Why did my Moto say "Turbo Charging connected" when I connected my standard charger? - X 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Why did my Moto say "Turbo Charging connected" when I connected my standard charger?
Hi.
I connected my Moto X 2014 to the charger that came with the box (Standard charger, not turbo), and it suddenly read "TurboPower connected" near the bottom of the screen? I don't own a turbo charger and I didn't even know my phone supported turbo charging.
What does this mean?
I'm running android 6.0.

moto x 2014 does support turbo charging (which means fast charging); I've been able to charge quickly using a samsung fast charger. But I don't think it's supposed to come with a turbo charger in the box, so I'm not sure why yours did that. Maybe take a look at the plug and see if it says "adaptive fast charging" anywhere?

[Q] Did 4.4.2 break USB charging?

I'm on VZW with a Moto X Dev Ed (haven't unlocked it yet), and I have a USB charging issue, which I think might be linked to the 4.4.2 OTA update.
Background:
I customarily charge my phone using an unused, powered USB port on my monitor. This has worked fine since I got it in December. The battery stats screen reports "Charging (AC)", and the charging rate seems congruent with AC charging as well. I also know from using this approach with other phones and monitoring current draw that the monitor ports are powered (not even connected via USB cable to the PC) and that previous phones have been able to pull at least 0.8 mA reliably. I was, however, surprised that the Moto X didn't need a switch thrown in the kernel, etc. to enable fast charge over USB.
Problem:
Ever since the 4.4.2 update (I think -- seems like the most significant change I've made to the phone), I've been experiencing a problem with charging. When I plug in to the USB port, one of two other charging behaviors occurs:
1) I plug in and I get the "lightning bolt" icon in the status bar, but the battery screen says "not charging". And the phone's charge indeed does not increase (or does at a very, very slow level not sufficient to offset normal use).
2) I plug in and don't even get the lightning bolt. No charging or indicator.
Observations:
This behavior occurs with different cables and with different USB ports (i.e., the one on my PC). The PC and monitor ports successfully charge other Micro USB devices. So it's not the port or the cable.
A dedicated wall charger (the bundled Moto or others) works fine in any situation as far as I can tell.
A reboot returns the previous ("normal") charging behavior, whereby the monitor USB port initiates "Charging (AC)" mode. But after a certain amount of time (not sure how long, or whether it's cumulative time or # of plug/replugs), charging ability is lost.
I had installed Snapdragon BatteryGuru just before the 4.4.2 update. Uninstalling it had no effect.
So.... any ideas? Is this a known issue to anyone? I've done some medium-depth Googling, and have not been able to find a solution.
TIA for any help.
I charge my phone frequently with a computer and no issues, and I'm on 4.4.2
im going to have to guess the monitor ports hook up to the computer also. so the next thing i would do is reinstall the drivers and see how that dose.
KK 4.4.4 Moto X dev edition usb charging problem
Did you ever figure this out? I just updated to KK4.4.4 and I also have a 2013 Moto X Dev edition (unlocked) and I'm now experiencing a similar charging issue. Although it charges while I'm using the laptop (albeit slowly), it doesn't charge if the laptop is asleep.

Laptops will typically suspend USB ports when they're sleeping and unplugged for battery life reasons, and they limit power when awake and unplugged if a device is idle.

USB fast charging (kernel)

Some kernels come with USB fast charging as an option that you can toggle. If you use this, does it shorten the battery health long-term ? I'm not referring to turbo chargers (aftermarket), this is just the kernel setting. I recall reading this awhile ago, but I was curious myself.

all it does is increase the voltage coming in when charging via a USB. USB charging voltage is about a quarter/third that of a wall charger. no, no negative affects.
Not at all, even with USB fast charge on it will draw less power than if it were plugged in a regular wall charger or the turbo charger. There's an app called Ampere you can use to monitor how much power the phone draws while charging (or even discharging) you can use it to see the differences between regular usb, fast charge usb, turbo charge, etc.
Ok, that's good to know. Now I can re-toggle the feature and not worry.:good:
What about if it is toggled on and you put it on a regular charger ? Is it still fine ?

if its on and you charge it in a wall outlet, nothing will happen. it will only work on a real USB connection.
Motorola put in support for the Qualcomm rapid charge in the nexus 6.
Read up:
https://www.qualcomm.com/products/snapdragon/quick-charge
It allows the battery to charge at a higher voltage with USB connections and Qualcomm certified rapid chargers AND a compatible cable. The nexus 6 can still recharge with standard chargers and cables, just at a slower rate regardless of kernel support.
To answer the damage questions: Moto says no damage to the battery as long as certified chargers are used.
Can't you use any standard usb charging cable? (Assuming it's not really long or poor quality)

Turbo Charger Acting Strange

Carrier: ATT
Rom: AOSiP-V4.0-Marshmallow-6.0.1
Issue: Motorola Turbo Charger
Info: I have had no problems with the stock charger for the last year. Recently, when I plug in the turbo charger into my device, it will not charge. Usually in Ampere, it says it average around 1950 mA of charge, after the issue started occurring, it gives the charging icon but ampere and the built in battery meter says not charging. It actually decreases the charge at a quicker rate.
What I have tried but failed:
Restarting device
Changing Cables
Unplugging charger from wall
What has worked but is not a real solution:
It seems that the phone accepts the wall charger and charges normally after I plug my phone in to my computer via just the cable and then back into the main charger.

This honestly sounds like a outlet problem or a charging box problem. I would check both those if you have not allready.

Incipio Battery Mod does not charge with a standard charger?

I have a Moto Z Play (Dual Sim Version ~ Germany) and a Incipio Battery Mod. The Mod charges fine when i use the bundled Turbo Charger (Charging is split between Phone and the Mod).
When i use the charger bought on Google Play store, the phone gets charged first to 100% and then the Mod charges.
However when i use a standard charger (the one that was bundled with my Moto X 2013 and a USB 3.0 to USB-C Cable) or a USB port, phone gets charged and it shows "Moto Mod" waiting to be charged for the Mod and it does on charge.
Is this a bug or do i have a faulty Mod? It is a bit annoying as i cannot carry the Turbo charger with me always
I read similar issues were happening with different chargers. Moto charging on a samsung etc Not anything faulty, away they got you to invest on charging cords. and something to do with Quick charge/Turbo charge

Moto e5 Plus Charger

I have Recently Purchased moto e5 plus but wanted to use fast charger with it. so will the "Motorola TurboPower 15 Mobile Wall Charger."charges the Moto E5 plus faster then the "Motorola USB Rapid Mobile Wall Charger"
on the "Motorola TurboPower 15+ Mobile Wall Charger" page In the Frequent asked question, it is written there -
Does this charger work with Moto E?
It works, but it will not turbo charge because the Moto E does not have the turbo capability. 15W will not be fully utilized due to the device’s ability to draw the power.
But on the "Moto E5 Plus" page it is written that, it does support Motorola TurboPower 15 and TurboPower 15+ -
Charging
10W Rapid Charging
Charger type
Micro-USB 10W Rapid Charger
