So I've just gotten a P8 Lite with EMUI 4.0 and Android 6.0 installed as a replacement phone from the store for a couple of weeks probably.. And I just noticed that it doesn't have the "Privacy Protection" settings, so I can't add a guest user / second account on the same phone? Is this something that has to be activated or is there a workaround? It should be under Settings > Advanced Settings > Security > Privacy Protection but that last option just isn't there...
Is there any communication about WHY they took out this function? Googled a bit but didn't find anything useful, besides some other frustrated people but no real answers as to why it has disappeared or possibly how to work around?
Why? I don't know. It's Huawei!!
As for the solution, check this thread - chapter 10 (if you mmeet the prerequisites) ....

Google has done something in Android 4.2 that is good for some of their older users. They have hidden the Developer settings. For most of their older users, they don’t need these, and might turn them on by mistake and play with them if they are in plain sight. So Google has hidden them to keep that from happening.
When you go into settings, you’ll notice no Developer settings. So here’s how you get around that:
Tap Settings
Tap About Phone
Tap the Build number 7 times, yes 7 times.
Voila! You’ve got developer settings again.
So that’s that. But if we didn’t tell you, you may never have found it. You’ll also need this to unlock the bootloader and to root your device. We’ll be putting up some more Android 4.2 and Nexus stuff over the next few weeks so stay tuned.

This is smart
By all means, its a good idea; but does that mean there no easter egg in 4.2?! I like flicking jelly beans!!
Hello,
This isn't development. Also, this thread already exists in our General section

Hi all,
I recently bought a P7 as my new smartphone. However, there is one thing missing. In the EMUI settings device encryption is not accesible, however this is a standard Android feature. I need this feature enabled because of enterprise policies otherwise I can't connect to our Exchange. Contact & agenda synchronization is necessary for me as my smartphone is a working device.
I tried updating to EMUI 3, but it's still not part of the ROM. It's a bit ridiculous Huawei isn't enabling this option within EMUI or doesn't even put encryption enabled by default.
Is their a workaround to enable this feature?
Thanks in advance.

I didn't find in setting but using the app "activity launcher" you can reach the hidden menu.
Open activity launcher>all activity>setting> encrypt phone
I don't know if encryption will work
Thank you for this interesting post usb2. I am able to open the Encrypt Phone activity and I can do all the prerequisites. When I start the encryption the phone gets "stuck" on a white screen with the green Android dude.
It's actually the same as the encryption screen on stock android, except without text and loading bar. Only the guy on a white background.
First I thought he was just busy encrypting but after 3 hours it was still like this. I just rebooted my phone and he is still working. Still not encrypted tho.
This is sad, I will need another ROM for this phone.
I recently retired my son's Galaxy Tab 2 (7") for a new SM-710 (updated OTA to 5.1.1). The old Tab 2 (running CM12) was setup in multi-user mode with him as a restricted user. It worked great - I could limit his access on an app by app basis, his data didn't cross-over into my data, he could log into services with his own account etc etc.
So I had intended to setup his new SM-710 the same way - me as the primary user, him as a restricted user. One HUGE problem - the Samsung (TouchWiz) version of Lollipop seems to be missing a critical menu item that is present on stock Lollipop devices. I can't find the "add users from lockscreen" option in the USER settings. On stock devices there is a menu button (top right) where this option is located. It is usually defaulted to unchecked, however on the Samsung version, the device behaves as if the option is checked, and yet there is no menu item to uncheck. This results in both the "GUEST" and "ADD USER" items appearing in the multi-user lockscreen menu when the device is locked. This is a problem for a multitude of reasons. My son could simply create a new user from the lockscreen and use that account to bypass all the restrictions I have placed on his account. Moreover, anyone else could do the same thing, making it impossible to secure the device.
I have tried a few fixes that I found here and elsewhere. All of them required me to root the device, none of them worked (build.prop edits, sql db edits etc). Happy to describe in detail what I tried, but didn't want to make the post any longer that it had to be). Has no one else noticed this problem/error/bug? Am I missing something obvious?
Any help / insight would be appreciated.
Have a look at Samsungs' "Kids Mode", available in the Galaxy Apps store. It is supposed to be their solution for handing your tablet or phone to your children. It requires a pin code to leave the Kids Mode. However, I suspect it is targeted at rather youngish kids.
My T815, which is still at 5.0.2, doesn't even have the options you describe. I'm a bit annoyed that Samsung has spent time disabling features that just come for free from Google.
The build.prop edit should have worked according to other threads. I'm not rooted, so I can't tell.
Hi all. I discovered a very annoying bug in the system. If you switch on the phone without unlocking it and go to user you find guest user and the link to "other options". If you follow this link you go inside the settings and the phone is.... Unlocked!!!!!
I got this note 8 new unlocked no carrier etc, first day I owned it did upgrade from 7 --> 8. No issues but seemed laggy I had alot of apps and played with som3 settings, after getting a good feel for how I wanted this device configured long term I decided on factory reset.
Since then, dev. Options is gone. Yes I tap the tappy thing 7 to 100 times and get message "you are now developer" but is a lie. No such option. Only empty longing where should be. Do again and message "already developer" another lie.
This device junk?

Best bet is to try resetting one more time. Can you post a screenshot of your settings page ?

So, indeed, I did try to factory reset again, same result. I took screen shots but I cant post them up just yet, forum rules, but all they show is android telling me that dev. options already enabled, then a shot of the place where dev. Options should be but is not.
If I could hazard a guess, and I am not by any means as savvy with this as most of you, but here is what I have noticed and suspect:
I got this device from rent a center new with android 7. RAC uses admin software to lock you out if you dont pay, but I have never "run into" that software or seen an effect due to it. On android 7, I had dev options. I also had an LG G6 from RAC on android 7, same thing no issues and had dev options.
Then upgrade the Note8 to Oreo, great, love it... still had dev options. Then reset a few weeks later as described above, and no more dev options.
Here is the differences I have noticed:
When going through initial device setup on android 8, it has a Knox Configuration process that I didnt see when initializing same device but android 7.
Also, there is more Knox software than there was before. For example, "KC Client" is a new app in my list after this reset. I could be mistaken though, I wasnt exactly looking out for such changes.
Is it possibke that Knox is blocking dev options? If so, this device will be going back to RAC post haste!
I've run into the same problem and mine is from RAC as well.

A few people have had similar problems I saw here and here.
upload screenshots of your settings and About Phone page on linx.li then paste the links to them here.
Have you applied the OTA updates since factory resetting? I would try to apply any updates you can and
Did you clear caches after doing factory reset? Long shot but it might help
To clear your Cache go to to Settings > Device Maintenance > Storage > Click menu (three dots top right) > Storage Settings > Internal Storage > Cached Data > Clear
Then do the Dalvik Cache: Power Phone completely off > Hold down Power, Bixby, and Up Volume button until phone powers on > Keep holding Bixby and Volume up untul recovery screen pops up > Use volume buttons to navigate to wipe cache partition > Press volume to select Wipe cache partition > Select Yes > reboot
With an unlocked phone can't you just put it in download mode and flash twrp? Or are you not familiar with that process?

DId you do the same process? 7 > Oreo > Back to 7 and then no dev options? Or what happened
No I didn't. I just updated to oreo via ota
Was able to access developer options using an app from the play store but as you can see from this screenshot OEM unlock is not clickable. Any ideas on how to circumvent this?
