stay in fastboot
go down with the volume down key
when u got recovery highlighted go up with the volume key
and it will boot into twrp recovery

If flashing recovery is unsuccessful you're best bet is to flash the sbf firmware with rsdlite , this has happened to to more than a few including me

look alot of people are having this issue it is a simple fix follow the directions step by step

mfastboot flash recovery twrp-2.6.3.1-ghost-4.4.img
as soon as you type the above command to flash TWRP we need to boot the phone into recovery before we let it boot to android we can do that via the command below.

adb reboot recovery
MAKE SURE THAT AFTER YOU TYPE THE FIRST COMMAND DO NOT LET THE PHONE BOOT TO ANDROID.
right after you hit enter for the mfastboot command type the reboot command it will boot into recovery. if not i would redownload the correct TWRP recovery for 4.4

If recovery flashes but is not available, your best bet is to flash the sbf firmware and flash recovery, its worked for numerous folks including me

Step 2 should be done with Mfastboot, not fastboot.
Repeat all three steps with mfastboot and you should be good.

Tried returning to stock 4.2 from 4.4 with MOTDROIDULTRADEV_verizon-user-4.2.2-SU1-15-3-release-keys-cid2-Verizon-US.xml\CFC-obake-maxx_verizon-user-4.2.2-SU1-15-3-release-keys-cid2-Verizon-US.xml. I got this from Motorola so I know it's correct.
Flashing FAILED on SYSTEM.IMG. Now I am stuck on the "warning bootloader unlocked" screen. Phone won't boot to Android. Tried using RSD Lite, but it fails on 2/18 Phone Returned FAIL. Tried flashing again through FASTBOOT, failing on "fastboot flash partition gpt.bin" Help! :crying:

Like I said previously ,flash the kitkat firmware, forget jb. You can not flash back to the pre camera ota, gpt.bin is the bootloader which if is incompatible will fail, saving you from hard bricking your device

What errors are the RSD and fastboot actually failing with?
When you're trying to do the fastboot flash, does "fastboot devices" actually show your device as connected?

Are you sure that is the right version of the firmware? I'm waiting for access to the files from the moto site right now so I can compare the full file name, but I'm pretty sure you have the Maxx Dev Edition firmware file there.

i have never seen that firmware name before so i would grab the 4.4 firmware from here

You are THE MAN! Quick question regarding SuperSU.zip...Do I unzip it in windows and MOVE the 4 folders to the phone, OR do I only need to move the UNZIPPED SuperSU file to the phone? I am about to flash recovery and want to be sure. Thanks so much!!!

Flashed TWRP entering "mfastboot flash recovery twrp-2.6.3.1-ghost-4.4.img" OK. When I enter "adb reboot recovery" I get device not found and nothing happens. This is stopping me from rebooting to Recovery. On the phone, I highlighted RECOVERY, hit the UP button, and it booted to Android.

OMG!!!!!!! The problem was my utter ignorance of a new device. I spent the last two days trying to boot to recovery using the up/down buttons or so I thought. I had no problems using the DOWN button...it was the UP button (I thought the POWER button was UP!!!) This is why I was not booting to Recovery...my Droid Bionic has two buttons on the side of the phone...its power button is on the top. I am sorry for being a pain everyone and I really appreciate all of your help! I AM ROOTED!!! :highfive::good:

I use WugToolKit with TWRP, Unlocked and Decrypted. Stock ROM
I'm confused as to how I should flash this, I've read I should just click flash zip in the toolkit and let it finish and done. Also that I could download the file to my phone and use TWRP to flash straight to the phone. Some say backup and some say don't. Also some threads say I need to flash back to factory image, tho this flashable zip should be a factory image of 5.0.1.
Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.

Apparently the new update OTA or zip will update blocks instead of files so from my understanding, even the slightest change from stock will cause this ZIP to fail when flashing. I'm rooted, decrypted, and changed mixer_paths.xml and as expected the flash failed in TWRP and adb sideload so I'm backing up via Titanium and flashing the 5.0.1 stock. I'll decrypt/root/restore after the flash.
Here are the steps I took to flash the factory image and not lose my settings:
Flash bootloader and radio:
fastboot flash bootloader bootloader-shamu-moto-apq8084-71.05.img
fastboot flash radio radio-shamu-d4.0-9625-02.55.04.img
After flashing the bootloader/radio, you need to reboot the bootloader as shown below, don't skip this step!
fastboot reboot-bootloader
I then unzipped this file: image-shamu-lrx22c.zip
Now you can move on to the rest of the files
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash system system.img
Finally, just reboot your device, and Android should start up.

After the phone restarted I then used CF-Auto-Root to re-root my phone. I did not lose any of my settings or installed apps. HTH...
So if I am stock but rooted I cannot sideload the OTA?
I keep getting status 7 error when trying to sideload with ADB using the update OTA.
It actual unzips and installs about 50% and then I get the Status 7 Error

Rooting causes a change to the system partition, so no, you can't sideload the OTA anymore. (not since Lollipop)

No, he used fastboot. Be wary of toolkits. They can do damage that a novice wont be able to fix.

Thats similar to what I did.
Only thing to do if you are already decrypted is to download this boot file, rename it to boot.img and flash it instead of the one included in the google zip package.

I had to manually flash each file separately. For some reason when the flash.bat file was running it kept reporting that the system.img file was too big. Not had that before.

yeah - since 5.0, the flash-all.bat isn't working for a lot of users.

From what I understand, if you flash cache.img, you will go back to stock and lose all of your settings.

Curious as to why so many steps?
All i did was flash the radio and system images. Went to 5.0.1 just fine, all settings/data retained.
Didn't flash bootloader, kept unlocked during process, only had to re-root.
Having an issue while flashing system.img file. I flashed radio, and flashed system.img then flashed cf-auto-root. On first start up I was having issues with my radio. LTE was not connecting to T Mobile. So I Nandroid back to stock. Then of course I noticed this didnt change my radio back to stock. Starting everything over, I reflashed radio, reboot bootloader, Flash system.img, reboot bootloader, then fash autoroot. Restart device. Radio was flashed and I had root, but stuck on 5.0 Tried to reflash system.img and I am getting error. "access denied" when flashing. I have read this is an issue with mounting the drive, I have even tried to do this in fast boot but I am coming up with nothing. Any help on this will be greatly appreciated.

I have a rooted Nexus 6. When I look into the Settings>Aobout Phone I can see that the Build version is LMY47D. When I'm trying to udpate to LMY47Z I'm getting a notification in recovery that my current system version is 5.0.2. Did anybody had a simillar problem? Is there any way to fix this except for flashing factory image?

no matter how many times you try, you will never ever be able to update your rooted n6 via ota. if any system files changed from stock, an ota will download but will always error out. you can update several ways.. a. you can flash a 5.1.1 ROM via twrp. or b. you can fastboot flash 5.1.1.
2 things.
1. You must be 100% stock, no root, no custom recovery to OTA
2. The 5.0.2 message if you look probably.mentions deestroy..this is.because TWRP is using 5.0.2 sources - butnits irrelevant anyway give point 1
I know I can't do OTA. I have tried to install the file in TRWP and got the same error message. When I try to sideload with adb I'm getting device not connected error. Does this mean that I have to install the factory image?

twrp can not flash the ota or system img. you flash the system img via fastboot(not adb) and while you're in your bootloader.

I did this for 5.1.1 -people seem to be using 5.1.1 (For Sprint, USC ONLY) (LMY47Z)
take factory image - Unzip everything and keep the following images: bootloader, radio, boot, recovery and system.
fastboot flash bootloader bootloader.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot flash radio radio.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot format cache
fastboot reboot
fully stock 5.1.1 without losing your data

He'll probably want to not flash recovery. And if he has a custom kernel, may not want to flash boot either.
Thanks for all the answers! Some sites clearly don't know anything about this as there's a lot of recommendation to use adb for all this. I'll have a go tomorrow! Thanks again.

here too, many people try it with adb then claim it doesn't work. but its fastboot that you need, and while you are in the bootloader. adb will never work in the bootloader, only fastboot.

Here is my problem
I successfully unlocked my bootloader and I flashed latest maunofrio twrp v35
In TWRP, I did a full wipe in TWRP and formatted data partition to remove encryption
But now, I can't boot again in twrp and I'm stucked in fastboot.
Vol UP + power does not boot in twrp but still in fastboot..
When I hit the command : fastboot flash recovery recovery.img, it says OK
But fastboot boot recovery.img no longer workos now, failed
( before wiping and formatting all it worked )
I don't know what to do now to access twrp..
Any help is very appreciated

Try another recovery and if it failed try full flash latest stable rom
Well, I have been warning so many times that use any TWRP in MI9:
1. format data partition
2. reboot TWRP and then enter twrp. Make twrp mount data partition
3. wipe everything BUT please keep system partition only
4. reboot twrp and then enter twrp again
5. Now wipe system partition and then flash any rom you want
6. reboot
How to save your phone now ? Please try fastboot ROM and use miflash app to save your phone !

After flashing recovery-TWRP-3.3.1-0607-REDMI_K20-CN-wzsx150.img - fastboot boot twrp.img goes okay
And then after "fastboot boot twrp.img" the phone restarts and is just stuck on the "semitransparent" MI logo...
I can press Vol+- and power buttons and boot into Mi 3 recovery, wipe data, set up the phone again. And then it is all over again. I am new to this and probably making some basic mistake?
EDIT. I think the mistake was to trying to use a wrong TWRP...
Some questions here:
1. Is Redmi K20 CN the same as Mi9T?
If yes, that twrp is correct and the best one
2.After flashing twrp, can you enter twrp by general
method : power + volume up to enter twrp?
If yes, I think the problem is coming from your data
partition. Please format your data partition first and
then reboot to Twrp again. Then copy your rom in your
phone and then wipe cache/ dalvik cache/system. Next
to flash rom. Always Remeber not to reboot your
phone if you haven't flashed rom under twrp after
flashing system partition.

Download the fastboot rom (Google it )then flash it with miflashtool just make sure the archive of the ROM is "tgz"before you unzip it .

This is what I had to do both times this happened.

I used the same TWRP and I also wiped system.

As i understand, you wiped system and then restarted? And now you can enter only fastboot?
When you wipe system you must flash a ROM without restart or after restart, only fastboot available. TWRP version has nothing to do with this.
Now you must use mi flash or adb and fastboot utility. Download fastboot version of ROM, then open archive and flash it using mi flash or flash_all.bat script. flash_all_lock.bat will also lock your bootloader and mi flash has that option too, so check twice what option you choose
After flashing ROM you can flash TWRP again and it will be available, because by flashing ROM you restored system
I had the same problem.
Try to flash vbmeta.img via fastboot (fastboot --disable-verity flash vbmeta vbmeta.img) and then flash recovery then boot recovery.
Or try to flash boot.img (fastboot flash boot boot.img) then flash recovery.

I got you chief. Make sure you have adb and fastboot installed.
No you don't need Mi flash tool for this. All you need is a computer.
Go to fastboot mode, plug in your device and expand cepheus.tgz file you downloaded. Link below

Now open the folder. You have the flash_all files in there. Any .bat file is for Windows only. Any .sh files are for Mac and Linux.
Make sure the device is recognized in fastboot via cmd or terminal
WINDOWS ONLY: Open Command prompt and drag flash_all.bat into the cmd window and press enter
MAC/LINUX: Open terminal and drag flash_all.sh into the terminal window and press enter.
This part requires some patience. Wait until everything is finished.
Reboot using power button and it should be back to normal.

I deciden to install Android 10 Beta 3 then install a custom rom. I succesfully installed Android 10 Beta 3, and tried to install Magisk as told in here. After the patched boot.img step, my device stopped booting.
When I press Power+Volume Up or Down, it always goes to fastboot mode. I can't boot into recovery from fastboot, I can't boot TWRP from fastboot. I tried:
fastboot oem reboot-recovery
fastboot boot twrp.img
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
As shown in the image rebooting into recovery always failing. What can I do?

You might have to use the QFIL method to get your phone going again. Remember you MUST backup the EFS partition and anything associated with your phones imei and SN

flash the boot partition then flash stock recovery then try to flash twrp then try to flash a custom or stock rom what you want.

Hey guy,
My phone was running the rom "UL-ASUS_X00QD-ASUS-AOSP-17.0615.2005.25-1.1.1-user.zip" (downloaded from Asus Web). I tried to install the TWRP ver 3.3.1 unofficial and my phone was stuck on the fastboot mode only.
After a lot of searching on how to fix the issue, I didn't change anything and almost gave up, until I've read this thread.
My Asus Zenfone 8 flip is STUCK in CSC FASTBOOT MODE PLZ HELP!, RAW FIRMWARE ANYONE???
These are what I did to get the phone into the recovery mode:
1. Extract the rom zip file that my phone was running on.
2. Copy the file boot.img to adb folder.
3. On PC, at adb folder enter CMD, connect the phone then type
fastboot -w
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot reboot recovery
4. After that, my phone can be booted into the recovery mode.
Hope you can solve the same problem as me.
