Touch screen lag? Is this a real concern, or a 'myth'? - Sony Xperia X Performance Questions & Answers

Hi All,
I have been giving some consideration to purchasing a Sony Xperia X Performance (or XZ) smartphone (on a plan through Telstra > Sony Xperia X Performance). As is normal in the 'Internet Age' I have read up quite a bit on this phone, and I was quite concerned when one review stated that the Xperia X phones have poor touch screen responsiveness.
I am wondering if anybody with one of these phones has noticed any lag, or lack of responsiveness with the touch screen?
Similarly does the camera lag, or is it quick to take shots as is advertised?
Any input here would be greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards,
Davo

The touch is sometimes having a life of its own.
The camera.. I guess it takes okay pictures but when my cats are moving their head it makes blurry pictures. But I guess that in sports mode and such it works okay.
All in all a good phone but I would go for the xz

my only, and i mean only slight disapointment at this device is the screen, it washes out when viewing from large angles, which is negligble most of the times, unless you're for somereason trying to watch what someone else is doing on your phone while he's far from you.
other than that it's absolutly perfect, water resistent, very fast and snappy, battery lasts a day and sometimes two, volume is descent and camera is great once you figure out how to take goodnight shots.
i don't find the 8GB internal to be too small, i have a lot of apps installed including a few big games, for multimedia i just have my 16GB sd card.
Never get lags

For me the main problem is not to be able to use the Sd card for application storage.
Otherwise I m very happy with it.
Big screen but not too big.
Fast fast fast...
The front camera is not so good but do you use it often? Me once in 2 months...
The usb cover can get tricky sometimes but after a few week it become easier.
But why don't you wait a little more and buy a Z1s....
Not good at all
Because of:
1.Very little to No developer support for our device
2.Volume is very low
3.Probably no KitKat for our wonderful device
4.Camera is not nice,in any condition its just too grainy and zooming on a picture is pointless as it gets very bad
5.Shortage of accessories
6.Sony's service is very poor
7.No warranty on water proof.....
Etc.
Other than this the experience is great
Not on device but on android and a nicely designed phone.

lol kraken, go for a reading trip around the forum, most of what you wrote here is already discussed a solved...
1. almost every xz rom works on ZR with a little tweaking, you have miui and CM also, kikat will have to get to ZR if it gets to Z it's practicly the same, mybe a month later.
the camera is defenetly one of the better ones, night shots require to use manual mode to get better resaults, someone did comparison with galaxy s4 in the pictures thread and when done right quiality is the same.
shortage of accessories is also wrong, you have original sony dock and cheaper excellet docks on ebay, plenty of covers and screen procetors...
and about water warrenty?? no waterproff phone has a waterproofing warrenty, non from sony or the samsung galaxy active devices...

I don't totally agree with you shteren
But if you know how to modify ROMs from Z or ZL to ZR
Please mod this one and upload it here cuz it's amazing
http:// http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2495576
And also tell me an ultra noob friendly way to mod Z roms for Zr
For future use....
+ Great size
+ Good battery life
+ Software (lightly skinned, no TouchWiz crap here)
+ Build quality
+ Fast and snappy with no lag
+ Sony media apps are nice
+ STAMINA mode
+ Can use with a dock
+ IP58 certified waterproof and dust proof
+ Excellent camera with proper camera button
- Notification light is too dim and colour can't be changed
- Lack of accessories (can't even get a proper leather case)
- Port covers likely to get damaged with constant open and close action
- Soft keys (prefer Samsung home button)
- Screen is washed out and looks rubbish compared to AMOLED but it's not as bad as the reviews

Z1 or QX100?

Hello Everybody,
I currently have a Z Ultra and an Arc S (need to carry two phones). I have been in a dilemma for a while trying to decide between Z1 and QX100. I know it might sound ridiculous, but it is what it is. Basically, I want to replace my Arc S (which has a wonderful camera) with a Z1. I have seen some excellent shots taken by Z1. If I get the z1, the camera has to be the significantly better than any other ANDROID phone. (and I'd be sacrificing LTE, since only unlocked HSPA version is available in the US, imported unbranded LTE versions won't fully work with my carrier, AT&T). If the camera is just a bit better than the competition, I'll just get the QX100 and call it a day.
What do you guys suggest?
Besides, if anyone happened to own US versions of both XZU (c6806 or c6802) and Z1 (c6902), could you please comment on the displays? I have an XZU (c6806) and its display is easily the best one I have ever seen. Hopefully, US version of Z1 comes with similar panel - just wanted to double check.
Thanks much in advance

Ironically I currently have all 3: Z1, Ultra and the QX100. The Z1's camera is a substantial upgrade over the ultra but not close to the QX100. The QX100 takes much better photos but there is a substantial trade-off in size and dealing with lag to connect. Really depends on your needs. I'd say the Z1 is among the best android cameras but I'm not sure it's significantly better than very best competitors.
The display on the Ultra is much better than the Z1. I'd say the Ultra is the best display I've seen in a mobile device, the Z1 is probably closer to an average quality in a modern mobile. It's not a great comparison for the Z1 if you have them side by side.
If you can find a C6906 from Canada you can get LTE on AT&T.
Thanks a lot, man! I had a slight hope that US version of Z1 might have won the 'display lottery' , since US was probably the last region to get Z1 :crying: I'm probably going to get one though - not sure yet. Viewing angle aside, does your z1 display look as good as XZU if you're looking at it directly?
Thanks!

No even directly it doesn't have the contrast range of the Ultra. It's very good but the Ultra really spoils you compared to almost anything else.
Got it - thanks! Sony's evil plan of forcing two devices down my throat seems to be working perfectly this time. Anyways, thanks much for your help.
I tried today in Las Vegas at the Sony store both QX. I was interested too. Conclusion? It is a lag fest. If you are lucky you can see smoothly on your screen the image otherwise you should wait many seconds to get your image back in sync with your screen. I don't know if there are firmware updates for the QX but currently IMHO is not gonna work. I can confirm that Z1 in high lights is a beast. Even compared to the camera phone Nokia 1020. If you care about low lights, this is not your phone.
The display isn't so worse than the ultra at least mine (UK LTE). The ultra is sightly better.

The display of Ultra is very nice, imagine HTC One in a 6" LCD and you're there, Z1 display is very nice too but not quite as good. Also there is no real comparison between QX100 and Z1. I mean you cant compare a dedicated shooter against a smartphone,
In saying that you cant use the QX100 without a smartphone and thats where things go pear shaped.
QX100 really takes magic shots that easily compare to any PAS or any other digital camera, however the interface between phone and lense sucks balls!

[Need advice] is Xperia T a good buy?

well i lost my xperia zl and need a new primary phone quite urgently...cant decide between xperia t and sp (yes in a bit of tight budget)
what am basically after right now is the display and battery life...also how does the xperia t perform as compared to sp ..is it very noticable? (tbh i would prefer a little low graphic detail than overheating and throttling)
my pros for t :
Roms i like are available
way better deign
cheaper
worries about t:
performance
battery
any suggestion is appreciated
If I were you I would take a look at the Motorola moto g. It has a nice screen in my opinion and battery life is great. It performs better than my T and it has android 4.4. The only con is the camera which is kind of bad. I don't know about rom development for the moto g but I assume there's quite a lot. And best of all, it's cheap!

In my opinion the speaker in the xperia t is amazing. I had a HTC HD 7 and compared to the the speaker was crap...

Talking about battery life on screen time is about 4-4:30 hours with normal behaviour I'm getting through the day but struggle in the evening when battery is low
If I were you I would wait a bit and see what is coming in the next months in the middle price segment because T is would not be my first choice ( bought it because of the price as well and the bad camera in the moto g and missing sd slot) BTW what bugs me most is this unbelievably tiny notification led... Had an XPERIA S and that one you could actually see from all perspectives, the one from XT I'd hardly to notice when looking at it directly... :'( why the hell Sony

My opinion is that T is a better phone than SP even though SP has a higher battery and slightly higher processor.
The T has a much better build quality than the SP and the design of T makes it easier to hold and use than SP.
SP does have the nice illumination bar but then it could be too bright at night or even stand out too much in a office environment, where the subtle notification led of T is better. I also hated the size at first but when you get used to the phone, you know which spot you need to focus on to see if it is blinking.
Performance might differ to individuals as it is dependant on how many apps you have.
Battery wise, I've gone from 100% to 0% in just over 4 hours with constant screen on usage on varying phone signals (being on train...).
One issue with my T is that others do not hear me well on the other end if I speak softly and I've narrowed it down to the actual microphone on phone.
Thanks Guys
ive placed my order for the T ...should get my device in a week
Good choice going for T. It's a well rounded device. I have it for over an year now and had no major problems with it.

A good idea to start is to use google and youtube to search. I just did it, took around 6 seconds and found many results.
I did that already
Its not a big deal to see what others thought and if they satisfied with there z1
I think Z1 is better than M8, I dont talk about the hardware, I talk about the experience
I personnaly don't like the HTC UI, it's a lot heavier than sony's and it's weirdly placed (compared to Google Experience or even sony's).
Overall, I think the Sony's UI is intuitive and clean, closer to a stock Google Experience.
I haven't had any first hand experience with M8, just felt it in hand at a service provider's stand, and I quite don't like it. It has a pretty weird length/width ratio, making it look elongated, and not wide enough. Plus, just like fellow posters mentioned it, HTC Sense UI doesn't make much sense to me, so to speak.
As for Z1, it looks just as classy (if not more so), cleaner and lighter UI, blazingly fast, better camera. Not to mention battery life. Have been happily using this Z1 since last November, best smartphone I've had so far.
So, in my opinion, go for Z1.
if you drive and use navigation app alot, stay away from z1, or probably from android. this sh*t can't even run a navigation + music player through bluetooth at the same time for 1 or 2 hours. reinstalling the firmware doesn't help. huge joke for this much hardware specs... as a driver who has to drive at long distances, i really regret getting the z1, or android... even my 3 years old nokia n8 can do a better job, seriously. so much for android's failed multitasking

I am sorry you have such problems, which, honestly I have never experienced. And, yes, I have been using navigation on the Z1, and the music player at the same time. Haven't had any problems on JB, and no problems on KK.
Perhaps you should use a GPS dedicated unit for long distances (I have got a Becker Ready 50, for that matter) although I have used the Z1's navigation for the past 6 months, with no problems whatsoever.
So going on like this will not help the OP, since both phones he mentioned run on Android, and both use the same Bluetooth protocols and also same Google Maps navigation system. But since you mentioned that Nokia N8, well, maybe he should reconsider then.

actually... the problem was that if i drive about 1 hour, the navigation and walkman player will just shut off by themselves, no force close window, nothing... even if they won't shut off by themselves, sometimes they are stuttered and laggy... same thing will happen even if you only use navigation... there is no problem if you are using the navigation for short distances but it's quite dangerous when that problem actually happens on the road.
don't go get N8, i was just saying. the app quality and quantity are too horrible. if OP really only wants to choose between these two, then definitely Z1 (camera), although it won't be a mistake to choose M8 (build quality). but if OP relies heavily on navigation like me, then go get a Lumia.
For everything other than camera and waterproofing, go for m8.
The screen, speakers, sound, etc are light years ahead.
Also way way more development

I have had a chance to compare the Z2 camera (the same module) against the One M8. Here is a detailed comparison:
The question is .... why are you comparing Z1 to one M8 instead of the Xperia Z2?
I have tested all three and the question is what you are looking for in the phone. Camera-wise there is no match to Xperias in terms of quality of pictures.
Xperia Z1:
+ Camera
+ IP Rating
- Not an IPS panel = poor viewing angles
- Shatterproof film on the screen with imprinted Sony logo
- Poor speakers
-/+ Blocky Design
- No IR Sensor or podometer
One M8:
+ Awesome Speakers and audio quality both on headphones as well as speakerphone and speakers
+ Very comfortable rounded design (slightly big bezels)
+ Better screen than that on Z1
+ IR Sensor + Podometer
- The body scratches easily
- No IP rating
Xperia Z2
A lot of things that were wrong with Z1 have been fixed in Z2 :good::
+ IPS Display
+ Front-facing stereo speakers (no match for M8 as they have waterproofing but still better than most competition)
+ Noise-cancelling headset
+ 5.2 inch display with better screen to body ratio (almost same size as Z1)
+/- Blocky Design
- No IR sensor or podometer
Thx for this review,
I didnt go for Z2 cuz it is big on hand.
I didnt try it by my self and I didnt know the z1 had thos problem while Z2 dont ?
Will consider it from now on
Thanks for this information

That's right M8 pics are better and has more quality than Z1, but Z1 hardware is better
Sony UI is not so heavy to use most spaces of the Ram
Z1 is heavier and can take more damages, even it's water resistance and you can safely take it in water and take pics

Why should I buy Xperia X Performance?

I have been a big fan of Xperia Z series since the first Z. I changed my phone every time the new Z came out (except Z1 since I just started my career life without much savings).
Every time the new Z came out, I could find its awesomeness, imo, for example the first Z was stylish, waterproof, and powerful but it suffers a lot from heat, washed out display, and loosen waterproof charging caps. Then Z1 came out with more charming metal body, magnetic charging port, and 20 Mpixels camera, highest for a smartphone at the time.
Z2 came out as what the first Z should be at the first place with bigger and vivid screen, stereo speakers, and battery life is awesome to the point that I never found any others with this battery longevity at the time . For Z3, is almost identical to Z2 in term of spec sheet but I found it's very nice to hold in my hand plus the speaker is a lot better, far better than even Z5.
Z4 was very good on the spec sheet, especially with no more microusb cap but the battery life is a very big disappointment with almost half what Z3 lasts. It also suffers a lot of heat from normal uses. Z5 premium is, imo, the most refined Xperia with decent battery life, big screen, stylish material and colors selection.
Also, I don't know if it's me alone but every time I got the new Xperia on my hand, I felt really good and every single one of them was attractive.
Strangely, I can't explain but when I hold X/XP on on my hand, I didn't feel a thing, not even a glimpse of attractiveness although my country is offered 64GB/dual sims variant at the same price as Galaxy S7 (32GB/dual sims variant) with contract. I was never really into Samsung before (not because I hate it but I just neither found it attractive) but this time, I event think of waiting for Note7.
What are you guys' opinions? What are your before and after buying feelings toward X Performance?
How I've tired from this speech. Shut up and go to gnusmas, apple, htc, moto/lenovo, xiaomi, zte, huawei and where u want! DON'T BUY SONY! Moaner!

Thanks a lot for your opinion. Actually I was about to buy XP. The price without contract is very high but the price with contract is acceptable. The plan that I will have to pay for is quite similar to what I currently use but I have to stay with it for a whole year. That's why I ask foy you guys' opinion at the first place. Because I love Xperia but this time I'm not really sure if it worth changing (not in term of spec sheet but your real experience of using it.
It seems you are extremely not appreciate the question but you made a good answer anyway. If a current user doesn't have such a good thing about it to say but purely throwing back a bad temper. It absolutely clarifies my answer.
If you are a dual sim user, you should note that the S7 forces the 2nd sim to be in 2G mode when the 1st sim is in 4G/3G, and vice versa.
On the other hand, the XP allows the 2nd sim to be in 3G-voice standby when the 1st sim is in 4G/3G. This functionality is important for countries like Korea or Japan which no longer have 2G, or countries like Singapore, Australia or USA which are going to shutdown their 2G networks soon. The other phones such as Mi5, Moto G4, Zuk Z2/Pro, etc which support this feature are from Chinese OEMs.
Another advantage the XP has over the S7 is Sony's willingness to allowing unlocking of the bootloader.
Im also considering getting a XP but with its cost here in the Philippines, i might get a S7 or a Z5.
I always look at the batt first, then the speakers, then the cam, then lastly the specs.
Get the sony xperia x performance. Hope getting a blazingly fast phone with a processor that snap dragon actually really refined and improved with a bigger jump than previous iterations.
Your being the best camera in a smart phone and one of the best android UIs on the market. And a nice phone that isn't riddled by logos. It's Sonys best. Everything you need nothing you don't. And the best waterproofing.
Sent from my F8132 using Tapatalk
^ I've been backreading the XP thread for quite some time now. How's the batt life and the speakers?
i bought mine for good stereo speakers screen size ,can change os if needed, underwater just in case , didn't but HTC cause is was to big and clumsy for me and mini specs wasn't the same at all
but sony dont have same and good speakers anymore
my last phone was twice louder and more bass (wt19i walkman)
but i would've wait for XP is about 50% different from Z5's( i have z5c) 80K and antutu against 120K (XP) and more 200$ bit didn't know how much it would take and my phone was really slow and old 6-5year old
btw Regular Xperia X is less fast than Z5's
anyway it was BIG different from my old sony (LWW wt19i) 10K score 700% LOL.... 1100% could be nicer.. but
to the point if you have Z5 dont buy the XP phone up to 40-60% overall performance does not worth spend another 750US$
The XP is waterproof, you have to get the S7 active of you want that feature, which is locked to AT&T in the US and is priced about 25% more than the XP. That made my choice pretty simple.
Sent from my F8132 using Tapatalk
I had XPERIA Z5 and bought XPERIA X Performance. This is the best Sony phone to date with no good battery life (battery life is better then one on XPERIA Z5 at the moment). Only reason to buy XPERIA X Performance if you already have XPERIA Z5 is because of heat. XPERIA X Performance only heats when using camera longer or if you play games too long and now in Croatia outside temperature is about 35 C. So if the heat is your reason buy it. Otherwise don't buy it. But if you have some older phone you should buy it.
About swiching to Samsung instead I don't know. I am not Samsung fun because of their UI.
Coming from z1c, z3c, z5c to now owning the XP for less then a week.
Before the XP the z5c was a let down compared to its predecessor the z3c. Particularly in general performance but moreover the lacklustre camera performance (the plagued 810 chip didn't help the Z5 line.)
Now, the XP.
Hands down is a far more refined device. As refined as the z3c. The performance is lightning - thanks to the 820 chip and the extra GB ram (3gb.)
Coupled with the lightning performance on the camera FUNCTIONALITY (I'm not stating the QUALITY of the Shots are the best - however the quality is drastically better then the z5c predecessor.)
But what I am stating is that the camera responds and opens and takes pictures faster then on any Sony I've played with (those of you coming from the z5 line know exactly what I'm on about.)
For instance, from standby/sleep mode. As long as the camera settings are preset to 'Launch & Capture.' Then when taking a picture from standby you will notice the picture that has been captured is of that instance of when you clicked the camera button... Although the UI hasn't even rendered. Try this with a moving object and you will notice how frkin fast the capture time is.
Again not professing the QUALITY of the Shots are superior, but simply that the function of the camera is now quite sublime.
The XP works VERY VERY WELL, overall outstanding performance. Yes it will have its niggles. But generally it's the best of what Sony have been trying to achieve.
I don't care for 4k video capture. Nor a 4k or QHD screen. This 1080p is more then ample for a phone. For me coming from the zCompact series (720p screens), this XP screen is amazing and more then enough.
I am very pleased with this device.
The only drawback is the lacklustre Sony Stamina mode. But this is almost not there fault. For OEMs to provide Android phones officially they must adopt key features from Google's updates, hence Sony HAD to employ Google Doze feautre, in this forced effort they clearly couldn't employ Sony's native Stamina Mode (succesfully at least) in the way we'd been accustomed to especially on the z3 line (you can imagine Doze and Sony Stamina not working happily hand in hand, as they both in essence are trying to achieve the same thing, albeit Sony Stamina Mode was far superior.)
Just my 2cents on anyone fighting with Sony Stamina Mode.
Fantastic device.

Having read through the XP forum here, and then this thread, I felt some '1st Hand Heritage Sony User' experience and comprehension was required.
I also can attest that the fingerprint sensor on the XP is insanely faster then the z5c. Wasn't expecting it to be quite this responsive. Impresses on that front too.
Sony UI is second to the Nexus Line. That's a fact.
As good as Samsung's hardware is, there software is like a step backwards from Androids look/feel. Whereas Sony manage to keep the look/feel impressively Stock (replace Sony Launcher with Nova all day everyday, and I don't think you would notice much difference between a Nexus user experience and the Sony User' experience - again this is from my 1st hand experience.)
1 niggle I've noticed, actually since the z3 line, is that the WiFi signal has typically got poorer over longer distance from the WiFi router.
I can achieve a better WiFi signal on my z3c then I can on my z5c and XP.
This thread should be changed to 'Why wouldn't you buy the XP?' ?

I've been a Sony Fanboy since the Release of the Xperia S, I owned the SP, the ZR bought the Z1 Compact as well and finally the Z3 Compact and I must say they did really well on those devices, especially the Z3 Compact. But looking at the X Performance, I think they're just trying too hard, the price tag to begin with doesn't even look welcoming at 700 Dollars for a phone without any fingerprint scanner, and the battery life isn't any good as well reading from numerous reviews which compares it to the previous flagship the Z5. For now I have my eyes set either on the S6 or the One M9, especially the M9. Those boomsound speakers sound better than Sony's speakers any time.
This is just my opinion tho, If coming from the Z3 Device line, stick with your Z3 and wait for newer models. The Z3 is by far one of the best Sony Z Line phones, stable, doesn't overheat and an active community to keep it going.
So true RE Z3 as the standout of all Sony's.
When it comes to a price war, then yes, the XP price is very overzealous. Can't argue there.
But i find when it comes to a User requiring the 3 points below (such as myself, typically coming from Sony's compact range):
1. Comfortable 1 handed ergonomics.
2. Up to date hardware
3. a Nexus like - look & feel (an unadulterated Android experience.)
Then I conclude the XP is at the forefront in this regard.
Personnel preferences as always ?
