AOSP apps remover v1.2 | Android 7.x | 11/08/16 - Nexus 6 Themes and Apps

Disclaimer: I am not responsible for bricked devices or other issues.
For all of you who likes clean ROM and hate duplication between system and user apps folders this tool will help. This will remove all defaults AOSP apps except launcher and keyboard. I suggest after removing to install pico version of gapps or all of this will not make much sense. Also boot animation will be gone, trim it to the bone
For everything else you may need use Play Store. This way upgrading existing apps will not make any duplicates.
Please don't hesitate to post if you like to see some more apps to be included in this remover.
V1.2 11/08/16
Added Development app

Thanks! It would be great to see this in an AROMA format where the user could select which apps to remove.

thank you so much , i was looking for this i hate aosp/cm ****ty apps alaways replace it with google apps

Aroma remover on the way

I'm not sure if they're needed but maybe add CQATest and Project FI to the removal list.

Why does this remove Google Camera? And why can't I find it on the Play Store now?

I've noticed this too on my Nexus 6 regardless of ROM- Google Camera does not show up in the PlayStore. Like others have mentioned if you sideload the apk from somewhere like apkmirror it will work. Alternatively you can try clicking on this direct link from your Nexus 6 and it should hopefully take you to the play store with google camera displayed- https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.GoogleCamera

I ran this while doing a clean install of Pure Nexus. Zips flashed in TWRP in this order: 1) Pure Nexus, 2) Full GAPPS (linked from Pure Nexus), 3) B14CKB1RD kernel, 4) phh's superuser, 4) 320 dpi, 5) AOSP apps remover. Google camera was available on first boot. ?
Two possible AOSP app oversights: AOSP keyboard (risky, I get it), and AOSP spell check (part of keyboard app?).
No problems experienced after booting into ROM and getting everything setup to taste. This is now a go-to/must have flash for me. Thanks!

How did you drop your DPI to 320? Was it on N? I've tried changing DPI in build.prop and using apps but nothing worked.

Yeah, on 7.1.1 right now. The Pure Nexus FAQ clued me into these flashables. Adjusting the display size may confuse the DPI change, but a reflash of the DPI zip fixed it for me in 7.0 (and I haven't messed with it in 7.1.1).

why can't I see who is calling me? It's only shows missed calls; awesome zip file (my device is a Moto Maxx, similar to N6) but only this problem that bothers me

Go into settings/apps then click on the cog in upper right corner. Now set your current diaper app as default for phone. This should fix your problem.

any chances to do a flashable zip that could work in all devices?

[q] How to remove Google and Google+

Hi, I have one question about Google and Google+. How to remove the files in our custom rom before flashing the rom? Ya, we can delete it using root explorer but I love to know which apk/files contain the twos apks. Thank's.
Google+ isn't necessarily an apk in the gapps package so google+ won't be there in the custom ROMs and I'm not sure if Google Now is a thing that can be removed as it is an exclusive feature of Android 4.1+ . Not sure though. :|

afair Google Now gets active only after you log in to your Google account from Google Search, logging get out brings the Search back

He wants to disable google search, i don't see any way to do that except not flashing gapps at all which isn't desirable. I'd be glad if you can help him disable google search if possible.
If it is a TW ROM then just pull the apk's out of system/preload...

I guess it all depends on the ROM - I have two different devices, on one the Search is a system app (system/app/Velvet.apk), on other it was installed via Play market (data/app/com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox.apk).
Generally if the apk resides in zip file, it can be removed before flashing (I usually clean ROMs from all apps I don't need on my PC using WinRar), the only problem could be finding name of the apk file to remove.
Yes you're right, the name of the app is where the problem resides as I did check the frameworks folder of the ROM. It's ROM specific isn't it, and tampering with an app like google search can surely cause some unforeseen errors too. I don't see any reason why google search has become such an undesirable app for the poster!
Not sure how it works for stock-based ROMs, on my N7000 I have Slimbean, which comes without Search - it can be installed from the Market separately if someone needs it
Sent from my GT-N5100 using xda premium
Slimbean has gapps of its own, customised for the ROM which are available on their site. The gapps on goo.im which are prescribed by some other ROMs come with the feature of google-search.

in this case it should be enough to remove "QuickSearchBox.apk" from the zip file before flashing
This removes Google search altogether or just the search box on the home screens which cannot be gotten away from the settings options in certain ROMs?

Not sure, the search box may be a separate widget, you could check with Root App Delete (enables/disables system apps)

It's not working for me, but it's probably because I have Android 4.1.2...
It seems like cm11 Trebuchet stopped working on my AOSP 4.2.1 rom in mid June (around the 15th). Before, it was working very good.
Anyone knows why or how to make it work again?
edit: The problem is that it installs propperly but fails to open when i use the home button.
Here is CM11 trebuchet, as built on the 5th July 2014. I MODIFIED AndroidManifest.xml and now it works again on my 4.2.1 Jellybean rom.
Not working list:
Wallpapers (you ve gotta set it manually from Gallery)
Themes
Protected Apps (You can still hide apps with xposed GEL settings app, through xposed framework, if it's a matter)
Exactly like before. I played around in order to make these menus open but I failed. It seems like they interact with other processes/apps (like Settings.apk) which are exclusively found on CM11.
Does this change the notification and status bar to the same style as Trebuchet?
perfect launcher!
This launcher is better than google's launcher because we can remove that persistent search bar.
I installed it on my "spice mi 498".
Thanks for the launcher.

Try searching for cmapps in play store, although that app is broken but in description you can find direct web link.
Also my phone has android 4.4.4 and my phone is from android one series.
I think previous android version might be the problem.

Thanks for the APK dude, it works like a charm on my X-BO V5. Had to use the flashable ZIP version as the companion app to the default launcher, if not the launcher itself, is tainted.

Replacing CM apps with Google ones

I'm using CM13 right now and the CM/AOSP apps hadn't bothered me till now.
I want to replace the stock CM contacts app, dialer app and clock app with the Google ones that come with the stock ROM.
Reason for this: Contacts app is buggy, Clock keeps crashing and Dialer doesn't have the built-in call blocking feature.
How would I go about replacing them?
If I install the apks, the other apps still show in the app drawer.
Help a noob out
Thanks.

Clean install is better IMO. You can try it over your current setup, but make a backup first, and if it starts to force close apps or give you any errors, perform a clean install.

Yes, it works like a charm just flash the zip file in the custom recovery and then the Aroma installer UI appears and later on it's self explanatory.
I did it on latest Feb 2017 security update (N4F26O) on Stock Android
Just a quick note, seeing this is still a recurring thing, anytime I flash OpenGapps aroma version, the apps that are excluded are automatically removed from the rom after the aroma zip is flashed. So aroma package also functions as a debloater.
If you have no scripts or don't know what to do, using Aroma OpenGapps has been a good alternative option for me.

Pure Nexus : Google Camera

Pure Nexus ver 7.1.2_r17. Beans Gapps 610. I tried to download the Google Camera but unfortunately it isn't listed in Play store. Trying to load it from Mirror APK it tells me that it isn't supported for my device. I have tried a couple of different versions but still the same message. I was wondering if anyone has come across this with this particular ROM. I have searched but can't seem to find anything.
Thanks
Mini or full? Install the full package to get the camera. Also, don't use 6/10 but 5/9. 6/10 has issues.
Try this then, it's the latest Google Camera for N6

Here it is in the play store
Just to clarify for the benefit of the audience, the OP is saying he cannot see the Google Camera in the Play Store. He's right. Google hides the app in the Play Store if it isn't already installed on the device. This is in addition to the requirement that the device be a Nexus or Pixel. Thus, if Google Camera is important to you, and with HDR+ I feel it should be, install the full Banks GApps package instead of the mini package. After doing so, Google Camera should show up on the Play Store again.
Of course, installing the APKMirror copy of Google Camera may also work, but I haven't tried it.

Thanks for the explanation. I didn't think of it that way but that makes complete sense. In the future I will install the Full instead of the Mini to avoid this issue. The Mini was install this time around because of issues with the Full version June 10th.
The reason I keep that link is it allows me to use the mini package, when the only additional app I want in the full is the camera. Works every time. Different strokes for different folks ☺
True. The one difference between installing it through the Play Store and installing it using Beans GApps is where the camera gets installed. With Beans GApps the camera is in /system, rather than /data.
I wonder why Beans hasn't done an Aroma installer? It would mean only having to make one package, and would give the end user some control over what apps are installed.

It has something to do with the build script. It's referred to in the current TBO release post.
Having read what you linked to, that seems interesting. I've dabbled with Aroma, and I think the issue boils down to Beans' usage of just an updater binary, like what Chainfire uses in SuperSU.
There are kludgy ways to get around this, but as I install the full package anyway I'm not going to try and find out.
Speaking of GApps, did Beans ever get the issues with the 6/10 package resolved?

From numerous posts referencing Beans and other GApps with much confusion, I think it comes down to Beans using a unified package and script for both arm and arm64 that simplifies things for him (not to mention the less informed user ).
He helped the TBO guys adapt the unified arm/arm64 script and they are abandoning Aroma, so my guess is the two are not compatible.
