How far away is OOS 4 beta for 3T ? - OnePlus 3T Questions & Answers

OOS 4 beta was leaked more than a week ago. It seems pretty stable. Also, Hydrogen OS 4 just got released. Can we conclude something with this?

Hi,
Maybe we can conclude that's time to be patient...
It will be released when it will be...
Happy new year.

Sorry if you don't like it. I'm not a kind of clairvoyant. Just a bit amused to see some kind of questions.
I prefer waiting something finished instead of a crappy one.

There will not be a Nougat beta for the 3T. The first beta will be post Nougat,

@sriharshasv Carl Pei said "We'll be back in business next week. Demand in India beat our expectations by far." which is hinting that it will come sometime next year. But being with OnePlus from the One I can tell you good luck on getting it official before they sign off on it which can sometimes be months after the next version has signed off (saw it with 5.0, 5.1.1 and 6.0).

OpenBeta releases for oneplus 3/3t paused for a month

https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/...s-3-and-3t-will-be-paused-for-a-month.492623/
Hi everyone,
With Lunar New Year drawing close, we'd like to wish you all a great year ahead. In light of this festive season, we will be pausing the Open Beta releases for OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T for a month. We’re looking forward to picking back up where we left off - working closely with the community to keep trying new things and develop the best OS around - after this break. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Cheers and Never Settle.

There won't be any updates at all on 4.0.2 or betas. The staff are going on holiday and they're gonna be celebrating Chinese new year or whatever that is. So one month no updates, which is fine

Not sure it'll be an entire month, they're just giving a heads up that the traditional every 15 day routine for the beta won't be followed. They may release a bug fix or two though.

I'm now on H20S, it's pretty stable and has some cool features like inCall sound recorder.. Still OOS doesnt have it, right ?
If there'll be an update for oos4.0.2, I'll be waiting for it. If not, I'll install 4.0.2

How long should I expect updates?

If I buy the phone, how long should I expect the phone to get OTA updates?

Probably through 2018. Beyond that, you'd need a custom ROM.
I have the Nexus 5 which I bought with v4 and now I am on v6 and thats it. So I can assume the OP3t will receive Android O and not beyond that?
When next Oneplus phone gets released, the 3 and 3t will be pretty much left in the shadow just the like the 2 is now, getting N in a couple of months and then it's the end of the road.

OenPlus CEO confirmed Android O

Moderator information,
Content removed.
i guess we are lucky the OP3t exists. dont know if we would have got O without it
Can't wait for that beta update, phew.
This isn't news we should be celebrating. It should be expected, sad they have to double confirm!

yup confirming an update to a less than a year old and a 6 month old device lol
Great news. I'm looking forward.

Great news, but I will have replaced my OP3 with the OP5 or a Pixel XL long before they ever release Android O for the OP3... haha
As long as OP release 1 version of O, that is rock solid with good battery life I will be happy. From that point they just need to give us the security updates.
I know many of you will expect more, but I accept that we paid much less for our phones and OP are a small company who will probably put 90% of there resources on the OP5.

Ditto!
I'll be excited about the caf based Roms like vertex once kernel source drops. Maybe OnePlus will have EAS built into the kernel along with it too. Only time will tell
btw the thread title has a silly spelling mistake. instead of oneplus it's oenplus

They had promised updates for 2years and also replied to various comments on Facebook telling they will soon provide the update.
But this time their CEO has promised android O so I strongly feel we will get the update.
Nevertheless, keep calm and wait for android Oreo(hopefully) :fingers-crossed:
The question should be when they will release it...

I think OP2 was screed because if Snapdragon 810 which wasn't a stable enough for every phone of that year. Snapdragon 820 on the other end is a totally different beast !

A Hope. Unified builds for Oneplus 5 and 5t

As Oneplus has released kernel sources for Oneplus 5t as mentioned in this post by @Funk Wizard
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5t/development/oneplus-5t-kernel-sources-t3705825
Hope they keep Board Support Package(BSP), the proprietary libraries, Unified just like they did with Oneplus 3 and 3t.
As Oneplus 5 is not available anymore, Developers wont get Oneplus 5 and will obviously go and Develop for Oneplus 5t.
Thus we'll have to rely on Unified builds for Custom Roms on this just 4 months 26 days old device.
I hope Oneplus unifies it.
Edit 1. I think this post by @eng.stk in Oneplus-5t forum suggests possibility of unified development ?

What do you guys think?
A lot of awesome devs have already bought the oneplus 5 so I don't think we need to worry.
Op5 will get Oreo in 2018, op5t in December. This is exactly why I won't buy another HTC phone again after my Sensation. OnePlus is going that way with big steps.

HTC U11 already gettin' Oreo. In Taiwan. And not beta or gamma or delta.
The open beta for N for the OP3 launched on 30 Nov, 2016.
The open beta for N for the OP3T launched on 31 Dec, 2016.
Open beta builds were unified in early 2017.
Hopefully, the stable Oreo build slated for release in early 2018 will be a unified build for the 5 and 5T. **fingers crossed**

It doesn't matter now anymore. They already lost their fanbase and customers because of their sh***y update policy, they were neck to neck with Samsung, look where's HTC now.

My biggest worry is that they aren't porting project Treble. Leaked beta doesn't seem to have it.

You can safely assume it never will, coz it wasn't launched with oreo.

OnePlus officially stated in their AMA yesterday that the 5/5T builds will "eventually" be "synced" like they did with the 3/3T.

That was always on the cards.
Thats already one feature OnePlus 6 will be having making it different from Op5t.
Start counting.
OnePlus is smart enough to not launch Op5t with Oreo or they could have delayed its released by 1 month and Launch with treble support.

The Best Update Yet

OP5 got the OOS 5.0 leaked and I think it's the best update so far and have some bugs but we get the higher benchmark scores too ??
I have the OP 5 64 GB
What your thoughts on it ????

I agree, best update so far even though it's apparently only pre-beta. Not facing any issue yet except once in a while phone won't wake up with power button so press one more time and it works. It always works with fingerpint. Really not a deal breaker.
I'll just wait until Oreo officially arrives for the OP5.
