effect anything. The device functions as good as can be expected for what it is. You said it yourself, even you do an exchange the next device is worse than the previous. Not worth the chance to me.
Don't you guys have warranty through Samsung still? Manufacturer warranty rarely replaces your phone most of the time they repair it. I think if you request they repair it there is no chance of getting a different phone unless it's fubar.
Unfortunately Tmobile hires a third party company to do the exchanges. It is the same company that handle the insurance claims, like if you drop your phone and brek the screen.
Try n disable S-voice, it may go away..let me know if it does.

No, you don't talk to tmobile at all for manufacturer warranty. The only downside to getting it repaired with Samsung is you might be without a phone for up to 3 weeks. I guess if knox is tripped they might deny the repair but if that happens they would just send your phone back. I have a feeling they would just slap the guts of the old phone in a new frame (that should include new screen) then make sure it boots up without even checking the warranty bit.

Personally I'll pick repairing my phone over a refurb any day. Plus 90% of the time you need to pay a deductible with Tmobile, Samsung is free. To each their own, I have spare phone and can go a few weeks without this one if need be.

That's good to know. I think I would still rather get it repaired than possibly getting 20 refurb lemons before finally getting one without any issues. I'm a weirdo when it comes to pre used devices, the littlest thing will bug me.

I was just looking through the S6 forum and saw this thread and Minnesotans at that lol.
I had that experience with my Z3 on my 8th currently, first 4 brand new in store exchanges (14 day period), last four exchanges occurred recently after many months hey were refurbs and they actually they send the devices to the manufacturer and then get them repaired and send them back to TMO so its pretty much the same as getting your device repaired but with a faster turn around time, ie 1 day shipping from T-Mobile vs much longer delay from manufacturers. If you are getting duds like I did it means the manufacturer's repair facility itself is doing a bad job, meaning even if you go directly through the manufacturer it more than likely wont be any better and you will have a much larger turn around time on top of it. TMO is much easier to deal with, Sony for example asked to do a software reinstall to rid of light leak between frame and glass and wasted time before they agreed its a hard ware issue and said it would be a three week turn around time so I decided to just keep exchanging with TMO which is much faster.

One of my coworkers dropped his phone and claimed insurance to get a refurb, well six actually. There is no way the manufacturer got the phones he was getting, I'm pretty sure the insurance company and tmobile just flips the phone unless it's has screen or water damage. In the end he settled on a imperfect phone because he didn't want to deal with it anymore. Only complaint I hear about manufacturer warranty is how long it takes. A secret they probably don't want you to know is Samsung has service centers in most bigger cities and some will have a phone repair guy. If you are lucky enough to live close to a Samsung store (not best buy) they will fix it no question.
Oh wow, well thanks for the info good to know, I was shocked my self with my 8 (Z3) exchanges, in that case whoever does the repairs is a veteran amateur. TMO told me wrong I guess.
The offered to cancel my $425 of remaining monthly phone payments and tax if it happened again and said I could get an S6 or G4. Still a loss of $200 I already paid though, fortunately last exchange was good.
I got lucky. I took the risk and sent it to TMO. They actually sent me a brand new device. This one is good so far. I use Google maps for GPS all day. I wish there was an app too act like a screen saver and flicker the screen black just for a second every few minutes.

Fortunately this is not the case. All devices they send out are certified refurbished and there is absolutely no signs of previous ownership. I have received my fair share of refurbished devices from Tmobile via warranty exchanges, and the only way I've been able to tell that they were refurbished is by the box they came in.

Actually every single one I have received was used. They look an seem pefectly new however the one I just got was indeed new. I use a program called Samsung phone info. This will tell me how many times the headphone and USB charger have been attached to the phone. A brand new phone from Samsung has 6 times from Samsung installing the operating system and testing. I have recieved all my phones with numbers in the thousands. This time was 6.

I didn't use Jump but I did order the phone online.... I called customer service before hand to ask such question and was told that after I receive the phone I use a number off the box or receipt to claim gift.... At that time I can choose what I want...
But during the process of ordering there was no option for it....:good:

I can't answer that.... I clicked the upgrade part so that's all I know.... Like I said I called Customer service before hand and it seems as though if you do it by phone you can say what gift you want but... they now implement a $20.00 "assistance fee" for doing it by phone....
I politely told the lady I don't want to pay the $20.00 and proceeded to do the transaction online... She was very helpful though and answered everything I asked so I do appreciate that...
You have to go to the Samsung promotions site when you have phone and receipt in hand to place your order.
SD card and Fit 2 will take up to 12 weeks for delivery.
Netflix is a digital code.
https://promos.samsungpromotions.com/galaxyoffer/
You need IMEI, MAC address and receipt from the device.
---------- Post added at 09:09 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:03 PM ----------
Oh yeah, and the promotion for the Fit 2 and SD card is limited to the first 250K then they substitute. . .
So when you get it, hop to it.

I guess this must be the first time you guys have gotten any perks like this. ITs been this way for quite some time that you basically upload a copy of your invoice and use your IMEI number to process your order for samsung promotions. Also dont get too crazy thinking it may come right away generally it takes 4-6 weeks to receive promotional gifts
So far I have gotten netflix, wireless chargers, gift cards and gear vr. They will send it so dont get too nervous if you feel like you been waiting a while.
I just ordered the phone on jump on demand and the guy told me i wasnt gonna be eligible to receive the sd card or gear or netflix promotion with it. It was only available if i got it as a eip or bought full price. Sucks but still got it anyways.lol

Can you tell me how you went about ordering the phone on jump on demand? As I never have done the process. Thanks in advance.

With jump on demand you can only do it over the phone or in store upgrade. No online upgrade. For pre order just call tmobile and when it asks you to say what you are calling for just say representative. Tell them you want a jump on demand upgrade and to preorder a phone. And whenever you get the new phone just go to a tmobile store and return the old one. Really quick. Make sure you keeo the charger, they wont ask for it.
If the phone is already out then just go to any store and they will trade it for you. Also pretty fast. The cool thing is that you dont have to put any money down for any phone with jump on demand.
The only reason I didn't order it was because they had a 70 down plus tax on jump on demand. I kept asking if that was right because it didn't sound right. Guess they did have a money down thing for jod on the note 7 but got rid of it because people were complaining. Sucks because I would've ordered it last week. But it's cool I guess. I'll just order it today

I went ahead and paid the $70, then got a text two days later from T-Mobile stating that I could do it for no money down, all I had to do was call back in and they would change it for me and my monthly amount would go from $33.50 to $37.50. I went ahead and just left it alone as I didn't want to risk losing my place in the shipping line.

I ordered mine last night for no money down at $37.50 per month. They checked my account and told me I didn't need any cash.

Power down your Note7 and exchange it now email from Samsung

What's up with this email? Just woke up to it this morning, has anyone else received it?
Nope. But I'm considering going to the S7 edge.

Just received the same email. Even though I understand why they are doing it, I'm still pissed. It also said something about a $25 dollar in store credit

I received it and I believe it's a push by US Govt since Samsung initially bypassed the protocol to through their agencies regarding recalls.

So far I haven't had any problems, but I will exchange it once the new one comes out.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I got it last night. The way it's worded certainly seems like this issue is more serious than reported. I was going to try to wait it out and exchange mine when new stock was available but I'm thinking I'll return it this weekend.

I'm with rsacipher. Either the government or Samsung (or both) really think that this is a serious concern. I'm most likely going to return mine this weekend.
Any word on if t-mobile is also giving the Galaxy J7 as a temporary replacement until they have more Note 7s in stock?
I came from a 6P but want 100% sold on the Note 7. Having used it for a few weeks I really like it but the recall started when I was one week into owning it, so I'm wondering if t-mobile will accept returns on the replacement devices if we do it within he regular 14 day return window.
Meh. Pretty sure I can make it until my iPhone 7 Plus comes. Or the very least September 30th
I still have my Note 5 that u haven't sent back yet so I think I'll transfer my data back, return the 7 and pick it up when the new phones start shipping
Sent from my SM-N930T using Tapatalk
If you want another note7 the best thing to do is hold on to it sounds like current note7 owner will get all the new stock first. So if you exchange it for a different phone you have to wait longer as you then won't be a current note7 owner

Yep and pissed.
They say to trade the phone in but all they have is a s7 or s7 edge.
I already had that phone and did the jump to get my note 7.
So that would be a total lost to me. Since i own $700 on the note 7 but own only $100 on the s7 edge.
There is no way they can make me pay full price for a phone i already had that was pretty much paid off.
They did say that they will be getting new shipment but i havent heard of anything from tmobile, besides that they havent gotten any note 7 in stock and gotta wait for that.
The $25 gift card is crap.
Tmobile said you can return acc for the phone, but what about a screen protector ?
So i gues we will just see what happens. This is really draggi g samsu gs name in the mud. And with the iphone 7 launch, samsung is hurting.
And i believe that we are able to sue if the phone caughtd fire.
From my stand point. They gotta give people a full refund for the phone.
Then your network carrier has to give you another phone for pretty much free if you did some type of jump upgrade
They want you to return it now so you don't get the iPhone. Now now now, otherwise next Friday you'll have the option to go iPhone

That sounds like possibility. My guess is Samsung don't want anyone jumping ship.

No T-Mobile is not participating in that J series loaner program or the $25 card/credit.

You would think it would be easier to get a date set up when new phones can be found.... I'm just seriously worried that the government handling is going to turn this into a S*** show.

I think that is one of the problems with an official recall as the government needs to be involved and could take up to a year.
I applaud Samsung for not trying to bury the problem but this certainly will leave a mark on them especially with the new iPhone being released.
Sent from my SM-N930T using Tapatalk
i've been trying to get tmobile to give me a loaner phone for the past couple days and they will not do it. if you return your note 7 and get another phone then that is the phone you are stuck with. if you used your jump to get the note 7 then you effectively will be using your jump again to get the new phone. so you wont be able to get the new revision of the note 7 when it becomes available. as a tmobile customer your best options are to hold on to your note 7 and hope nothing happens to it til the revisions are available, return your note 7 and use a temp phone you may already have til the new revisions come in, or get another phone with tmobile. you do get to keep any promotional item you got with your note 7. but it sucks tmobile wont do the loaner. sprint is participating in the samsung loaner thing. samsung must be discounting the galaxy j even more to the carriers to use it as a loaner. i've also been told that the date for the revisions have been pushed back to october now. if you look at the estimated shipping dates on tmobiles site for new note 7 owners it is in october also.

I dont think it will take up to a year but it might take couple of months. I really think that if Samsung feels this will take longer than expected they might just scrap it all together. The S8 will come out in March and they will go from there.
Remember it wont be a total loss for Samsung as they will still be able to sell them in Europe because they dont have the strict laws the US has.

T-Mobile store didn't use one of my JOD for the phone I switched to today. They just did a return on the Note 7 and then did the new phone separate.
yeah i got the email. i have already gone to my local t-mobile store. they said it will be a few weeks before they have replacement note 7's. so i am just hoping the get the LG V20 in around the same time so i can just return my note for one of those. kinda lost my faith in samsung after this huge blunder. as far as you having to use the jump program again to get a new phone is bs. t-mobile has to do a return on the phone. they are deemed defective which makes your original jump invalid. so it shouldn't be a problem to get a new phone without having to use the jump program again

Got my pre-order today, made an unboxing

I ordered from T-Force on T-Mobile on July 27th, got it delivered today, made a video:

Does that screen protector really look like that out of the box? I would like something like that because most of the protectors for this phone have a huge cutout at the top for all the sensors. Also are the edges rounded? Mind seem a little sharp. Thanks.
It does look like that

I might have to get that. Please let us know if your fingers catch on the edges of the glass or if it interferes with any of your sensors. Thank you.

Looks great. Let us know if the front sensors start acting up. Like when you wave at the phone to get the screen to come on.
Strange that they cheaped out on the accessories on this new phone. My Moto Z last year came with a style back and a bumper case.

My T-Mobile model is on the way! Before ordering one I spoke to a T-Mobile employee who said all I have to do is call T-Mobile and request unlock codes and I would get them for free. I always thought you had to pay to get them from a carrier.

Incorrect you have to wait 40 days and make sure the device is paid off then use the unlock app.

Even if its bought outright?

If you bought it outright. Yes. But it's hard to get there. Best way to do it would be calling and explaining the whole situation your in. They should be able to push the unlock to the app. There's usually a 40 day waiting period you have to wait. But I've heard stories about people doing what your doing and being able to request the unlock. I've also heard they tell people to use it on prepaid for 40 days and then being able to unlock it. Its about a 75/25 chance. Just call untill you get the right people. How did you order the device without an account

I bought it on eBay for a price I couldn't pass on. It's still in the plastic wrapping and everything. If I have any difficulty unlocking it I plan on going back to the T-Mobile store and having the employee who told me they would unlock it for free deal with it.

If you got it off eBay most likely it was a BOGO that there going to get the money for and your gonna end up not being able to unlock it. All for the imei

The account it's tied to needs to be at least 40 days old. I buy devices outright and unlock them same day.

There's a limit per year. I think it's two. Generally I EIP the device and if I like it I'll pay it off. If I don't then I will jump it(I am on the original jump). Sometimes I will just buy outright like I did with the Note 7.
Be careful buying it because it's cheap. That person could do the BOGO get his device unlocked and switch carriers and leave the bill hanging. At that point you are SOL trying to get it unlocked.

I got my t-mobile model in today and have spent about 20 minutes on the phone with customer service trying to get it unlocked. The unlock device app was the first thing I tried and that did not work. I messaged the seller asking for him to contact t-mobile but I'm not expecting much to happen with that.
I'm about to go to the t-mobile store and speak with the employee who told me all I'd have to do is call and submit my imei and then I'd be unlocked. Part of me knew that was too good to be true but I was hopeful. If they can't figure it out in store I'm going to give the cell unlocker site a try.
If none of that works I will be selling it.

Has happened to me many times with T-Mobile. If you get on phone with the unlocking department just talk their ear off for an hour. Say the same things over and over and dont let them get off the phone. Be polite and just ask over and over and keep saying the same things like a robot, calmly. They will eventually either commit suicide right there on the spot or just unlock it. They have the power to unlock any phone at any time so dont believe their stories.
