My Idol 4 fall in the toilet, what to do now? - Alcatel Idol 4S Questions & Answers

Hello, guys this morning my Idol 4 fell in the toilet, and I put in the bag full of rice, but I don't think thats the best solution. I try to dry it with the hairdryer but don't work either. Its boots to the logo (something like bootloop) and that's it. Its charging but I can't boot it. I see the camera lens has water in it. Thanks for all who give me some advice! Have a nice day!

Ok, today I took my Idol 4 to some city technicians, they dry it, do what they do, ok, when I got there they said my touch don't work, and it actually doesnt, untill I get home, then my touch got working, but now my speakers and my front led flash don't work when I charge the phone.

My phone swam, AND LIVED.

Alright so, long story short. I went to go jetskiing today, on the Potomac River, and well, I thought I had taken my phone out of my pocket before helping my friend take off the jetskis off the tralior into the water, I waded out and felt my pocket get really heavy, and just so happened my phone was in my pocket. I freaked out and popped out the battery. ( i think thats what saved it. ) but so i just left it in the car, so it had time to dry. Came back about 4 hours later, and went home and put it in a bag of rice, I turned it on though, spiting I wanted to know if it worked. Phone worked, but only out the back speaker and volume was muffed and really low. Touch screen worked perfect! but none of the hard keys worked. I was pretty upset so I put it back in rice and popped off the back speaker cover and prayed that it would work. Just a bit ago, popped on the back cover and turned it on. EVERYTHING WORKS! I was so shocked, at first it was being tempermental. But a few soft resets and BAM worked like a charm
my little rant about how my phone survived a little swim with the fishes.
mods, please move if its not in the right area. thanks

Hey,
It is a great thing that you had just added the "Bubble Cab"®.
The only authorized and working application that saves your device from
drowning. (as it surrounds all of the small and electrical connections, soldering points, and internal parts, and completely squeezes all impact of water and moisture from your baby (the phone). When _any_ water or fluid contact happens or occurs !
Also as a further precaution the rice trick*© probably did not hurt !
--- All jokin' aside ! Still kinda laffin' .....
I was really happy to see your phone didn't drown ! (VERY Sincerely)
Your quick thinking to take it apart (the battery, and all) and allow it just to dry. Probably did the trick.
Anyway was very happy to see your AOK !
And another little known fact the Bubble Cab® will in fact ! Resuscitate a drowned phone !
And can be purchased via tru Mr. Mbudden, his Program is currently out of Beta !
And Full Product BubbleCab 1.01 ® is a steal ! at $16.95 !
Thanks
david !
Bubble Cab®
Hey !
Also, let me know when the Beta is finished on :

I had an 8525 which fell in the Atlantic and pretty much the exact same story. Pop battery out and rice it I learned a valuable lesson. Dont drink and fish in Ocean City...... lol
Patomic huh? I bet we have seen each other out on the water at some point ( although most of my boating now occurs on the Magothy and out near the Bay bridge these days lol )
Glad to hear your phone is well!!!

Um... Fell in the ocean and you just dried it, you didn't flush it out? Mmmmm, corrosion. How long ago was this?
To the OP (and everyone), I would suggest you not use the phone unless it's been drying with rice (or, get dessicant) for several DAYS. I think you got lucky it still worked after such a short drying period.
I think the phone would have recovered faster had you dropped it in the toilet right after Kumar visited White Castle. Potomac river water can make you lose your hearing! That water is nasty!

This was well over 4 months ago. As far as I can tell it is still working as it should ( I havent used it in a while but I just juiced it up, put my sim in it , powered it on, and tested with a call )
I probably should take it apart again and clean it, but im not too worried about it.
I do have 2 tilts now afterall...... the 8525 was just around as my backup until i got my second one lol

[28-5-2009] Xperia fell, into toilet!!

OMG, this was the first thing i said.
suddenly my X1 fell into the toilet straight into the pipes!
but before it goes into the water, a good thing happend! the battery popped out . this might be a good sign
lucky me, i recovered my phone, but will it work?
i don't know, it's out of warranty anyway so let's open it, clean it and see what's inside.
steps done so far (started @ 10:00 am GMT+3)
1) washed the phone, with every single cleaning liquid i ever found
2) started opening the phone and cleaning it from the inside (yes, puring it with water and some cleaning/anti germs stuff) and yes including the bords.
3) finished cleaning it from the inside, now drying part (current status)
4) dryubg is over, connected everything together (without the body of the device, only boards) and YEPPPPPPPPPIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII, it's working.
a) Touch screen is fine, LCD have some problem (seems it still have some water in) i will dissamble the LCD completely.
b) no other problems to the main hardware (as PDA, i didn't test the speaker or anything else!)
5) OS Is not booting now, LCD is missing the RED Color, getting stucked on the SE Logo!
6) got really tired, i think this will need time, went to the shop, bought an HTC Touch HD
7) i will continue working on X1 untill it's fixed.
i will update this as i progress.
wish me luck
[12-5-2009]
Finally got some time to check why the phone is stucked SE Logo.
- first tried a hard reset
it didn't solve it, i thought maybe flashing a new ROM will help.
- Flashed a new ROM (HSPL already there before),
Still the same issue, the LCD is missing the Blue Color Sometimes, its a carbon connector for sure and can be fixed, but why not booting?!
[28-5-2009]
- got more time to work on it
- flashed nX1i_v1_04_WWE, still, stuck on se logo!
- Check attached Images
Edit : i replaced the LCD, the phone is booting now but it's taking around 4 to 5 minutes to boot, it get's stucked at the SE logo then it continues.
i'm able to flash new ROMs.
BT and Wifi are not working.
BT is turining on and off but i cannot use it, my X1 cannot be found using any other BT device when it's on visible mode. and cannot send files from my X1!
Wifi : Not turining on at all!
anyone with ideas? i really suspect the flexcable due to any accedental push i made when opening the device but it's expensive to replace and honestly, a new X1 would cost a bit higher!
dang thats unlucky - as long as the battery fell out it wouldnt have short circuited anything then i guess - just dont turn it on till its SUPER dry

do you think it's possible to use the elictric hands dryer? or it will do some problems?
don't think a hairdryer should cause problems
about warranty then think all phones today have
indicators which show if they have been wet because
dropping it in water is not covered
surprisingly many people seem to drop phones in toilet
read it was the most common way for them to die
Are you shure that you aren't just in a bad nightmare?
My aunt throw already three mobiles into toilets, don't ask my why
Everything I can say is, that none of the phones could be reanimated
I have too admit my Xperia fell in once, after a few days all was okay, exept dpad wasnt functioning, and i couldnt hard reset or enter bootloader ( weird problem ) with the keys. Ended up replacing it, and forget asap.
Hey,
sh*t happens. Anyway. Here is a link with a thread called: my phone got wet - what should I do!
Even I never had such an accident before I found the solutions quite useful.
Have a look:

Greets
I haven't read that thread posted above yet, but never use a hairdryer/hand dryer. The can be quite hot coming out of the nozzle, if you're not careful you can melt plastic with them (I work in a helpdesk, I've seen laptops come in after a tiny spillage but with melted keyboards after being attacked by a hairdryer).
Best bet is to take all the covers you can off, dry with a towel/kitchen paper (toilet paper breaks up and leaves lots of little bits) and leave to dry *slowly* resting on a towel, folded several times over, on top of a radiator. Leave it there for 24 hours, more if it looks like there's still water in there.
I'd expect to see tide marks on the screen afterwards though, especially if you live in a hard water area. If you live in a soft water area you might be luckier and have very little residue.
Maybe u should let the x1 go where all the good phones go, phone heaven.
bit of advice dont answer your phone as u take a leak, friend done that in a nightclub and then had to reach in and get it out. even my beloved x1 would have stayed there (take it as a lose lol).
ps. i hope u get it working bud
I read in an iphone forum that you should bury the phone in rice since the rice absorbs all the moisture.

But don't eat the rice afterwards, its been in the toilet!
Go and buy some Isopropanol, now open your phone and disassemble everything.
Fill some Isopropanol in an cup or something an lie the board inside. (IMPORTANT: The microphone and speaker and camera shouldn't get wet so get it off the board or if you can't you must seal them)
Now let the board lie in the cup for 1 night or so. the isopropanol should evaporate. the clue ist that the isoprop. is binding the water and the salts etc. in it and evaporates with them.
With this method i rescued several phone which was gone swimming
Sorry for my bad english

yeh that's not a bad idea, but alas it didn't work for my old ipod when it fell into the canal.
to the OP you have my sympathy, my x1 was grabbed by my toddler son this morning. I caught him just as he was opening the bathroom door.

At first I as gonna reply with laughing my a$$ off but then on second though I was like "your $ just fell down the toilet" dang...
Kids...be sympathetic...
Anyway, also happened to me a while back, but with a PDA.
I dismantled it, washed it part by part and it worked like a charm after that.
The only thing was, the LCD was permanently stained or smth. One of the light diffusers into the lcd (which was paper btw) was damaged by the water.
But it was functional and I could still use it ok...until I fell on it...
And this happened (check attached file - if you look closely you can see the right part of the LCD is kinda missing)
I'm pretty curious to see your display after you manage to get it working...
Can you get some pics online?
I once accidentally dropped a Sony Ericsson device in a large glass of water - it completely recovered. Hope you have the same luck

[Q] Water Damage

So for the first time ever, I dropped my phone in water.
Luckily I'm still under warranty, except I'm worried about the water indicator. It's still white under the battery, but does anyone know if there is other like inside the phone?
Also, I can boot the phone to the bootloader, but that's it. I can get to recovery from there, but flashing ROM's do nothing, I still always boot to the bootloader no matter what.
Does anyone know if there are more water indicators or of there is a way to temporarily fix this? I'm freaking out
Bag of rice and wait wait wait... I'd get the battery out asap!!
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Well when you get something wet, you should power it down immediately, remove the battery and all of the parts, and stick it in some rice for a few days.
Rooted/ROM Captivate (For Sale)
Rooted Atrix
I heard ppl using hairdryer or putting into oven for a little while and it becomes ok after that.
remove the battery, simcard, and other peripherals from the phone.
then put it on some uncook rice for a night.
using alcohol also is a nice way because alcohol will displace the water.. do this before putting the phone on the uncook rice..
The bag of rice is the only thing you can do. A hairdryer for a little should be ok but please dont put it in the oven. And i would recommend not using alcohol since it would probably strip the paint and mess up the plastic.
Had the same thing happen on x-mas eve. My wife did a load of laundry and forgot to check my pants pocket. after 3 days of sitting in rice (and multiple flashes), i finally got the phone semi-working. The sdcard was shot and the mic stopped woking...i can only make phone calls using BT or with the headset...but hey, I forget this thing is a phone anyway

[Q] LG 4X in water :(

Hy today I was going home on motorbike and my phone was in jacket pocket ( jacket is motorbike, waterproof, never questioned that ) and suddenly it started to rain and I had no worry cause jacket is waterproof and many time I carried phone in jacket while raining,no problem at all.
But guess what.I arrived home and pulled out phone from jacket and I felt water on TPU case and bottom of case was soaked.
Immiditealy I had heart attack that water found her way into phone electronics and parts and I pulled out battery, sim card and memory card and dried phone with hair drier.
Then I switch battery with replacement battery and started phone. After LG logo apperead I was happy but no so soon, then LG logo flickered after showing it as it should be and black screen on left part of screen and artefact screen on right ( like when your computer GPU dies ) and I hear boot sounds and going into homescreen.
My questions is should I try to dry more or thats pretty much that what I could do ?
Did digitizer died or LCD screen ? Could they notice if I take it to warranty the water indicator like on Iphone ?
Guys please help, give some advice,I'm going insane
Strip the battery from the phone. Put both in a bag of rice. Leave alone in the rice in a warm place for 48 hours. Try to see if it works. If not then there's not much else you can really do.

Thanks for reply, last time mom washed my Nokia 100 and after leaving it in rice for 24 hours water withdrawed and now phone worsk flawlessly like before.
As I sad, phone turns on,shows LG logo as it should be,I hear boot sound and then one half of screen is black and other half has artefacts.
So my question is what could be damaged ( cpu, gpu, motherboard, lcd screen, digitizer ) ?
After spending 12 hours in rice,my phone works and everything is fine except rear and front camera.
They dont seem to work, they show some kind of artefacts, then it turns for a short period time and laggs and they I get error App has crashed etc.
Should I carry my phone to phone service or leave it for 24 hours more in rice, maybe rice will dry moisture from camera lens/electronics or are both cameras completely dead ?

Personally I would leave it in the rice for for a couple of days at least. My old Sony Ericsson took 3 days in rice to get back to full working order following it's short visit to the toilet basin.
You only need the slightest drop of water in the wrong place to create a short, which will cause your phone to act erratically.
I have my fingers crossed for you :fingers-crossed:

is there any chance that rice will dry out moisture from camera and they'll work normally ?

---------- Post added at 08:30 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:25 PM ----------
my phone is accidently droped into a low level bowl of water face down.
almost 25% of phone dipped into water, and as soon as it contacted water i pulled it out and pulled the battery and sim and memory card out.
then i tried to dry it with hair drier for 10 mins,
then i started my phone and it started normaly, but after 1 minute while i was using it, it dimmed and gone to black screen, i instantly pulled out the battery again,, and yet i'm thinking what to do,
do i still have chance of rice trick?
i can't take chance on my phone, i'm not a rich person to afford this phone again

Put in in the rice you got nothing to lose.. But honestly, you made a mistake turning the phone on after 10 min. Rice will hopefully take out the moist.

If you live in a cold place, keep it in for atleast 2 days. Also stop powering your phone on, it will reduce your chances.Try to get it to somewhere warmer
if you ask me, you made a mistake when you tried to dried it with blower
when it drooped into water, then right away turn it off, battery out, sim and sd out
then try to collect water as much as you can with tissue
then put in on rice, basically bury it in it so that phone is surrounded with rice all around
leave it like that for 2-3 days
then try to start it to see if you had luck to get the moisture out
Rice is a bad idea.
It will dry but the water from everywhere contains salt and minerals.
It will rust everything inba short periodo.
Run to a repair store and they will dissasamble and proper clear parts.

ok friends, thanks GOD my phone is alright, not a single default in it,
working perfectly, it has been half an hour i'm using it with minimum 800+ processor frequency so that it generate some heat,
everything is wroking,
and i wanna thank all of you for replying and helping... rice is the best method for it.
thanks a lot,
Regards,
The best method is actually to use the desiccant packets that come with electronic equipment, but I'm lucky to get lots of them through my job in case I ever need them. Rice is the best thing that almost everyone has easily available.
I'm glad it's all working, quick action of normally the best bet.

a nice homemade trick to fix wet devices is, grab a container, half fill it with white rice, from a new package, and the put your device into the rice, of course without a battery and back plate, and the complete the container with more white rice, wait for two days and then, try to turn on your device, it will be completly dryed, i proved with several devices and always works again
yes, rice dried my device completely and I'm using it without any problem now

[Q] Dropped htc one in water

I might really need someones help now.
I wasnt really using it but somehow i managed to drop my htc one in W/c. and it was half inside and within seconds i picked it up. it was inside the water from the headphones jack and when i removed it it was working fine for couple of mins and then it started restarting on it own. i read about rice so i kept it in a bag full of uncooked rice for 3 days and nights and tried switching it on. nothing works but that same thing happens. when i dropped it in water 25% of the screen from earphones jack had water and i could actually see it and after a couple of days the water got absorbed and there are barely some water marks in the screen whenever i try switching it on. and right now i have kept it in a bag full of moisturizer absorber and kept it for a night nothing really helped yet. just the water from screen got absorbed and nothing is working anything yet. and the flash is yellow. so i dont know if i should fool the service center guys or keep it longer and make it work or what?
help please.

Should've left it off for a week or so.. Or got it opened and dried and cleaned. Nothing can be done now. Wait and watch, or if you still can, get to a good technician and ask him to open and clean/dry the phone. Good luck
