is it possible to root/remove ads on version 7.4.2 yet? - BLU R1 HD Questions & Answers

Hiya, my brother just gave me this phone and I wanted to root it and all that good stuff, but I realized he did the ota before he gave it to me. Can I get around this yet?

Looks like 217 OTA was released today?

So I got the 217 OTA release today on my D4. Anyone else? Seems good so far.

It is not available on mine yet.
I got the email, but never got the update. My phone died around lunch and I didn't have a charger until after 5p. I'm wondering if I missed a window.

Yeah, I never asked to be on a soak test or anything... so I dunno if I was just randomly chosen or if it was released today... I suppose it doesn't really matter. Either way, it's pretty nice I guess A bit late given the fact that JB is the 'new hotness' now

JB doesn't really mean anything. it's an incremental update and I'd be willing to bet some devs whip together a ROM with it included. There's still a chance we'll get it officially for our phone. A SLIGHT chance, but because its only an incremental update, with no new real requirements, it's a decent possibility.
Moto originally committed to 18 months of updates. We basically have until late next year to get it. By then, Klondike will be out and everyone will hate.
I got the update for mine but didnt do it. Mainly because I am rooted and wanted to see if I can first. Only thing I did was root so I can use wifi teather. I left everything else alone. I used to put diff roms in my original droid and got sick of setting it up again.
Were you rooted when you did the update? If so did was there any issues?

I'm not the OP, but I was rooted using the MotoFail exploit and the update applied without issue. I did have to re-acquire root with Razr's Edge, however, but that was painless.

I am rooted... I used OTA Rootkeeper to backup and restore root afterwards. I made sure to update the su binary as well from the superuser application as I had read some horror stories about people who lost root and couldn't get it back due to outdated superuser.apk and/or su binaries.
Additionally, my first attempt to install failed... I believe it was because I had added lines to loadpreinstalls.sh and mount_ext3.sh in /system/bin to ensure that the 'adb always root' local.prop file and the su binary was copied back into /data/ and /system/bin respectively every time I booted in case I lost root somehow. I had to remove the extra lines and then start over.

Historically, how long before the update is widespread? My phone doesn't see it yet.
Folks, just an FYI.
The full XML.zip of fastboot images for this build has already been released in the development section by Skrillaz_CZ.
This not only means that you dont have to wait for the update at all, but also that we have the best safeguard against any mishaps from modding and flashing possible. You can recover your phone to the current release build no matter what happens using RSD Lite or the fastboot binary and ADB.
Incredibly quick work by Skrillax_CZ to pull this off their server right away like this!

Was this a previously owned device? An eBay or other like new used device?

5.5.886 to OTA ICS

Last November I rooted and installed cheesecake. I don't remember what I used since that was a year ago but the info was from this site. It was done through recovery. Then when the OTA update came out in December I think it was I was never able to install it, it would fail half way through. At that time I did a lot of searching for a solution but never found one that worked. Now that ICS is rolling out I'm searching again, except now links for files are all dead and since nearly a year has passed maybe there's a better solution. When I check for OTA updates it gives me 5.5.893 and it fails half way through. Anyone have any ideas on how I can get this to ICS or at least back on track for OTA updates? It's rooted and has cheesecake and bootstrap.

Follow the directions in this post. Install 905 then 246. This will put you back on the OTA path.

Thanks. After I made my post I kept on searching and came across http://www.droidforums.net/forum/dr...install-246-ics-fxz-updated-10-24-2012-a.html which ended up working for me. It used RSDLite to install 246.
I'm just curious if you had bootstrap or safestrap installed? OTAs won't install if those, or any other mods, are on your phone. You also can't have any of the bloat removed or frozen.

SM-G900A, still no way to root it?

Really need to root G900A with Android 5.0 but no app or person I've found is able to do that. I saw a few posts here back to August and earlier where no solution was found at that time. Is there any solution by now? Or soon?
Still no root if you have lollipop. This phone is almost 2 years old so the likelihood of root is low. That doesn't mean someone is not trying though.

C6616 (Canada) 5.1.1 Root Possible?

I bought this phone today, and it was on 4.1 or something - some rom. I came back to XDA the wonderful fairy land to make my dreams come true.
Alas, and as always (6th phone in a row) I am lost. I rooted successfully the 4.1 (I forget what it *actually* was) and that was fine. It worked. I used a DooMLoRD special secret package that he made specifically for us Canadians, I don't know how I found it either as it was buried deep in a different thread. As far as I know the 'perf'(..?) exploit has been patched by Sony.
Seeing how I haven't been around here in about 10 to 16 months, I forgot how everything works. I upgraded my device to the official 5.1.1 expecting to retain my root, and then intended on getting my hands a little dirty in the coming weeks (or at least get a Kernel that seeks to improve battery life)
my bootloader is still locked. I will note, however, that Kingroot, the APK succesfully got me rooted. But that app is weird, and I don't know if I trust it... I also don't know what would happen if I tried to flash a new kernel.
ANYWAY THANKS FOR READING THIS
Search tool is a gift, I have been and will continue to be searching probably way too intensely for a fix or some help.
Cheers to all
k.

rooted LS991ZV6 and OTA

was wondering, if im rooted on v6 (5.1) and looking to ota to marshmallow (6.0) can i ota without error? since sprint came out with ZLTE its in the update from what i understand. friend got replacement yesterday of same phone. seems to be quicker and better signal. or anyone recommend a 6.0 rom?
i do plan on doing the wifi teather before updating. is that trick still working?
second, if not worth it how easy to downgrade again? last time i rooted it was very different than just using odin or a single app. has the rooting method changed at all? i was able to upgrade and then downgrade again, but was very uncomfortable doing it, and i have flashed a few phones in my day.
thanX in advance.

Unless something has changed u cannot update no root available after zv6. And if u get to zvb i believe u cannot downgrade. Ive hd mine on zv6 since day on and will not upgrade. Roots the only thing keeping me from getting rid of this thing
Ive seen a few posts about downgrading from marsh back to lolipop. Unless i was reading it wrong.
But having no root isnt my cup of tea either. Seeing alot about root and the H815.
