Quick Review Lineage 14.1 by Meticulus - Huawei P9 Lite Guides, News, & Discussion

Lineage 14.1 by Meticulus
As of today February 12 XDA Developer Meticulus released his fifth alpha version of Lineage 14.1 based on Google's Nougat 7.1.1 mobile operating system.
For an alpha this version of the OS is very stable with only a few drawbacks namely no
WIFI Hotspot
USB Tethering
Bluetooth Tethering
SELinux
I am running this as my daily driver since the first iteration of his (Meticulus) ROM and find it more stable as the available beta version of Huawei's own Nougat based Emui 5.0. As of February 12 Live display has been fixed and doesn't lag the UI anymore, even though I personally never had this issue. My phone is the L-31 version with 3gb of RAM fyi.
Battery live is as good as it gets. I am getting a day and a half with moderate use out of it what is amazing considering I got barely a full day with minimal use out of Huawei's unmodified stock firmware. Being not bogged down by all the bells and whistles that come with Emui 4.1 does wonders.
Out of the gate Lineage is as bare bone as it gets and a dream for every theme artist out there. As always with Custom Roms that come without the usual Google apps
http://opengapps.org is your friend. Meticulus recommended the nano version if you like to flash dirty, saying that I am running Lineage fully modified as a Google Pixel Phone and had no problem updating to his most recent build.
Speed is great, using my phone to play games like Lord of the Fallen, Fire Emblem, Various Emulators is a pure pleasure. Internet is fast and responsive. Phone calls and texting work as should. (Does report a very weak signal where I had full "lines" normally, but Meticulus stated on his webpage that this might be only reported back wrong to the system and not actually be an issue.) RAM management is great especially compared to the stock OS from Huawei. Camera is still slightly bugged as some users have issue with snap apps. The camera app provide with the last update works reliable enough, but can force close from time to time if overused.Picture quality is fine for my day to day use, put I didn't compare the Huawei stock picture quality with Meticulus build one. I found the open camera app from the play store slightly more reliable. All issues aside this is great work from Meticulus who has provided us with another great custom build ROM for the P9 lite.

Where did you get your themes sir?

Never used dual sim, have a 128gb Mem stick in it. Also not using any theme is stock Pixel launcher with Pixel icons installed via open Gapps, used aroma installer to get everything done, was quite tricky as the installer is heavily bugged under Meticulus TWRP ...

He had some kind of rage or something, he was mad and putted down some stuff, because people was constantly asking him something, I don't remember what... There was a discussion about this

Dont you have to donate to him to get the download? Dont need devs like this here really. (its even against the rules of xda) Did he change something?

Yup, I did that. Went back to stock ROM for a while but wanted to go back to Lineage today, only to find he deleted everything. I really hope someone else will pick up his work. Someone without a superiority complex.

Meticulus raged because people kept asking him the same thing over and over again. His work was send everywhere else without his permission.
The whole thing with "donation" was an optional thing.
It was like: Hey! Want me to update or work at X rom for Y phone? Donation please."
Meticulus was indeed a bit "childish". I could at least help him with the roms (anti distribution and so on.)

I think that,
If you make it for yourself, then you share. Donation is welcomed.
If s.o akes you to do s.t, then you ask for rewarding sooner or later or just stop it.
S.o had paid him the downloaded rom then got it. They have no point to ask for more roms as they only paid for what they got. It is obviously.

[ROM] CM13.0 for ZTE Axon Elite A2015 - Compatible with A2016?

I have discovered chinese developers are working on CM13.0 for A2015 version.
http://www.myzte.cn/thread-263527-1-1.html
It's needed to register on the chinese forum for getting the download link, but I have already downloaded and uploaded it to MEGA.
https://mega.nz/#!PwJS0QpZ!SphrqNpypkaPG86oJ_RoBxuIvFRnQy38LRHk9GymSwk
Can anyone try if it works on A2016? I bought it some days ago, so I'm waiting for it and I can't try it yet.
Facts about this rom vs. stock rom I could read from chinese people:
- Overheat
- No google services
- No fingerprint
- Better battery performance
- Faster
- Very slow boot
- Worst mobile coverage
- Works with Xposed
The version is only for the A2015, said in post #198 (http://www.myzte.cn/forum.php?mod=redirect&goto=findpost&ptid=263527&pid=3289532)
"Please don't install this ROM in AXON ELITE devices. it's only for AXON A2015. "

So what's the difference between A2015 and A2016?
If there're no hardware differences, it wouldn't be difficult to make a port of this rom for A2016, right?

It shouldn´t be, as there are no dramatic hardware differences as far as I know. Unfortunately my knowledge in porting ROMs is almost non-existent.
I´d be grateful if a more experienced dev could investigate.
Just to give you all an answer - no its not compatible. I've made full backup in TWRP, then wiped all partitions and made an clean install then rebooted.
It stayed on ZTE bootloader screen for 15 minutes and it didn't booted. So not even passing the bootloader screen.
Full restore of stock ROM was only possible after first wiping all of the partitions, then rebooting, restoring the stock ROM and even then the stock ROM didn't wanted to boot. After going into the Factory reset mode (not resetting, just getting into with Volume low button and power) I was able to power off the phone, then start it and then it finally booted back to previously restored Stock ROM.
This was done on A2016 Elite model.

It would definitely awesome having CM13 on this phone since the hardware is absolutely awesome considering the price tag. I have purchased this device from gearbest a few days ago for about 180 bucks. IMHO quite insane for QCOM MSM8994, 1080p, metal build etc.
Too bad ZTE isn't eager to provide proper community support...
My LG G4 shortly died (bootloop issue) after the alarm rang, waking me for work....still fulfilled its last duty... Lol

I have saw some Russian people are now working on our A2016 version.
It seems we'll have some scene
I've found a way to boot and run Chinese CM13 for A2015 correctly on our A2016.
There is no fingerprint support! NFC have problems and you can't change lockscreen settings (use external lockscreen app works fine).
Dual SIM is supported, WiFi, Caliing, Data, Sound, Camera - everything works fine. Need to sort few thing out and check the bugs if there are A2016 dependend or CM bug, since this is unofficial ROM.
For the record - I'm not building CM13 myself, just made CM13 A2015 bootable on A2016 using some special files.
In couple of days, I'll upload the needed files for you guys, so that you can also use it.
AnTuTu gives 79k on CM13.
Greetings
BM

Sounds the same issues than I got when installing Chinese marshmallow rom on A2016, but I didn't test NFC. Does it have same issue also that when trying to enable password/pin protection in security options, settings will force close?

Yes, correctly. The same issues. Can't tell if this is device firmware problem or ROM.
Is it possible to use the fingerprint and NFC files from the official A2016 Android 5.0 Firmware and port them to Android M? Like with the radio file (NON-HLOS.bin).

Sorry, didn't tested that. I'm also back on stock, since the CM13 had few bugs. Can't recommend it as daily driver. With the time, the ROM become laggy and simple games started to stutter.

How is to use this rom, does it have any major issue? I'm interested in using pure android over the disgusting custom layer of ZTE. Thank you!

Looking to Flash CyanogenMod 12.1 to MotoX XT1053

Device Specs
XT1053 Dev. Edition
Android 5.1 222.27.5.ghost.row.Retail.en.US
Bootloader Unlocked
TWRP 2.8.6
I’m currently interested in upgrading to CyanogenMod 12.1 This is my first time showing interest in replacing stock Android firmware to an aftermarket firmware thus I’ve been doing a lot of reading. Nevertheless with that comes a lot of question.
So far I know that the CM branch for MotoX is not officially supported by CM. As stated over at https://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Ghost_Info under “Additional Info / Downloads”
Because of this I would like to see/read user experiences/success stories about CM12.1 successfully running on XT1053. Do you mind sharing your experience with here with me? Or pointing me to an existing thread with standing on this topic? Thanks
The are some videos on YouTube but it is the usual electronic music & just swiping around, or the self-promotion video. Whatever happened with actual technical reviews? I'm interesting in knowing what aspects of the phone are working & which are not working.
Recovery Image
I've TWRP already installed. Do you recommend installing the CM provided recovery image? If I am misunderstanding what the CM "recovery image" is, please correct me. Thanks
I found a forum post talking about issues during the flashing of CM12.1 via TWRP yet when I visit the issues area under the CM MotoX Wiki there are none reported/listed.
I don’t even see a section pointing out the features CM will bring to said device and which will not carried over from the Motorola experience, if any.
Official Google Apps
My understanding is that the Google Apps are not included with CM. That I must get the package from http://opengapps.org/?api=5.1&variant=nano
What are the stock applications included with CM? Can you provide me in this area? Thanks
CM Account?
I read somewhere about one must create a CM account much like one creates a google account for android. Is this true? Where can I find more info about this.
Stragefright
Would CM12.1 include all the fixes to the known stagefright bugs?
Going back to Official Android 5.1 Release
In the case I'm not happy with CM12.1, would I be able to reflash the official Android 5.1 222.27.5.ghost.row.Retail.en.US ? What would the steps be?
Thank you for your help. ^_^
** you dont need CM account
***** The step for back to stock flashable is the same, wipe cache, dalvik, data, system
**** CM doesnt contain any aplications from stock. You can find the camera but dont work like stock, but work
***** I will recommended you use twrp as recovery, and maybe update to 2.8.7.0.

Thank you for your reply.
I did update to TWRP to v2.8.7. Flashing CM12.1 plus GApps. went smooth.
After installing CM12.1 I selecting the "read more" [or the like link] under the Create CM Account panel took me directly to a page saying that CM accounts are no more lol.
Camera
The stock CM camera is not bad but I've fallen for Open Camera [Play Store] which is surprisingly good & packed with features. To make it even better, CM12 does allow you to replace default camera. Furthermore, this works with the twist twice gesture to access the camera. Just beautiful.
The only major issue I have is with "More" under Settings/More. Every time I select it the settings app crashes. I've wiped cache & dalvik but nada. I even reinstalled CM12.1 & still nada.

Looking for an Oreo ROM like PureNexus... Which Oreo ROM is the cleanest?

Looking for an Oreo ROM to try that gets decent support from the Dev but that is clean like PureNexus. I'm still running PureNexus 7.1.2, I've tried several ROMs and they do not have that clean Android look or feel.
Thoughts?

HAHAHAHAHA! OMG I feel like such an idiot... Caosp IS CleanAOSP!
I tried Clean AOSP a while ago and thought it was nice but I wasn't ready to move off my 7.1.2 and loose xposed yet. Then when I decided I wanted to go to Oreo, I skipped over Clean AOSP because I figured if I went Oreo, I wanted 8.1 and I thought the newest Clean AOSP was the 8.0.0 one that was labeled cleanaosp-8.0-2017.....
Jesus...
MartinN6, this is exactly what I was looking for BTW!
Thank you!
*Edit*
AND I did not know Xposed was out for 8.0/8.1 either until RIGHT now... I was just going to go to 8.1 and loose it but then I happened to look to the left of this window an I see an XDA Features Jan 08, Xposed released for 8.0/8.1! Can you tell I'm a little out of the loop here!

Xposed for Oreo is a beta with known bugs. I suggest that you start without it, so that you can evaluate the rom fairly. Once you know what to expect from the rom, then you can add Xposed.

Next your going to tell me that I could do the same thing to switch the round icons in 7.1.2 to square....
I HATED when they switched to circles, now I'm used to it. I ummm, I did not realize that was a feature you could just change in Android. I remember back (Samsung S2/S3) when it required like an icon pack and theme LOL!
So far so good, exactly what I wanted AND this is the first time Google Pay has worked for me in months. I had it working on 7.1.1 but could not get it working on 7.1.2...
Tried the theme but I don't notice any difference. I even paid the $1.99 for Andromeda. I will have to investigate more later.
Side note, what kernel are you runnning? This seems REALLY slow on the stock kernel compared to even stock 7.1.2... Any suggestions? Figured I would play with Franco Kernel later, I paid for his app.
Give Beltz a try as you're evaluating ROMs. It's in the Android Builder's Collective thread

I'm on Validus 8.1 for the nexus 6. Quite clean and very smooth. I've tried SIX ROM and AICP. Kind of a toss up between AICP and Validus. Six ROM isn't getting new builds I don't think but worked great. Just my opinion.

Hey, how do you like your Nephiboot kernel? I hadn't heard of that one and couldn't find anything in a search. Can you link me to some info?
Try Beltz... Best clean rom ever!
Toss up between nephilim and beltz. Both smooth and clean
Yeah I may have to give Beltz a try as I'm having an issue with Clean Aosp. I really like it I'm just having a lot of issues with it hanging up on me no matter what Colonel (voice to text fail that was supposed to say kernel) or no matter what configuration I use.
It literally feels like I'm running on a single-core that's throttled to like a couple hundred megahertz.
ABC for the N6 was just posted in the same thread as Beltz (linked earlier). I'm very happy with that.

Beltz ROM is stripped clean. Be ready to choose all your apps. Camera, messaging etc. However it gives you a lot of choices. No random reboots fast and smooth. Have not rooted yet! But I may do that in the next few days.

Thank you very much. I'm glad to do something, even if I do something easy for some dev's. But for me it's like bombing with a lot of new things. ?

Nice, glad there are still people making roms for our old and beloved M8
I love my RR but will surely give it a try tomorrow.
Edit: since my post is still last one, I'll just edit it.
Flashed it and played around with the settings and apps. Rom is smooth, no problems with it, fairly customisable. Pretty solid experience. Good medium between naked los and feature-rich customs.
Error 7 and doesn´t install the rom

Are you sure that your phone is a M8? Or is M8 dual sim?

Can someone compare the quality of the cam with sense rom and LineageOS rom. I think sense rom photos are better than LineageOS rom photos. Anyone ever compare the qulity before ?

Maybe your phone is old enough to be replaced, the NAND lifespan is coming to the end.

I already tried with the asserts but still happen the same, i will try to install other roms and if any other rom works jump to this one, i think maybe it´s a problem with the firmware i cannot find wich one is the lastest for verizon m8.

I'm not a Pro on this, but it might be the camera drivers / software. As far as I know the non Sense Roms don't use the HTC camera app and therefore don't support the "Ultrapixels". Try downloading the HTC camera app and check if you can get better results with it.

yes I used sense camera. But I feel like those pics are not as quality as sense rom photos. size is also smaller compared to sense rom photos. I think thats because android 7 roms doesn't support duel camera. And some manual options doesn't work. And flash doesn't turn on to focus at night shots. Thar's why I asked that someone had done a comparison of camera.

There was very good comparison between both, in los 14 thread or the unofficial one if I am not mistaken. And yeah I think u are right, on sense roms u can make better photos. Also duo camera works only on sense roms.
New build soon!

[Discussion] Dirty Unicorns DU 12 Hammerhead (8.1) [Development Hult]

DU just released first batch of official Oreo builds and Nexus 5 is lucky to be on 1st line as DU is first one from major custom ROMs league to release official Oreo for hammerhead after testing beta builds for months.
Since DU guys don't officially host/discuss on XDA I'm creating this thread as discussion thread for XDA DU enthusiasts to keep it organised and help each other, be inform this is no way official support thread.
All bug reports (with proper logs) and feature request should go to DU's JIRA
Create Account and Select Project as Android-8.x DU12
You are Not allowed to share any Direct Links regarding DU builds in this thread. (DU maintainers has asked for same in past so we should respect their decision and go to Official G+ for links)
Please follow above rules as Nexus 5 now has only handful of official Maintainers and we don't want to lose them due to mischief of few members.
A simple Google search will also give you,

Have you tried formatting to ext4? It was needed for RC builds. Not sure if its required for official build. Also what twrp version are you using?
I'm using it and it's really good. I switched over to ext4 on all my partitions a while ago so maybe that's the cause of the bootloop the above poster is experiencing.
I also wrote a guide for using it with NanoDroid: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=75835165&postcount=2692
Hi...

I have the same issue. I haven't tried any other camera apps though.
It flashed and booted fine for me, didn't have to do anything special. Used nano opengapps.
Battery life is great, best of the 8.1 ROMs I've tried. So far everything is smooth and works fine, except camera fc's. Easy enough to flash a working camera, which I did.
Very happy with this, and appreciate the maintainer for his work on hammerhead.
My Report :
Default Camera FCs (You can use Google camera with Magisk Mod to get HDR+ working ) (Already reported to DU team on Jira, You can add your logcat)
Video still feels shaky and unclear on Google camera
Overall Smooth and silk ROM with Handful of nice features. :good:
On comparison with Nougat..well it's still not as stable but hey it's just 1st release.
Just flashed this and my lord its fast and I lobe the boot animation 1st time I've used DU.
#staydirty
Well... just flashed this ROM. Oreo? Yeah!
But... There are some problems. The biggest one: bluetooth. I explore every angle of they posts on G+, official site, and download sections: nobody mention about bluetooth problems. I have a little headset, and now audio during calls is simply TERRIBLE. I know the issue is famous out there, but I hoped that a "stable" release of DU will not have this kind of bug... I can survive for some time, but if nothing will be fixed, I prefer go back to a "stable" Nougat...
Other problem? I had to change/override the camera app. I just found this and install it. Just delete any data of the app and cache, reboot if it doesn't work:

I actually really dislike that animation: too complex and not fully "fluid". Outro is REALLY long. I switched to a pixel boot animation

Hi...
There is new rc build. Will try to flash it later on when battery fully charge.

apkmirror has one that another thread recommended as the last Google camera that works well for N5, it's 3.2.045. No link, I just went to apkmirror and found it. That worked for me.
However, I just checked another camera I have now that's working, and it's 4.2.035, and I'm not sure where I got it from, maybe from another Oreo rom. apkmirror probably has that one, too.
New RC is up..Unfortunately clean flash is required as it's RC and not official release so Signature change:good:
Currently using Unlegacy 8.1 but it lacks quick charging. Does DU supports it?
Should I switch to DU or RR or DarkROM for best battery/performance?
