Which versions can have custom ROMs installed? - Sony Xperia X Performance Questions & Answers

Can all F8132 get root and have custom ROMs installed? Or just one's with a bootloader that can be unlocked? From what I red a root exploit has been discovered but is very difficult. Is it possible on all phones with unlocked bootloader?

Only those with the unlockable bootloader, no matter which model (single or dual sim). Also exploit/root is quite easy to achieve (imo).

[Q] So does the method of rooting the normal HTC One work on the Google edition?

My HTC One just came in and i'm switching from iPhone so i am currently very inexperienced on the android platform. If the rooting method is the same, I am set, but if it is different, i might need some additional help if possible

right now you'll just have to try.
fastboot oem unlock to unlock the bootloader
then push a custom recovery
then install supersu.zip just like we do now.
The only unknown is do custom recovery we have now work on the GE phone or do we need a new port

No, it's unlockable but ships locked
it's not simlocked.

I'm also coming from an iPhone and thus a beginner...would this suffice for simply unlocking the bootloader and rooting? I have no plans of flashing any ROMs yet. I mostly just want root access for Tasker and Titanium backup.
Thanks.

I don't know I've never used a toolkit in my life.
It's trivial as far as rooting most devices goes.
unlock the bootloader
flash custom recovery
flash supersu.zip

One last question. Would unlocking the bootloader/flashing the recovery and supersu.zip be the same on the Google Edition as on the stock HTC One?

ok.... what am i missing? what is the difference between unlocking the bootloader on the T-Mo Moto X from Moto's site, and getting a Dev edition besides losing warranty? if I do unlock the bootloader, does it make the root process simpler?

There is no difference between the two besides that the dev edition doesn't come in 16GB. Yes, unlocking the bootloader makes the rooting process simpler. A lot simpler.

Just flash the TWRP recovery .img in fastboot. There are instructions on the TWRP site. Once thats done, TWRP will root for you.
and the process still wipes your phone, right?

Root and locked bootloader

I have a Dev edition and have unlocked my bootloader and rooted. My next question is there any benefit to relocking bootloader and keeping root? In addition is there any benefit to flashing original recovery? I mainly wanted root for Xposed.
Simple answer no and no. You only need stock recovery if you want to take an ota

[Q] Rooting options for Moto X Europen version Android version 4.4.4

Hello
I recently bought a Moto X (European version) and I would like to have the Xposed framework on it. To do that I need to have root access as I understand it. To gain root access I need to unlock the bootloader, or do I? I have read a couple of threads where an unlocked bootloader wasn't needed to root the phone, there was apparently some sort of exploit to forgo that. I'm wondering if that is possible with the Android 4.4.4 and European version combo?
I appreciate your time and help!
Best regards
ArticHood
Yes you need an unlocked bootloader to Root 4.4.4.
See the one stop shop for Root in the general section, right near the top. ?

With 4.4.2, the vulnerability/exploit used to disable write protection on the 2013 X was patched and no longer works.
With 4.4.4, the vulnerability/exploit used to root phones with a locked bootloader has been patched.
With 4.4.4, the only way to root and disable write protection is to unlock the bootloader.
Link to Moto X unlocked bootloader?

Once again, you don't. And if you ask a third time, the answer will still be you don't.
A locked bootloader will not allow unsigned images to be flashed to the phone. Even if it did, it wouldn't boot as long as the bootloader is locked. The kernel on this particular phone involves some files that are written to /system and not just /boot. Locked bootloader = no write access to /system = no custom kernel.

Download Sunshine. Use Sunshine. Pay $25. Here is the website to get it: http://theroot.ninja/
Don't want to/can't spend $25? Then stay locked and unrooted. This is your only option.

But why did you create a new thread for answers you already knew? You were the one who asked for the cracked version of Sunshine a few days ago, so you ALREADY KNOW Sunshine is the only way to unlock the bootloader.

Plus, it's not like the question hasn't been asked and answered by others like a thousand times before.
Creating new threads won't change the answer.
When you asked for cracked Sunshine, I pointed you here:

It applies even more now.
