What are you hyped for? - OnePlus 3 Guides, News, & Discussion

Damn, there are so many great things in development! I want to know what you guys want to see the most? Personally, AOSPA is at the top of my list. New Xceed kernel and a new VertexOS are high up as well! The R4 Render kernel seems like it's going to be a beast!

Aospa will be released when the xiaomi mi6 kernel sources will release. That means in about 3-4 months...

Developer Support

Just wondering what other developers have decided or shown interest in grabbing a OnePlus 3. I am thinking of getting one, but the cost is a bit steep to just support a device that I may not even use as a daily device. If there is a small amount of developers, I will be more likely to get one because I believe that users deserve to use their phone how they want, not how the OEM wants them to. This is more or less a roll call to see who will be supporting the device from a dev standpoint.

Yes, please consider - early adopters will lure more and more devs for sure.
And OP is dev-friendly too (according to the OP - you won't void your warranty by flashing custom ROMs/Kernels).
I was fully surprised to see the first unofficial CM13 ROM from Grarak one hour after the announcement yesterday

My problem is the price point still for a device that I I'll likely be supporting to ensure users get what they want rather than using it as a daily driver for a while. I support several Nexus devices and have done a bit on each OnePlus device in the past. I just want it to be a feasible purchase considering how large my support roster is already.

I can perfectly understand that. You - like me - do like to do things either perfectly or at least v. good or better leave them be if they are only 'ok'.
Nevertheless - please do consider. I am not promising anything but my guts tell me OP3 will have a larger userbase than the OP2.
And again - no promises - but I like beer and also like to send 'virtual beer/pizzas' to the devs I feel are putting big efforts to keep the users happy. Probably other humble users too :highfive:
Would be killer to have you onboard.

To be honest, I'm pretty sure that this device will attract a lot of devs, both kernel and rom wise. So while I'd love to have the dark side on board, you shouldn't stress your budget when you're not planning to use the phone. Just my $0.02.

For right now I will blind build a kernel and try to get kexec working. If I somehow get the budget to grab one, I will. I hear there is a BrokenOS coming, but do not ask anyone about it, just wait for a release. I will not bring UBER ROMs to this device because we do not run CAF based sources.

Just a friendly request, please keep on One rom and maintain it well. I am sure that many devs will come for OP3 because of its open nature and having a unofficial port of their rom might discourage them. So, please, focus on quality rather than quantity. I don't doubt that you can maintain 2 roms. But, as you are more with Beanstalk, please continue with it. You can go for maintaining more roms one source for custom roms gets stable and no dev from a particular rom comes. Don't take it wrong but just a friendly request.
Thanks.
And BTW, better if you maintain only for the devices you have. And if you are maintaining for a device you don't even have, maintaining more than 1 rom for it becomes too weird and not good for the device users as you won't be able to contribute much to device specific stuff that way. So, if you don't own device, for now, it will be better if you just maintain one rom at max so that some developer who owns device can maintain and he doesn't get discouraged (happened with op2 and happens with opx too)

I agree, it is hard to maintain several projects at once for one device, let alone a few. IIRC, a lot of you come across from other OP devices too, not sure if you are dropping support on previous devices.

Good. Though I think for better support to users, one, especially a kernel developer, must have the device. Users can't always get the best of bug reports and it becomes a lot hectic to support devices (like it happened on OP2 ) Infact, it doesn't give a good pressing on a developer's image to be honest. Take your decision but believe me, it will be better if you get the device and maintain.
Thanks.

I think you know me. Remember me from one group we created ? I think of you can get a device, do support it. Infact, in one way, people support of you support them. So, get a device, support the device and a lot chances are that people will support you and you might be able to overcome all expenditures on the device. And believe me, many devs told me this too. And I know your kernel from 6P. Will be great if you can support, and prolly you *might* have a surprise too (I am not saying anything, but, well) . We do need your support, but it will be best if you can support when you have a device too. It will generate people's trust upon you and also you won't need to get with wrong bug reports.

Likelihood of OP3 roms being compatible with OP3T?

The custom rom/dev support for the OP3 is nothing short of amazing.
What is the likelihood of roms for the OP3 being compatible with the OP3T? Or will devs need to create custom roms for the OP3T and treat it as a completely different device? I'm hoping that rom support for the OP3T will be as active as the OP3 very soon after its release.
It's easy to add support for the OP3T. Just prepare a patch of the kernel and apply it to the current ROMs.
The OIS improvement might be only firmware, so no ROM/user app space responsability.

Nothing more than F2FS I think. Read kernel sources and seems like Oneplus added native support to f2fs in their latest commit.
so the community will stay on OP3 or move to OP3T? I am in need to buy phone now or soon and thinking of buying OP3 for better community, but OP3T has some improvements.
Same question here. I was looking for something to replace my not-so-premium-builded nexus 5x and i was almost decided for the op3 due to its great community and development, but now i see the 3T and that extra 400mAh are worth it (821 its great tho), and gosh that gunmetal color it's just soooo beautiful

Still interested in hearing from some devs if OP3 ROMs will be compatible or not? Will we simply need a kernel patch or completely different ROMs? The community is a huge reason I'm considering this phone and if the 3t won't have the same community, it really isn't worth it then, IMO.

The op3t is no option for someone who is already using oneplus3. And yes the rom/kernel development on xda will always be better for OP3 compared to OP3T. Because most of the good dev already use OP3. And you cant blame them not buying OP3T. I think many roms / kernels can still be made for OP3T by OP3 devs even if they dont have the device. But dont think there will be better kernels or roms for op3t. Op3 will allways have much better xda support than op3t.

Perhaps I misunderstood from the sites I've been reading, but it sounded like people were suggesting that this move meant that their next release of the OP4 would be around this same time next year... If the new OP4 is definitely coming out in 6 months, this seems like a pretty pointless upgrade.
Still thinking about getting 1+3t since the devs stay with 1+3.....would be terrible if the xda support for 1+3t will be bad.
I would prefer the bigger battery and cpu but without dev support i won't get it
Still hab 2 days to use my RMA so I will decide...

[VOTE]Releasing the Camera blobs

We all have been waiting for OnePlus to release their camera sources. Finally, they've decided to release the blobs.
But there's a catch. They won't be releasing the sources for the camera app which means that the capturing speeds and the processing speeds won't be the same as that of OOS.That's not a big deal,IMHO.
They're waiting for the community's opinion on this.
Here's the link to the thread in the OnePlus Forums:
Let's talk about our camera experience on custom ROMs
Let's vote and make this happen!
Super. Loving OP!!
And they decided to push the code :highfive:

Yes the speed is truly amazing compared to oos. One good thing is they have atleast given up option to remove many of these apps. Since i'm rooted i've deleted pretty much all of their stock apps myself.

Based on what they're saying, does that mean that we would also be able to recording 1080p60fps on custom ROMs as well? That would be amazing. The only down side I'm assuming is that the processing speeds would take a few seconds for the final product but we'd have a fully functional and working camera. I'm guessing developers will find a way to help the processing speeds but I'm really excited and looking forward to the camera.
Hope they release them soon!
Didn't they this like a month or two ago already?

As long as OP release 1 version of O, that is rock solid with good battery life I will be happy. From that point they just need to give us the security updates.
I know many of you will expect more, but I accept that we paid much less for our phones and OP are a small company who will probably put 90% of there resources on the OP5.

True!! But we dont have a stable TWRP yet..
And I'm worried to install any Experimental builds as I screwed my last phone by doing so... I lost my IMEI for ever.
Meanwhile I've been trying to build an AOSP PIE rom from source using the kernel from ASUS website on GCP but it fails with an error every time.
Looks like there's lots more to learn.

It seems like there are very few developers who have Z5Z. Most of them would have rather gone for oneplus 6 or the poco F1. I am too coming from oneplus 2 and I am huge flash-o-holic. With 5Z, there is a bit of disappointment on that front. It is really good to know that there are few developers who are working on this device. All the best for your work.
