"No OS installed" T-Mobile Note 4 - T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey everyone,
I hope I posted this in the proper area. I've run into a problem with my Note 4. I wiped it and now if I try to reboot from TWRP, it says theres no OS installed. If I do reboot, it gets stuck on the samsung Note 4 screen.
I need to get this up and running asap. Could someone please help?
I have TWRP 2.8.7.0 installed and I have Odin 3.09 on my desktop. I would really appreciate detailed instructions and download links to anything else I may need so that I can get my Note 4 up and running again.
Thank you.

That's my problem. I haven't been able to find any rom for Note 4. Last I remember, there wasn't anything on sammobiles for Note 4. Would love a stock firmware right now so I can flash it.

UPDATE: I found a stock firmware from this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/no...uide-odin-to-stock-unrooted-firmware-t2957156
just tried to flash it and I got a fail. I followed the instructions exactly but it failed.
Any idea why? Or what I should do?
Odin v.3 engine (ID:3)..
File analysis...
SetupConnection...
Initialization...
Get PIT for mapping...
Firmware update start...
SingleDownload.
Aboot.mbn
NAND Write Start!!
sbl1.mbn
rpm.mbn
FAIL! (Auth)
Complete(Write) operation failed.
All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 1)

Maybe I can transfer a backup to my memory card and restore off of that? I would just need a backup... Anyone?

did you try: https://forum.xda-developers.com/no...om-n910t3uvu3epj2-stock-rooted-odex-t3501592?
Also, I would update to latest TWRP (3.0.2, i think)

I would just Odin back to stock firmware if you dont have a backup. you probably wiped the wrong partition or something, I've seen this message before too and that's how I got my phone working again

Nothing unfortunately. Just to be sure I did it right ... I downloaded the kernel zip file in that thread. Transferred it to my sd card, loaded it back onto my phone, went into twrp, hit install, found the zip file and installed it. a few seconds later, it was done. I rebooted. It went to the logo screen again and then it back to TWRP. IDK what to do anymore

So, the COD6 seems to be damaged or something. I couldn't use it. And the ANK4 I already had and still getting a fail.
It's been a long time since this occurred. IDK if this helps but when the phone was still up and running. For some unknown reason, I went to my app drawer and uninstalled/deleted Superuser. Could that be a reason why I'm having an issue flashing my Note 4 back to stock?

Could someone possible send me a backup file from a Note 4 so that I could restore my phone and then factory reset? Maybe that'll get my phone up and running.

YES!!! I fixed it!!! Why didn't anyone tell me that I couldn't flash a stock (kitkat) rom if I had previously updated to Lollipop or Marshmallow? Fortunately, while searching "write fail: aboot" a thread came up and someone mentioned it so I downloaded a marshmallow rom and that was it. I'm up and running now.

[Q] I9305 4.4.4 to 4.1.1 downgrade with Knox bootloader

I would be very grateful for some assistance with this, after trying many firmwares with Odin (most now blocked because of Knox bootloader), custom recovery etc. etc.
Basically I want to downgrade my I9305 from 4.4.4 to 4.1.1 so that I can use the 'trick' for SIM unlocking the device. This is after finding out that GalaxSim Unlock can't be used with this device, which I tried after rooting under 4.4.4.
I have a 4.1.1 firmware on the way which I can flash with Odin, but I'm conscious that each time I do this since upgrading to 4.3/4.4.4 the Knox bootloader comes up with 'Unsupported version'.
Is it possible for me to copy the boot.img file from the 4.4.4 firmware package and replace the boot.img file in the 4.1.1 package? Will that work? I don't really understand the ins and outs of this yet and it's getting very frustrating when I can't find any answers on Google to these specific questions.
If the above doesn't work, what option do I have to downgrade to stock 4.1.1?
Many thanks for your help.

Thank you so much for this; I got excited that it might finally be a solution but alas, when I try to install the ROM in CWM recovery (6.0.4.7) I get the following message:
format() expects 5 args, got 4
E:Error in /data/media/0/stock411.zip (I renamed it and copied it again to internal phone storage in case it was a bad transfer to ext SD card previously)
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.
A quick search suggests a bad download perhaps? Will try again in 5m (when the re-download completes) but if that fails I'm back to square one.
Do you think it'd be possible to flash another stock firmware in this manner? If you flash from CWM does it never affect the bootloader/Knox? Or is this error message coming from a Knox-type block, do you think?
Thanks for your input.
Update
Late last night I somehow managed to flash a stock 4.1.1 ROM from a rather messed up 4.4.4 (following CWM recovery backup restore [apps were 'stopping' left right and centre making the phone unusable, even after wiping cache and delvik cache]). This enabled me to do the dialler trick and remove the SIM lock.
Today I've tried 3 different 4.1.2 ROMs and all fail with SW Rev. Invalid Magic String (or something similar) using Odin. After the first failed attempt I thought ok, I'll go back to 4.1.1; however when I tried this the phone got stuck on the first Samsung I9305 boot screen and, oddly, I couldn't get into recovery mode - the only option was download mode. I resolved this by flashing 4.3 (which fails with Device 3, Binary 2 or some such message. After that failure though, flashing 4.1.1 works and got my phone back to where it was before.
This is all rather confusing but I assume the 4.1.1 ROM doesn't come with recovery/boot images and requires these from a failed 4.3 flash, or something like that.
Anyway, I guess the upshot is: there's a specific 4.1.1 ROM out there for I9305 which works through Odin despite Knox bootloader being installed on your phone. It's on TSAR3000.com (I can't post links yet 'cause I'm new, but you can find it through Google if you look hard enough).
Any feedback on the above behaviour encountered during my first foray into the land of rooting, flashing and SIM unlocking that may help me/others understand what's actually going on behind the scenes would be much appreciated!
Thanks.

Downgrade is very easy. Extract that tar and then select all files except sboot.bin because sboot is the bootloader which causes downgrade fail then compress them into tar agin using 7zip then flash. First do all this with 4.1.2 firmware then you will be able to downgrade to 4.1.1☺
HELP ME !!!!!!!!

Now select all files except sboot.bin and compress into tar file by using green + button or left click options and the flash with odin google it how to flash with odin there many detailed guides available.
And I don't know that sboot.bin is in 4.1.1 firmware you can check by extracting that tar of 4.1.1 as you done with 4.4 file if any sboot.bin is there remove it and compress all remaining fies into tar again and flash.

found on this thread by lyriquidperfection following qasim's suggestion to remove sboot.bin on top of I9305XXUFNI3_I9305DBTFNI3_DBT.zip which is a 4.4.4 stock rom. I have unzipped the tar file, removed sboot.bin, rezipped with 7zip as tar, then used ihsas's script to convert that to tar.md5 and flashed with odin, and stuck at the white logo screen. WHY oh WHY

So, I have a Note 3 that I am trying to upgrade (from 4.2 maybe). Kies and Kies 3 do not recognize my phone. When I tried to Odin it, I got an error and the message, "firmware upgrade encountered an issue". I've tried reflashing, but nothing helps. I feel like an idiot that I cannot figure this out. I have read and read. I have downloaded:
N900A_OC1_Stock(100%).zip
AP_N900AUCUEOC1_CL4335446_QB4210025_REV03_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar.md5

N900AUCUEOC1_N900AATTEOC1_N900AUCUEOC1_HOME.tar.md5
So, I've tried different ways and I cannot figure out what I am doing wrong. I have tried with Odin 3.09 and 3.10.6. I cannot use the zip file since I can't seem to get my phone into recovery with the error message above.
Can someone provide me with some guidance (in very simple steps)? Much appreciated.

Stupid question, it is AT&T phone. You can try to delete the .md5 at the end of the file name. Should look like this after AP_N900AUCUCNC2_722276_REV03_user_low_ship_MULTI_C ERT.tar

I cannot seem to download the AP file. I keep getting an MD5 error. I have tried from the above cited thread and looked everywhere on the net for another copy. I have all the other files downloaded, just not that one.
Thanks,

You try downloading the "All-in-one/Non-Wipe Tars" instead and Odin it in the AP slot? http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-att/general/100-stock-lollipop-5-0-n900aucueoc1-t3069609 You don't Odin any other files, if you use the ALL-in-One file. This one ONLY gets flashed with Safestrap http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=59666958&postcount=2

Tab S2 T810 Soft Bricked

Edit: Problem solved.
To preface all of this, I understood the risks I was taking. I may have accidentally messed something up due to my own error and I understand this. The end.
I have the SM-T810 model. First I flashed the Permissive Lollipop 5.1.1 kernel through Odin along with the TWRP recovery. All went well. I made a backup through TWRP. Tablet worked perfectly upon reboot.
Then I went to flash the Optimal Rom according to the directions:
"1. Download ROMzip to your SD Card
2. BACKUP YOUR CURRENT ROM - I cannot stress this enough. Don't ask why, just do it.
3. You will need to flash the firmware package in ODIN that matches the base of the current ROM, located in post 3 here
4. Flash ROMzip in recovery
5. Reboot"
So Before flashing the ROMzip in recovery, I flashed the provided firmware package in ODIN, "810_oh7_fw_BigBot96.tar.md5" This is where Odin failed and things got messed up.
After restarting the tab it gets stuck at the "Galaxy Tab S2" logo screen. At the top in red letters it reads "Kernel is not seandroid enforcing."
I am still able to get into recovery, which I factory resetted, wiped, formatted, the whole nine yards in a million different combinations. Afterwards I would restore the backup I created earlier (which always appears to be successful), however when I go to reboot from recovery TWRP tells me there is no OS installed and goes back to being frozen at the boot logo. Weird.
Whenever I try to flash stock from Odin, the images provided on these forums, it fails
"<ID:0/005> NAND Write Start!!
<ID:0/005> boot.img
<ID:0/005> FAIL!
<ID:0/005>
<ID:0/005> Complete(Write) operation failed.
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 1)"
Where did I go wrong? I may have accidentally forgot to run odin as administrator, maybe that was it? If anyone has any questions I'll be glad to answer and I appreciate any help that I can get. Thanks.
I would guess that the stock ROM you try to flash has an older bootloader version than the ROM you had flashed before. The bootloader is not downgradeable.
So look for a 5.1.1 stock ROM with a "2B" in the version number ( a canadian and some other version is available). Then Odin should flash it just fine.

I have a feeling you are right, since I am able to flash other things through odin on the tab (like the custom kernel), just not the stock rom. Also, I just recently bought the tablet and stupidly updated it immediately upon unboxing, so I probably do have a newer bootloader. If anyone knows where I can get a newer stock ROM I would be very grateful.

It should be available on SamMobile. Also when flashing your twrp backup make sure you are restoring system.
Lastly you don't need to flash the firmware package just the rom as you are already updated by the looks of things.
So just find the latest stock firmware then flash that then the rom.

Thanks for the tips. Would a newer 5.0.2 ROM possibly have the newer bootloader, or would I need to find a 5.1.1 ROM which is what I had previously installed? Having trouble finding a 5.1.1 ROM
Wow that was stupid of me. I never tried flashing the Optimal ROM itself because I initially freaked out after flashing the firmware. My tablet is back in action with Optimal ROM

Flashing stock rom with Odin is pretty straightforward. Check the integrity of your tar ball (md5 checksum, etc.).

Custom Binary blocked by frp lock

So I rooted my phone and rebooted. The OEM unlock must've been disabled somehow, and now I can't get the phone to start up. I tried flashing stock firmware, and it fails with SW REV check fail device 2 binary 1.
I tried getting stock firmware from sammobile but it's always corrupted, despite me watching the download very closely and watching it finish. I tried everything right down to flashing a new bootloader and frp lock blocks all of it. I have scanned google for the past 48 hours and contacted sammobile about the corrupted zip. I haven't gotten anything back yet, but I really want to get this phone fixed asap.
2 questions:
1. what does the error SW REV check fail device 2 binary 1 mean.
2. Can I flash any official firmware or does it have to be my specific firmware, and if I force it what damages are there.
If at all possible, does anyone have a copy of the note 5 rogers (nougat) rom. So I can try to flash something not corrupted.
Any help I can get is appreciated.
On a side note, I haven't been in the rooting scene for a long time (since kitkat) what new developments should I watch out for to prevent further issues.

You can download the latest stock firmware update N920CXXU3CQE1 For note 5 in samupdate or samsung mobile or any other websites to fix frp lock and the error SW REV check is about the sboot file when you update your phone you update sboot too , so samsung won't let you flash older firmware with older sboot file ....

I got an email back from sammobile saying they fixed the file. Downloaded it, flashed it everything works fine now.
Stuff I learned.
1. MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT TURN OFF OEM UNLOCK
2. Always keep a stock backup.
3. first thing you should re-flash bootloader.

Yep. Everything work 100%
Made this reply on the phone.
And for anyone who hasn't kept OEM unlock enabled..
Once I ran my battery down to 0% on MM. Upon charging I was FRP locked. Go figure..

Hello people. I hope I can get some advice. I seem to have done a REALLY DUMB THING and unchecked the box in developer tools and .... sigh ... turned off OEM lock (there was an instruction about unlocking the screen. I know. DUMB). But now I have a bricked brand new note 5. I am downloading the firmware that should go with my nougat 7.0 and am hoping to be able to use Odin 3.11. I tried to use the Mac version Jodin but that didnt work
Any thoughts> advice? I know ... I screwed up big time and should have known better
Thanks !!!!!
What was the firmware before you bricked it?
I'm not sure what the security is on the frp lock but I'm sure it's either a tag in firmware or checksum. If it's checksum you might be screwed unless you were running stock. Did you update the device to nougat before you turned off the oem unlock?
Try the actual odin. I'm pretty skeptical of other versions. If you need another firmware I still have mine.

I was running the most recent Nougat that was OTA after I bought the phone and then used tdunham;s [How-to] Root your Device - all versions + All Firmware Download
I managed to get that to work and it was fine (rooted) but then I did the dumb OEM uniock
I did an android backkup on the phone befire I screwed it up but dont know how to get to it. Maybe flash a TWRP tar file?
The sprint firmware I downloaded is a zip file. But I guess thats not going to work with Odin
So ,what next?

You will not be able to use your phone again until you flash a complete firmware via Odin. You, me and many other are having the same problem on the latest Sprint Nougat firmware (DQF1). Heck, I had it twice yesterday until I noticed OEM Unlock was disabled.
Flash the DQF1 via odin, you won't loose personal files like photos but after that the phone will be buggy so you may want to do a factory reset.
I had to ask: https://forum.xda-developers.com/note5/help/fml-custom-binary-blocked-frp-happening-t3637070
And this guy: https://forum.xda-developers.com/note5/help/sm-n920p-frp-fap-lock-help-asap-t3637438
And you.
Fix: Flash a complete stock unmodified firmware via Odin.

When I try to extract the zip (on my mac) I get a message that says "unable to expand .... into Downloads". It could of course be a corrupted file, but I dont think so.
Any chance or way of getting to TWRP (maybe odin) and reaching my nandroid backup (which i figured was "insurance" against a screwup"? I could try to odin that, and am thinking of doing ir later
If all fails, do I just throw the phone away? I hate that idea
So, how do I get the firmware that I can flash via Odin???
As always, suggestions welcome.

Firmware are downloaded from http://www.sammobile.com/
Search for the SM-N920P and download one. It will take like 2 o 3 hours to download a .zip, inside the .zip there is a .tar.md5 file you will need to unzip, that file that Odin will recognize and flash. The DQF1 build will work, you just loose all the mods and root. (Avoid Macs if you are gonna tinker with Android)

I downloaded that file (it took a long time but I do have it) it's a zip file but when I try to open it my mac says I can;t. I have an old Pc that I installed odin with but for going back and foth and downloading my mac is much faster, (I transfer files to the PC using a USB)
I'll check to see if sammobile has a md5 for their file. But I guess I MUST havve that tar file

Thanks so much but there is now NO NEED
Here's a happy ending: I went to the local NYC Sprint store, the tech guy in charge was terrific, no sermonizing, he took the phone in back and after maybe 15 minutes came back with the very recent (QE1) firmware installed
I have it back, unrooted. But WORKING
Thanks much. And I must say I found the level of service from the Sprint store guy a real relief

Frp lock bypass on galaxy note 5
First of all you have to download firmware combination file for your galaxy note 5 with the same model number as your device have. Then you can easily flash the AP file with odin3 and your phone will turn on..The user interface will appear different but you will be able to access oem unlock feature in developer options.
Then turn of the oem lock.
Then you can download stock u4 firmware with 4 files AP+CP+CSC+BL
and you have to flash all these 4 files while your phone is in download mode.
After the procedure your phone will be unlocked and you are good to go.
I hope that this article would be helpful for all those people who have got their phone blocked by frp lock

Is there any way you can help me with this? I've downloaded 3 different firmwares, created a combinary using the tool with each of them but every time I push them via Odin, it gives me "SW REV. CHECK FAIL. DEVICE: 6, BINARY: 1" and the other two times it was BINARY: 2 and BINARY: 4.
What am I doing wrong?
Do I just have to wait for someone to come out with something flashable?...
My RP SWREV is B:6 K:1 S:2
FRP LOCK: ON
SECURE DOWNLOAD: ENABLED
