It has many mods preinstalled so it should be bigger.
288mb is used from System alone in my Turbo 5.0 Build

I am now on mokee 7.1 and have always almost 400mb free

Just stay away from Turbo ROM, I'm using it right now. (Not sure if it's an Android 6.1 Issue or just from Turbo ROM) Right now at this moment of writing my system is taking 484MB of RAM and my apps 230MB leaving me with 178MB free. Rebooting the phone fixes the issue for some time. (I'm not using Xposed nor anything similar, just Greenify).
Anybody from here knows if Android 7.1 requires more RAM than 6.1? Is it worth (or even possible) to downgrade our phone to Kitkat to get that extra RAM boost? Or is it better to stick arround with Lolipop+ ROMs?

I'm on turbo ROM 4.0 and atm I've got 280 mb free RAM and that's what I have most of the time. Free RAM is unused RAM, I think you know that? Don't install all that facebook and messenger stuff and you will have always enough headroom to handle your device properly.

The awesomeness of Turbo ROM.. I really hope that not all of the ROMs are like that..
P.D: This cannot be normal.. (Look at the second picture).. Android system is taking 700MB+!! Wtf??.. I don't have Facebook, nor any custom hacks.. Is this normal? Seriously?... Is there any ROM that works normal? Sometimes I would really like to smash this phone against the floor..

Android system is taking 700+mb?
That's what your whole phone takes.
I'm on turbo 4.0 official and system is using 205mb. If you have s phone with only 1gb ram (885 free) you can't expect wonders. More RAM would solve this problems.

Yes, you are right I took the picture in the wrong place. I just noticed that on my phone (Turbo Rom 5.0) my system is taking at least half of the phone available RAM for the system ONLY. I't usually between 450 to 580 MB. When I took the previous picture I thought that the System RAM usage rose to 700 (It looks the same). But I still believe that having the system taking half or more of RAM available must be wrong anyway (Look at he picture in this post).
Anybody can give some suggestions how to reduce System RAM usage? Or is it ROM dependent? (I'm not using any mods like Xposed nor other UI Mods)

I just installed Mokee 7.1, let it settle down a bit and right now my System is taking about 450 MB.. How can you have 400 MB free?
Anybody can tell how much the System in Minimal OS is taking?

You have 348 MB free, I used to have 370/380 MB free which is ALMOST 400 MB.
I said ALMOST, not exactly
But my system didn't take as much ram as yours. I had those 380 free but with more apps

Milestone available memory :(

My milestone run MIUI rom 1.7.8. Available memory is about 20-30 MB , so when I opened camera and taked a picture, It stucked there for a couple minutes. Then I rebooted my phone and Available memory is 40-50 MB, and nothing wrong with the camera ?? How can I fix the memory problem?? please help
Sorry for my English
I do believe that's because when you had 20~30 mb free, there were many others apps running in memory.
The camera app froze the phone 'cause it had no free memory.
When you restarted your phone you had more free memory because you were not running all those app you probably were before.
Sucks, but Milestone's memory is really low

Ok clearly you are new to milestone. The thing is when you bought the phone it was probably running 2.1 eclair or 2.0 which uses very little ram: it had the least features (no jit or a2sd) hence it's the lightest on ram. However you have to understand that since froyo google has been trying to add more features to android and use exisitng resources to boost performance and since Google's flagship phone at the time of froyo was the nexus one (which had 512mb of ram whereas the milestoen only has 256mb of ram) and so they used ram to boost performance which is essentiall what JIT is. So there's an issue. The milestone is already short on ram and 2.2/2.3 uses more ram which is why they are sometimes slower (not all, something like froyo mod or cronos ginger/ho!no! is bloody fast) which is why you have less free ram.
but over to MIUI which has even MORE features than stock gb which means it uses up even MORE ram which is why you have so little free ram. use this script, it should help the ram issue http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991276

well yes and no. in my experience you can have miui with zepplinrox's script but still only have around 30-45mb of free ram whereas on froyomod you can get far more.
I liked using cronos ginger but the thing is feeyo's roms have a lot of bugs and arent updated to the latest sources which is why they are usually a little bit behind.
Cronos GB 1.5.0 is really fast. And yes, it has bugs, but nothing impossible to live with.
This is the fastest GB rom I've tried ..

With the script, you can use slot 3 to choose how much free ram you want.
Performance levels out beyond 30mb free tho.
And android will make more ram available if needed anyway.
I use Froyomod and I have around 37 MB free after startup. I tried to play Cut the rope but it keeps killing it. Also happens with Google Maps. Could this be a problem of low memory?

So I'm sure we all know about launcher redraws and such, how to reduce such issues? My BL is unlocked but I'm enjoying doomkernel and don't want to take the plunge into CM just yet

You can try using Clean Master.Recently a user had problem with ram management(especially when playing games) and clean master fixed his issue. You should also try it or wait for android 4.3 and hope for a better ram management :fingers-crossed:

I tried clean master yesterday but the result was not great... I search some tuto about how to use it and if I understand well, it's just a task killer.
I also tried an experiment : I enabled the little widget (in clean master) which show the percentage of RAM used in real time, then I opened a game (dear hunter 2014).
After 1 minute in the game, the percentage of RAM used (if the information of clean master is exact) was 67% and suddenly, the widget disappeared : I think all the app in background had been closed. So why? It shouldn't happend because a lot of RAM was free.
And finally, even with all app in background killed, after 2/3 minutes, I have a FC in the game...
So if someone has an idea/theory about what happen with RAM management, I would be very happy to know!
Informations :Xperia SP Rooted, BL Locked, ROM : Existenz 1.3.7.

I'm not sure we are talking about the same "widget". I'm talking about the option "flotting widget". And yes, it is supposed to stay all the time on screen (and by the way it stayed a minute aproximatly).

Thank you for the answer and the idea.
But I really would understand what happen with the RAM.
Before, I used LMT Launcher (pie control) and the same thing happened: LMT was killed after 1 minute in the game.
To sum up: I have 300mb RAM free, I open the game and then all app are killed. And I don't understand why. The game don't use more than 300 mb RAM no?
Plus, this problem don't happen with my brother's galaxy tab 3 (1Gb RAM too).

First of all you can click the thanks button .That's why it is there to shorten the length of telling thanks.Back to our point.
LMT things that your game is eating a lot ram and doesn't know if you are really using it.So it kills it to save up ram.
Each games uses different amount of ram.Like a 2d game would use 50mb ram and a 3d game may use 100mb of ram.
It depends on.Xperia SP has a bad ram management for now and onwards to the next version (4.3) it will be fixed a lot.
The rollout starts early Feb / ends of Jan...You can wait a little can't you?

My RAM usage is about that high, 700mb. But since the Z1 has about 1.6 gb of RAM, you shouldn't really worry. If it does get to the point where apps stop working or services become unresponsive, restart the phone or kill the app that's using the RAM. I believe when your RAM usage is about 1.5 GB it starts becoming a bit unresponsive.
Nexus uses less RAM because it only has stock apps. Sony has their own software running in the background along with some of Google's apps.

That doesn't makes sense. As long as your device isn't unresponsive or laggy you shouldn't bother about RAM-Usage. Android handles your available Memory quite well.
Try looking at it like this:
There isn't any use in having more and more RAM, if people on the other hand go and try to keep the RAM-usage low. As long as you don't have problems (lags or such) having free RAM is just eyecandy.
Additionally:
For every app killed, Android needs to load it from storage the next time, resulting in more battery drain than just letting it idle in memory

RAM management with CM13

Guys, who have already flashed cm13 on their device, how is the RAM management.
I know its AOSP RAM management but how much free RAM are you getting on 1st boot?
Also is it able to keep things in memory like games and browser tabs?

I honestly don't know, I've never monitored free memory since using devices with more than or 2GB of memory (Nexus 4).
And I don't think it even matters.

On CM13 here and can keep about 1.5, 1.6gb free. But, multitasking just work! When I was on MIUI every time I must reload the app... Now I can hold apps and some games. I recommend CM
Multitasking work better than miui, you dont need more free ram, as long as system didnt lag, all working fine on cm

Ram Usage on LineageOS

How much RAM do you usually have in custom roms? In LineageOS I'm getting 500mb available, and with the operating system spending 800 ~ 1gb, is this normal? (mi5 32gb 3gb)
I'm with the same "issue". It's normal? You got a fix?
Don't care about this
You don't need to care about this,Android will automatically manage RAM.
Android N is smart
Have the same situation , lineage doesnt kill all app background action like miui. However, i statisfy with the performance and at least, it doesnt show the ram available like miui, so i absolutely dont be annoyed about it
If you do much care about RAM then try some slim ROM.
