Using An AT& T Handset IN UK - Galaxy Note5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can this be done?
Does it work on all 4G bands.
Better still can it be flashed with a firmware to get rid of anything to do AT&T?

Been awhile since I posted this.
Can anyone tell me if it's possible to flash say a Cambodian ROM on an AT&T Note 5?

no idea. i believe i have an at&t note 5 based on what i've discovered after googling my bootloader / pda / csc / baseload version codes, although there's nothing on my hardware/software to suggest anything at&t related. whatever has been done to it means it's working ok for calls and data (except it always says '4g' in the notification bar, even when i'm in an area without 4g!)
I'm trying to find whether i can upgrade to MM (or Nougat when available) without destroying my phone

Does your note 5 have at&t branding on the back?
When you go in sotfware info what rom have you got?
have you ever had any ota updates?
what sim card are you using?
Thanks

Only got it about 2 weeks ago from HK via ebay. No reason to suspect anything until looking at updating to MM. My model type in 'about device' shows as SM-N920F which, after some searching around, doesn't exist. Then unearthed the phone is rooted and possibly from USA via a China unlock process etc etc. Anyway, in answer to your questions:
1. No AT&T logo
2. Software looks stock (i.e. no names that would suggest custom rom)
3. No OTA updates (but then I'm rooted so wouldn't expect any - I believe)
4. 3 (three)

Thanks for the reply.
I was looking on ebay at a 64gb but they all seem to be at&t refurbished. Whatever that means.
I was told an at&t wont update with their sim being in the phone. That's why I asked about yours.
Do you have a link to the one you got?

Verizon SIM, T-Mobile ROM, when should I expect OTA updates?

Sorry, i'm not sure how the OTA's work on the Nexus devices, so I have to ask (and haven't found the right discussions which talk about this)...
I have an ATT branded Nexus 6 which has been bootloader unlocked, OEM partition wiped, and flashed with the "for T-Mobile" LYZ28J image. I am using a Verizon SIM in it.
Since there are posts of T-Mobile pushing LYZ28K I was wondering, will get get this OTA? if so when (i.e. does it it matter than I have a Verizon SIM in there when it comes to OTA's? Or do I manually need to load it?
It doesnt matter that it has a vzw sim in it. If youre stock, you may get it, and you can apply it - but when? Nobody can tell you that, you'll get it when you get it.
If you are waiting for Tmo specific firmware on VZW service, that isn't going to happen - you'll never get that since...well...you dont have TMo service...
Lol what's the reason behind an AT&T branded phone with T-Mobile Rom and Verizon sim? Personally I would just manually do it, like the dude with the hilarious name above me said you may get it you may not. If you want it just go manual.
^^ exactly.
Thats what I've always done - if i want it (and since I'm never stock) I have to manually flash the firmware, make my own no-enforced encryption boot.img (kudos to the kitchen) flash that, and start all over.
Thats how it is, I'm used to it. OTA are too slow, IMO, anyway.
EDIT:
I use this name universally online - any forum you see it, XBL, GitHub, reddit... it's me. lol

Long story short... its a work supplied device. I asked for unlocked/unbranded and got the ATT branded (but sim unlocked). My primary work line is Verizon, backup/test line is T-MO.
We have others that will likely be in the same boat (ATT branded, sim unlocked, but using other provider).. who are not techie. So rather than flashing or side loading the OTA (which I easily could), I'm waiting to see what happens.
I'm more curious *IF* I should get the update in this state. and if the mix of rom vs sim might cause any delays/issues.
Bottom Line. Verizon and ATT don't usually OTA for 3 months after update release. Once the factory image for Sprint, USC, International drops you can fastboot flash that They gonna use the same and it will work. T-Mobile and FI work better with their drop just because of WiFi calling.
I'd say that because you're using VZW service, it makes absolutely no difference what branding the phone has and doesn't matter what carrier it was purchased for.
If it uses VZW service, you'll only get OTAs that are for that service. You won't get Tmo specific OTAs for a device being used on VZW - when the OTAs are pushed out they are done so by the service the device is registered as using. I don't think you would ever get said OTAs since the device wouldn't need them.

Thank you. And that is what I'm thinking, and why I'm asking... because I'd also seen talk about the SIM in the Nexus 6, or the carrier the phone is on, impacting some of the Nexus 6 updates in the past.
But I also remember my Sister-In-Law using an XT1053 on ATT, who did get XT1053 updates.. SO I wasn't completely sure how the nexus updates worked.
Yes. If leave the sim in will get the Verizon OK'd OTA. That has been up to 3 months after the image was posted. Either remove sim and try to force OTA from Google or manually flash the image. We end up always manually flashing due to having root.. 3-5 minutes tops.

That's not accurate.. On every other android phone it is accurate but not in the nexus 6.
Usually with a GSM phone, the update is pushed by the oem and your current build determined which update you got.. For example, my Three UK s3 would get the Three UK branded rom update. Even if I had an O2 UK sim in it.. If I then flashed a Vodafone UK rom, I would then get those updates.
With the nexus 6 though, this has changed.. For Verizon and T-mobile users, Google now uses the sim to identify which update to get.. They both were sent with an unbranded stock rom then later on, depending on the simcard, got either a t-mob or vzw update.
The problem is though, that each update will only install on a specified build.. So a vzw update will never install on a t-mob rom or vice versa, so it does matter if the build is one carrier and the sim is another as it will never get an update.
That's what I meant, I probably should have worded that differently.
I meant that even though it is using Verizon service you only get updates for Verizon service. If it's branded for X carrier that won't matter - the service its using is what you'll get updates for.
I apologize about that that was a poor choice of wording on my part.
And just an update.... tonight, I got prompted for a 28meg update. After the update I'm on LYZ28K.
So I guess to answer my own question...
Yes, an ATT Branded Nexus 6 flashed T-Mobile ROM with VZW SIM installed will get updated, and stay on the T-Mobile rom.
That is good.

Yup. I unlocked. Actually when I got it, I unlocked it, rooted, cleared the OEM partition (backed it up first), then flashed the T-Mobile rom.... and left it unlocked (but not rooted since I'm using for work)

T-Mobile stock firmware on SM-G920T factory unlocked version

I recently purchased the G920T factory unlocked version on eBay, is it safe to Odin any T-Mobile stock firmware, any info will be appreciated, thanks in advance.
Once you above a certain firmware you can't go back. What firmware you currently on?
It is currently on G920TUEU3COK1 can I Odin to the latest T-Mobile G920TUVS3DOJC I understand that I can't go back but is it safe and will it function normally, thanks for the reply.
i have this same question because from what ive read 3COK1 is for Cellular South (aka C Spire). while the 3DOJC is for Tmobile, both under the G920t firmware. are you also on tmobile network with this phone?
What are the benefits of flashing T-Mobile firmware on the USA factory unlocked phone? I have this phone on T-Mobile and wifi calling works. I also get great reception. I assume this phone will get Marshmallow months before T-Mobile releases their build

Are you getting LTE on it.
So I flashed the C Spire firmware and it asked for an unlock code. I flashed back to the original tmobile firmware and it is still locked although it was unlocked before, but the device unlock app says its ineligible for unlock now.
Anybody else encountered this?
Call t mobile customer service and ask them. They can adjust their servers and then the unlock app will work.

I'd advise that you dont.
To unlock it I had to flash back to the original tmobile rom. From the tmobile rom, the device unlock app failed in different ways.
After i called tmobile over and over I got it unlocked (like 2 hours of calling).
Hurts my heart to see all the tmobile bloat, especially when i dont even live in the US, but at least my phone works

Carrier unlock a G920T permanently

Hi guys,
I need some clarification re: carrier unlocking and how it works. I recently purchased a carrier unlocked G920T, and I was going to start messing with custom roms/kernels and other goodies. My question is: Will the phone revert back to being locked if I do a factory reset or if I unlock the bootloader and flash custom roms?
I'm not a T-Mobile user, so I can't get another unlock code from them.
Thanks!!
The G920T has a carrier unlocked version, which is probably the one you have, not the T-Mobile one. Even if it is, usually a carrier unlocked device will remain unlocked forever unless it was unlocked using a different or hacky method, then there is a possibility that it will relock
Sent from my SM-G920T using Tapatalk
Yeahh go ahead, mess with it. when it is carrier unlocked, the software doesn't affect it, unless it is a hacky method like @serio22 said, but there isnt such hacky method for the GS6 so have fun.
If it is a G920T (the T means it's from T-Mobile), then carrier unlocking is not a guaranteed state. I paid T-Mobile the full price to get my GS6 and they "permanently" unlocked it. Then after a OTA software patch all of a sudden it locked itself again and I couldn't use my phone for 2 days while they tried to unlock it. T-Mobile's new device unlocking uses a new system which has the phone "phone home" to their servers to check if you're allowed to use it outside of their network. It happened again when I accepted the Android 5.1.1 OTA. So...beware of T-Mobile's not-very-permanent permanent carrier unlocking.
I am living in india..
My relatives brought me the t model ( i wanted f model instead of i sold in india for quicker updates but got t model...lol )
Anyways,
The moment i inserted my sim, it worked like a charm so its unlocked at the moment.
I dont know how they made payment their or how it was unlocked, but the way used must be legit coz its still stock at the moment without root / recovery etc. .
I read humo saying it can get locked again...
My main question, what are the odds of that happening?
Also since i live in india, i wont be able to contact t mobile via phone/walk in, are there ways i can get it unlocked again?
I dont have the bill too if it matters
i believe they have an app that unlock ur device since that is how i unlocked mine. if not u can try to contact customer service online since u r not in US.
With device unlock app , will i have to pay for unlock my s6 g920t or it'll unlock my device for free.
I have an unlocked s6 tmobile from usa, i heard the flashing stock rom will relock the device.
If the phone will relock then how can i unlock it again?
I'm not sure about flashing a stock ROM relocking the device. Mine re-locked when T-Mobile sent Android security patches. This week I did the Android 6.0 OTA update and it has remained unlocked.

Got it done remotely!
I have a Galaxy S6 (SM-G920T) from T-Mobile. It was locked. But it has an "Unlock" app installed by default. I used it and phone was instantly unlocked! Fast, easy and free!
I used to live in the US for a year and bought a g920T. Since i had the requirements i Unlocked and came back to my country but because of a problem, I had to install a stock firmware and now the unlock is gone.
So i'm wondering, if someone with a unlocked phone made firmware backup, remove the IMEI, and send it online would it work? I mean, right now it works just fine, so i can backup my IMEI and ID and just restore it if needed.
Please help

samsung galaxy note 5 n920f

HI, i had this version and i didn't find any data related to it like firmware , i noticed that everything run smoothly and mobile run the latest update (your system is up to date ) lollipop and model n920f was written on the back although of that when i tried to use Samsung info apk it showed that phone made in Korea and it was Verizon version n 920v so i figured out that phone was a Verizon version and was moved to china to be unlocked and back was replaced also so, am i right ? and if i am right , can i download Verizon marshmallow update without problems.
I thought the f was an international version which hadn't been released. Its usually the tag for european models, which of course wasn't released for the note 5.

The 'F' variant for Samsung devices is usually for European countries, but Samsung never released Note5 officially in Europe.
There is no N920F, the international variant is the N920C, If the actual device is N920V then those firmware should work.
Download and install : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vndnguyen.phoneinfo&hl=en_GB
And see what the bootloader and modems are, they should specify what the actual phone is.
Remember that you are responsible for what you do to your device so proceed with caution and always back-up your data.
Here are screenshots from Samsung info apk , what do you think ?

It's a sprint model, you should be able to flash N920P firmware; It seems like the phone is running a custom ROM which has the CSC of the N920V.
Again you are responsible for what you do to your device so make a back-up before you attempt anything.

The bootloader and baseband belong to N920P.

It's kind of confusing because your KNOX counter is not tripped but the firmware on your device seems to a mix between N920V and N920P with the Chinese and Sprint CSC

I'll be honest if there was a way to unlock sprint phones that way we'd already know about it, put in a T-Mobile sim and an att sim if they both work it's unlocked you can use any SIM cards if they work it's unlocked as long as you don't use sprint and Verizon for the rest. I'm very confident it's unlocked if it's not, it can be done easily

I believe it is. It's a couple of threads on XDA talking about changing firmwares.

Thanks I figured it out.
Just in case someone stumbles on this thread I will post the solution.
You will need to flash the US Unlocked version of the phone then flash which ever carrier you want.
Just for clarification purposes, are you saying that once you flash the ATT firmware onto a Verizon device that all ATT functions work? Or did you have to also provision the IMEI to achieve this as well.?

sorry for the late reply. But I was able to achieve everything working on my device now. Brief description of what I did to get everything to work:
1. flash unlocked firmware
2. flash att firmware (not unlocked)
3. put sim in another AT&T branded phone
4. Call AT&T have them activate and provision everything on account as normal
5. Put sim in note 9 and activate wifi calling feature
6. DONE you now have a fully fuctional AT&T device, I even got an update from their servers.
I can go into more detail of the steps if needed.

I am looking for the AT&T firmware. I am currently in Kuwait and destroyed my phone. I had to buy an unlocked Note 9 version with the exynos cpu. The problem is I can't WIFI call or use any of the Volte functions my other phone had. Does anyone have the firmware for AT&T? Will that only work with snapdragon? I have already rooted this phone and it is ready to go. I need these functions so I can call back to the States.

This may be of help (instructions for all US Carriers apply) :

Haven’t used it myself, so, if you have any questions, check with the OP & others who've posted in that thread.

Thanks for the quick reply. It looks like I need to wait for Detonator to come out with the AT&T zip. It says coming soon so hopefully soon is in the next couple of weeks. That looks like the best route to go. This is the first phone I have ever rooted. I work with networks and sometimes software kicks me in the butt!

Since this will be the 1st phone you'll have rooted, be aware that, especially with Samsung devices, there's a couple of trade-offs that aren't reversible:
1) Samsung Pay will never work even if you unroot.
2) Knox features (I believe) are also a casualty.
There's an e-fuse, for lack of a better word, that once tripped on Samsung devices, cannot be reset. That's why even if you restore the phone to its original condition, those things will be permanently gone.

Thanks for the info. I read up on all of that and the trade off is worth it. I just need all the Volte features and hopefully the correct frequencies for the U.S. I had a note 3 forever and it got destroyed. I loved that phone. This Note 9 is awesome but without being able to manipulate the IMS settings it is a PITA. I just want to be able to call home from time to time. Emailing the wife is no fun especially with the tech available today. I will keep an eye out for Detonator to provide the AT&T CSCs and all that fun stuff. Then this phone will officially be outstanding. I do have to admit that the rooting process was fun. I am all about modified anything. Stock sucks. LOL

Im not a phone guru like others on here. But from my experience that is all I did. A really important step I didn't mention is leave the cable PLUGGED IN when you flash the unlocked software then the locked software. This caused my device to read the "sim info" and provision its self for ATT and get rid of the verizon stuff and install the ATT stuff. Hope this helps you out.

I flashed the us factory on my note 9 from Verizon. I have LTE voice and wifi calling. Didn't trip Knox. No root required. Any particular reason you want tmobile firmware?

Because my carrier is T-Mobile and my Note 9 came from Verizon. Can you provide a link to the factory firmware? Im hoping to flash to factory unbranded, then flash to t-mobile so I can use my video calling.
Thanks for any help
