Or u can use this app...

as it turns out, you need to have Dev Options turned OFF before turning UI tuner. Then you can enable it. after you see the option, you can enable dev options again
Thats how it worked in my case anyways.

I love you

Nice thing, thanx

Just looked at the video... This is great, but I don't like the number inside the battery... Too tiny to actually read. Anyone have an app to show it as a number next to the battery? My old LG had that as an option in the battery settings... I preferred that. ?

Worked even with dev options on for me though

hmmm. weird. oh well, glad its working

anyone know how to enable the % to the right of the battery instead of within it?

I've done some extensive searching and I could not find an answer. I'd imagine this is a setting in the ROM.
I am now wondering if anyone has found an app that maybe does this. Certainly some apps provide a battery indicator, but specifically one that always sits immediately to the left of the battery icon.

Good work

Thx

For those who don't have the System UI Tuner active here is how to enable it:
http://www.greenbot.com/article/3156309/android/androids-system-ui-tuner-what-it-is-and-how-to-use-it.html
First, you need to pull down the notification shade. Then, tap and hold the gear icon in the top right of the screen for a few seconds (on newer phones you’ll feel a vibration upon activation). Once you let go, the tiny cog will roll away and you’ll be taken to the Settings app and a box will appear saying, “Congrats! System UI has been added to Settings.”
To get to the menu, scroll all the way to the bottom of the settings screen. In the second-to-last spot, you’ll see a new System UI Tuner option, right above the About phone tab. Tap it and you’ll open up a set of options for tweaking the interface.

Couple Kit Kat transition questions

I received my VZW Moto X in the mail yesterday and played with it most of the day before accepting the Kit Kat OTA.
I can't help but notice the change in the digital clock widget... I really liked the bold hour with the thin minutes... any way to get that back without resorting to another app like HD Widgets?
Also, I'm coming from a GS3 and was able to hide apps from displaying in the app drawer on my old phone, which I can't seem to be able to do on my Moto X... is that a Samsung/Touchwiz feature? I ask because I have a couple paid apps with unlock key apps that I got used to not having to see.
I also notice the lack of Developer Options at the bottom of the Settings menu... is that because I'm on VZW?
These are really just minor annoyances and not major problems, but any help would be appreciated.

to enable developer options..
go into settings, scroll to bottom select About Phone..
Then scroll to the bottom and press the build number repeatedly until the developer countdown finishes. voila! you have developer options.
Sorry, I cannot help you with the other things.

It would be complicated, but you could side load an older APK of deskclockgoogle.apk from a 4.2 ROM and disable the preinstalled version. Some additional tweaks might be required. Alternatively, the Chronus app that's available in the market looks identical and lets you customize a ton more.
Check those unlock key apps to see if they give you a native option to hide the icons from the launcher. Otherwise, you can use a custom launcher like Nova to hide the apps you don't want to see.
I tried Chronus but for some reason I can't add the widget to the home screen, it just doesn't show up on the widget menu. I can add it to my lock screen, just not my home screen. Is it a 4.4 compatibility issue maybe?
Edit: Never mind... For some reason it's available in the widget menu now... Weird.

Should I stick with stock or upgrade to a ROM?

So I just recently got my moto x, everything seems really nice and smooth. But I feel some basic things are left out.
For example, it would be nice to have a power widget without making another click on the top right just to access it. And when I do I feel like some things are left out.
Looking for basic things like easy toggle for screen rotation and GPS.
Another thing I'm looking for is an easy way to reboot phone (holding power only allows me to turn off), a quick way to take a screenshot, and even a 'holding back button force quits app' would be helpful.
Now I was thinking of maybe getting apps that do what im looking for (if available) or should I go with a ROM that can do all those?
I'm not crazy into themeing or looks I just want the method thats fast, responsive, quick AND still allow me to use motorolla functions, like the way it handles notifications by shaking the phone or twist twice to get camera, I love that and don't want to lose it.
Any suggestions?

Stay stock, root if you can and install xposed with gravity box module, this will allow you to add those features to the stock rom
if you can't/don't want to root here are some tips for getting along better with your x
for the quick settings - use two fingers to pull down the notification shade (xposed / gravitybox will allow you to customize the tiles in the quick settings page)
Screenshot - volume down and power (hold together for ~3seconds)
reboot - there are apps on the play store that can give you a shortcut for a reboot (or again Xposed will give you the advanced power menu that you are missing)
Kill apps - press the recents button and swipe the app away
I hope you find this helpful.

Alright, sounds good I am rooted so thats a plus.
So I wont get an increase in speed/response by going to a ROM than?
I'll just get Xposed and add my power widgets (hoping screen rotation is one of them)
And that's really great, I didn't know that you can press power + vol down by default or that swiping apps away kills the process (i thought it just clears it from your most used)

Honestly i havent checked out any rom for the X, i have done it on previous devices because the battery life was ****, but i dont feel like i need a custom rom with this device, infact it would probably break things i like, such as active display and touch-less control.
yeah its always cool learning new things i didn't know about the two finger shade pull-down till i lost root on my droid maxx.
Xposed has other great modules as well, such as;
"Gravitybox" - the must have, just about everything you want from a custom rom
"moto tether" to easily enable wifi tethering
"preference injector" will put your modules into the settings page, to make it feel more like their cooked in
"Greenify" to keep those pesky background processes at bay
"root cloak" incase you want to use apps that don't like when your rooted (verzions ISIS payment app doesnt like root)
...Just to name a few.
I was worried about the battery life with switching to the moto X DE, but this thing rocks!
I would also suggest checking out Eclipse ROM. It's stock based so you don't so you don't lose any of Moto's goodies like active display but it adds most/all of the things your looking for using X Control as well as getting rid of the bloat. I'm running it via safestrap and I love it.
I would go with Eclipse!
Eclipse blur ROM. The benefit over a stock ROM using gravity box vs. using eclipse blur ROM is that eclipses ROM is all code. Not a hack and slash overlay code.
I think I might have to go with a ROM because I went here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2431768&highlight=stopped
to try and install xposed and it kept giving me crashes
So which ROM will still allow me to use "ok google now" and twist twice for camera and touchless notifications?
Tasker and the stick power toggle widget will do all/most of what you ask. If there's not something you really need root for, why go through all the hassle?

It worked and I see a lot of options I was originally looking for!
One last thing I suppose, by default kitkat has 5 screens. I'm only using 3. How can I remove/delete the extra screens?
I couldn't find it in gravity box (from quick glance), is there another module to add that can do this or what would you suggest?

I think you should use a different launcher. You want something like stock launcher grab the Google now launcher or formerly called Google experience launcher, there is a xposed module for the Google now launcher which you to customize. Or use nova prime launcher. That's what I use and I love it, fast easy and simple.
Download Google now launcher.

I preffer Nova launcher, but if you go with GEL (google now launcher, or google experience launcher, whatever you wanna call it) There is a xposed module that adds some options like that, though as i don't use it, i can't confirm that you can edit the number of home screens.
Edit: somehow totally missed that Hovax mentioned the xposed module in the previous post.

Well I decided to go with something simple (instead of downloading module and another apk just for reducing 2 screens) and went with Nova launcher (i like the description that it's performance driven, i hope thats true).
So now I got gravity box module and I love it! Does exactly what I want it to do with the power buttons when you swipe from the top and what I love even more, it gives me an option to swipe on a corner to instantly bring up the toggle buttons (instead of swiping down and than clicking the button or using two fingers). And the performance is smooth and not noticing any slowdowns. Which is exactly what I'm looking for. Fast, smooth, simple, and functionality.
Unless there is a ROM thats faster than it already it is right I think I'm sold with stock + gravity box (and nova launcher to do something as simple as reducing home screens)

You can set nova launcher animations to faster than light and its really fast. You can also set gestures for things, I have swipe up on the screen so I can get to the app drawer so I don't have to have the little icon. If your on Verizon check out eclipse ROM.

[Q] How to disable "Swipe down from the top to exit full screen" message?

I keep getting this notification when I have various apps open. It doesn't happen with the offending apps on every occasion but I sure as heck would like to disable this obnoxious message permanently of possible. Currently unrooted running stock 4.4.2.

Ok, here is your answer:
Open Dynamic Notification, click advanced options. Now click advanced options in the drop down menu.
UNCHECK "Use Immersive mode"
The status bar will probably show, but problem solved. Its immersive mode that causes the message to appear.
Any app that uses immersive mode will trigger the pop-up.

I don't think its the apps issue...more like a 'bug' in android. Not sure if I would even call it a bug...there just isn't any option anywhere to turn off the immersive mode "swipe down" messages. I imagine it was intentional....cause you just know that 10,000 people would call in to tech support saying they're stuck in full screen and can't get out.
I guess this is one advantage active display has over dynamic notification....that and power saving. AD doesn't actually wake your phone...one of the co-processors in the "X8" system is able to provide the notifications while sipping battery power.

I didn't know that about Active Display in respect to saving battery. Very cool! Might switch back. I was just used to Dynamic Notifications on my old phone.
UPDATE: Per your round-about recommendation I'm now using Active Display. Really like it! Guess I was quick on the trigger with disabling it and installing Dynamic Notifications when I first got the phone. I appreciate it.

Swipe down to exit full screen on xbmc box
Having recently acquired on xbmc box from my son ( he couldn't be bothered to set it up) I was extremely frustrated by the swipe message so I googled it & no one had the answer, so I purchased a wireless keyboard mouse, Bingo Fn+ mouse hover curser over OK & it's gone, if that doesn't work , re install & try again.

Custom Quick Settings tiles?

Hey all,
having been used to custom roms (slimkat) on my old phone, I got used to certain features. One of them was choosing which tiles appear in the quick settings pull screen. Is there any way to do that on the Droid Turbo without root/xposed? Would love screen rotation to be available. Thanks.
This was one of the very first things I tried to do with this phone. Unfortunately from my experience I have not found any options to change anything about the pull down menu.

You need root to directly change the quick tiles.
As a workaround, I use the app "power toggles" which puts a custom bar in the dropdown menu that can be configured (I too need to be able to change screen rotation quickly).
I think Lollipop has a shortcut in the dropdown!

I would love to know as well as this is typically a root deal. I have survived with zooper, widgetsoid and popup to create the toggle panel in the center that pops up when I press the gears toggle button. Easier than pulling down panel and then pressing the tiles button to show all tiles that does not include all the toggles I use.
Under the General tab in the Themer options, you will see a selection for Notification Toolbar. Select this. Use your standard launcher and viola! Customizable? toolbar on the drop down, including a flashlight!

Bummer I was going to look into that. With the bigger screens nowadays I prefer a ribbon in the notification area so I can just scroll over to the less used tiles when needed but I've found no option for enabling that in xposed or via the market.

Well you can do that with power toggles or notification toggle. Play store apps
I have power toggles and have set a bar in the notification area but I don't see any option to make it into a ribbon, where is the setting for this?
Power toggles is amazing. It also allows access to volume sliders. IDK why android doesn't allow the volume buttons to open all the volume sliders. :\

First thoughts on X4 Pie

So I was curious what people thought after they got their Pie updates? (I'm still waiting)
-Is it faster/slower?
-Any change in battery life?
-Thoughts on Google gestures?

Seems about the same speed/battery life for me.
The recent apps view is a big step backwards to me, the side scrolling cards is not as easy nor helpful as the vertical view was. I still think Samsung's multiwindow mode is better than Google's and I do not think 9.0 improved it.
Adding a dark theme is nice, but implementation is inconsistent. I am surprised basic things like the settings pages do not use it. But it is nice for the keyboard, messages, and phone.
I'd agree the new pill gesture setup isn't great. The motorola fingerprint gestures is nicer.
The tiny settings icon in the notification drop-down is annoying enough I've given up on it.
Other than some other gui changes (icons and the like), it isn't that different from 8.1.
That's kind of the impression I have been getting for a while. Our phones already have great battery life and moto actions.
I am losing excitement for this update...
It was faster, the battery runs faster than 8.1, I do not like gestures, even though I feel that applications still need to be polished for Pie.
Return to 8.1 for these last two dimensions.
Just installed the update tonight. Performance-wise, it feels the same. Don't know yet about the battery life, since I just got it about an hour ago.
I also found that the pill gesture setup was not up to par. It doesn't add anything extra to the original setup. It still occupies the same bottom screen space.
Dark mode is nice, but I wish it was implemented system wide instead of just by individual app. But probably this depends more on the app developers. But even system apps such as settings don't always have the dark mode.
Lastly, to access the gear settings icon, now you have to pull the notifications bar twice. Correct me if I'm wrong, wasn't it used to be just once?

Yes. I noticed this too. The gear was accessible from the notification bar.
I pretty much agree with what others have said so far. Based either on actual speed improvements, tweaks to the animations, or the update placebo effect, 9.0 does feel a bit snappier switching between apps than 8.1.
The only thing I don't like is that the update seems to have made SwiftKey fonts bigger which is mildly annoying.
Pretty disappointed with this version of Android. The recent apps is now destroyed. It's a worse way to interact with your recent apps. Don't even bother with the gestures. Totally half baked. One button nav is superior in every way. The notification pull down is just hideous. The clock is on the wrong side and no way to change it. Why there's no way to change it is beyond stupid. The dark theme option is extremely inconsistent. Won't even darken the settings window for instance. You now have to pull the notification share down twice to access settings versus only one with Oreo. Seems that we've lost a lot of functionality and are being told it's a feature. Perfect example are the volume controls. What a joke.
The whole thing just looks like an iPhone rip off. And the general graphic style sucks. Material design is dead.
Performance and battery seem to stay the same. Overall a poor effort from Google on this. Going to have to root this thing so I can deal with some of the idiotic things they decided to go with. Worst Android update since I can remember. Can't wait to go back to Oreo.
A couple more observations. The volume bar is now on the right side of the screen, next to the volume buttons. It also allows direct access to sound settings. I don't mind this as it feels more intuitive to me. If you long press the power button, now there's an option to take screenshot. I like this since I don't have to fumble again with two hands to take screenshot.
A big change is split screen. Previously, you can just long press the overview button to use split screen. Now you have to tap the overview button (or swipe up from the pill, if you use that), then long press on the icon on top of the app, then select split screen. If you use split screen a lot, this change is annoying to say the least.

That change throws me off. I keep looking for the clock on the right side. And I agree with you; Google copied some of iOS UI while kept some of their own, making it an inconsistent experience.
Fingerprint Lock
I can no longer lock my phone using the fingerprint sensor. I think this is a bug because it is selected in the "Lock Screen Preferences" settings but it does not lock the phone. This may seem like a small thing but it completely disrupts how I'm used to using the phone. I'm using the Google Fi Android One version.

I am on the same version, and it works ok for me.
Edit: I am using One Button Nav

I don't seem to have the one button nav option. Unless I'm not looking in the right place - Moto Actions?

If you have the Android One variant, one button nav is disabled on it.

Yes, that's what I suspected and I suppose that could be the reason the fingerprint lock does not work after the update as well.

It is disabled in A1 version. You can get the option enabled by removing the following prop:
ro.mot.android_one
If you are using Magisk, there is a module that you can use for this:
MagiskHide Props Config
Confirmed that this works on Oreo and Pie.
Edit: updated 12/27

Fingerprint lock works on my Android One model without one button nav. Have you tried removing and adding your fingerprints again?

Fingerprint lock still works for me though. I also have A1 variant.
This update is underwhelming for me little changes that are just seemingly random and pointless. I'm especially disappointed that the update broke Google pay , prior to pie I've been taking ota's fine with no impact on gpay.

Yep tried that. It's weird because I can unlock the phone with my fingerprint but I can't lock it again. It's obviously recognizing the fingerprint but not for locking purposes.

I toggled it off and the fingerprint lock works. I would be curious to hear from others...

I haven't rooted this phone yet, but this will be the first thing I do if I go that route.
