Cant write to storage via MTP (Or any other mode) from Windows 10 to OP3T - OnePlus 3T Questions & Answers

--- SOLVED see first post second page! ---
Hello XDA,
I am only able to read data on the phone when connected via USB on windows. On the phone itself I can change whatever I want ( Via ES-explorer for example) But in windows file explorer I can't. It will not tell me that I do not have proper writing rights, but instead just decides to freeze for 10 minutes everytime I try to make a file change, to eventually give me a beautiful
"windows explorer is not responding" pop-up
What I have tried :
-Rebooting,
-Reinstalling USB drivers,
-Switching USB debugging on and off,
-Reinstalling root,
-Installing the newest Oxygen OS update from February,
-used different cables (also an old micro USB with adapter) And nothing works.
This sucks because I was just trying to change my photography workflow from being Desktop based to being Android based..
Any suggestions ?
Greetings,
Thijs

i have the same problem be great to find a solution

Did you maybe noticed when this problem occurs to you? I know that one months ago it just did work. Should I reinstall Windows completely?

I've been talking to a few people and it's happening to them to on Windows 10 I think it's just a bug from a recent update try a roll back

How should one file a bug-report for windows 10 then, this can't be something that shouldn't keep unnoticed by them.
Did rolling back fix something for you, and how did you do so?

I've checked another Windows 10 computer which hasn't been updated and it recognises my one plus 3T so if you Google / YouTube windows 10 roll back it should work

Hmm this does suck. This means I cant be up to date on windows for now. Anybody have different suggestions?

The only other thing I could suggest is using a virtual machine to run win 7

Did you try back usb ports?. My pc with windows 10 fails with the front ports.

Solution
Backup all the data in your internal memory and try the 'format data' option from twrp to wipe your internal storage. It could solve your problem, as it did in my case.

New solution, just done works!
Plug in your phone and on the computer go to device manager (have phone in MTP mode)
you'll find the phone as a unknowen device
right click on this select "update driver software..."
a window will pop up select "browse my computer for driver softaware"
then on the next bit select "let me pick from a list of device drivers on my comupter"
then you will have a box with "MTP Device" and "MTP USB device"
select "MTP USB device" hit next and it should work 100%

Which version of TWRP are you running? The thing is that If I afterward can't restore the data via USB haha, then the whole point of backing it up seems invalid

This solution did not work for me. I am using W7 and OOS 5.0.3 rooted. Tried updating MTP drivers in W7, the phone shows up but no data shows in the drive. Still looking for a solution. Can someone please post W7 drivers that work for them? Thank you.

I doubt there's much we can suggest that you haven't already tried. Try another cable/USB Port/uninstall device from Device Manager and let Windows find the driver. Hell, you probably did all that already.

[SOLVED] Can't mound SD card from G1 to computer

I am unable to mount my SD card when it is in my G1 and connected to my computer. I used to be able to before I upgraded to Windows 7. I am using JacHero 2.7.1 with the latest USB drivers, fastboot and ADB both work. But when I connect my phone to my computer and choose to mount the card, nothing happens on my computer. In device manager, my G1 is still there under ADB Interface. However, the SD card is mounted as WPD File System Volume Driver with a little caution sign on the icon. When I view properties of the device, it says "The device cannot start. (Code 10)"
How can I get this to work? Its kinda annoying to have to turn off my phone, remove my fishbone case and go through all that just to put a picture on it.

You can always use adb push? Lol try uninstalling the usb storage devices and reinstalling them
well, the problem is USB Mass Storage doesn't even show up. And when I try to install newer drivers it says "Windows has concluded that your driver is up to date" and stuff like that. ADB push is a little slow for me lol
Uninstall whatever your SD Card is installed as, then restart your computer, replug in your phone and mount the SD Card and it should prompt that a new device was plugged in.

Ugh, I hate that... try manually updating drivers and see if you can get it to install the Mass Storage Device drivers from a list...
I tried that, there wasn't an option for USB Mass Storage, but there was one for SD Card in the pre-installed driver list, however when I selected that one I received an error. Just a note, that Android HTC Phone USB Device is listed under disk drives with no caution signs in the icon, however I am unable to get that one to work either. Could it possibly be Windows 7..?
AHAHAHHAHA YES I FIXED IT WOOO HOOOO!
Okay, so what I did was go into the development settings and UNcheck USB debugging. The moment I did that, my computer made the "new hardware sound" and then said "driver install successful" and when I clicked on it to see the driver, the driver was "USB Mass Storage Device". Now I can mount it WOOHOO!
Thanks you guys for all the help
edit:
With USB debugging reenabled, it stops working again, so I gotta turn it off everytime I wanna mount... ah well
That sucks, I have mine permanently on cuz I use ADB so much (Also using Windows 7 here) And everything detected perfectly. Well good job on finding a workaround.

Okay because of a great guy from a microsoft website forumboard I was able to fix this with the below fix.
Thank you (Patricio16)
If still doesnt work try this:
1. My Computer -> Properties -> Advanced System Settings. This takes you into the system properties like in XP. Go into Environment variables and create a new System varable called devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices (I don't think it's case sensitive). Set this to a value of 1.
2. Go into device manager. From the view menu, choose "show hidden devices". Because of the environment variable, you now see all devices not in use.
3. Uninstall any "Universal Serial Bus controllers" not in use (greyed out). Also I uninstalled any storage volumes, storage volume shadow copies, and disk drives also not in use. You should see your offending USB device in one of these areas.
4. STILL DIDNT WORK!! Then:
4.1 Make sure your cellphone detects and see the content of the card. Then, right click MY COMPUTER - Choose Disk Mngmt- Look for the storage device in trouble (you will see that it doesnt have an assigned letter yet) - Add a letter to it - Check and you'll see the drive. (Edit)rocxylemmon- remove the WPD by uninstalling it if it does not go away on it's own then recheck for any new devices and it will change to the drive letter you assigned it too.

trouble with ADB

I've been following mrkite38's nice guide here:

I understand it completely, and have done similiar operations before. However I cannot get my phone to popup in device manager in any form. I here the bell that tells you a device has been connected, but nothing ever shows up, no notification, nothing.
Any ideas? thanks guys

I got it to work on win 7 64 bit. It was a pain, actually I only got it to work on my laptop and not my desktop both with win 7 64 bit.
So normally when you plug in the android phone, 2 things pop up in device manager as Android phone, however one of them always trys to load a driver of a disk drive (probably set up to transfer stuff) however whenever that device is enabled with the driver adb wont work. So what I had to do was, especially b/c win 7 is a bit odd for automatically installing any driver it want with out input from up I had to disable that.
Start run gpedit.msc
in there go to Admin Templates > system > Driver installation > Driver instillation restriction. Enable both "Allow admin to override device installation restriction policies" and "Prevent installation of devices not described by other policy settings"
Ok after doing that you want to get rid of the drivers it tried to put in, so in device manager uninstall them, also download and run usbdeview, and remove the HTC drivers from there too. Might have to restart?
Now the drivers i used for adb was from proxoid, there are 32 bit and 64-bit versions there for you and it seemed to work
So d/l that, plug you phone in and in device manager manually set the drivers, you know right click deceive, update drivers, let me choose, choose form list, have disk etc.
Now the only pain with this method is that when you plug in another device, you have to go to device manager and install the driver from there either by using windos update or manually. If you take off those policies we changed earlier, windows in its great wisdom will reinstall non-working drivers.
Like i said worked on 1 comp not the other.
Good luck.

ADB Device Not Found

ADB was working perfectly fine until this morning. Now it says Device Not Found. Any suggestions on how I can get it working again? Thanks in advance.
Bump. Anyone know?
Does fastboot work then?
Are you on windows? window 7?
Try every USB port on your computer, my win7 machine will only recognise my device through one usb port.

Windows 7. Fastboot works just fine. Never had this problem before. My Nexus shows up as connected and working in Windows Device Manager. WTF is going on? Frustrating.
Tried all USB ports. All of them recognize the device, but "adb remount" returns: "error: device not found."

Yeah, thanks. I've had it checked. I've tried to adb remount on all 4 of my computers tonight and none of them are finding my device anymore. Might be time for a wipe and reflash. Anyone else have a suggestion before I commit to a wipe?
I guess I'm going to wipe and reflash.
1)make sure usb tethering is off.
2)maybe reinstall the latest driver from http://developer.android.com/sdk/win-usb.html ?
I just wiped and reflashed and still no dice. Might as well just go back to my nandroid backup and keep searching for answers.
I know this might be a little late, but I would like to post how I solved my problem. I too was experiencing this problem, no matter what USB Port I plugged my phone into, it just would not work. It kept saying "error: device not found." After searching on Google for a quite a while, I decided to again play around in device manager. I remember a long time ago, a client of mine had a problem with certain USB Devices not working, the solution was to go into Device Manager expand "Universal Serial Bus controllers" and right click each "USB Root Hub" and click "Uninstall."
This did the trick for me. After I hit the right USB Root Hub, my computer detected three new Android controllers that needed drivers: CDC, CDC Abstract, and Android Composite. I installed the downloaded Android drivers for the Android Composite and guess what, IT WORKS!
Hope this helps someone.

Unfortunately this didn't work for me. I tried uninstalling every single USB device/port/hub on two of my systems, then rebooting and letting it do its thing, then plugging in my Nexus and installing the ADB drivers. Still can't connect via ADB. This is a complete mess. No clue how/why this happened or what I can do to get it back.

try going into the device manager and removing the driver. Remove your phone from your computer then reconnect it. Upon the request to allow drivers to install, tell it you want to install from a specific location and point the driver installer to a known good copy of the ADB driver.

I9305 usb connection/driver problem

I've added a few apps to my S3 and altered a few things on my PC and now I can't connect via mtp or ptp. It goes through the usual "installing drivers" and then fails. I've tried pulling the battery and removing the sim and micro sd card then putting everything back. Tried it without the card (currently having to transfer files via a card reader so - at least the card's fine) but to no avail.
I've had a go at uninstalling the drivers through the device manager, rebooting and scanning for hardware changes. I've tried downloading the drivers without kies but it didnt work out (I cant remember the site or the url, but ended up with the following file SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones) It didn't auto install but even when I tried to point Windows to the folder on my C drive, nothing.
I've spent a couple of hours trawling the net including on here and tried all sorts.
I'm rooted, using the stock 4.1.2 ROM with Windows 7.
I can't use Kies as when it was installed the first time it wrecked all my Synctoy sync's so I really could do with another option please guys.
Dial *#7284# on your phone to access PhoneUtil and select 'Qualcomm USB Settings' at the bottom.
Now select 'MTP + ADB' and press 'OK' to return to the previous screen. Now press your 'Back' key to exit PhoneUtil. Your phone is now back to default USB operation.

Thanks for the quick reply.I did that and it was set to mtp + adb...
When I then connected it it tried installing the driver and I got..
Driver device software was not installed.
Please consult with your device manufacturer for assistance getting this device installed

I tried updating the MTP drivers again from device manager but this time got
Windows encountered a problem installing the driver software for your device
Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it.
SAMSUNG Mobile MPT Device
This device cannot start (code 10)
From what I'm reading it's a computer error not the phone. Can anyone suggest a new set of drivers to download (that doesnt involve Kies) as I've had issues with picking up harmful software from random sites when I've been struggling to find drivers.
I tried using the suggestion at the bottom of here r.e.Portable Devices and deleting the Upperfilters string Link but also to no avail.
Oh, and yes I've tried different ports and cables.
Well that's me done for the evening! I've tried everything mentioned in this thread including updating java and windows media player and all the afformentioned stuff but still no dice.
Could it be the actual drivers or a random windows 7 setting that I haven't yet tweaked since my clean install of windows??

Cheers, yeah, I was going to try them but I wasn't at my pc at the time I wrote that. It made no difference whatsoever. I used a utility to check for an remove the samsung drivers (USBDeview) as well as uninstalling through device manager and removing with windows "products and features" but even then, when I tried installing the new drivers it mentioned previous drivers. I restarted after each stage of the process.
I've even tried connecting it in download mode and it shows in device manager.
Could there be some remnant of the software I used to root that phone that might be causing the issue??
I'm due to leave the country in 5 days and have loads of things to sort (also have a family member going into hospital for major surgery tomorrow) so I can't just devote all my time to this - but I need to at least know that it's not the phone (I dont have another win 7 computer to try it on).

MTP Mode not working

I've had my L90 for about two months now, and I'm happy to have it after owning an S2 which has had a faulty USB port and crashed almost daily. The only problem with the L90 was the small internal memory. To remedy this, I bought a SanDisk 32 GB MicroSD, which arrived yesterday. It worked well, the first thing I did was put the first 5 seasons of Adventure Time onto the SD card (~13 GB of .mp4 video) in about an hour and the files played fine in MX Player. However, some problems began to arise after this.
The phone would say that it's in MTP mode, and my computer would show that it was connected, but opening it in Explorer showed me a blank window. Keep in mind that these problems began after mounting the SD card. In addition to this, any attempt to move music would end in the middle of the process because the phone would "disconnect", and any attempt to move an .mp4 file would come up with an error saying the device "didn't support" that file, despite being able to play them previously.
I have tried multiple USB ports on my computer, rebooted my phone, installed the LG drivers (which I feel haven't done anything, as they don't show up anywhere), and nothing seems to work. If anyone could help me out with this, it'd be greatly appreciated.
Update on situation:
The phone's problem now is that it will show up in My Computer, but then disappears after a few seconds, as though it has been disconnected, yet it's still plugged in and charging.

I don't have a custom recovery installed.
I'd suggest uninstalling all LG drivers. Reboot your PC and then run the driver installation program again. DO NOT connect your device to the PC just yet. Reboot PC once more. After PC starts, connect your device in "Charge phone" mode. Let the drivers install. From the "PC connection -> Select USB connection method" screen on the device, select "Media sync ( MTP )" and let the drivers install. Do the same for the remaining two connection methods. Once all drivers are installed, just for sanity, reboot PC one last time.
If that method doesn't work, then a factory reset may need to be done. This can be done in one of two ways.
1) With device booted :: Settings -> Backup & reset :: select Factory data reset
2) See this post for instructions on how to perform a factory reset with key combos.

I've done everything up until installing the drivers from the phone. When it's first plugged in in "Charge Phone" mode, should I hit the button in the top right to install the PC software? Or should I go straight to the other drivers? I'm asking because when I plugged it in with "Charge Phone" mode on, nothing installed.

Yes, if you don't have another LG driver installer package.

I did everything you said, installed drivers, reset my computer and phone, and the problem persisted, it showed up, and then the window closed and nothing showed up. Will I have to factory reset it or is there anything else I could do?

With fresh drivers and you're still having issues then I'd say it can be one of 3 things:
1) Bad MTP driver on Windows. Hard disk fragmentation can cause issues like this. Try running Defrag on the Windows installation drive. Usually ( C: )
2) #1 didn't fix it? Try uninstalling and reinstalling Windows Media Player. MTP only works with Windows XP 32 bit and Windows Media Player 11, and newer 32 and 64 bit Windows versions with Windows Media Player installed.
3) #1 and #2 didn't work??? Possibly a hardware issue on the device.

Should I install the MTP toolkit? Also, I'm running a defrag on my C: drive, and I have Windows 7 64-bit, and I'm not totally sure on how to uninstall and reinstall WMP. If none of this works, I'll just factory reset it and hope it solves it.
you are using lockscreen lock or something????
sometimes lockscreen lock can make device disappear like you said...

I have a lockscreen with a pattern, if that's what you're asking.
