AlekOS for IDOL4?-Need Testers! - Alcatel Idol 4S Questions & Answers

Hi Guys
I have Plans to make AlekOS For IDOL4 ( i made for idol3).....
I have in my hands system files from Idol4...i will make alekos for idol4 today or tomorrow:good:..I only Worry for Updater-Script because we don't have it ...i will use from idol3 but i need testers because i didn't own Idol 4 ::crying:
i willl do AlekOS If there's Interest

Hi There
Would be awesome if You'll do some nice Rom for Idol4 , i never had Alcatel before, always Top Galaxy family, but finaly i bought Idol4 only because i love how it looks like, but i didn't realize that it will be so hard with root and custom roms.
I just checked your rom for idol3 , and would be nice to have it on idol 4 but only think what i don't like in most of new roms is " sh iii tyy looks of material design icons , settings etc. and crapy launchers.
So my main question is if it's possible to make a Rom with iOS 4 or Miui4 or 5 ui and let say NEXT Launcher 3D insead of other sh iii tyy loooks launchers?
I would love to see my idol with a bit older look of whole UI. I wish to have a status bar and status icons with some colors not just f.....n white or green like it is in sh iii tyy Android 5,6 and 7 . What a sick trend for a material design now.
Anyway, that was just my personal opinion about general nasty look of material design all around everywhere
If it comes about your question can you just make it without updater?

Sounds great, is it Substratum and xposed compatible rom?

Dude a custom ROM would be great. I only wish someone would be able to root the cricket variabt

I need more intereset and then i will release it

There are only few rooted idol4 devices, as it seems, so you will not get many many people showing interest.
Anyway, I was the first one here to get the phone rooted thanks to DeckerSU, i hope you will release your custom ROM, and I'll be glad to be among the testers.

Lets test!!

Count me in!

The reason for the slowing interest is most Alcatel idol 4 people currently have is the Cricket variant within the USA. I gave a donation which I truly couldn't afford in hopes that the root would-be for all 6055 instead of a certain variant. The 6055u is an awesome phone and could be even better with root. I hope someone out the will do something soon for all 6055 so this opportunity won't be waisted.

Is there any chance that you'll use Miui Launcher (lite) express instead any other ?? and smartasian clock instead google one?

+1 would test!

++1!!!

+1. And much more people from 4pda Russia.

Okay Next weekend i will try to manage to make Build for idol 4

OMG, new stuff to test already... It will be possible to mount system writable? Or that stuff is kernel dependent?

Cyanogenmod on the note 4 snapdragon

Hi Guys ! Is somebody already trying to boot Cyanogenmod ? I'm a reverse engineer, have done quite a bit of development work on CM11 for the S4 I9500 and just ordered my Note 4 snapdragon and planning to run and optimize CM12 on our Snapdragon Note 4

Yes, I'm hoping more developers will switch to this device and will start working on booting and running CM as smooth as possible. I just ordered my note 4 yesterday, I still have to wait 2 weeks to receive my device (I don't live in a snapdragon country), hoping to work together with some other devs but if not, going to give booting CM myself a try and will update and report here for sure !
I'm new to the Note line so I have a question. Does the S-Pen work (just work, non of the fancy features) with custom Roms or do devs need to optimize it?
I would love to see it running Lollipop.
Patience... is the key. It will happen.

The spen will work on any rom but samsung specific apps like snote will only work on samsung based roms. On cm based roms there are alternative apps like papyrus and on the note 2 there were specific spen apps made for cm roms so guess the same thing will probably happen on the n4

"This forum is intended for XDA members to find or discuss development on the Galaxy Note 4, including ROMs, kernels, rooting, mods and much more, specifically for the Qualcomm Snapdragon variant of the Note 4."
Sounds like the right place to me.
Anyway on topic: here's the general porting method: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Doc:_porting_intro and here the samsung code: http://opensource.samsung.com/reception/receptionSub.do?method=sub&sub=F&searchValue=910f
Unfortunately going by what Samsung released previously, we'll need code directly from Qualcomm, did anybody find chipset code for the 805 already ?
And here's the Lollipop Nexus 6 (of course also running snapdragon 805) code:
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/android-lollipop-source-pushed-to-aosp/
Oh and also found this thread, should be helpful to get a start: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2532873
Anyway, getting my device in 2 weeks, hopefully around that time CM12 will be released too, mabye we should wait for that anyway, but I wanted to start this thread already to function as a knowledge sharing thread regarding getting cyanogenmod running on the Note 4. Going to do some digging in the sources codes already and see what's there and what's missing.

Sorry but I really miss your point man. This is development and most importantly, this is Snapdragon: this thread has really not much to do with Exynos (which most likely will never even run CM12, at least not in the next year), so I really don't see in which forum it would be more ontopic than this one. If you disagree, let me know in which forum you feel it should be posted in and why and if it makes sense, I'll ask the mod, but again, I really don't see it.

Cyanogenmod

Hey there,
is it possible to create Cyanogenmod for the Mi NOte Pro. You do have kernel sorces. Don´t you?
Would spend a little amount for it of course
I can also put some money towards a bounty to port Cyanogenmod on the device we will also need a root method and a custom recovery ported over. We need to get some devs interested.

I really don't know.. I'm imagining that some tweaks would be needed in the kernel, but that it should be pretty similar overall. I think the camera, touchscreen, and most of the peripheral hardware is the same, and it's just the processor that's different.
We do use different recovery images though.

Do NOT flash the Mi Note ROM to the MI Note Pro. It will not work and render your device suseless.
And you can't deodex the Mi Note Pro ROM by now. So not much hacking is possible now.

Even an unofficial port will be like a gulp of fresh air.
One more crazy thing I've noticed.. MIUI after reboot has only 2-2.2Gb of free RAM. For example, Nexus 6 after reboot has 1.8-2Gb free RAM. Are MIUI developers think, that if device has 4 gigs of RAM they can just waste it? About "Recent Apps" I'm even trying not to talk.. because it totally disgusting. For example, google chrome idea to "merge apps and tabs" incompatible and so on and so on.
P.S. I was also trying to agitate from my side some owners on russian 4pda community, but unfortunately, users looks happy "with official miui" and do not understand what & why I'm talking about.
With corresponding software this phone can make happy owners for years. That's why we need cyanogen.

Learning to root again

Hello People!
I haven't rooted a phone since my HTC HD2 from 2009. Now I have had the Samsung Note 5 international version for a while which doesn't have samsung pay so I'm planning to root it now. I wanted to know whats the difference between custom roms and kernels. What is the best custom rom for the Note 5. Also I have been reading a lot about people having trouble because they bricked their device which is making be not want to root. Also I don't see that many custom roms for the Note 5 as I saw for the HTC HD2 back then. I'm looking for something that overlays on top of touchwiz because I like touchwiz but I want more functionality for example only stock apps work with split screen but I want every app working with split screen and same thing for pop-up view.
Thanks for the help guys and girls.

Android 8 for SM-G900F

Hi to all SM-G900F fans and for all developers!
I'd like to introduce this topic to discuss about the possibility of the Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900F to have the new Android 8. Knowing about some amazing improvements that were made to the new Android 8 that will arrive soon, I'd like to know the following:
[ALL FANS] - What do you think about our S5 SM-G900F having an Android 8 ROM? With a booting time cut in half, with app performance increased in double, with drivers available to update, etc.? If that will be possible to the developers apply to the S5 SM-G900F, it would be great or not?
[ALL DEVELOPERS] - What do you think about the idea of creating an Android 8 ROM for a great 2014 phone? It will be possible to do that with all improvements that were claimed for the new Android 8? It will worth that huge effort?
As you can see I love this phone, no doubt about that. But, my wish is to have my Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900F running Android 8 with all those features that were claimed to have in the new Android OS. If that can be possible, I think it would be amazing for this phone! Because I think the hardware is still good to support newer software and it would be very nice to see an excellent quality/price phone like this to match new ones.
I hope my wish can became true. . .please do not let this phone R.I.P!

"booting time cut in half, with app performance increased in double, with drivers available to update" Idk if it is possible, but it will be quite hard. If android 8 will come out, we developers WILL DO OUR BEST to get the best out of the s5. And please don't open threads like this because it is like opening a thread and just saying "i bought a new phone and i am happy (no **** sherlock lol) "!

Yeah, you're absolutely right and I apologize for my behavior. I was only excited about that I just decided to try to share my feelings and thoughts with the XDA Community. I love XDA Developers. It teached me so much about everything related to Android over the years. However, I must follow all the rules and have a good behavior so please feel free to remove/delete this thread.
Once again, I'm sorry for having opened this thread. Just a BIG "thank you" to all developers for the hard work they always do and for all members that share doubts and solutions for everything related to Android.
Best regards,
Lu

It's alright to discuss about such things, but never push devs beyond what they can do. You simply show disrespect and it's one of the main reasons why devs give up creating something new.
Regarding Android 8 (Android O), I don't think it's going to be an easy task to port it to our device. At first, on Nougat was hard enough to make everything working (camera being one of the main highlights, since N has a completely revamped camera interface under the hood, like different process handling and stuff). I can't imagine, what O actually brings to the table and in no way it's going be a walk in the park.
And neither battery life nor camera is going to be as good as stock. Blame Samsung and Touchwiz for their closed source nature.
Even if it happens, camera will still suck. Why flash something that makes your phone worst and unstable, just to say that you have the latest android version in "phone about"
I don't know why you are so hyped about it, it has really small changes since Lollipop...

Of course not. It's about to have all the NEW features in your OLD phone (if possible, of course). I think there are several phones (like the Samsung Galaxy S5) that have plenty potencial to run newer software. Besides that, one teacher I had, one day, he told in the classroom that there's no limits when programming, it only depends on our imagination to create solutions. I'm nobody to say that his words are correct or not, but I believe if there's will and hope that things are capable to be made.

I'd love to see Android 8 on my S5. It is true and it will be always true that the stock TW camera is the best one. It has slow-mo and 1080p60 video (I know that OnePlus camera has 720p90fps slow-mo, but that's not that great comapared to the stock.) But in my opinion, for some picture shooting, it is a great camera with the stock Lineage camera as well. (Maybe one day someone can find Samsung's driver).
Besides that, the S5 runs great with the latest 7.1.2 Android, and I believe that it will run as fast (if not better) with Android O.
Definetly hope for an upcoming information, devs: take your time, make a great rom.
I don't see anything wrong with this topic? The guy just asked if it's possible lol He didn't tell you "MAKE IT NOW!!". About stock android 8 - no. Stock android is boring, even Samsung's version of KitKat has more features than the newest stock android from Google. But some sort of port from, let's say, the Note 8 or the Galaxy S9 would be awesome in my opinion. There already are S8 ports for the KLTE which work with little bugs that will be fixed soon (SkiesROM) or ones that don't really matter that much (DreamUX ROM). Hardware is more than capable. iPhones have super low hardware and Apple updates them for 4-5 years ahead. This means that 'old' 2014 hardware like the S5's can be used perfectly fine even in 2020...with the right developers. BUT, nothing beats official Sammy firmware. Sure, you'll get the new features from android O(reo?) and the new Note8/S9 but bugs are inevitable whereas TouchWiz 6.0.1 is fine in every aspect. I'll stick to my S5 until 2019-2020 and then buy a new S10 or S11 (xd). I just hope that Samsung bring back the features from the S5 like IR blaster, fingerprint scanner on the front, hover view in the gallery and video apps, etc. FM Radio won't hurt too (still envy my S3 Mini for having it, 1%=3h radio) :|

Android 8.0 Oreo Discussion

So who's excited for Oreo!?
What features are you looking forward to the most?
For me it would be Project Treble!
Is there any devs here already working on a custom rom?
I'm looking forward to people stopping asking when it's coming.
Someone managed to get it to boot on a OP3, so wait a bit and you'll see it appear in XDA
Personally I'm waiting for Android P, because... I love peanut-butter. Anyone know when it will be released?
Yet another O thread, I might create an Android O,P,Q,R,S,T,U,V,W,X,Y,Z anticipation thread so get it all out the way.

yep, there are some..
On the basis that this is just an appreciation and excitement thread rather than an ETA thread I would say I'm looking forward to picture in picture for YouTube specifically.
Also looking forward to notification channels but think I will need to eventually try it to fully understand it's potential.
In the background I'm most excited for Google doing more to curb background battery drain from rogue apps as battery life is what I look to most in a phone.

Next year
I'm most excited about the Autofill Framework. I've been using LastPass for a couple of years now and while it works decently on the phone, on many occasions I have to switch back and forth between LastPass and the app/website I'm trying to login into. Many times it takes more time and effort than I would like to and hopefully this new API will help integrate this feature seamlessly.
I read on the xda labs page that it might support OMS natively .. which is a big plus for me ... a couple of another features that i've seen are also interesting.

Personally I'm waiting for Android P, because... I love peanut-butter. Anyone know when it will be released?

I'm happy with the progress with what we have now. Thank you to all the developers.
Moded ass OP5
This thread makes me feel like this is oneplus forums..
Great to see people excited about it and many developers already started doing development.
Good news for OP5 users!
halogenOS 8.0 development is ongoing. Releases for OnePlus 5, OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 2 will be coming as soon as we can manage.
In case there is a need to modify TWRP, I'll take a look at that as well.

Yes fully OOS level theme support of Substratum or a OnePlus own theme UI would be appreciated. I'd personally would vote for Substratum as there is already a mature theme library available on the playstore.
I'm also looking forward to the battery drain reduction from background apps.

Would be nicer if we had new battery tech! Lithium ion batteries been abouts since the 90s! We need some sort of breakthrough then we wont even really need these battery drain reductions.
A little off topic bit also exciting! Just need to see this tech move further along now. Maybe in the next 10 years this is what all gadgets will use. http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/next/tech/super-safe-glass-battery-charges-in-minutes-not-hours/
