Unable to mount System - Xperia Z3 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All!
First of all I just want to get before any haters and say yes I'm an ass who should have read more about rooting and flashing but here I am..
I wanted to update my custom rom and to start fresh I decided to try to flash Format Data And wipe all on my phone.
Now the trouble i'm having is: no matter which version of twrp I use or how many times I flash my device with fastboot the error always comes when trying to flash a Rom onto the phone with twrp.
I can flash with flashtool so my phone is working for now but I've tried several times to go back to twrp but with no luck.
In twrp I've tried changing file systems wiping everything again factory reset. But no matter what I do the error still comes back with unable to mount system.
Any suggestions?

I do not have experience with custom Roms, but I know that these only work on unlocked bootloaders (exept this was overcome in the meantime) Have you unlocked it? Note: if you do you loose DRM keys. So backup before.

I've unlocked my bootloader via sonys website so I guess my DRM keys is long gone,
I have been flashing roms on it before so shouldnt be a problem really.
I guess I'm stuck with installing ftf files for now, got to have it for work tomorrow.

i got this problem too, when i flash another stock 6.0.1 rom (for SO-02G) on a Z3C (SO-02G) had installed 6.0.1 stock rom (D5833) using TWRP 3.0.2-0.
Then i need to flash back to stock 4.4.4 rom, and install new rom using TWRP 2.x.x, all work well.
So i guess u should flash back KK version before flash your custom rom. Goodluck

[Q] easy to install recovery and backup stock rom?

hey guys,
I'm looking to pick up this device hopefully tomorrow,
I plan on using it for 4-6 months only
I want to install a clean rom, something along the lines of cyanogenmod but I need to preserve the stock rom as when I return this device to IT they require that it be the same stock rom..
would it be relatively easy to install a recovery on this and backup the stock rom before I wipe it and install an aftermarket rom?
from the limited research I've done, looks like I need to have a specific kernel installed before I can install a root and recovery
I don't mind doing further research but I figured I might as someone that has been through this already...
thanks!
You need to root your device with a root tool (kingo root, vroot or anything like that), than backup your ta-partition (important for warranty) and after that you can unlock your bootloader for installing custom kernels and firmwares with Faltboot.
Just be sure to play your ta back and relock the phone before you give it back.
Gesendet von meinem C6903 mit Tapatalk
I should add that the IT dept won't take an indepth look at the device to see if it was flashed with a different rom
all they care about is the way the phone loads and if it's stock, they will just package it and return it to the carrier/auctions
therefore, I'm mainly concerned with the custom images that show up when installing aftermarket roms..
As long as your ta-partition is in tact you can use Sony updated service to restore to stock

To install Cyanogenmod you have to Unlock Bootlader because that Rom have Custom Kernel. Before Unlock it you have to Root your Device and Backup TA and DRM keys, if you do not do that you will never be able to Relock your Bootlader. You don't have to Backup your Stock Rom, just flash, with Flashtool v.0.9.13, one of this HERE, they are all Stock and use the one for you Model. Remember to do not relock your Bootlader on Custom Roms with Custom Kernels, you will brick your phone. First flash Stock FTF then Relock Bootlader.
To root your phone with Locked Bootlader you have to follow carefully this NUT Method, HERE
or you can use this method with Custom Rom for Locked Bootlader too, Step by Step Guide Page 2, Post #16 HERE
Good Luck.
thanks for the help guys,
turns out they were out of stock of the z1, my next option the lg g2 was also out of stock
alas, stuck with a note 3 now :/

[Q] Official Update 4.3 with ck/ub/root/cwm-twrp dual-boot

Hello community,
this is my first post here so i hope, i do it right
Please excuse my english, it is not perfect.
I have a xperia z with Android 4.2.2 (10.3.A.0.423) . The bootloader is unlocked, cwm/twrp dualboot is installed, also the doomlord customkernel v19 is in use, root-access is available.
Is it possible to update to official stock firmware 4.3 (10.4.1.B.0.101) using the PC-Companion without bricking my phone? Root-Access and cwm and so on would be lost as i assume. This would be ok for me.
I really would like to do it that way. I think, as an alternative, i could flash the 4.3 stock rom using cwm? Going this way, will my data and all settings be lost?
Updating via OTA is not a good idea i think.
Thanks for advise
Greetings
ShellingFord
Well, you cannot update via PC companion, Sony Update Service or OTA, as your bootloader is unlocked.
So, that leaves updating via Flashtool or flashing a prerooted rom from the development section.
The cleanest way would be via Flashtool, then simply flash a custom kernel again and root.
Sent from my C6603 using Tapatalk
And if im going to flash the stock-kernel which belongs my current firmware and then relock the bootloader?
If the bootloader is relocked, i can't flash a kernel or something else anymore right?
EDIT: If I decide to flash a rom will my data be lost or is it like im doing an normal update?
Is it possible to go back to stock with everything?
So much questions Sorry, I don't know that much, please help
Can anyone help?
Yes, if you relock the bootloader, you should be able to update via the normal methods (at least via PC companion, unsure about OTA). A locked bootloader means you cannot use custom kernels.
If you flash with Flashtool, you can choose not to wipe your data.

I assume, it would be the best to flash the original kernel before i lock the bootloader?
After relocking the bootloader and installing the update via PC-Companion, will the kernel be the "original" kernel and will cwm/twrp be still there or not?
Yes, flash a stock kernel before locking the bootloader. If you don't, you will soft brick your phone.
After updating, you will have a stock kernel and your custom recovery will be gone as well as root.

So everything worked fine. I relocked the bootloader via flashtool and installed the firmware using PC-Companion. My Xperia Z is now totally "stocked"
Thank you very much for your help

[Q] Tried to flash ROM, now stuck on Sony logo

Hi all.
Have run into a bit of trouble.
Tried to flash PAC Man rom (Unlocked bootloader, running rooted stock 4.4.2).
I did as instructions stated, went to flash ZIPS (including pac_honami-nightly-20140330.zip) from external SD card using TWRP, after wiping everything (except my external SD card).
Received an Error message stating 'Failed', in red. Something about system.
I did a reboot, now stuck on Sony logo and cannot access CWM or TWRP.
Would really appreciate any help. Arrrgh!
Thanks kindly.

EDIT: I assume I can flash another firmware using flashtool. Can I just re-flash NUT's rooted .681 firmware?

Here I am showing my ignorance. I followed the instructions here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2478003).
I assume the nightly .Zip I (tried) to flash was the kernel...(pac_honami-nightly-20140330.zip)?
The kernel should already be in the .zip so i don't think its a problem with the kernel. Just to make sure, check if there's a boot.img in the .zip file and are you on a c6902?

Thanks Ahki. There's a boot.img in the zip file and I am on a C6903.
Have managed to flash .534 ftf, now I need to get back my IMEI (I did backup TA previously).
Thanks for your help. Wish me luck!
EDIT: any tutorials on how to restore TA? I can't find anything. Head is swirling. :-|

If it's not flashed the kernel then it will be so would install it using fastboot to be sure.

Hi guys. Sorry for the likely inane questions.
Is there anyway to get my IMEI back without reverting to .534 root, then getting to .290 root? I cannot download the .534 NUT firmware in time (it says it will be 3 weeks to download the torrent and I really can't wait that long...)
Can I just install a pre-rooted .290 firmware, given that my bootloader is unlocked?

If I remember correctly, I think you have to downgrade to .534 to get IMEI back or to the previous version before you flashed the pac rom. Download the stocks ftf from here instead of nuts

I did flash (after PAC's went awry) to .534, stock. That was when the IMEI was lost.
I did read somewhere that a locally branded firmware might get back IMEI.. Giving a .237 Netherlands firmware a try....
I hope I haven't bricked this phone...
EDIT: worked. IMEI back after flashing local firmware.
Man that was stressful!
Thank you for help guys. Really appreciated.

CM 11 BL- Help

Hello guys, im new to all this stuff and i dont really know what i have to do first in order to get CM 11 installed on my Bootloader locked phone.
Its so confusing, i dont know if i have to root my device first, or install a recovery or unlock my bootloader first so im able to root it etc.
Can anyone help me what to do first? im on the 4.3 Update
abload.de/img/screenshot_2014-05-02weo0t.png
the reason why i want to have CM 11 is because ive read that this rom is way faster than the 4.3 stock, also it has better ram management (?) and doenst lag as much as the stock one.
Also why i want to have the BL version is because i dont really want to void my warranty.
I hope you guys can help me out with a nice step by step guide for someone who thinks all those different steps are getting confusing oh and im sorry for my english ^^ im from germany

Sounds legit, in order to root my phone, i have to downgrade to the very first firmware and then use the doomlord method right?
after that i have to install the recovery, after that, do i have to flash a pre rooted 4.3 stock firmware or can i go straight from the very first rooted stock FW to the 4.4.2 rom?

you will need to downgrade,root it,flash recovery,flash pre-rooted 4.3 rom,then 4.4 Rom...
make a backup of 4.3 rom using recovery in case you want to revert.
Yes, downgrade, root, install cwm, install CM10.2 for LB, reboot recovery again and install cm 11 for lb

[Q] Downgrade from 5.0.2 to 4.4 via twrp ?

I was just wondering if i can go back from stock ota updated 5.0.2 to 4.4 kitkat with my twrp backup without problems ?
You can downgrade to 4.4.4 without issues. But I never tested such thing using TWRP backup, but, as far as I know, KitKat bootloader is different of Lollipop, so you may brick some files in your Titan. If you really want to downgrade, do it properly, by downloading DSDALL firmware and then, using fastboot to order the commands. If you want to automate downgrade process, you can use my tool that you can take a look here. You still need to download the stock ROM apart, tough. xD
Ok thank you very much. Guess I'll have to use titanium backup and fastboot then. Will definitely check your tool

No you can easily downgrade using twrp.. Just wipe system cache data and dalvik cache and restore the system, data and boot of your kk backup.. You should be good to go
Flashing the firmware will surely brick your device

You cant downgrade your bootloader, and yes you cant use custom 5.1 roms with kk bootloader But anyways, your bootloader is already upgraded, so it doesnt matter. And be careful about one thing, don't directly flash a STOCK kk rom on a lollipop 5.1 rom. Always downgrade to a stock based rom, and then do it.. CM11 based roms can be flashed directly (with wipes of course)

Thanks. Sorry because i was a bit unclear, the thing is i didn't update to lollipop yet and wanted to do it via ota. So I'm still on stock 4.4. But i saw your RaR rom and i think i will just flash that. I'm really sorry to ask again and waste your time but will i be able to flash other non-stock based lollipop roms then ? (just for fun of course because i think i will be using RaR as my daily )

I highly recommend you do the ota update before flashing any ROMs, because it will update your bootloader, and avoid issues After you get your BL updated, you can freely flash any ROM of your choice, just make sure you do a clean flash
And no you are not wasting my time
