L09-C432B181 Problem with mystical dimming - Huawei P9 Plus Questions & Answers

hello,
by open apps like whatsapp, gmail, dolphin and more the brightness goes down a little bit (i think one step)....
going back to homescreen or leaving the app brightness back to higher level as it was.
it's less auto brightness on or off.... always this annoying thing.
any idea?
thx, cu

How to Keep the brightness always minimum?

Despite doing this manually in the settings, occasionally the brightness goes up due to unknowns. Is there a way to keep the brightness always low?

If you swipe along the notification bar at the top you can increase or decrease the screen brightness.
"it's a feature not a bug"
i hated it myself till i read somewhere that (only if you deactivate auto-brightness) you can increase/decrease the brightness by swiping left/right on your notification panel! it happens often by mistake when you pull it down ... thats your problem
in the new froyo rom's this is no longer the case so now i use auto-mode and wait will this "feature" is no more
edit: Intratech...too fast

I never noticed this actually.. Also ensure though in the browser you have set brightness manually there
have the same problem, but i find the auto brigthness setting saves my battery more rather than accidentally turning it maximum brightness
I tried the "Dimmer" and "Brightness!" apps from the market. But none of them 'Keep' the brightness at the minimum always.
I've noticed 3 places where the brightness can be set - 1st being the web browser, 2nd the actual settings option, and 3rd the video player. Currently, I disabled the auto brightness control and I've set all 3 places to 1 step above minimum. Seems to work for me.
Also, I have a widget on the home screen to set/monitor the brightness level, it's called 'Brightness Widget by Stark Technology Inc.'.

Why is there a separate brightness setting for browser?

Is this the Android thing or Samsung thing? I've used HTC before and found no such setting.
It is so annoying. Every time the browser is opened, the brightness is changed!
Why the hell do they have a brightness setting in browser????
Ive seen other people complain about the same thing, its really weird.
I believe its to do with the phone being in power saving mode.
Yes, if you open the browser and hit menu and go more then brightness setting. You only need to set it once though.

But when you change your general screen brightness, your browser brightness is still the same.
There is just no point to have a separate setting there.
I agree. It's really obnoxious. Droid comic viewer does the same thing. I don't get what the advantage of having a separate brightness control could possibly be.
The browser has it's own settings for brightness, what's all the fuzz about, I personally think its useful.

i find it useful, i keep my phone on min brightness, but i keep my browser at full lol
It's there because the Android browser is an all-white background by default, unlike the rest of the OS, and may be too bright for some people. Easy to change in the browser and not **** with your main brightness setting.
A stupid thing with absolutely no benefit to anyone.
I hope Android product managers read these forums. But I doubt it.
They should just implement a check box that would set it's brightness to the system. That way everyone would be happy.
I think it is a retarded PITA to have a separate brightness setting for the browser.

I find it useful, but really its personal preference. Just a note, it can quickly be overriden by using the slide to change brightness at the top of the screen.

AFAIK its a samsung thing, and an annoying bug in my opinion.
I don't use auto brightness or power saving in the phone settings.
If I have my phone set bright, I'm most likely in a bright environment. So if I need to open browser I'm going to want the same brightness. The same is true if I'm in a dark environment and have the phone set dim. The video player has the same problem. Samsung should really stick to hardware.
If you set the phone to auto brightness it disables that option, and puts the browser at the same level as the phone.

It literally lakes 2 seconds to adjust it again from the notification bar if you have auto turned off. Not a big deal IMO.
It is *extremely* annoying for those of us who don't use Automatic Brightness. It's this kind of trashy little things that send people running for iPhones...
Is there an AOSP version of Browser.apk I can push (KB5 2.2) that doesn't have this? I don't care about losing the window previews or other touchwiz features of the browser, I'm just *sick and tired* of having to change my brightness settings a second time every time I want to browse the web. Third party browsers are too bloated and don't do it for me... I just want the stock Android Browser, but with the SYSTEM brightness setting only... Like every other Android phone.

Is it possible to change the settings of the brightness when online?

Basically I'm happy with the screen brightness at its lowest since my preference is to save battery however when I use the internet and the likes of online apps the screen brightness is set to automatic as the display brightens and dulls down when I cover the proxy sensor... any solutions?

You can try Tasker to define when opening a game like Angry Birds the brightness settings are at its highest.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.dinglisch.android.taskerm
when in the stock internet browser, hit the menu button, the brightness settings are in there, no idea why the browser has seperate setting to the rest of the phone :/

I've noticed it with Dolphin browser as well, must be some kind of battery saver implemented by Huawei. Never found any setting switch to turn it off though. Odd I would say, but doesn't bother me that much.
When batterymanager is set to smart it does that.
Put it om performance and it does not go dim.

for me many apps
like message,contacts,fb,chrome etc.
I'm having the same problem. My screen brightness autodims to zero randomly when I am using Google Chrome. I hope it can be fixed if it's a UI bug.
VTR-L29, EMUI 5.1
hello,
it seems that you need to disable any power saving settings
disable the power genius app if you have it
or use 3rd party app like lux lite
those are the solutions i found so far
if they would release an update soon, maybe they will fix this issue
good luck
Same problem here... Kinda retarded

It seems that I have found a solution.
I noticed that (im my case) the screen dims every time when the keyboard pops up, so I have uninstalled google and swift keyboard updates and installed a different keyboard.
No problems with brightness since I done that, so give it a try.
Also, the screen brightness was not reducing when it was on maximum (with auto brightness off ofcourse).
