you're right. but honestly I would've loved if they would skip 8.1 and go straight to 9.
so ive been using the mate 20 pro for 3 weeks now, this is m 4th phone in total, finally blessed with a BOE screen. Do you think its a good upgrade over the s8 plus.
things ive considered:
s8 plus can be sold for at least £280
i pre ordered so i get the smart watch which can be sold for 150ish i guess (ill keep the charger)
its two year contract however
do you think its worth it??
You have to decide whether you need (or want) the new phone and whether you are willing to pay the price. From my experience it is never "worth" to buy an android phone within 3 months of release. Just like the Mate 20 most have severe issues that need to be fixed first and the price drops significantly aswell. I bought my Mate 10 Pro for 500€ last January after it was released in November for 800€. By that time they had already fixed some problems with updates.
Just make up your mind if you wanna have it or not... there is no relation to the money you pay anymore with smartphones.
IMHO: If your phone is still working fine, keep it. You can buy the Mate 20 after christmas, people will be selling unwanted gifts. You will get a much better deal. The S8 will have a similar price in 3 months
Only you can decide if it is worth keeping; is it worth it to *you*?
(Found out that I must be a lucky one, mine has an LG screen that seems to be fine so far)

i have plans to get the Moto x4 64gb (android one) is on sale on bestbuy but i have a couple of questions
1-What will be the latest android version that this phone will get ? ****currently on Android pie .
2-how is the support on xda about this phone? like root and roms etc

1. Pie is the 2nd major update for X4, so it is probably the last.
2. Since X4 is not a true pixel/Nexus device, it has very limited developer support.
Just my two cents - I bought mine in the summer (2019) for $299 because, at the time, that was a deal off the $400 asking price. Now, as often as they are seeming to "fire sale" or bogo, I would assume they are getting close to EOL. That said, for < $200 it's still a great deal for a phone.
Just bought a second X4, as it has been a great phone.
Project Fi ($6.25 monthly over 24 months = $150).
Being that you can install GSI ROMs on this phone, I feel that we should be able to keep this phone updated for the foreseeable future.
Pie will likely be the last major OTA update. Monthly security updates will be published OTA until Oct 2019. As was stated above, there are numerous ways to load other ROMs (for Android Q), the phone is easily rootable and Motorola allows you to unlock the bootloader right from their website. For the $135-150 they are selling it, you are getting a VERY good value.

Me and my girlfriend have the same Mate 20 Models. She received 359 and I didn't...

Last update from samsung was on 11 february 2020, security level january, has anyone receved an additional security update?Have asked samsung netherlands , didnt receive an useful answer...

Yes and now it is like it suppose to behave now it's working very good. Faster. The lag is almost gone. No heat maybe that's why it took 7 months for Europe model to have a new update.

last update was 18 october 2020, samsung is very slow with the security updates.changed from 4x per year to 2x per year. dont think that next phone will be a samsung..
