Need help, Tab S2, Data recovery, Broken LCD and Digitizer - Galaxy Tab S2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
I have samsung tab s2 sm-t719y with broken screen and lcd. I just want to extract some important data out of it. Tried several data recovery software but usb debugging is not turned on. I tried this adapter (below) but it does not work with the Tab S2. I am helping my sis-in-law and all her biz contacts and project info is inside the tablet.
When I connect a usb otg and used a mouse and slide the mouse when holding the left button of mouse, I hear an 'unlocking' sound and I am able to adjust the volume by using the volume adjust button. So I am certain that the tablet is working. I have briefly searched for solutions in this forum but to no avail. Please help, thanks for reading this post.

I wasn't able to use Kies nor Smart Switch unfortunately. Kies immediately directed me to Smart Switch due to newer models of the Tab S2 model. Regardless, I entered the model name or model number (Galaxy Tab S2 or SM-T719Y or SM-T719) both software keeps asking me to check model number and enter it in the box. I followed the guide but unfortunately the software spat back saying USB data transfer is not allowed on the device so the software couldn't connect successfully to the tablet. **sigh** I appreciate the suggestion though. Im hoping someone could suggest another possible solution.
Thanks

You could try this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2786395
or use TWRP to recover the data. Look at the screenshots on the page to guess where you need to touch. You can then use MTP or ADB to backup the data.

[Q] Help!!! Hi guys, I've had a look around the net and asked on other forums

Hi guys, I've had a look around the net and asked on other forums, but can't seem to find the answer to my problems, so someone recommended here.
Apologies, if this has already been covered, but I did have a search and couldn't find what I was looking for.
I think I have two problems, don't know if they are related, but don't think so.
Problem 1:
Got the Galaxy S for my daughter for Christmas. She has never been able to log in to the android marketplace. She was using the her google log in which wasn't a gmail account. Today I signed her up a gmail account, and tried again and got the following error message:
You don't have a network connection.
This could be a temporary problem or your phone may not be provisioned for data services. Please try again when connected to a mobile network, or connect to a wi-fi network. If the problem continues, call customer care.

The phone is definitely connected the net by wi-fi, which I have proved to be working correctly.
Problem 2:
To try and solve problem 1, I thought I would see if the firmware was up-to-date, however, I can't get the phone to connect to Kies. I have tried on two different laptops, one running Vista and one Windows 7. It seems to be saying it's some kind of driver problem. I have clicked on install drivers on Kies, but it makes no difference.
I have made sure the phone is selected Kies. I have also tried selecting mass storage and connecting through My Computer, but still it doesn't recognise the phone.
I believe the phone's firmware is out of date, as it is 2.1 update 1 and I believe 2.2 is available.
Apologies for the long post, can anybody help me to get Kies and marketplace working?
I am not interested in jailbreaking the phone, as it's for my daughter.
The phone is a contract phone, in the UK with orange. I have made sure orange safe guard is not active.
Thanks in advance, if you need anymore infor, i will try and supply it.
Any idea's?
Bump.
Can anybody help or is the best option to try a factory restore / take it back to the shop?
Well there is alot of tread that explain how you connect to kies.
If you can use internet then it should work.
Have you try to power of the phone and wait 5 minutes and then power it on?

I have got the market place working by doing a factory restore, but for the life of me, I can't get the phoned connected to Kies to do a firmware update.
I have tried on 4 different laptops.
1. Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.
2. Windows 7 Home Basic.
3. Windows Vista.
4. Windows XP.
and I can't get it to connect on any of them.
I have tried un-installing and re-installing Kies. I have tried using different usb wires and ports. Phone charges by usb when plugged in.
I have tried connecting the phone in both Kies mode and Mass Storage mode.
The error I keep getting seems to be a driver error:
Device Driver software was not successfully installed.
Please consult your device manufacturer for assistance in getting this device installed.

tell me if that trick works
Are you using a USB hub? If so don't . Plug it straight into the rear USB of your computer.
Do you have Bluetooth active? Turn it off.
Are you using any other Home than the one it came with (the screen you see when you first turn it on)? Go back to the stock TW Launcher
In the Kies Tools menu click on Install Driver and then try again after it's finished.
Finally if it is still not connecting leave it plugged in and go into device manager. If the drivers show up there they should be listed as Samsung i9000 if I remember then right click and un-install drivers then unplug phone and plug it back in after a few moments.
Also use the cabel that did come with.the phone.

[Q] Galaxy S 3 Mini SM-G730A USB issue

I don't believe there was a thread covering this exact issue, if there is I sincerely apologize. AT&T Samsung Galaxy S III Mini SM-G730A
My problem is that my phone will not connect to any computer via USB mass storage, the battery will begin to charge but that is all. I have searched the internet for possible reasons/solutions and I have also contacted Samsung customer service which only lead to the discovery of completely different issue. Of course upon this discovery as coincidence would have it the call with customer service was disconnected. The lady had told me to boot the phone, take the battery out, and boot into recovery mode. Once there she instructed that I choose the option to wipe the cache partition, when I selected this option it said it was clearing the partition then gave me an "ERROR" message, shut down, and rebooted the phone. Basically, to get to the point, I wanted to root the phone and this problem is somewhat a hindrance. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance
Also I don't know if this needed or would help but I have tried connecting it to computers running Win XP Home Service Pack 2, Win Vista, Win 7 Home Edition, and on my laptop which is the one I would be using if fixed it's running Ubuntu Saucy 13.10. I also used the original cable that came with the phone I bought it brand new. Thanks again.
Possible reason of your problem

Your problem if you still hve it is that the usb port is damaged, normally when they get damaged they can still charge the phone but will not be recogniced by the pc, so you would not be able to rooted, or transfer any file to it, .
Solution is to change the usb port. Hopefully you can fix your issue, Greetings.
Try enabling / disabling usb debugging, maybe that will help. You'll need to go to 'about phone' in settings then tap on the version number 10 times to enable developer options, then you can enable usb debugging.

[Q] Screen half-dead - can't enter PIN to unlock!

Hi everyone
I've tried a search but couldn't find anything specific on this, please forgive me if this has already been covered.
I have an HTC One where the lower section of screen is dead. This means that I can't enter either 0 or return on the PIN screen, which I need to in order to get the data off.
I am not prepared to try a hardware replacement, I am looking for software only right now.
I have rooted phones before (My HTC Desire, Wildfire, Desire Z, etc) so I understand the basic set up with ADB etc - I also have Linux Mint running on my box if needed.
Is there any way I can enter the pin using a USB connection - I know what the PIN is, obviously. Otherwise I guess I'll need to hack round the unlock screen, but I'm not sure how to go about that.
All guidance greatly appreciated! :fingers-crossed:

Maybe with a usb-otg calbe and a usb keyboard? Never tried....
If you already have a custom recovery installed you can access your data using ADB.

Yes you can even use a mouse with a usb-otg adapter
Thanks everyone - I had no idea such cables existed! I've ordered one and will report in with my results. Thanks!
Hi all, thanks for the advice. For anyone in the future looking at this, the UBS-OTG cable worked like a dream - just with a normal USB mouse and keyboard I could get it all fixed. Thank you, I didn't know such things existed before!

[Q] N7000 destroyed, data recovery?

Hi guys
as you can see in the attached file, i have a litte issue
a friend of mine dropped the phone and a car runned over it lol...digitizer and lcd are gone but the phone still boot up and it is recognized by the computer. My friend don't care about repairs but he wants the data back and here starts the problems:
-adb is off
-phone is password protected (so no kies and no sdcard reading from pc), phone stay in the "insert password" at startup.
-i don't even know if support mhl to attach on a tv
how can i recover the data? The only idea i have is to dump the rom and load it on an android emulator but i don't even know if its possible. Can someone give me a hint to recover the data? Thank you
1) Buy a replacement screen
2) Get the data
3) Sell fully working phone
...
Profit!
that was my idea...my friend do not approve

Did you try the S-pen to input the password?
i can't get a precise feedback. I think i'm not pressing the correct numbers and after half hour of wasting time i was looking for other options. Does this phone support mhl? If yes, i have to enable in settings or something else?

I dont know qbout mhl, never used it. The phone does support it though.
Another idea might be a usb-otg cable and a keyboard(password entry).
Not sure if that works on a stock rom, but try it.

[Q] Unable to recognize phone when hooked up to computers

Hey folks,
So I have a completely unmodified, stock Canadian N920W8 on 6.0.1, and no matter what I do, I cant get it to be recognized by Odin on my Win10 or Heimdall on my Mac.
I've done everything I could think of. Different cables, different ports, even different computers. Reinstalled the USB drivers, everything.
Anyone have any ideas? My phone won't fast charge, and is lagging more and more. I can't even Odin back to stock because it won't recognize. Factory Reset just cleaned out everything but nothing has changed. OEM unlock and USB debugging on, it won't be seen by the computers.
Any help? It's past manufacturer warranty, but it's still a good phone and I don't wanna lose it.

Did you install the actual drivers or just the ones that Windows installs? I use the ones that Samsung smart switch installs and I have no issues. If it is not fast charging and your computer does not recognize the phone it may not matter what drivers you use.
I used the Samsung USB drivers for Mobile Phones from Canadian support page. And that's on a fairly fresh win 10 install, too.

If you can I would suggest installing smart switch and see if smart switch sees your phone.

I tried it on the Mac, smart switch didn't see the phone booted up. Didn't get a chance to try it in Odin mode. I'll try that tonight. And also on the PC. Any other suggestions?

Unfortunately not. I was hoping smart switch would see it. I would not rule out a damaged USB port.
I hope not... this is way past warranty, and I wanted to flash the thing with Khongloi's new Nougat rom... if it won't be recognized, then I can't even back it up or re-flash it to stock. Which is not a good thing...
No other suggestions, @CodeNameRedNeck ? You've been a huge help otherwise.

Just to be sure. Can you transfer files from your PC to your phone and vice versa? Do you have any USB 3.0 ports? My phone seems to work better on 3.0 but still works on other types. Do you still have the Samsung cable? I know you said you have tried other cables but I used to have two cables that would not do data.
I tried with a brand new from the box cable, into four different usb 2 ports on the Mac and 2 usb 3 ports on the windows 10 PC.
No luck with it even being recognized for file transfers either.
@ve6ay, I could be wrong but I would say you probably need a new port. You should be able to pick one up relatively cheap. Good luck.
That's my thought, too, and in that case, I'll forgo anything. The contract is up in October, and it got the OTA update to 7.0, so I'm okay with it for now. I'm not into opening up her phone (which hasn't even been rooted yet) to switch out a port that I'm not confident enough to switch out.

Did you try going into Developer Options and then scrolling down until you see "USB Configuration" and setting it to MTP? Or open the dialing pad and enter *#0808# and then making sure it's set to MTP, ADB and then try again.. If that doesn't work then it really is your port connection and it's actually super easy to replace and cheap too! All you'd have to do is heat the back up so you can loosen the glue up and then slowly pry the back off and then remove like 16 screws(lol) and then at the bottom you just unscrew it and easily pull the thin connection out.. I've done it several times so far although trying not to break the back glass is super hard..
The back glass got shattered in a drop last summer. So that will probably be a problem. Like I said, new phone this fall, most likely the next Note series. Though I'm tempted to go with an Exynos variant from across the ocean.
