How do i set the button on asus watch 3 - Asus ZenWatch 3

How can I set the top button on the watch. I read the manual and it mentioned ....go to the button app? Me be I'm blond but I can't find if? Is there somebody who can help me ?

On the watch, scroll through the app list and search for "Button setting" app. You can only set the top button, bottom one is always eco mode.

Thanks I found it
Thanks for the help. I was in the app list before , couple of times bud never the button settings showd up. Now it did. Thanks

Button Settings app
I must have unpaired and re-paired my zenwatch 3 a dozen times already
and downloaded the latest zenwatch manager and the android wear app
from the play store several times but I never did see the "button settings"
app in my app drawer's list of apps in the watch.
Other than this button settings app issue my zenwatch 3 works perfectly.
Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks,

I seen no Button Settings app in my App Drawer until I actually pressed a button.
Got a dialog saying change the Top Button with the Button Settings app.
Now I see the Button Settings App in the app drawer.

The PDF user guide for zenwatch 3 is almost useless but
I found the button settings app the same way as you did.

And whoever said that only the top button is programmable
did not know what he was talking about and most likely does
not even own a zenwatch 3.

I wouldn't be too harsh on the person saying that bottom button wasn't programmable. Initially the bottom button was not programmable. But a subsequent update to the phone Zenwatch app permitted programming to the bottom button.

Zen watch 3
Buttons is not in my apps ,that echo setting is!! Also I noticed that Android wear is not working great on zen 3 ?,I noticed that when you go to silence phone through that app it doesn't work ,only way I can silence phone is put it on mute!! But then il probably won't get sound from watch ,iv noticed battery only lasting 4 to 5 hrs then when I go to charge it ? Its saying battery 100% fo why draining so fast also gets very hot hope someone can help Thanks

Looks like with AW 2 you set function of top and bottom buttons Under Personalisation - Customise hardware buttons

I came to the ZenWatch 3 after using the Pebble Time Round. That watch has 4 programmable buttons than each can be programmed to starts apps with press and long press.
Is there any way (perhaps an app or mod) of letting us set additional apps to be started when long pressing the top or bottom buttons.
If not, anyone up for creating such an app?

There is no such feature of long pressing top or bottom buttons
to open apps and there are no mods or addons which can do it.
Sorry about that.
Good luck,

Thanks for the info. It would be a great idea if this could be implemented. Would this have to be done by ASUS or Google Wear team? Could a mod be written to do this? It would be a great feature and make those buttons twice as useful. Surely a no-brainer - why has nobody asked for this before?
There are apps that can remap the main central button, after all.

Use of buttons and Canvas

Not entirely sure what I'm doing here but here's what I'd like to do. I use a Canvas watchface and I'd like to be able to hit the up button and see a weather center app or hit the down button and see some other app. Can I do that with Canvas/Pebble? How would I set that up?

1. Open the Glance phone app.
2. Click on Customize Watch.
3. Scroll to the bottom to the Button Mapping section.
4. There are four button press mapping options there. Set them to whatever app you want that has Glance support.
You can also set a single custom app launch if you have the app's UUID.

I've got a screen set up but I can't get the weather to work. Always says no connection. Weather is one thing I want accuracy in.
You can accomplish what your are looking for with AutoPebble and Tasker. AutoPebble allows Tasker to react to button presses on your Pebble watch. Tasker can then launch a different Pebble app (AutoPebble plugin action) or load a different Canvas watch face. I use this to cycle between 2 different Canvas watch faces with the bottom button and to load different apps with the top button (freeCaddie, Roku remote, or NavMe depending on other variables set in Tasker). I also use the middle button to launch PebbleTasker with a menu tree to get to several other Tasker tasks.

I am trying to do something similiar. I have figured out how to intercept button clicks from tasker. However, each button press while in canvas leads to a strong vibration. Do you know how the vibration can be changed? Also, how do I prevent canvas from not changing the watch face if I press the up/down buttons? Currently pressing the up button skips track in my mobile and changes watchface in canvas.
Thanks
Disable every watchface in the Canvas app except the one you are using.

This is just to prevent canvas from changing watchfaces, yeah? It still doesnt remove the vibration issue. I dont want the watch to vibrate each time i change the song...
Yes, this just prevents the watchface swap. As far as I know, there is no way you can disable the vibration.
I am trying to figure out TAsker/Pebble Tasker to be able to do the same thing. Tasker is way hard to use!!

[Q] Revert "recently used" button to "back"?

My apologies if this has already been addressed - searched but turned up nothing useful.
Call me old fashion - or just set in my ways - but I cannot get past this lack of a physical/capacitive menu button. I'm coming from the Note 2, where I'd used NOVA to set the long-hold Home key to be the recently used app list. I almost NEVER used it - yet I use the menu button in nearly every app. I cannot see how the recently used app has a higher draw than the menu, but I digress...
Has anyone figured out how to re-map the buttons?

I have an s5 and it took me a while to get used to this also. In most apps if you long hold the recents button it will bring up the app settings or options menu. I also just placed the phone settings icon in the drawer on the home screen for easy access to phone settings menu.

Menu button (do you miss it)

Just found out a little tip which many of you might already know. If you are missing the menu button, especially for outdated apps like the xda app, you can still access it. The note 4 replaced the menu button with recent apps button, but if you long press the recent apps button you will get to the menu function.
That is all. Have a good day.

Thanks for that. I was using a friends S5 last night and that was driving me mad. My note 4 is at home waiting for me to open the package
If they completely removed it, then yes but holding task switcher for a couple of more seconds then it doesn't bother me. What bothers me is that I have to hold the back button every time to access Multi window bar as app switcher only has opened apps.

Its not about missing it just because you prefer to press the physical button. There are many apps which don't have the soft menu button. For example, go to Google Now and try to change the settings, but don't long press. Good luck with that.

There is. There is no way Google didn't implement soft menu button when they themselves are pushing on screen nav bar and soft menu buttons. Open Google now and it's bottom right corner. Might need to scroll all the way down. That might be the only annoying thing about it but it's there and very easy to access.

Found the Menu Button

Several release ago Samsung did away with a dedicated menu button. Many of the application developers enhanced their apps to have the 3 dots in the upper right hand corner to allow touch access to the menu button.. In the S6 those apps with out a menu button had a floating circle with the 3 dots. Now with the note 5 I could not find a button combination or the floating circle for apps like moon reader. Previously you would press and hold the multitasking button. NOW you need to press and hold the back button. Why do they need to change this so often and not communicate it? Oh well but there is your answer
Thank you so much... I've been searching for the answer to this question since I got mine on the 18th!!!

Oh man ... thank God you found it ... was missing it in my s6 edge ... got my note5 today and its back bcz of you ...
I have held the back button on my note 5 and nothing comes up.
Ya, I suffered with this one for a while, coming from the Note 3. Then I saw someone on a video use the back button hold.
Take this site for example, subscribing used to be a breeze on my other device but long press back, the page will be back instead. Same goes to other app, the back and menu combination really a bad choice by samsung.

Menu button on note 5
I have long pressed the back button on my note 5 but it doesn't come up. I need it for game apps I play. Please help. Thanks.
@Alliswhat44 Its not a big deal with 'All in One Gestures' app in the store. You can combine the features of buttons(Home, Back, Recents, Volume up and down) as you wish. Even the Back button can be Recents..

I think your device is not rooted, is it? You can manage Recents button as Menu(If rooted I think) with selecting 'Single Tap or Long press'. The app is perfectly usefull and working.
BTW there is an app name is 'GMD Gesture Control' Thats spectacular as pro.
some apps don't support it...would just quit the app
Correct. If the app uses an on screen menu button anyway (disregarding the android prop setting), then the long key press menu button doesn't work. Is really an app issue at that point.

Has no one made a tweak to change recent back to the menu button like they did with the note 4?

Lol glad to know you like it too.

how do you access "menu" in apps now?

on my note 7 you'd long press recent apps, and it would bring up menu, how do you access the menu button now? I came across an app today that didn't have an onscreen software menu button and couldn't figure out where Samsung buried the menu button this time.
thanks!
I only have one app that I use that is like that, on my Note 5 long pressing the back button brought up the menu. I use the same version app on my Note 8 but on the Note 8 to the right of the back button 3 dots appear to bring up the menu. I tried the long pressing the back button anyway but it doesn't do anything. That's the only app that I use where I have ever seen the 3 dots appear to the right of the back button, so far anyway.
really so it just appeared for you in that app on its own?
interesting, it isn't in my app. surely there's a way to toggle menu tho right? Samsung didn't completely remove it did they?
Yeah, I didn't do anything, it just appears on it own. Screenshot attached showing the 3 dots & the menu that it brings up.
There is another way but it's kind of annoying. Go to settings>accessibility>dexterity & interaction, then enable assistant menu. It'll put a round button on the screen, opening that & holding down the back button will bring up the hidden menu. That's the annoying part but at least you can move the button around to anywhere on the screen.
That's the weird part, long pressing the back button in that assistant menu will bring up the hidden menu just like it did for my Note 5 but long pressing the actual back button on my Note 8 doesn't do anything.
WOW, that assistant menu trick actually worked... dude that's genius, thanks! I only needed the menu for a second to adjust an important setting, can't thank you enough!

No problem. Glad it worked out for you! That's actually how I had to do it on my Note 5. There was some kind of glitch, even though the back button brought up the menu, as soon as I released the back button the menu would disappear sometimes. Using the assistant menu was the only other way I could do it.
