OnePlus 3T On Verizon - OnePlus 3T Questions & Answers

So I was bored and wanted to play around and try to get this to work. So far I have been successful to get data text and mms working on 3G. Now I have noticed that when I boot the phone that it connects to LTE with a strong signal then it reconnects back to 3G its almost like its possible but something it blocking it. Has anyone had success getting further?

UPDATE: I have gotten FULL LTE on Verizon working. Currently trying to figure out a way to allow CDMA as well for calls

Yea I know after hours of messing around lol and two sim cards wasn't satisfying enough I like the phone enough to jump off big red to try T-Mobile. I honestly like this phone better then my Pixel XL

I ditched my Verizon unlimited data plan for cricket unlimited and have no regrets. Best choice I ever made

Can you explain in detail exactly how you got this to work? I am dying to get this phone I had 1+1 when first realeased and left Verizon to get it, but now Im back on Verizon with my business phone and want this phone nothing else is close to this phone

It won't work it's one or the other. You are wasting your time

The city I live In has Verizon's xlte network and if you upgrade to advanced Calling then voice calls and messages all use 4g LTE data instead of CDMA, so I would only need LTE data to work, I was able to get the 1+1 to get Verizon's signal but after 5 mins they noticed and intentionally blocked me off their Network a message popped up on the 1+1 saying I had been blocked

You have to add VoLTE on the phone AND with the carrier. you did both of these options, and t hen were blocked? Did you ever call and ask "why?"?

Just curious how you have "LTE" activated on the phone. I turned on "only LTE", but I get absolutely nothing. I am only interested in LTE on t he phone, I do not need to make voice calls of SMS

Force LTE provisioning
I know that people had the same issue on the ZTE axon 7 but we're able to force LTE provisioning by going into the dialer and dialing *#*#4636#*#*. This brings up a hidden test menu and under phone information there is a switch for LTE provisioning. It takes a few tries but eventually sticks on the axon. Can someone try this on the one plus phones to see if it works?

I know this has been rehashed many times, but I thought I'd share a my experiences of how to make the 3T usable on Verizon. Main reason I have the 3T is dual SIM and OEM bootloader unlock. Fantastic device. Switched from Verizon to AT&T just for the phone. The problem is my work uses Verizon. I refuse to carry two phones. So what I've done to solve this is bought the GravityBox app, which has a feature that allows, (among many things!) you to add a custom quick setting shortcut for Network Mode. It lets you decide which SIM the setting applies to, as well as any network modes to cycle through when pressing the shortcut. I of course pick the Verizon SIM. And only select two network modes: 1 CDMA only and 2 LTE only. CDMA only allows calls,text and 2G to work perfectly. When a sending or receiving a MMS on Verizon SIM, or needing to use Verizon LTE, I toggle to Verizon LTE only. This does kick AT&T offline for some reason, but beings that I rarely need to use Verizon data, it's not that big of deal.

Will a Verizon X work on T-mobile?

I am ready for a new phone, but would like to be done with Verizon once they take away my unlimited plan. I read a few posts where it is said that the cdma phones would work on T-Mobile, the carrier I will be going to next. Can anyone confirm or deny the ability to use on both networks?

Yes a Verizon Moto X will work on T-Mobile as it is SIM unlocked and supports band 4 LTE. It should be noted that it doesn't support AWS 3G which is the main band T-Mobile uses for their 3G service. If you are in a refarmed market then they will also offer 3G service on the PCS band which the Verizon Moto X does support. Most major cities are refarmed so as long as you are okay with the risk of ending up on 2G more often then you would on a T-Mobile Moto X then you should be okay. From my understanding T-Mobile is working on having almost all of their 3G service on the PCS band in order to free up AWS spectrum for LTE so this issue should become less of an issue over time.
With kit Kat on my vzw x, when I put my T-Mobile Sim in, I must manually enter T-Mobile APN settings to get working data and SMS. I haven't tried MMS.
With 4.2.2 Roms (version that the phone came with plus camera ota) APN settings came down automatically.
I get h+ in refarmed area.

It supports both. I've confirmed this with a T-Mobile SIM card and is also stated on the Verizon dev page.

Wow, that's interesting. Also interesting that the top section specifically references Band 4, yet the actual spectrum is not called out in the technical section below.

Most of the upper level Verizon LTE phones released this year save the HTC One support band 4 either out of the box or will get a software update for it. Verizon is supposed to be making a big push over the next few months to add band 4 LTE service which is much needed here in Houston as our band 13 LTE service is so overloaded that sometimes I am lucky to top 3-4mbps.
Quite possible that Band 4 support was added in one of the updates that was pushed out, so most documentation wouldn't reference it. Best place to check would be the FCC docs when they tested the phone.

I put a T-mobile SIM in my stock 16GB Verizon Moto x. Here is what works and doesn't.
First off, 4G works! in the South Jersey area and it is Blistering fast, I have exceeded 40MB speed test downloads twice, Several in the high 30s and I am avg in mid 20s. Uploads are averaging 20+/- . Compared to Verizon this is like comparing Fios to 1999 era dial up. the best I ever got on Verizon 4G was 14 download but average between 4 and 9 !
The Network notification switches a lot between 4G, "H" mode, whatever that is, just bars and another which I didn't catch quick enough to read ?
Battery has been amazing compared to my galaxy Nexus, I got 7.5 hours of Actual "Screen on Time" which included some GPS use and an hour of music streaming total phone up time was 34+ hours. How long it will perform like this is anyone's guess, today i got about 6.5 of Screen on time. I hope this inst a trend
Now for the bad news - Using it as a Phone. Incoming calls are fine but, making outgoing is a Pain in the A$$.
When I dial a number, (which is a hassle on this KitKat dialer) it often goes to the home screen or back to the dialer. The Call Fails. I am not sure if my dialer is buggy or its a compatibility problem. the KitKat Dialer on the Moto X is an exorcise in futility. Google are you listening? Why reinvent the wheel. All I want in my Dialer is a Number Pad! and a phone book.
When I Open dialer I see Recent calls up top, the whole middle section says all contacts and is otherwise blank, the bottom has the number pad icon, History and settings dots.
Clicking the number pad icon enlarges the bottom section, which then goes all white and removes the three icons. I have to then click the back arrow and re-click the number pad icon to bring it up the actual dialer. .
At this time I can dial. and then the call always fails on the first attempt. Sometimes it takes several attempts to go through.
When I click send on the dialer the 4G disappears and I am left with just the bars. they come back when call is done but sometimes take a few minutes to do so.
If you Kill the dialer app or swipe it away, coming back to it you will have the same issues when trying to get the number pad (two attempts) if you dont, the number pad will open on first attempt. but the calls will still fail on the first try.
I also cant use the internet when in a call, whether WiFi is on or off. Is this a T-mobile problem? I could use the net in Verizon when in a call when on 4G or WiFi
The Data is set to global mode but I have tried both the other settings. On boot up I get a warning saying the SIM is not recognized which I just swipe away.
I am also having this problem. After making a call, the music player and the phones "volume" aspects cease to work., Meaning, I get no sound out of the phone, Music, notifications alarms etc.. This happens almost every time and the only fix is a reboot
I disabled all Verizon Bloat and a lot of Moto Bloat as well This could be causing some of the bugs? But i have tested several different configurations all with the same outcomes.
Hope this helps and puts an end to the - Will it work or not questions. There seem to be a lot of Net Know it all's that flat out say a Verizon Moto x wont work with a T-Mobile SIM or some other undocumented "fact"

im from india i got moto x navy blue customized but device wont get signal dont know whats wrong tried to reset still no luck even getting the signal but instantly disappears and showing emergency only
So, I have a Verizon Moto X and popped in my T-Mobile sim card today and LTE popped up after a few seconds (I live in Boston). My LTE speeds on the internet worked instantly. However, I tried to send a text message and it wouldn't send. Not sure if I need to do anything else to get voice/text to work fine. Any ideas?

I just popped in the T-Mo sim card again and now text works no issues and calls. Not sure what happened, but oh well.
Now, is there any difference in me using a Verizon Moto X on T-Mobile compared to an AT&T Moto X on T-Mobile. I have both and have been using an AT&T one, but I am just curious.

http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-2090 <- That should have everything you need as far as the APN goes.

no because the sprint x is sim locked and doesn't use the same cdma setup, and the t-mobile doesn't support cdma/evdo that verizon uses for voice and 3g data

Simultaneous Voice & Data on VZW

I've seen the news that simultaneous voice and data doesn't work on the N6 on Verizon out of the box. Curious what people think the chances are that it will work at some point without the need to root and unlock?
They have gone to using just one antenna as is the same for the Droid Turbo. VOLTE should be coming to the N6 in the near future.

Rooting/unlocking will have no impact on this. It, like all new Verizon devices, requires "Advance Calling 1.0" which Verizon hasn't pushed to any new devices at this point. Assuming Verizon supports the device then it will get the update at some point.
Assuming the phone is made available from Verizon directly I can see simultaneous voice and data being available. I should have been more clear about my question applying to phones bought from Google or Motorola directly.

Iphone 6 and 6 Plus has it. I just switched to Verizon from Tmo and got 3 devices, 2x iPhone 6+ and Droid Turbo. Now, Turbo I had to get as that line is for business, but it will be sold for a Nexus 6. Tmobile definitely had better voice quality and I was always iffy about going to a CDMA carrier as I used to work and knew a lot about CDMA for Sprint. However, fact that they pretty much have their entire network covered with LTE made me decide to try.
Point is, with Advanced Calling 1.0 you can definitely tell the voice quality difference and using LTE while being on the phone is nice, same way it was on T-Mobile... The fact that Droid Turbo doesn't have this and is one of the premier Verizon Devices saddens me...

do you happen to know if turning off the advanced calling 1.0 on the phone will disable the simultaneous voice/data?
i was reading some wiggy things (in verizon's faq, no less) about needing to turn off the adv calling if you're going to be bouncing between LTE & 3G or its going to to drop calls. but my partner makes a ton of calls during her (SF to sacramento) commute when she needs to have data to look at.
if its just the VoLTE you can turn off, that would be great; but if it's the whole package... well, that's going to be a problem.
I am very curious about how this will work in practice as well, to the point where I may not upgrade until volte has been live for a few weeks. I have grown used to just knowing voice and data works...I am worried volte isn't going to work very well.
I'm wondering what is going to work with an unlocked Nexus 6 on Verizon. 3G? XLTE? visual voice mail? my Verizon? Asurion insurance?

Hi, sorry for late reply. But yes, it will. I got an email from Verizon as well as text telling me how to enable it. And I do see a difference in voice quality when Data+Voice is enabled. It is done via Settings - Cellular and then switch it away from Data only. I drove out while on the phone last night and I managed to lose LTE signal, my call didn't disconnect. However, I did notice odd things with it still. One time my phone went to 1x while in my pocket in a good LTE coverage area. When I took it out and saw 1x I immediately got a Voice Mail notification... I never got a call though.
the only thing making me want to return my Nexus 6 is that I can't simultaneously use data and voice on Verizon.

He has an iPhone 6 or 6+ which already supports Advanced Calling 1.0. The Nexus 6 doesn't. Yet at least.
Just for some clarity, Advanced Calling 1.0 and XLTE are Verizon marketing buzzwords for VoLTE and AWS respectively.
You can't do simultaneous voice and data on this device, or some other recent devices because there is only one antenna for both CDMA and LTE, while many previous devices had one for each.
Once you get Advanced Calling 1.0 on your account and device, the CDMA chip is not used and both voice and data go over LTE. Since VoLTE is just another type of transmitted data over LTE, it can do both.
Advanced Calling 1.0 on Verizon WILL drop if you leave LTE coverage as Verizon does not have any way to hand down from LTE to CDMA gracefully. This is different from TMobile and AT&T who can hand down to their HSPA networks. If you had a call going and it didn't drop when you lost LTE, it wasn't a VoLTE call in the first place. It's possible either the call started on 3G, the option wasn't enabled on your phone, or the option wasn't enabled on your account. I'm sorry if I sound patronizing, but Verizon's VoLTE is completely incapable of keeping a call going if you drop from LTE.
Finally, XLTE is just Verizon's term for the extra 10x10 or 20x20MHz of high frequency AWS spectrum they acquired. It's not a new type of LTE, but might as well be because the real world speeds are so much better than the normal low frequency 700MHz band of their original LTE, mostly due to fewer users, more bandwidth, and cleaner RF at the high frequency.
There's no XLTE "chip" as much as looking in the LTE band support and checking for band 4. 700MHz Verizon LTE is band 13, and they will soon start deploying more LTE on band 2. It's a matter of antenna tuning and modem support mostly.

Exactly what he said. And trust me, it isn't as good as what T-Mobile uses.
Let me ask you this, do you think T-Mobile is overall a better network in Metro areas? I loved my service on T-Mobile... From fast data speeds to very clear voice, amazing! Switching to verizon was a nightmare. Even on VOLTE it isn't very clear, calls do drop and I am getting low speeds or regular 3g in places T-Mobile had LTE in Atlanta. I do know that rural coverage and indoor is better on Verizon, but my experience has been bad.
Any updates? Royally pisseddd I can't do voice n data like I can on my lg g3. Fill like I stepped back in time and att tmo mocking vzw all over again for no voice n data

How to get Simultaneous Voice and Data to work on Nexus 6
After updating your Nexus 6 to Android 5.1, you will find a setting hidden inside a Phone Settings menu that allows you to enable VoLTE and then an “Enhanced 4G LTE Mode.” With both of these options toggled on, you can then make calls and “surf the web.” Glory!
In order to enable the setting on your phone, head into the dialer and type in *#*#4636#*#*. When you hit that last *, your phone will jump into the hidden settings menu. Choose “Phone info” and then scroll down until you see an option for “TURN ON VOLTE PROVISIONED FLAG.” Tap that and then reboot your phone (I had to reboot twice for some reason to get it to work). Once booted, head into your phone’s regular settings menu, tap on “More” under “Wireless & networks,” then “Cellular networks.” You should now see an option for “Enhanced 4G LTE Mode” and it should be toggled on.
Note: There is a chance that you may need HD Voice added to your Verizon account. To do that, you will need to sign-in to your Verizon account and add the feature, which is free.
Go ahead and place a call with WiFi off and see if you can access a web page or an app that uses data. All good? In order to keep this functionality, you will need to leave Enhanced 4G LTE Mode turned on.
Hi.... noticed this thread hasn't been active for awhile. Just wanted to confirm that I did this today with my Nexus 6, and everything worked fine. Had to have HD Voice put on my line for free, and had to reboot. But definitely have simultaneous voice/data now.
I just did this on my Nexus 6. Works great so far. Was able to make a call and browse several web pages at the same time. Awesome info thank you!

Help on getting phone working on straight talk.

Long story short. I was using a Verizon branded note 2 on straight talk when my contract ended with verizon. I grew tired of the phone and purchased the blu vivo xl from amazon a few days ago. Now I know that my sim in my Verizon wouldn't work on the blu phone because it's not compatible.
So I went on chat to switch my Verizon sim to an att sim from the same byop package (which also came with a tmobile sim) They said that it could take anywhere from an hour to 2 days to convert over, and that I'll know when it happens because my note 2 will stop working. Sure enough it stopped and a bit later my blu phone started getting a signal and 4G icon.
However, it was in and out all night and since then I haven't got it back. Frustrated, I then switched it to the tmobile sim. I get the 4G lte icon and arrows move up and down. My signal goes from 2/4 bars to 3/4 bars. Now I'm thinking good that's more than what att was able to do. Wrong. Well not completely.
I can send a text and my wife will get it. Not really slow but not normal. She'll reply and I can receive it. But I can't access the internet, and I can't call or receive calls. Went on chat they gave me apns to input and still nothing. I still get 4G icon and I still get service.
I really like this phone but this transition has been really draining.

I have no idea, I had a really smooth transition activating it onto metro. Maybe you just have spotty coverage with straight talk in your area? I'll try looking for more info

Long story short. I was using a Verizon branded note 2 on straight talk when my contract ended with verizon. I grew tired of the phone and purchased the blu vivo xl from amazon a few days ago. Now I know that my sim in my Verizon wouldn't work on the blu phone because it's not compatible.
So I went on chat to switch my Verizon sim to an att sim from the same byop package (which also came with a tmobile sim) They said that it could take anywhere from an hour to 2 days to convert over, and that I'll know when it happens because my note 2 will stop working. Sure enough it stopped and a bit later my blu phone started getting a signal and 4G icon.
However, it was in and out all night and since then I haven't got it back. Frustrated, I then switched it to the tmobile sim. I get the 4G lte icon and arrows move up and down. My signal goes from 2/4 bars to 3/4 bars. Now I'm thinking good that's more than what att was able to do. Wrong. Well not completely.
I can send a text and my wife will get it. Not really slow but not normal. She'll reply and I can receive it. But I can't access the internet, and I can't call or receive calls. Went on chat they gave me apns to input and still nothing. I still get 4G icon and I still get service.
I really like this phone but this transition has been really draining.

Correct. The phone is loaded with apns that matched what they gave me. The straight talk for att and tmobile.
So as an update, I bought a tmobile sim, (not straight talk this time) the phone received texts from tmobile for this and that. StraightTalk is owned and operated by Tracfone. I went through more blood pressure pills dealing with them than almost any other corporation. Best bet? Switch to almost any other carrier. I use Airvoice, but there are a BUNCH of others out there with no contract, pay-as-you-go programs. Truly, there are better deals out there than StraightTalk/Tracfone.
You are having issues (I think) because different phones available through Straight Talk work on different networks. They ask for your zip code and then show you phones from different networks that will work in your area. If you use a SIM card you are AT&T or T-Mobile. Sprint and Verizon use CDMA. Check coverage maps. This will explain why your coverage is spotty now. There is a list floating around out there that shows which networks use what phones and so on for Straight Talk. Once you put the SIM card in the phone, it picks up whatever network is available in your area. If it's a network that doesn't have great coverage where you are, service is diminished.

USA Carrier Test[Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, Google Fi]

First of all I want to say that every test I have done was done for a period of 3 days with each of these carriers. The test involved taking the cell phone to the city(Raleigh, NC) to a more rural area(literally anywhere not Raleigh) to test for signal strength differences, voice, and sms. Also, the phone I used is the North American model not the tencent model.
The reason I even did this is because I do not want let go of my Verizon SIM card(I still won't but there is a different reason why at the end)
OK so with that being said let's talk FUNCTIONALITY: ASUS(I have a screenshot of this) is telling me to read in between the lines and that they will push for VoLTE and VoWIFI with USA Carriers AFTER they shut down their 2g/3g Services. However right now VOLTE & VOWIFI DO NOT WORK WITH ANY CARRIER IN THE USA. The closest thing you can get to VOWIFI/VOLTE.
Verizon: Full 4G Support, Data speed and reliability FAR exceed that of AT&T or T-Mobile in RURAL areas of NC. VOICE CALLS AND TEXT MESSAGES DO NOT WORK ON VERIZON. If you absolutely need to stick to Verizon I have a functional work-around but it does take some time to set up(at the end of post)

Bonus from AT&T is you can actually make calls and text, but wait.... what about 100% Verizon?
IF you reached this spot it is because you want to know the ONLY currently FUNCTIONAL workaround for this problem with no VOLTE VOWIFI or Calls or texts. The solution is to set up call forwarding to a free google voice number from the my verizon app. While you are there, you may as well want to bookmark a webpage in chrome or your browser of choice for text messages. Verizon offers a free service where you can check your texts online. This was originally intended for looking at texts on your computer, but who said you can't use it on your phone?
However, I, cannot stand the idea of being in an emergency where the 4G signal from verizon is too low to make a google voice call, and that I NEED to call someone. Therefore what I am doing is the following: Setting up the Verizon workaround for forwarding calls to the google number, setting up the text message workaround on verizon, and STILL getting an emergency $10/mo AT&T MVNO plan that has unlimited text and calls(Good2go mobile).
other AT&T MVNO's charge way more for that feature by the way. I am usually always travelling, so the amount of times I will be without 4G LTE from any carrier(T-mobile, AT&T, or Verizon) is increased exponentially. I need that backup failsafe with the AT&T MVNO.
With that being said though, if you're wondering why I didn't mention google fi, it is because this sim card 100% did not work at all in this cell phone. I tried changing the APN's and everything else under the sun but it simply did not work. Big bummer since I was hoping this would be my next daily driver for a carrier.

Yes, didn't work
So this is all true for the international version, but not for the Tencent edition. Tencent version only supports bands 1-4 and pretty much nothing else. Those are the old school bands for AT&T and TMobile, so signal is ok but not great. Indoors TMobile is pretty bad with the Tencent phone, whereas I get fantastic signal with my OnePlus 7 pro in the same places on TMobile.
Damn shame, other than that the rog2 is better in every way and I'm going to miss it dearly but I've got a 1 year old and not having a cell signal at home or work is not an option.

So I have att and really would like to get this phone but concerned about any possible issues(for example no band 14 and 30) . Did you have any issues with service with att? I'm considering the rog, op7t or pixel 4. Any info you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

The Verizon idea sounds like a great workaround because you can also download the My Messages app at the play store and it works the same as the website. The only downside, and correct me if Im wrong would be when calling people they would see your google number and not your real cell number. Are there any other downsides, because im thinking even if going overseas you can use it like Vowifi because as long as you have some kind of connection via wifi or data you should get calls and texts via the app.

I'm considering this method as well. I'm a trucker, so network coverage is a deal breaker for which carrier I use, and no one comes close to Verizon. My big concern now is how 911 would work. I know I couldn't do it via Google Voice, but I'm wondering if the phone would default back to the phone radio and seek out a usable network. I know cell phones are required be able to make 911 calls from any available network in the U.S, even if not activated with a carrier. So would the phone make a 911 call via AT&T or TMO?
If I go through with it, I may do it a slightly different way. I have a spare line I could cancel. Instead, I may activate the ROG II to that one, then port my existing number to GV. That way I could use GV but as my current number. I figure that would be easiest on those with my contact info.
Its a dual sim phone. Why not have Verizon and a GSM MVPN? Straight talk has some call only plans for $20/month.

No, I had no real issues with AT&T, it's the reason I'm getting my 2nd sim to be an MVNO for this phone. 1 Carrier only AT&T is simply the best overall for this phone. If we say Verizon is 100% 4G LTE strength/reliabililty, then AT&T is like 90%, while AT&T is 60%. This is of course in more rural areas. In the city it matters not if you have AT&T or T-Mobile...

I'm afraid you can't use the app it just doesn't work I tried this... maybe it'll work for you though? Otherwise yes, they would get a call from another number(the google number) and they can call either your google number or verizon number and both will work. it's more of there so you don't inconvenience your contacts, but you should probably tell them you simply switched to (google number) and to just call/text there if you're sticking to verizon only, imo.
otherwise yes the app itself only needs data it doesnt matter if you grab data from ethernet(works), 4G, or wifi...

Technically speaking 911 SHOULD work, but I'm not about to get in trouble trying that one out LOL. I have a backup emergency cell phone line for those emergencies since I also, cannot stand not being able to have that option even if the chances are slim. I am also keeping Verizon because it simply has the strongest 4G signal of the USA carriers that I tested, however AT&T isn't too far behind it's definitely good, just not great. AT&T gets calls and texts by default too so theres that as well lol

I may consider this as well. I'll likely run it Verizon only with the work around and see how it goes before adding a second SIM.
As for 911, I think I may be able to contact a local 911 operator and see what info I can glean from them.

I mean I tried the app on the current phone I have with wifi calling off and airplane mode on, and had someone text me and I got it.
Hey, so I've tried everything I read online to forward my calls to Google voice. I have Verizon. I've tried both *72 and *73. I've made sure to not have any forwarding set up on GV so I'm not in an infinite forwarding loop. But no matter what, it seems the calls straight to GV voicemail. Is there something I'm missing? I've also tried it with my Verizon number linked and after I deleted it. Any help would be much appreciated. thank you

I called Verizon and had them forward my calls to my GV # and it works fine.

What app are you using for GV calls? Google Voice app doesn't ring for me...

Try restarting your phone. Sometimes GV gets buggy for some unknown reason. I also have Hangouts and Hangouts dialer downloaded so Google assistant can make calls when I ask. I believe GV can dial out through dialer as well.
And make sure to allow GV and any other calling app you're using to auto start in your phone settings.

VoLTE on At&t

So I spent an extensive amount of time about this whole VoLTE situation with this phone with both At&t and ASUS. My question is how do you know if you are actually utilizing the VoLTE connection?
I am able to make clear voice calls while browsing the internet or downloading an application. My speeds vary anywhere between 60 and 100 Mbps with no connectivity issues. The phone has no indicator of LTE connection but is constantly 4g++. Asus and at&t both stated that is the LTE connection. So I went into the phone settings via the image in this and it shows the VoLTE setting not toggled.
So the next question is, what indicator is there that this connection is NOT VoLTE other than this toggle? The speeds appear faster than Hspa+ but nobody I spoke to had the technological knowledge to be able to explain this. Also what speeds down and up is everyone else receiving?
From what I have read, this phone doesnt support VoLTE. And what worries me is that all the carriers are transitioning to VoLTE starting in 2020. Some are saying phone calls will no longer be possible on this phone. Which confuses me as it just released.
You can tell by making a voice call and seeing if the phone stays on 4G++ or drops to 2G/3G. I am 99% sure we will not get VoLTE on this phone. TMobile rep suggested tweeting TMobile on Twitter as the marketing team there might help, but I just don't care anymore. I'll stick with my pixel 2 xl for now.
Is ANOTHER thread on this necessary? Wtf? No volte. Not now, not ever. Get your money back. Asus are idiots for releasing this phone in us with no volte. 2020, no phone calls. Enjoy!

I know VoLTE is 100% possible on this phone, however not in the USA. It has something to do with the USA companies and At&t told me VoLTE is definitely a possibility as well as WiFi calling in the future but that has to be certified by the US companies. This phone supposedly works with WiFi calling as well as VoLTE in the European market as they don't have the same issues with the companies controlling the way it operates. I am moving to Norway on the 23rd but honestly the connection has been fantastic and I do like the phone quite a bit. During my phone calls I remained at 4g+ or ++ while surfing the web or watching Netflix with no issues during the call or the film itself.
I have messed around with it to see if there was anything that seemed off about it but so far it has worked just as well as My note 10+. Also the phone is operating on 4g so saying that it can't be used is silly. The 4g band will be around for quite some time while some companies like Verizon are removing 3g as it operates on the cdma versus gsm. At&t will continue 3g operations until 2022 and 4g will take years to completely phase out from 5g and by then another phone will replace the ROG 2.
I will however annotate how this phone operates on the European networks once I arrive. As per my previous post I can obtain 40mbps up to 100mbps which is definitely 4g speeds. 3g can not obtain those types of speeds. The bands available are key to the operating network for sure though. I think at&t seems to offer the best fit here in the USA.

I am currently using this phone with AT&T. So should I be good for calls through 2020 and 2021? Reason I ask is because I literally just got it a week ago, and then read this news about the whole VoLTE thing and was just devastated thinking I have to now find a way to sell it and find a new phone.
Also, since I got the phone, I am only ever on H+ for the signal. I thought it was LTE capable? I came over from Verizon, so the H+ was something new to me. I know I am in a LTE area. Do I need to do something to activate it?

Was this a ported number? When I went from Verizon to at&t there was an issue when I ported the same number back to at&t. They were able to get it resolved by calling Verizon having them refresh the port and then re initiating the LTE from their end. And that was with my Samsung. I did speak to at&t again today about the LTE and they may have to make sure your Sim is "LTE" and also making sure they unlock it on their end. Supposedly the LTE and volte have to be activated from them. Also ensure you have the appropriate APN setting as sometimes with unlocked phones those setting do not carry over.
And the phone should be working fine until a minimum of 2022 even with 3g or H

I did bring the number over from Verizon. I may have to go in to AT&T to resolve that from what you're saying then.
Dealing with the APN setting, I am good with tech, but this part has me a tad confused. What should I be looking for on the phone? I see under APN, it says AT&T is selected. There are other options like tracfone, but I assume its fine then if it has AT&T selected?

I tried those APN settings and it seems to not work. The signal bar still shows a signal, but there is no longer a H or H+ sign. Hmmm

That's interesting, but I would recommend going to at&t and confirming that LTE is good to go on your phone. They can also verify nothing is stuck in the system and your appropriate APN settings
