SM-T350 Users! - Samsung Galaxy Tab A series Guides, News, & Discus

As you may know, I'm still learning and this project will be my primary one in order to keep the SM-T350 users happy with their device.
Your device will need to have these same specs (If not, I may support your device in the near future. If your device is the same as the device I'm creating a custom rom for but not the same Android version, Kernel Version, Build Number, etc. please update it through ODIN/Heimdall/Samsung Kies/Samsung Smart Switch to the latest version. If you have to use ODIN or Heimdall, please get your Samsung firmware at https://updato.com).
Prerequisite specs:
Model Number: SM-T350
Android Version: 6.0.1
Android Security Patch Level: April 1, 2017
Build Number: MMB29M.T350XXU1BQD1
SE for Android Status: Enforcing
Security Software Version: ASKS v1.2_161011
KNOX Version: KNOX 2.6 // Standard SDK 5.6.0 // Premium SDK 2.6.0 // Customization SDK 2.6.0 // Container 2.6.0 // CEP 2.0.1 // OTP 2.6.0 // SE for Android 2.4.0 // SSO 2.5.0 // Shared Devices 2.6.0 // TIMA 3.2.005 // VPN 2.2.5
I highly recommend you to have these same exact modifications, use the same Build Number that is listed from Updato.
I might have to get some sources from @ashyx to create a newer TWRP for this device (I know, Build Numbers don't matter for TWRP, but this will be important as this will be a large project).
I will update this again so please make sure to turn on subscription. I will need testers soon after it works on my device.
MORE TO BE ADDED! I will only add more features if you request me! (Not DM but posting with my name attached to it).
Hope you guys can give me some guides to use to create a custom rom and some requests too! Thanks!
Will be updated from time to time!

How is it turning out?

Still been kinda busy with nexus 6p devlopment but really hope I can help jump-start development over here for our device.
If you can link me to the device sources on github and kernel (if you have them) it'll be a piece of cake.
Also did our device ever have lollipop?

https://github.com/ashyx/Samsung_Galaxy_Tab_A_kernel
is this it?
https://github.com/Evervolv/android_device_samsung_gt58wifixx
although this is evervolv's .... idk. I Google searched this cuz I'd love to see my tablet not be bulky
we never got lollipop. tbh I don't even know if Samsung cares at this point for any device not in the S series

I'm so happy that someone is porting Lineage OS to this device. I was on the verge of doing it myself but I saw that you were doing it, and you way have more experience than me. Could you deodex the rom?
Thank you!

Good luck with this not a developer but willing to help out in other ways.

Our device did have Lollipop. To be exact it was 5.0.2. There was no such thing as 5.1.1.

We did get Lollipop, it came with my tablet in late 2015 (5.0.2) and then in 2016, it updated to 6.0.1. It is still updating heavily. The latest update was made in December of 2016.

I'd almost given up hope of someone developing a custom rom for the t350! Seeing this news makes me very happy. I love my little tablet but I do truly despise the touchwiz ui, and never understood why this device wasn't more widely adopted by the community. Granted it doesn't have the best specs in the world, but it's by far not junk ether.
I think I've tweaked and modded mine as much as humanly possible in an effort to change the stock os look and feel, but its a samsung os, so there's only so much you can do to help it.
A fresh RR build is exactly what the Dr. ordered to breath new life into this thing. So excited!

EDIT: actually think i found it pretty quick lol thanks anyways

I've got a t350 with those exact specs! Leme know if you need testers

it's been a while since this project was posted. Just to ask, how much of it is finished?
Edit: How can I sign up to be a tester?

Will this work on the t355?

I can be a beta tester. Same device, and i can just flash the required firmware version

Well, according to his reply in the SM-T350 updated to Android 7.1.1 and rooted thread, he hasn't had the chance to start on the custom rom. Still, in that thread, it sounds like you can use the same process for Android 6.X with 7.X to gain root. Not sure to what extent. I may look into trying it myself but, for now, my SM-350 with Nougat does what I need for the moment but, yeah, miss having root.

Are you going to be working on updating this ROM for the latest update? (T350XXU1CQJ5)
Prerequisite specs:
Model Number: SM-T350
Android Version: 7.1.1
Android Security Patch Level: August 1, 2017
Build Number: NMF26X.T350XXU1CQJ5
SE for Android Status: Enforcing
Security Software Version: ASKS v1.4 Release 161228
KNOX Version: KNOX 2.8 // Standard SDK 5.8.0 // Premium SDK 2.8.0 // Customization SDK 2.8.0 // Container 2.8.0 // CEP 2.2.0 // OTP 2.6.0 // SE for Android 2.4.3 // Shared Devices 2.8.0 // TIMA 3.3.005 // VPN 2.4.0
I understand it will be hard, considering the old TWRP doesn't work for any Android 7.1.1 build on the T350, I am eager to find a working custom ROM for this version, or even just a working custom recovery.

I just picked this tablet up yesterday and it has the same build. I already did a quick dive into the model number, and if you're trying to port Lineage I'm about trying to help with that. As that was at least part of my goal with getting a new device.

Hi, i'm one of the developers of NucleaRom, this build will never be Official nor it have our approval to be released, while we are an open source project everybody can build it and use but the lack of proper credits here and also the childish and rude behavior of the builder are a major concern for us and we advice to all users to not use this build, we already have an official maintainer for this device who will release the rom when we think it's ready to go for the public.
ok, you do not want to recognize my rom as official, but you can not come here and intimate people not to flash it. I will contact my lawyer.

How can I figure out what ROM I have and better yet, where I can locate it again?

Memory tells me I have AnyKernel ROM but I can't find much about it on xda anymore... probably because it's pretty dated. That being said, it was the best ROM I've ever used and I'd like to do a clean wipe and install it again.
Since it's on my current phone, this is what it shows under About phone:
Android version 6.0.1
CyanogenMod API level: Fig (6)
Android security patch level: August 5, 2016
Baseband version: MDM9625_104670.31.05.42R

Get some Oreo in your life. I'm running crDroid 4.7 with fantastic results. Pie ROMs are becoming more stable, soon I'll be switching.
Or you want to reinstall your current ROM, why don't you format the data partition in TWRP to clear out the data from your phone?

I'll try Oreo out. I originally did try to go Oreo by Nitrogen but all of the Oreo links pointed to the Pie ROMs, so I don't know where to find those at either. I just need something stable is all. I'll check out crDroid 4.7. Thanks for the tip.
As far as the question about reinstalling my ROM, the reason behind this is because I own 2x Shamu's. The purpose behind a new install is so I don't mess the old one up (more than it already is) and then go without a daily driver. It worked well in the past as I bricked one (luckily brought it back) and would have been without a phone for 5-6 days if I hadn't set it up this way. I'm pretty novice when it comes to all this advanced stuff and I hedge against that by rotating between two.
Why do you need a copy of the ROM? If you want to start over with a factory reset, just do one...or wipe data, cache and dalvik in recovery. I would strongly suggest a nandroid first.
If you are looking to put this same OS on a different N6, take a nandroid and copy it over to the other phone and restore it. Make sure the bootloader matches at least the version on the original device.
I get not wanting to loose some look or function that you like, but you are trading security for that. There are several Oreo ROMs that may meet your needs. LineageOS is the replacement to the CyanogenMod ROM you're running. You won't find an official copy because it's been shutdown years ago. If you find a copy on the internet, you run the risk that it's modified.
Also, take a look at AOSiP and ABC ROMs.
If you decide to go to Oreo, you need to bite the bullet and upgrade to the last google stock ROM first so the bootloader is updated. You can get that from Factory Images for Nexus and Pixel Devices .
"find somebody that you think is undeserving of your compassion and give it to them" - Christian Picciolini
I tried out crDroid with Oreo and it was laggy. Maybe because I didn't update my bootloader like ktmom mentioned above. Either way, I decided to try out PureNexus after that and PureNexus was speedy enough for me. Lacked a lot of the configurations I had with AnyKernel/CM13, but it offers enough to satisfy my needs. Appreciate all of the help and suggestions in this thread. This truly is a great community. Can't thank you all enough.

As nobody really posted here, I just wanted to say that this is working really well.
I had huge gps problems with the last 15.1 unofficial, but it works perfectly in this one and it has some very nice additions as well and is 100% stable for me even with xposed and magisk.
@admicos Thank you very much and I really hope that, if you have the time, you continue making these.
New build being uploaded right now, no changes other than a LOS repo sync.
The last couple test builds I made were somewhat iffy, but this one seems pretty well. (The recolored boot animation didn't make it in for some reason, but the rest are fine)
Everytime when i reboot the system to os or recovery, the recovery looks replaced and i cant mount data.
Not sure what caused it,i just flashed this on my non treble axon 7

I'm not sure why that's happening either. Can you replicate this on official LOS? If you can, I'd suggest you try asking on their thread, they might know more.
Good ROM for a while, why not update it? Is there a new kernel upgrade for the top post?

What version of Xposed are you using? I've always wanted to try this ROM, but thought there wasn't an official Xposed yet. The others I knew at the time were reportedly shady.
Sorry for the long wait (kinda forgot about this existing :/), and sorry for the bad news;
As I am planning to switch to another phone, I cannot continue making this anymore.
I might continue this as a GSI or something, but I really don't know if that will happen, as Android source is a big mess that I don't think I, and my (reasonably fast) CPU are prepared to handle. (Any pointers to dealing with this are greatly appreciated)
It was a fun two years lurking around.
(ps: The source link is completely borked (and all my sources are gone). I probably should stop trying to be fancy and use a public Git server like a normal person the next time)
If your build env is on Docker, I can easily stage a build server for you. It won't be fast, but you can leave it running all night long if you need, and free up your computer.
Also, if you're not using Docker, I can help you set it up, so anyone else can easily build by themselves if they choose to do so.
Can I upgrade the kernel?

Any opinion?: firmware choice: Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 SM-T810

Any opinion?: firmware choice: Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 SM-T810 [moved from Android General Q&A]
I'm looking for best bets for choosing a good firmware update for this older SM-T810 tablet that I still like. It is Wifi-only.
The tablet recently got very flaky on Android 5 so I let it install an auto-downloaded image for Android 6. The new image probably came from Samsung since I was told at purchase that device had official Samsung firmware for Android 5.1.1. (see ABOUT DEVICE below)
Things got worse using the new Android 6 image, so bad that I'm ready to install new firmware by sideloading.
1. Since the device was rooted by prior owner (see: DEVICE HISTORY below for details) I am guessing I have little to gain by sticking with an official Samsung image--unless nothing else works. Does that sound right? And, does anything prevent me from going the non-Samsung route?
2. If it makes sense at this point to try a non-Samsung image, my question for folks here boils down to this: where am I likely to have the best luck finding a build that will work well on the device? For example, I wonder
who are the most experienced makers of firmware for this older tablet?
and which version of Android--7 or 8? Should I avoid 8 or go for it?
(I've seen an unofficial Lineage OS build for Android 8. I believe that Android 7 builds exist, too.)
Thanks for any suggestions.

Whatever, Lineage OS 15.1 doesn't seem to have any serious competition. Hope it works when I try it--first time jitters!

Good Afternoon all,
I have a question for ya, I just found my old Galaxy Tab S and I left it Rooted SU installed with TWRP Recovery on it. It has KitKat 4.4.4 Stock Rom on it.
Cam I flash your rom over top or do I need to do anything to prep it?
(sorry for the noob question to ask I haven't messed with rooting in a few years and I am seriously outa practice.)

Hi!
Don't flash over that, just follow the instructions in the first post.
It is important that you clean wipe everything except your storage to not have any conflicts with different ROMs.
If you still want to have root on this ROM, just flash magisk after flashing ROM and reboot.

Sorry, I don't own that device so it does not make sense for me to build ROMs for it since I wouldn't be able to test them.
