Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is this Android 7 (Nougat)?
A: Yes, this is Android 7.1.2
Q: What code is Oct-N based on?
A: This version of Oct-N is based on LineageOS 14.1
Q: Why isn't there XYZ feature?
A: Shoot us a Suggestion if you want to see something added. While we are not going to promise to implement, we will always look into it
Q: But all the others have..
A: ROM developers, build something they want to use. The ROM developer that includes something they won't run implies less than 100% effort to ensure it does work. As a team, we have similar goals and objectives. If XYZ ROM has a feature you want, and we don't include (or don't want to include), feel free to use XYZ ROM, or build your own custom version of Oct-N.
Q: What about root?
A: Root is removed by default (user will be able to flash which ever root zip they want)
Bugs:
Bugs happen. Our testers are very good at breaking things, but no where near as good as the rest of the Android public. In order to investigate and fix issues, we need the help of the users who are going to report them. The Android OS has many nifty features to help us in this, but only if we can engage the user to assist us.
Logs, Logcat, and the Android Debugging Bridge (ADB)
Like any other OS, Android has multiple log files that are generated and record the goings-on of the system. As a user, you have two basic ways to view and pull these to send to us. Without the information in the logfiles, there simply is not a whole lot of information to go on.
Log file APKs
Team OctOs recommends SysLog from the Android Market. This application will allow you to selectively pick any (or all) of the system logs, compress them into a .ZIP file, and allow you to save, email, move to your Copy/DropBox/Cloud Storage account, etc.
ADB Logcat
The Android Debugging Bridge (ADB) is a powerful tool available from Google as part of the Android Software Development Kit (SDK). Used for many things, being able to selectively see, in real-time, what your device is doing cannot be downplayed. While there is more setup involved, if you are doing consistent ROM flashing, you really should invest the time to get setup properly to do it.
ADB Logcat tutorial here: How to create a logcat log
Basic Instructions:
Download ROM .zip file and MD5 file, and grab your favorite Open Gapps package http://opengapps.org
Reboot to Recovery (Note: Use Reboot to Recovery from Power Menu, Hardware-based boot to recovery, or adb reboot recovery - ROM Manager or similar software is NOT supported)
--- TWRP is the ONLY recovery Team OctOs uses - We do not support flashing on CWM ---
The Oct-N ROM installation script will automatically wipe /system, /cache, and /dalvik-cache. There is no need to do these before or after flashing the ROM unless you are instructed to by your Gapps Provider. When dirty flashing weekly updates, you MUST reflash Gapps along with any other files, apps, custom mods or kernels etc.. (anything that resides in system partition)
Flash ROM, GApps and any additional .ZIP files
Reboot

This ROM requires unlocked bootloader. So first unlock the bootloader and then flash this ROM.
And about screen freeze issue, some unlucky zenfone users face screen freeze issue due to unlocked bootloader. So if you are lucky enough then you will not face screen freeze problems.

good rom
I like this rom .how to fix camera .my camera is error not found

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is this Android 7 (Nougat)?
A: Yes, this is Android 7.1.1
Q: What code is Oct-N based on?
A: This version of Oct-N is based on LineageOS 14.1
Q: Why isn't there XYZ feature?
A: Shoot us a Suggestion if you want to see something added. While we are not going to promise to implement, we will always look into it
Q: But all the others have..
A: ROM developers, build something they want to use. The ROM developer that includes something they won't run implies less than 100% effort to ensure it does work. As a team, we have similar goals and objectives. If XYZ ROM has a feature you want, and we don't include (or don't want to include), feel free to use XYZ ROM, or build your own custom version of Oct-M.
Q: What about root?
A: Actually this version of OCT-N uses embedded root acccess which can be enabled in development settings.

What is a LogCat?
A "LogCat" is for debugging applications / Android system. When applications / Android crash the output the "explanation" for the crash, the Exception Stacktrace, to a Log. This log can be saved and help developers to fix the crash.
What is it supposed to do?
It will help to solve your questions, if your asked for a LogCat it is always useful.
How can I get a LogCat?
Prerequisites:
Code:
Linux, Windows or Mac
USB cable for your device
Android Device
Instructions:
Code:
Install your device driver for using adb. Everything you need will you find here
Download adb executable for your OS (Download: Windows | Linux | Mac). Paste it somewhere.
Connect your android device.
Verify if "Settings > Developer options > USB debugging" is checked, if not, simply check it.
Open a command prompt (windows) or terminal (linux / mac). How to do it: On Windows: windows + r > enter "cmd" (without quotes) > click enter | On Linux: You don't know how to open a terminal? LOL | On Mac: Type Terminal into Spotlight and open it
CD to the directory where the adb executable is located. On Windows: Go to the directory where you downloaded the adb executable, Shift+Right Click and select "Open Console" (or similar) | On Linux / Mac: Rightclick in the directory and select "Open Terminal here" (or simply CD into the directory)
Type in your cmd/terminal: adb devices to verify your device is properly connected.
If your device is properly selected, type in adb logcat to show the mighty and magic logcat aka stacktrace.
Reproduce your error (or whatever) on your device.
Right after, paste the whole cmd / terminal window into a paste-service like [url]http://pastebin.com/[/url] and send it to us.

That's what I'm sad about. I'm busy due to my exams. And other devs are just being build bots, & not even bothering to fix any bugs. They are just building as many ROMs as possible, without worrying about removing the existing bugs :/
My favourite ROM from Redmi 4!
when it's stable i'll install.

@ghpranav with all due respect, forget about XDA for the next 1 month. This is your passion which is good; but you are not going to get money from here. Good you are keen about this but until some manufacturer sees your work and you have reach a certain level of success you will not be hired. Concentrate on your boards and we can wait for custom Oreo.
DO not screw up your boards for us. Your smart and make sure you get smarter with everyday.

In my Huawei y6 ll, I have problems with the Wi-Fi connection, when the phone goes into deep sleep, the Wi-Fi does not respond, shows connected, but does not send internet, in the Wi-Fi icon a cross appears in a corner. The rest works for me correctly.

Strange. I am using it on Y6 II and WiFi always works perfectly. Maybe it's issue with your device unit or router/modem (or maybe router configuration, for example wifi channel)?
Tested the ROM yesterday. Its fluid and battery life is good. But I didn't really notice anything that distinguishes it from other ROMs. But Ussd doesn't work, that's why I use lineage OS. Was hoping to get a ROM with substratum and Ussd working. Anyways great job on the ROM.

Best rom I have used till today (I was on pe official rom 12) battery backup is amazing.
considering the rom is in beta state(though it feels stable) i have found some issues.
1. IMEI information is not shown in about device screen.
2. Wifi toggle stays at "turning on" when the button clicked to turn on the wifi even if it is turned on.
does it support Advanced Charging Controller (ACC)?battery-standbymodel is very useful
is app still running, whenu close it?

Project Elixir is another aftermarket AOSP ROM which basically offers minimal UI enhancement & close to Stock Android ROM with great performance, security and stability. Most of the OEMs' these days will provide slow and untimely updates, but we don't do that here. We closely follow Google to bring the latest updates to our users, and even prolong support for devices that have been declared obsolete by OEMs. Our ROMs' source code is open-source, secure, stable, and outstanding. Your experience while using Project Elixir will be butter smooth without compromising the quality of the Android experience. In short, it's perfectly balanced between Great Performance, Security, stability, minimal UI & awesome features including pixel goodies So do not hesitate anymore, join us now and start enjoying the beauty of stock Android. NOTE: Please keep in mind that these are Gapps Builds and there is no vanilla build of this rom available.

NOTE: It is STRONGLY recommended to fully wipe your device before flashing and please avoid restoring system apps and system data with Titanium Backup (or with any backup/restore app) as this can cause stability issues that are very hard to debug, restoring regular apps is fine. If you believe you know what you're doing - then fine, go ahead, but please don't complain if you experience any strange behavior.
The ROM is FBE enabled, so use Orangefox recovery 12.1/PE RecoveryCLEAN FLASH: (If on A11/A10/Older based rom) * Back up your data in phone memory as all data will be wiped
* Ensure You are on rui1 based firmware

- Wipe system, dalvik, cache, vendor and data
- Tap on format data, type yes and reboot to recovery
- Flash the ROM
- Reboot To System
- Recover backed up data and Flash Magisk (optional)CLEAN FLASH: (If on any A12/A12L based rom or A13 based rom other than Project Elixir)* Back up your data in phone memory as all data will be wiped
- Download the ROM
- Boot into recovery
- Wipe system, dalvik, cache, vendor and data
- Flash the ROM
- Tap on format data, type yes and reboot to system
- Recover backed up data and Flash Magisk (optional)

- As you know build is free but building ROM needs server and in order to maintain the source, we need High-End Servers that are generally very expensive and need to be renewed every single month and as a student its quite difficult. To meet with our technical expenses, a cup of coffee, and the efforts of the developers we need your monetary support!

1) On custom roms for realme 5 pro, don't expect stock realme cam features. It will never work.
2) reg wifi, no one else has faced or reported such issue, do better do a clean flash properly again
