A3010 (China Variant) Carrier Aggregation Issues - OnePlus 3T Questions & Answers

Hello there!
Long time lurker of XDA here - I'd love to enlist the expertise of all you guys here
Was terribly impressed when you guys figured out how to unlock bands and thought you guys might be able to help me (or rather everyone in my country using the A3010) out!
So in Singapore, our carriers use bands 3/7/8 (1800/2600/900 mhz). Unfortunately for us, Oneplus does not ship directly to Singapore so we often have to rely on third party parallel importers, and most of their stock is the A3010 one.
So the bands supported by the A3003 and A3010 models are below.

As we found on our local forums, the A3003 is somehow able to get carrier aggregation but not the A3010 and we're all quite puzzled as to why.
One of the theories is that the CA bands (which are not listed on the Oneplus website) are different between the two models.
Perhaps someone here might be able to help?

all singapore bands are supported by China Model,
you need to know what bands exactly are used by your carrier for CA,
and by saying CA is not working, what kind of method did u use to check it ? since not every ROM can show the difference between using CA or not,
yes, 4G+ is a clear indication that your phone use CA, but again, that's not always a case on every ROM
i would suggest u to run network signal guru while doing speedtest, and see whether your phone utilize the CA or not
in a normal situation, the phone usually wont use CA. It will only use it once there's significant data traffic,
example, the phone might not use CA just for pulling GCM push, but will use it on streaming session,
at least thats what happen in most of phones i used,
my A3000 can use CA with no problem, so does the Mi5, S7 edge, and even the economic Redmi Note 3 can do CA

also, each carrier might use different config for CA,
example, my carrier only use CA on band 40, and wont do so on band 5,
you can see my screenshots bellow, my area do not have strong band 40 signal, thus the phone wont be able to use CA, since it only connected to band 5,
but by locking my band to 40 ONLY, and forcing the phone to use it, the CA is easily triggered

Thanks for your input! As what I understand, everyone who commented were using OOS 3.5.4/3.5.3 so with regards to the ROM I think that was standardized..
For the benefit of everyone going to do the testing, which segment of network signal guru demonstrates the use of CA? The terminology on the app is slightly complex too

The first page will show you LTE details, next page (swipe left) will show you LTE CA Matrix, if your phone use CA it will show that it connect to at least 2 carrier(s)

Root the phone, Download Network Signal Guru, Open it, look at the top right, there's three dots menu button, tap it, and choose band locking,
disable all unnecessary or unwanted bands

Hope someone with the right knowledge can come around to advise how to make A3010 get 4G+....

Is your problem solved? I'm also having problem with mi5. No CA on band 3+7. Unfortunately Malaysian telco also using band 3 and 7 for CA.

Same problem here on A3010 Maxis Malaysia where it needs B3+B7 to do CA.
A fellow friend has opened a thread, OnePlus bughunters requested for logs but keep on saying issue was not seen through the logs.
https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/4g-missing-in-a3010.495892/
Would be great if anyone can advise how to do CA on B3 + B7 in a way of unlocking if it is possible just like how unlocking other bands was performed

If you refer to my post, my point was only that there's a little app that shows the Android service menu. The band is indicated (mine says HSPA - my contract doesn't allow LTE, so I can't say anything about that).

that app your referring to is the same menu as going into *#*#4636#*#*
also, HSPA, LTE, GSM, etc is not the band type, its a network type.. by Band type I mean LTE: Bands: 1/3/4/7/17/38/40, which is also another way to describe radio frequency
as you can see in the first pic of my first post, in the Samsung device, it shows Band 4
but my question was for mindblizzard,
I don't think the phone can show that information

I would assume to see if the band unlock mod works for other frequencies?
I will see if band 20 is unlocked in few weeks once i get my 4g/LTE data package.

That's all fine and dandy, but it's not like your carrier is operating multiple frequencies that you're likely to see ever. Maybe if you live in an incredibly dense population center, but even then... Perhaps I'm missing something.

Fair enough, if you have LTE already, and they are simply deploying a new frequency, you likely won't notice any change, to any of the service. Speeds don't increase between bands, the only reason a carrier deploys a new band, is to fight radio interference from other carriers. Given the cost of a single radio, carriers generally only deploy these new radios in VERY congested areas. Meaning, that in a city that has, say 15 towers, 2-3 of them would actually get the upgrade, in the area that suffers from the most interference. (You have to bear in mind, that a full tower build, requires 6 radios, each radio costing about $18,000 for the radio, another $1000 for the antenna, another $500-1500 for the power supply and cabling. They don't just "upgrade" an entire area, it takes too long to recoup costs)

Ah my mistake, i had in my head he meant to check for bands in the area which he can use with the 'unlocked' frequency mod..for some reason. My total mistake!
However what i meant with what i said when i get my 4g is that i can confirm that the unlock mod will enable band 20 since our OPO is restricted/doesnt support it by default. The band app would be good though!

Xiaomi Mi5 3G/LTE testing. (In Progress)

Update:
As of 03/31/2016 I'm testing networks that ride on AT&Ts towers seeing as T-Mobile hadn't been working. (Guessing band limitations.) Updated below is Straight Talk HSPA/HSPA+ initial tests. (Tested indoors near Sacramento California.)

Not that it's my concern. But people want to probably know if band 20 works
I'll be keeping my eye on this thread. :cyclops:
please test the signal (2g, 3g and 4g) if is strong, compared with another cellphone; and how is the call quality and how is the voice,
thank you

All bands that I can test will be tested but please do keep in mind that I live near Sacramento California and will only be able to test my area, Tahoe, San Fran.
I will be testing with multiple carriers also.
This is a group effort, anyone who has it, test it.
Thanks all!
Definately interested in this thread, the only two reasons I haven't got a Mi5 yet is because
a) I'm Australian, and they don't support band 28 (supposedly) and
b) They haven't released the Pro model yet.
I do have some questions though, as the first post is quite vague...
What will you be testing? Throughput? Reception? Supported bands?
If you're testing bands...
Will you just be testing in its' completely standard state?
Are you going to attempt modification with QPST/QXDM to enable US bands?
If you can indeed get more bands on it I'm getting one.
I do believe that it's a possibility - I read somewhere (can't find the source now...) that the X12 modem is the first by Qualcomm to have the modem/baseband in the same solution.
I'm assuming the reason some phones could be unlocked and some couldn't before this is due to vendor-specific modem adjustments or different sub-SKUs of the Qualcomm chipset, so I'm excited to see if it's possible.
All reasonable questions.
I'll be testing latency, download, upload, bands on specific carriers, and reception on specific carriers.
I won't be testing any modifications any time soon, sorry.
Thanks!
I've just switched my network in order to make use of Volte and 4G+. Looking forward to seeing how fast it can go. Supposed to be upto 300mbps over here in DK
With the 2G network shutting down in Australia at the end of this year, I'm actually very keen on a replacement that can handle concurrent 3G/3G on each sim.
Would you also be able to test this?

Just got mine Mi5 64Gb pre-ordered for about 440eur!
Well, the eBay seller I bought my Xiaomi Mi5 from just said he's out of stock. I'm now in the process of getting a refund and will be trying to get another Mi5 soon.
Keep the thread alive, do some speed tests etc. and I'll keep everyone updated!!

Most likely no, the LTE won't work.
I found the Qualcomm drivers for the Xiaomi Mi 5 in the Diag mode
Code:
*#*#717717#*#*
With these it should be possible to unlock more bands, at least in theory.

P9 4G+ : inter or intra band ?

Hi,
For 4G+ Intra or inter-bands ? Someone have an answer for this question ?
Some devices, like Honor 7, are given for having 4G+. BUT only with intra-band system.
And in some countries, like France, 4G+ impossible with an intra-band system, only with inter-bands.
Therefore, you buy a supposed 4G+ device, and you always stay on 4G .
That's why an accurate answer about this question is important.
Thank you very much!
However there are also some LTE band differences between the 3 versions:
- Global 4/64 dual SIM
- Global 3/32 dual SIM
- Global 3/32 single SIM
and maybe Chinese versions are even different.
http://consumer.huawei.com/en/mobile-phones/p9
A similar problem about 4G and 4G+ in France was discussed on XDA about the Huawei Mate 8.
Thank you.
I was talking in fact for the EVA-L09 sold in France and Europe. Single sim 32Go.
And yes, I was also thinking about the similar problem on Mate 8. It's true.
It should be better if Huawei communicates more accuratly about this.
About the Mate 8, I can say that my Mate 8 (international European L29 version unbranded) never showed "4G+" in Italy (I even doubt the 4G+ symbol is included in its ROM...), whilst my new Samsung S7 Edge always shows 4G+ in the same locations...
Exact. That's why I'm in doubt about Huawei devices now...
Up
Someone got working 4G+ with european version?
I would be intrested too.
EDIT: Never seen 4g+ symbol...
As i didnt know about this problem and one of the main reasons i bought this phone was 4g+. So finding this out kinda angers me. I already contacted huawei regarding this lets see what they have to say about it.
I get 4G+ on my P9 when an EE SIM is on it (UK), so that will be 1800+2600 LTE.
First Huawei/Honor device that I've had that shows the + bit (P8, Honor 5X, Honor 7, Nexus 6P all don't).

Yeah, Huawei answered me on social media, and they just told me what 4G frequencies the phone has. Support still hasn't answered me, which i guess means they won't answer.

but by all logic it has to work if the frequencies match right ? since my carrier uses most of the l19's frequencies yet nothing, but I still somehow hope that it is just a software glitch, because as I mentioned before, that I believe, that I saw 4g+ icon when I unboxed the phone, but when I updated it , it was gone, although I'm not complaining about the speeds since my top speedtest was 75mbps down and variating 25-75mbps, while up 7-22
So Huawei actually answered, they say that they do not have access to this information, which feels strange. They sent me a lot of data regarding the bands, like frequencies, signal strength, downlink and uplink on different bands, but no carrier aggregation bands....

Can anyone confirm the compatibility of the Exynos variant with T-mobile? Frequency check websites show 100% compatibility but looking for personal experience feedback. Also curious if B66 works as intended in the US.

Anyone play around with the idea of loading the T-mobile S8 firmware onto the Exynos international version of the phone to see if that would be enough to get Wifi calling working? Wifi calling is essential to me since I work in a building with great wifi but no service.

You cannot install Snapdragon firmware on an Exynos based phone. This will lead to a brick. The only thing from a Snapdragon firmware you can install I believe is CSC but don't quote me on that.

I was also wondering if flashing the tmobile CSC to the 955F would enable wifi calling. The only LTE band that the Exynos variant doesn't have that T-mobile uses is 66 and from what I've been able to research that's not sued int he NYC area. But wifi calling is critical. I use it a lot to call back home when I travel abroad.

Thanks but there's something weird about your screenshot. Band 32 is out of order and is not used on any Samsung phone. I think that should be 42. I find it hard to believe that there is a typo in the service menu.
I was using frequencycheck.com and willmydevicework.com as my sources. I agree that on this point I'm positive that the 950 and 955 should be the same.

Yeah it's strange and I do think it's a typo. But that's what service mode shows, regardless of which SIM I select.
With the exynos you'll also lose VoLTE. Meaning in areas where T-Mobile is using B12 LTE to extend the range of its network (B12 LTE 700mhz goes further than their EDGE and HSPA network (1700,1900,2100mhz) so if you're in an area and only have B12 LTE signal you won't be able to make or receive calls or texts. And in an emergency scenario if there was no other network for your phone to roam to, you also wouldn't be able to dial 911. Kinda an important feature imo.
I use the 930F on t-mobile and will likely do the same with the s8. If you care about rooting, you should get a 950f. It can be rooted easily and with root, you can get TKKG1994's CSC selection tool and use it to enable VOLTE/Wifi calling). If you aren't going to root, then the carrier phone is good.
I don't know how gigabit LTE is affected but I doubt in 2017 this is a game changer.

Question Vodafone UK - no 4G+/5G

Has anyone else got a CN version and on Vodafone UK? I can't seem to get 4G+ or 5G to work. Download speeds on 4g are a lot less than my S21 and Cellmapper seems to confirm no LTE-A or NR. Even tried a SIM swap but that doesn't seem to have helped.
It's fine with my EE SIM, shows 4g+
Some googling shows others with similar issues with no CA on some European networks but others are fine. Wondering if the EEA firmware is likely to have a different modem config file?
I have a CN model and my EE gets 4G+ and 5G without any issues.
I also have a work phone on Vodafone. If I take the Vodafone SIM and put it inside my Mi 11 Ultra, it only shows as 4G. 5G won't turn on either even though it's supported in my price plan and works on my work phone.
One thing I have noticed is that the CN model does not support Band 32/1400MHz SDL, which Vodafone in the UK uses whereas EE does not - could this be the main difference as your area happens to rely on this band?
I don't think that's the issue. My local area masts only have band 1,7 and 20 anyway on Vodafone UK and on my S21 Ultra I get CA ok.

Strange, not sure what it could be. Likely some sort of firmware issue/config matter then as I can't get LTE on my Vodafone work SIM either.
Hopefully once it's out in the UK I can replace the firmware with that version. I will try the global one next week though.
The xiaomi.eu roms are based on the CN version, so likely to have the same modem files I assume.
Have you changed the sim cards with newer ones to rule out some old SIM cards issues ?

Yes, tried a SIM swap, still no CA on Vodafone.
4G+ should active automatically when network have these combinations available on network: https://cacombos.com/device/M2102K1C . Chinese devices doesn't support all 4G Carrier Aggregation combinations used in Europe so that could be reason why you don't see 4G+ active.
That's why it's recommend buy Global version: https://cacombos.com/device/M2102K1G

If this is the explanation, i guess there is nothing to do except switching the chinese for global version ?
I think we're just waiting for someone to try the global or EEA version, not brick their phone, and report back on whether CA is now active.

I hope im wrong but i think when it comes to network bands its only about hardware , not software .
Hopefully this can be fixed by software stuff but i doubt it .
Before i bought the phone , i checked bands support and all the UK ones were supported . But it looks like things are more complicated than just supported bands .
I believe CA is a software issue, as the modem just need to know which bands can be aggregated together.
I just downgraded to the Global 12.0.1 version and still no CA.
Well , if someone could tell us what are the odds of this being somehow fixed in the future , i would be really grateful. If there are no chances for some fix , i will definitely sell it even though i freaking love this phone .

Well there is not much todo because CA combinations are defined in modem firmware. Changing OS to different version may not change modem firmware.

These are configured to modem firmware. You can't change these values because it requires source code of modem and then compile it. We don't have modem source code so we can't change carrier aggregation combinations.
So only what we know is support per devices - https://cacombos.com have good database
Considering this , anyone from UK wants to buy a Mi 11 Ultra 12 / 512 ? Thanks .
Just tried a Global version, and 4G+ works fine.

And the CN version:
So moral of the story, it's not just about the LTE bands it supports. I'll know for next time!
