What rom to choose? - Xiaomi Mi MIX Questions & Answers

Hello, I'm about to buy a MiMixPro, I have the possibility to choose the rom. Which one do I choose? The Chinese / English original, or the vendor with google and more languages?
Sent from my HUAWEI P8max using Tapatalk

The vendor one, with Google apps and extra languages, hands down.
The Chinese one will:
1) come with bootloader locked. The vendor one is likely to have it unlocked already.
2) have extra garbage
3) have some options for defaults hard to change (search, browser, MI store)
4) GAPPS installation may not be problem-free
5) unlocking.... you'll need to flash Chinese dev ROM, link MI account in it, apply for unlock, wait, pray, maybe for days, while other people say: "I got mine in half an hour...."

But the with the Vendor one I can't make ota updates?
And I need a not rooted rom to install my bank pay app.
I think it's easy to install Google play ect?
Sent from my HUAWEI P8max using Tapatalk

The Global/EU/vendor ROM has the updater app, but I don't think this weekly build will receive updates through it.
It doesn't come pre-rooted. You could install TWRP and flash new EU builds on top of it... theoretically.

Same question here!
Just bought the Pro Version and it comes with Google Play and Multi Language, but no OTA updates.
I really want OTA updates but want Google Play.

Hi, I just talked with the sales man and explain to me that if I can use English the original rom is much better for me, because is more stable, and have ota updates. He said that the vendor version have updates menu but is imposible that can recive updates because it is a modifayed version.
I don't know if it's true, but this is that sales man explain to me.
Thanks

If you want Ota, you don't want a vendor rom.
I'm in the process of installing the stuff on the Chinese Rom and it's not that bad with proper instructions.
European rom is friendlier with Google stuff., but less stable for some.

I have kept the original OEM ROM that comes on the unit in the sealed box. MIUI also updated OTA to 8.0.10.0 very quickly and smoothly. I eliminated as many Chinese built-in apps that I either could not read or were not relevant to North American life/usage. I installed Google Play using the Mi App store method.
What is better/friendlier about the way the EU ROM works with the Google Apps?

I'm still having an issue where google play apps download very slowly over wifi.
Every other app downloads quite fast - it's just google play.
Google play movies can't be played on the Chinese ROM either.
So there's some weird things like that.

Hi.
I think if you are china person, the best way, choose china ROM. remaining we have to choice the from globle rom. The reason: some soft, totally with china languish, con not understand. And they don't have google play.

In the settings of the Mi Store app there is something called "download manager" or "download booster", can't really remember. Either way, disable it since it connects to a chinese proxy and is really buggy and slow.
Also, there has been reports of vendor roms that worked perfectly fine, but had malwares and keyloggers installed. It wouldn't be fun when all your pw's are suddenly changed, would it?
Also, for the love of god, don't use a banking app on a vendor rom. That's just way too risky.

My bank app to pay with the phone need a not rooted and a not modified rom.
Can I install EU rom with out root?
If I can install it, is a modified version or not?

I moved over to the EU rom because of the Google Play slowness issue. But I still have it too. I'm not convinced its a Rom issue tho, Maybe its Google?
I even made sure that Xunlei download accelerator was disabled, sometimes Google Play is fast, sometimes it crawls. Very odd. But with root I think we should be able to find it?

I disabled almost all things MIUI (rooted),about 50 .apks in total.
I can post screenshots later this evening of what's disabled,if you'd like to take a look.

On the Global vendor ROM, yes, until I disabled most everything MIUI.
On the EU ROM, I had no issues pre or post root/disabling (currently on rooted EU ROM).

is there any good reason why you prefer the EU vs the Official CN rom? i am not sure which one to go for at the moment.

The EU ROM seems to have better memory management, not as aggressive in killing recent apps/activities.

Finally Official Miui 6 for Redmi Note 3g Released

It's Finally Released......................Miui 6 for Redmi Note 3g
Note: It's China Developer Rom, Global will be released after some time.(Remember Before Flashing it, it will not have Gapps Pre-installed you can install using Google Installer ).
Download Link: http://en.miui.com/download-218.html#313
Enjoy Flashing It. Cheers
I finally got time to test it
Performance: 9/10 as all know
Battery: 9/10 yeah it's that good
Camera: 10/10 yes it's improved over miui 5 4.2jb, seriously that camera was really pixel burst i hate that, but in this miui 6 it's really beautiful as redmi note 3g was meant originally for miui 6.
Verdict: overall its great rom, the only bug is that ussd, who cares(do you?? i don't ), so it can be really used on daily basis no lag and really smooth and it's just only developer rom, so think about the performance and stability when global/chinese version will be released(naming miui 6.x.x on the rom), now we all can get more than best out of our device, the true octa-core performance and other amazing hardware, so guys after waiting with patience it's finally our time
WAIT!!!!!! I Also did Nenamark2 benchmark which gave me 61.5 fps which is amazzzinnnggg
Nenamrk2 v2.4 : 61.5 fps

can you please share your experience about this rom??? it's performance, bugs, etc.
its a decent os. less bugs, accept ussd still transparant. what the heck, i never use them anyway.
battery become more stable from my end.
im using gapps installed in previous version. i dont think China rom include gapps.
im using as normal phone. mostly for bbm and whatsapp, and taptalk. seldom for actual calling.
im using data from sim 1. sim 2 can, but only edge. not bad for 2ndary backup.
Antutu result after installing 5.4.3 in performance mode.
ROOR HELP
any one know how to root this version? Redmi Note 3G Miui 6 Developer?
I need to restore backup using titanium but it ask for root access.... :crying:
be careful using titanium backup. most of titanium failed to restore. best way is backing up with pc by copying all data.
developer rom is already rooted. after running an app that require root, go to :
security > permissions > root access
then, you should see your app (that need root youve just ran) in there. toggle it to activate root.

2 Questions: Does new firmware wipe storage and I see a mention of Xposed, does it come pre installed already?
Has anyone noticed changes or improvements in 2.11? Or is it really just a bugfix update, as the OTA said?

Hi guys I'm currently a couple issues, one I'm sure has to do with xposed, and the other has to do with gmail.
The only reason why I'm posting here is because I only seem to have these issues with this rom.
I've installed the version of xposed (74) and the firmware (2.11) linked in the op.
Also whenever I go into the gmail app it tells me unknown issue with Google Play services and the force closes.
Is anyone else having these issues?

How did you flash the rom, clean, dirty? Did you restore any data from twrp or any backups?
I've been running this since I built it and have not had any issues at all, not sure about any others as there are not many posts here.

I would verify md5 of the Rom, and make sure you are using the arm64 xposed, maybe download xposed again. After installing xposed, does it go through the long android updating process?
I have flashed this close to 100 times and on 3 different M9's, never had any issues.
almost 80 downloads between the two Roms and only got one feedback so I don't know of any issues
I clean flashed the rom again and it seemed to fix my gmail problem.
I'm downloading xposed again I'll edit my post to say what happens
Edit: I guess I just had a bad download. Thanks

Here are my MIUI 8 Global ROMS for the Mi Max Helium (64/128GB versions.) I'll update the rom as each new Global stable build is released. I recommend an unlocked bootloader and TWRP to flash this although it will also work fine with a locked bootloader and TWRP. I will keep these as close to stock as possible while maintaining most of the stock features. I am not responsible for bricked devices as a result of flashing this on a locked bootloader. You have been warned.
Features:
AdAway
Debloated
Insecure boot.img
Latest Gboard
Louder Volume Mod
Nougat Boot Animation
Rooted with Magisk
Instructions:
This is for 64/128gb Helium only. Do not flash this on 32gb Hydrogen or you'll have a bricked phone
Unlock your bootloader
Boot into TWRP
Do a backup
Wipe and flash ROM or dirty flash ROM
That's it, you're done!

HELPFUL TIPS:
To permanently set your region if you own the Chinese version, edit the cust/cust/cn/cust.prop and change the region to US and variant to us (or whatever region you're in) then reboot. Your region will stick.
Do not do any OTA's if they come up or you will be in a softbrick.
If you're having an issue PLEASE STATE YOUR PHONE MODEL AND WHETHER YOU CLEAN OR DIRTY FLASHED. Saying you're having an issue without providing any information about the problem will result in your problem not getting fixed.
If you flash or recover a new rom and your lockscreen pin doesn't work, boot into twrp and delete the locksettings.db file in data/system. Then when you restart the pin will be gone.

Reserved
Gonna try it with locked bootloader and report back.
Edit:Yeah, booted just fine on locked.
I usually don't use custom roms, unless I made them myself.
That's exactly what I was planned to do:
Bloat-free miui with root.
You just saved me a lot of time.

32gb is a hydrogen device, you already have global.
This one is for 64-128gb.
If you want global, you can install it via fastboot. It's all available at miui com.
If you need root, then you can either use my guide, or if you are planning to play with cm based ROMs, then you will want to unlock.
@ajsmsg78, I played a little with a rom.
Things I've noticed so far:
In build.prop device is still hydrogen.
And I saw you removed video player...but there is a another app called miuivideoplayer and it's dependent on removed player. Basically when you open a video in file explorer it may result FC, and you can't choose default player unless you remove the second app as well.
Idk why,but hw decoder is broken for some video formats in Mx Player.
The "default app" setting is for external apps, not for build in file manager.
Also had one reboot on a clear phone, while I was setting permissions in a security app and 'Locale" is keep switching to China .

The "default app" setting is for external apps, not for build in file manager.
Also had one reboot on a clear phone, while I was setting permissions in a security app and 'Locale" is keep switching to China .

I can fix the build.prop but i was using the entire system from the Global rom. I removed Google videos which you can download from the Play Store. Removing MiuiVideoPlayer is what causes the force closes. On one of my flashes of a build I was working on before I must have had a bad flash because I had a few random reboots while uninstalling some apps while testing it. On this build I haven't had any. To set the locale permanently to your region, go to /cust/cn and edit the cust.prop and change the region and cust_variant to your region then reboot. Thanks for letting me know these things, I appreciate the feedback as well

Here is MIUI 8 Global ROM for the Mi Max Helium. I wanted to post a link to the rom so you guys can download it. I'll finish the thread soon. The rom is pre-rooted with SuperSU, busybox and is lightly debloated. I removed some of the preinstalled Google Apps to save space as you can simply download them from the Play Store. Included is AdAway. I'll update the rom as each new Global build is released. I recommend an unlocked bootloader and TWRP to flash this although it will also work fine with an unlocked bootloader and TWRP.

Dude, let me tell you right now: YOU TOTALLY ROCK!
You cured all of my problems with your Custom ROM. This is exactly what I wanted right from the start. I will spare you the details, but I am actually going to really start enjoying this device now!
I'll be following this thread for your updates!
Thank you!
Will be using your donate link!
@ajsmsg78 Nice update to the thread! Enjoying your custom ROM!
this looks great - i cant wait to try it
So far so great, but I did notice a couple of odd things.
1) After a reboot my locale switches from United States back to China
2) It appears "ROOT" has disappeared from the Settings/Permissions area...?
Great ROM. Exposed framework doesn't seem to work, can install frame work and modules but nothing happens when activated. Is it a MIUI thing?

You need xposed framework for miui. Is that the one you installed?
V86. I suppose some modules wont work on miui8
You need special miui framework. Install this installer http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/material-design-xposed-installer-t3137758, go to MIUI tab and download miui version...
Or search for it here or miui forum.

Its more chinese but have more oneplus apps like app store(chinese),browser(looks like from miui imo better but still chinese), chinese oneplus forum app, have switch layout in home app(same like oos beta), icon packs (folio, system default, and light) mail app(i can't login in to my google acc net::ERR_CONNECTION_RESET) also have note app and "cardpackage" app (also have baidu keyboard and aosp and some chinese junk apps)
if you want to have play store you need to download apk from internet (also you need to download .xcf file if you have your contacts on google account)
Generally looks like OOS 4.0 without google apps + oneplus apps.
Google Sync doesnt work.
Battery life of Beta 7 was better.

Are you able to to get to the Google Now panel by swiping right? The way I read the XDA article about this release of the launcher, as long as you are on a Pixel or Nexus device, root is not required (even though I have root) and it is not required to be installed as a system app.
Quote from the XDA article:
"All you have to do is download the Pixel Launcher that we uploaded below and install it onto your device. It doesn’t need to be installed onto the system partition (meaning it doesn’t need root), and if you already have the Pixel Launcher installed then it will just install right on top of it. Enjoy!"
I have tried installing the new launcher over the older one I had installed and doing a clean install of the the new .apk you referenced and the .apk referenced in the XDA article and I cannot get swipe to the right to take me to the Google Now panel. The calendar/weather widget is working fine so I'm not sure what I am doing wrong. Any ideas?

I think XDA post means that Pixel 2 launcher itself doesn't require root to work, but the google now feature still need root access.

Thanks for your response. Some additional research I did (which I won't bore everyone with for such a small issue) also seems to indicate that Google Now will work with the new Pixel Launcher without it being installed as a system app. If it ends up that it does need to be installed as a System app I'm going to switch back to Launcher3, which lets Google Now work without Launcher3 being installed as a System app, and it has some other nice features.

There is a rootless mod version here . However, the vanilla pixel 2 launcher still need to be installed as a system app.

I saw that earlier, I really don't want to do a bunch of work arounds. If I get no other by the time I wake up tomorrow afternoon I'm going back to launcher3. It worked perfectly for me without modifications and I have it backed up with Titanium Backup so it's just I simple restore to get back to where I was. Thanks.
Seems to work out of the box with version 1.2. No work arounds required

Absolutely, Launcher3 version 2.1 works great but I have seen some decreased battery life using it. I like the new calendar/weather widget and the bottom search bar in the new Pixel launcher from the Pixel 2 so that is why I switched. Both of those work great after I installed the new Pixel launcher and my battery life increased quite dramatically, but I can't get swipe right to access the Google Now panel to work. From the XDA article here, the way I read it is if you have a Pixel or Nexus phone the .apk does not have to be installed as a system app for the Google Now panel to work:
"We should note that the Google Now panel will not work if you install the official version below on a non-Google Nexus or Pixel device as the Pixel Launcher needs to be installed as a system app in order for it to show the Google Now panel"
It indicates the same in the install instructions:
"It doesn’t need to be installed onto the system partition (meaning it doesn’t need root)"
There is a modded version that allows the Google Now panel to work on non Pixel and Nexus devises but I have a Nexus so I don't think I should need to use the modded version:
"Alternatively, you can install this modified version of the Google Pixel Launcher by XDA Senior Member paphonb. His version works on non-Google devices and allows you to use the Google Now panel"
Maybe I am just reading it incorrectly but it reads that the unmodified version will allow swipe right to access the Google Now panel.

I use Magisk for root. Do you know if making it a system app with Titanium Backup will mess up passing the SafetyNet check?

I converted it to a system app using Titanium Backup and it doesn't appear to have affected the SafetyNet status. If Launcher3 is updated to include the calendar/weather widget and the bottom search bar I'll probably switch back as I like some of the other features it offers.
I actually just found that there is a Magisk module called "App Systemizer" that would have probably done what you where looking for also.
guys there is a link to the newest google wallpapers.on this youtube video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=97-4GjMzOgw
i installed them and it fixed the white "G" in the search bar to the multicolored one.
it looks amazing

Wrong times in Now Cards
Hello everyone. The application is installed as a system. Everything works as well, except for the time of the sports cards. Shows my upcoming games with a wrong time zone, not my local time. This happens only on the preview of the football match itself (shows 2:45 PM). When clicking on the card with the additional information, the correct time is displayed (in this case 21:45). See attached images.
Where to search for the problem - in Pixel Launcher, in Google App, or my account? If it matters, I delete the data of both apps and set them up again without success ...
By returning an old version of Pixel Launcher this problem is gone.
What is the best way to get the Pixel bottom Navbar? I see a lot of screenshots with the Pixel Navbar. I'm running Pixel 2 Launcher, rooted.
Highly the final version !!! I prefer to stay for the moment on MOKEE
