2 New Moto Mods - Moto Z Play Accessories

In case anyone missed it, there are 2 new mods for the Moto Z platform:
- a Mophie 3000mAh battery pack, currently available on Verizon store at about 80 USD. It adds a little bit of bulk with about 8.9mm
- a soon to come Incipio Car Dock at 65 USD. A bit pricey if you ask me, but should be interesting with automatically launching Android Auto and an auxiliary cable to plug into a car stereo.
Motorola also claims that there will be 4 new mods at the end of every quarter in 2017, including one with the Google Tango technology.
Looks like the Moto mods ecosystem is growing. Should be interesting :good:

Thanks for the heads up!

I hope to see a bike mount, with some added feature so it can work as a cycling computer, that would be kinda cool

Agreed 100 percent! If they were all around 30 - 50.. Maybe $60 tops I would buy a bunch. Obviously the camera and projector is another story. But still, they are a little high as well.

We did the Gamepad Mod!
Check out our Mod on Indiegogo! It's called the Sidepad Mod

Nexus 10 Official Dock?

Just watched the Android Christmas Card video....there is a Nxxus 10 dock pictured right at the 1:00 mark...hoping this is real. Looks like it is.
It's certainly encouraging. With the news of the POGO pin connector, the pictures of the Nexus 7 dock and now this video from the Android Team, I'm very hopeful. I know I will buy the dock as soon as it is released.
It would be a Christmas miracle!
Will it charge faster than the micro usb?
Otherwise why waste the money.

Some of us wants to be able to use a dock as a dock... charging faster will be a plus for me but i'd like to use an official POGO pin dock that I can place on my counter to charge as I browse. Or even slow the battery drain when I play music/movie.
TLDR: Having a dock is freaking awesome.

A dock offers more then just charging... It also serves.. as a stand.
Also audio out for your stereo/speakers.

Good eye! I was hoping we'd see a dock with pricing and delivery at CES next month. Can't wait to get one so I can hack it...
Guess it does mean, a dock is coming, couldn't care less about it though I would prefer if they would release an official keyboard dock like the one ASUS transformer has.
I wouldn't be waiting for this to come out as Nexus device accessories don't have the best track record. *Waiting on Nexus 4 orb charger*
while u wait get the energizer qi on amazon, i found one for 50 bux totally worth it
The nexus 7 dock looks nice but I thought the nexus 10 dock looked too small and the tablet didn't seem very secure /stable /safe in it. I wish they made it longer.

Nocoast, shame you can't use it on the n10. I'm sad no company has made a generic qi home dock for phones and tablets. I'm even more sad no company has made a universal car qi dock.
I use touchstones in the car and house for my gnex and the wife's s3. Of prefer having something more future proof for phones like the n4 that have it built in. Hardware jacks aren't that fun. The touchstone are nice and small though, but the phone angles will in it are shallow. Pivot mount mechanism works in the car though.
I gotta say I don't think that's a dock at all, it doesn't make sense to have a 4 inch dock for 10 inch tablet, I think that was just a generic plastic stand
Hmm, have you ever seen an official iPad dock? there is a reason behind that, the tablet is not small, big dock will look bulky and no aesthetic with it, maybe Apple know something we don't , but then again there are magnets, we also don't know what the shape of it, maybe it holds still, and actually similar to iPad dock...just my thoughts :cyclops:

The N10 is my first Nexus product & I expected more from Google in the way of accessories. I work for B&N & we have the widest & most varied selection of accessories that I have ever seen for any device under one roof. Perhaps I'm just spoiled, but I don't think my expectations are too high. Google has the capability to provide accessories & I don't understand why they haven't.

Good quality Bluetooth earbuds

I'm looking for some BT earbuds, better than average quality primarily for music to replace the Jabra 620s I have now. I'd like to keep the cost <$50.
I've seen a few suggestions here, but reviews on Amazon haven't been all that stellar. Any recommendations?

Some people had a few difficulties with the 730 when it was released and this is reflected in some of the reviews. I am not having any problems on the Nexus 10 or my Samsung Galaxy Note 2.

Any idea how it would work with a ski helmet? Does it block sound?
I've used the LG HBS-700 set for about a year. Love them, but had to send it in for repair after 4 months when the battery wouldn't hold a charge. Got them back and it's been good since.

If you buy the the LG's be sure to hit up newegg and check the reviews on the HBS 730...I have both the 700 and the 730, 730 sounds better but has really awful reception compared to the 700. The reviews will confirm this.

I actually have the HBS-700's, not the 730's. I am not a skier, but if regular earbuds fit under a ski helmet, these should too. You would want to keep the part that you wear on your neck under a jacket or something so they don't fly off.

The sound quality is wonderful and the noise-cancellation is great on airplanes, in server farms, working w/ power tools, etc. Check it out!

There are cheaper and more expensive units. Sony, samsung and Habra has something similar. There is a black version for 20. Just look at amazon and look around for a bit. Good thing also is that you can hook a 3.5mm aux cable and connect it to speakers, car stereos, receivers and a lot more. A lot more versatile than bluetooth only headsets but i like a lot of functionality for devices and accessories. But you can pay more and have less options but hey you'll have "cool" bluetooth only headphones if you like.

Moto X As Music Player/Backup phone

Hey guys, I've currently got the note 3 and absolutely love it. The only problem is that when at the gym and outside, the note 3 is a bit too wieldly to use as a music player. It keeps falling out of my pocket during sets and kind of kills the vibe.
I've got an iPod 5th gen but after getting back to android, I use it less than an hour per week. So I guess my question is: do you think the Moto X would be a good alternative to the IPod as a music player and to have a glance at notifications? It's a good size and is very pocketable. I also plan to use it as a backup phone when travelling and camping.
Im selling my iPod on eBay so I'll be using that money to possibly buy a Moto X on eBay. Some of the phones on eBay have a bad ESN but I live here in Aus so will that affect me at all?
Sorry if its a bit long but thanks in advanced guys
Sent from my SM-N9005 using xda app-developers app
If you are looking at a music player for the gym, I would honestly say that something like an iPod shuffle or a SanDisk player might be better....
Now as a phone I think you will really like this device! Active notifications and touch less controls really make this phone unique. Plus the curved back and dimple in the back of the phone make it have a truly amazing form factor. Specs don't look the greatest on this device, however they don't exactly site what you are getting either.
For a music player, and just using this as a dedicated gym device I personally don't see the point (not trying to sound rude). As a phone I would say this would be an amazing device if you are willing to give up the screen real estate and S-pen.
All and all I wish you the best of luck in your decision as I do understand the problem you are having and that you want to look after your devices. Just my two cents though. I wish you a good day.
Sent from my XT1058 using xda app-developers app
Thanks heaps for the reply. I didnt see it rude at all.
But yeah that's true, I would probably be better off just using one of my old iPods for the gym but wanted to use the Moto X for when I'm out and about. The note 3 is just a bit annoying to keep having to remove from my jeans just to change the song.
I still want to use the note 3 as my main device buy just have the Moto X as my dedicated music player and backup phone. Now I'm kind of doubting if its a good idea. What do you think? I might see how much the iPod sells for then decide from there.

Tough call. With the announcement of Motorola dropping the price to $300, it very well might be worth it if you can justify the price.
I did the opposite of you, switched to the Moto X and kept my Note 2 as a tablet/backup phone.
My Moto X is my daily driver (coming from an S4...). I use it at the gym for music and watch downloaded TV shows (when on cardio machines). I find the X is great at the gym because of the active notifications - just need to hold the notification to see who it is + subject, let go and screen goes off and it's back in my pocket.
Sound isn't quite as good as the S4 with the same headphones - using something like PowerAmp you can adjust the EQ to get desired fidelity.

Sorry I didn't read all the replies, but my girlfriend got me some bluetooth headphones last year for Christmas to use on the treadmill. I like listening to music but don't care for armbands or holding my phone in my pockets, so it I put it in the small cubby space on the treadmill. This required a rather long headphones cord to keep from pulling the headphones out of my ears.
I was skeptical about the BT headphones but they work great. There aren't super fancy ones, maybe $50, but they work very well and have player controls built in, as well as a phone functions, but I've never used the phone functions.
It allows me to set the phone down with my water bottle and not worry about it. I use the "gym" (can't really call it that) at my apartment so I just leave it sitting with my jacket (it's a pretty small room), but if you just move it from machine to machine it would work fine, in my opinion.
It would also allow you to keep your stuff on the note and not have to swap devices around etc. Just my thoughts.

Yeah I really don't want to have to keep swapping data between the two phones so sounds greeat. The Moto X sounds perfect for gym use.
Now my only problem is that on further research, I found out that the Sprint version of the Moto X is CDMA and down here in Aus, we only use GSM. The only Moto X's in my price range are all Sprint versions with a Bad ESN. Im wondering if I am better off:
1) Buying the Moto x and not being able to use it as a backup phone (which isn't really important but would be a very nice option). Unless there is a way to use it here?
2) Buy a brand new Moto G
3) Buy a second hand HTC One with a bad speaker (needs replacing)
EDIT: 4) Buying a Moto X that has a smashed screen and wont turn on, hoping to fix it
All of these options fit my budget but really not sure on which one would be best. Anyones thoughts would be greatly appreciated
3 of those 4 options sound terrible. LOL. Get a new Moto g then. The only sensible option of the 4 you listed.

Or, you could save a tonne of money and just buy a good Bluetooth headset dongle like the Sony SBH-50, pair it to the Note 3, plug in your favourite pair of headphones, and get the best of all worlds. A small OLED screen for track info and caller id, volume,play/pause/next buttons, and a mic. It's under $80 CDN, so definitely in your price range. Lol.
A separate $300+ device to keep in sync and swapping SIM cards all the time? Is that really worth the hassle?

I was implying buying a pair of bluetooth headphones instead of a new device. Pair the headphones with the Note you already have and just don't keep it in your pocket. Then you don't have to swap devices, and you can listen to music, etc. Spend $100 on a nice pair of headphones instead of a few hundred on a phone that you'll only use for music.

Try something like the LG HBS-700. They are often on slickdeals for $40 or so shipped. Or here http://www.amazon.com/LG-Electronic...TF8&qid=1390925651&sr=1-2&keywords=LG+HBS-700 (slightly different model)
However if you're doing a lot of running you may prefer the type that twist around your ears
The ones my girlfriend got me for Christmas are these, or very similar to these: http://www.amazon.com/Philips-Accessories-SHB6017-28-Bluetooth/dp/B00560YMPI
She got them last year on sale, so I know she didn't pay that much for them.
They work very well because they do clip on to each ear and there is only a cord between them, so it doesn't bounce around on your head when you move or run. Sound quality is great and the battery lasts for quite a while. I use it for an hour or two on days when I work out and usually charge twice a week. Charges to full in about an hour, I believe.

USB C Audio-Jack Adaptor?

Overlooked this when buying the tablet, supprised there was no adaptor included. Are they assuming all the buyers are S10 users?
Anyway, will any adaptor work or does it have to be one from Samsung?

The adaptor has to have a dac built in or it will not work with the tablet same with the note 10
The Note 10 dongle has a DAC built in. It should work for the tab s6. I have one ordered right now.
I have USB C audio adapter from Huawei Mate 20 Pro, but when i connect it to the tablet, a message appears that the usb device is not supported.
I have S5e, but it should apply S6
I have few different USB C headset adapter for Pixel and HTC U11 Life, both work as it's supposed to
As much as I hate to say it, the cheap Apple one is one of the best you can get unless you're willing to spend quite a bit more. Did a bunch of reading after I ordered my Note 10+, tests put the Apple one ahead of the Google ones and plenty of others that cost 5 times as much as the Apple one. Works well, but as with all things Apple the cable is going to fray within a year. I added a silicone stress relief that covered the entire cable since I had a bag of them, maybe it'll last two years.

none are working with korean LTE S6
