What is your favorite substratum theme? - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm currently using inversion but it doesn't theme everything such as Google Messenger. So I'm looking for other themes that can possibly take it's place. TIA!

Picking a favorite theme for me is impossible, I like a lot of different ones for different reasons and just like the variety of changing them from time to time to not get sick of any one. However, the first link (below) is one I've been using a lot lately as well as its Black version as well, the second is newer and quickly becoming a new fave. There's a lot to choose from and different options to change the display within a lot of themes as well; it just comes down to personal taste. Here's a few I use most frequently:

I've run MultiUI and N Navbar for quite some time but eventually I got bored and got back to the stock theme. I still miss the old Layers Manager themes though.

[WIP] Carbon Sense for Legend2G1 v1.1.1 (Metamorph)

here is a metamorph theme i have been working on as a side project from the themes i have done with cache. this is the first time i have posted a theme on xda but not my first theme . the theme isnt compatible with the latest metamorph so only use it if you are using metamorph 1.9.4.
its is a carbon fibre based theme as i wanted to do something a bit different, unfortunately my computer has recently broke so i cant carry on with themeing until i get a new one (which i currently cant afford). so i decided to share what i have done so far. if enough people like it i will carry on developing it till i think it is complete when i get my pc sorted. if not i will just use it for personal use. so here it is...

Dope!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Looks awesome
I would call this awesome if it didn't have the labels on the bottom. The three symbols would look a ton better.

[CM7 THEME][MOD]Elegant Steel facelift

Hi all!
First of all i want to say i'm new to CM7 and themeing, but i have some experience from other places, not much though. I browsed trough themes, and kinda fell for ElegantSteel by kevin2516. After i installed it, i found it to be, well, not as streamlined as i hoped, so i've decided to give it a facelift. I seeked help in that thread without much response, so i'm going solo (for now), but will not publish before i get a go from the original maker. ATM, i'm working on remaking ALL the statusbar icons and other graphics, using Tokens icon template, slightly modified, but the todo list is long, lol. I will NOT be making custom icons for apps, and the reason is simple; there are way to many, and it doesn't look good when many icons follow a style, but some that aren't supported will stand out.
But, as i mentioned, i'm pretty new to this, and not aware of all capabilities i've got. I wan't this theme to be as complete as possible, so that users(me) won't have to fiddle around with the system files, but instead leave CM7 as stock and just apply this theme. So here are some questions i've got atm:
1. Can i include a status_bar.xml in the theme to override the stock one? This is for changing the colors of the fonts, center the clock etc.
2. Can i include my own custom DriodSans.ttf in the theme to override the stock ones? Simpler than pushing or using 3rd party app to replace, and won't be messy when changing to other themes.
3. Is there any software/scripts to make this job easier and/or organized? I look at files like $theme$/res/xml/android.xml for instance, quite a lot to keep track on (just to mention one file, lol).
More questions will come, but let's not take to many steps at the time All help will be very much appreciated.
I haven't bothered to check my xda threads in a while, still in holiday mode and focusing on other stuff.
Just do whatever you want lol
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda premium
can you do center clock mod and put it in with the theme chooser apk? i haven't seen this done yet and i have just been editing my own systemUI.apk each time i update.
I don't know, that's why i'm asking. I most certainly hope so, i imagine i can include it like this: $theme$/res/layout/status_bar.xml (as i recall). But that might also be a sensitive .xml to put in a theme...

Schism ROM (Discussion)

*remove links*
Seems very interesting. I'm gonna flash it here momentarily.
For the record, I'm in no way affiliated with the development or support for this ROM. I just happened to be told about it.
Update: It's AOSP based.
The white theming is nice for a change

Yeah the white theme is absolutely gorgeous. The downfall to it at this point is that some of the text is really difficult to read. It's an alpha and this is their first public release, so it will probably be fixed down the road. I also noticed that it will not take any custom DPIs either through its native customization options or via ROM Toolbox Pro. The ROM definitely has promise though, especially for an alpha. I wonder why the white theming isn't more widely used.
Would be nice if they posted here and complied with the regulations for roms. Wouldn't want some nasty hidden code in an unknown rom. Looks great though, loving the white ui.

I was going to download it until I read your post about it not being able to use custom DPI. That's a deal breaker for me.
I've bookmarked their site though, so will keep checking as it does look very promising.
For a ROM to be discussed here, the developers need to post a thread and provide support.

[THEME]Full Theme Red/Blue/BrownGold Completely revamped 08/18/2015

This will work on any rom except AOSP and CM12. I'm posting this now so you can get rid of that stock UI, I'm doing about 3 more apk's then a much more formal posting will be put up.
I also themed the HTC 9 camera that is available, the M9 has many more features, and takes much better pics than the Google camera. A seperate link will be posted below. I did not create the Zip,and i take no credit for it's creation, I just themed it. I don't want donations, but if you can HIT THE THANKS BUTTON I would really appreciate it.
If you allow app updates for any of the themed apk's it will untheme that apk, so uninstall updates for that particular app and the theme will return, i've done lot's of app updates, and hardly ever do I notice a difference in the app.
I completely revamped this on July 26. Colors are better blended, and took out some of the Gold, and removed some red. Hope you try it out, you will be impressed Also, make sure that your main Google app is updated or it will FC after flash

More APK's and a more formal post to come in a couple days. Attention to detail was a constant in making this, and it looks great on the phone. Hope you enjoy.

What does me not liking your theme have to do with my theme making ability (or lack thereof)? Next you'll tell me that I can't say "Nickelback sucks" because I can't play guitar.
You asked for thoughts... so I shared mine. If you're going to create things and ask for feedback, you shouldn't get your feelings hurt so easily.

I must agree with Ryjabo here. This is just constructive criticism coming from another graphical designer, but the color scheme is horrendous.
I do see the work you put in and everything you have themed and you have amazing potential to create amazing themes, just work on the color scheme to make it something elegant. This is an elegant device, the theming should represent and complement that designing style.
Look at other themes posted both on here and the Play Store to get some coloring ideas. Don't copy those themes, just use them as a base for your own creation.

ummm....
protip 1: avoid mixing blue and red [emoji14]
and avoid mustard color altogether
Thanks for sharing though, you have potential as a themer and with enough practice (and less contrasts in your color schemes) you could end up making some nice looking work [emoji106]
Musicman may not be a professional designer, but as graphic artists.... We should lend suggestions or constructive criticism to help him as he makes his way into the material based GPE rather then just calling it ugly. As @DarK_DemoN stated he has potential he knows how to use VTS and work his way through the xml, its just getting the color scheme down.

Well
Everything is so subjective when trying to determine what colors to use, what 5 people hate, 5 more people may really like so in a way picking out the proper colors is tough. If people took the time to flash it they may like it, a few screenshots can't paint the whole picture.
I don't mind at all constructive criticism, but to bark out "it's ugly" I must admit set me off a bit. LP was very hard to theme, and a great deal of time was put into that and I realize not everyone is going to like it.
Thank you for the input

Theme Store vs Substratum for customization

Which one do you guys recomend for theming. I have been running substratum with Nova.
I like the theme store a lot. I'm running a nice dark theme with some purple in it. I've heard of substratum, but never actually used it.
I haven't used Nova on this, so far. I never thought I'd utter these words, but I'm liking touchwiz on the Note 8!

however... now TouchWiz has the option to swipe down to pull the notification bar down and Substratum is here...
im using a mixture of Substratum / Overlays from XDA / Theme from Samsung theme store with TouchWiz
Also because of these new updates this is my first ever device i have not rooted (YET)
That's pretty big for me!

I prefer substratum and another launcher. Some of the theme store themes look pretty good but the themers are only allowed theme the samsung apps and you end up with the cohesiveness of your theme looking bad.

this was my issue when i used Nova, annoying seeing everything themed and then opening the edge panel and all the icons being totally different.
however the only thing that kept me off touchwiz was the notification bar not being able to be pulled down from anywhere, but now that's 'fixed' ive been using the theme store and overlays... only substratum theme im using is to get the clock centered. still lots more choice with Nova/other launchers but there are some hidden gems in the theme store, or you could even grab some xda themes if you wanna go through the hassle of getting them to stick.
also i dont think substratum has enough choice for Samsung users yet, maybe i am too used to substratum for stock android rom. so much customisation where as for us at the moment barely any in comparison, even less if you are not willing to pay for every theme.

I always forget about the edge panel lol. I'm using Nova now but think I'm going to switch to the theme store for a bit. There aren't a lot of choices at all for substratum yet. I was trying to find a way to change the nav bar but none of the over lays work that I have found.

There's an aosp one in the overlays thread. You could also edit the apk and replace the aosp icons with your own to make your own nav bar using Apkeditor from the playstore

I have 2 x Themes from theme store by Lucas Kendi.
"Blac UI" is a free theme.
His theme has i think the Pixel navbars.
If you install theme it also changes the Samsung
navbar.Also ringtones, notification sound. Etc
So ringtones etc, you have to change back to you preferred ones
His other theme (i have) Oxy black also changes the navbar.
Overall i use a mixture of Nova Prime /Samsung Themes and Klwp themes.
I found that as stated by others Substratum
themes are very limited and not worth installing on Note 8.
As i already have most paid Substratum Samsung Themes
i use them mostly on my spare Note 5.

Thanks!
Looked promising but it creates a theme at the end rather than an installable overlay like substratum. It's a nice tool to make a theme though
(Only problem is I then loose my Samsung theme icons etc) also have to go through the whole getting a 'Free trial' theme to stick
I'm happy with my setup at the moment anyway :good:
The only other issue I had with that app was not enough options to change I could only change a few bits, was hoping to fully black out apps but could only do headers and status bar etc
